I'm a student and was going to make a large bts purchase butt the Apple Store does not seem to be offering a discounted price on iPods or Macs? Please Apple - What's going on? Havent you helped students out for 20+ years now....

Educational video is educational video, and documentary is documentary. How to's aren't documentaries...so TV shows like Martha Stewart's LIVING or Woodworking with Bob Vila (whatever it is called) aren't documentaries.

I have a Sonos system in my house and suddenly discovered that many songs I bought off of iTunes years ago are 'grayed out' when I try to play them from my iPhone or do not appear as options at all when I try to play them on Sonos from my overall music library. It's well over 100 songs I bought back before mid-2009 when Apple dropped this DRM thing. From what I think I am reading, if I want to play those songs on Sonos, the ONLY way to do so is pay Apple another $25/year for iTunes Match (which I don't have any interest in) and then re-download them all in iTunes Plus format??

I agree it was not all communicated real well, but in your case it will work out. You missed the program where you could have upgraded 100 tracks for 30 cents each (=$30) but now you can do it via Match (=$25). It works pretty simply, per this document:

Yes. If you subscribe to iTunes Match, you can download your previously purchased music again in the iTunes Plus format. To do so:
You need to delete the original DRM song from your library first. Doing this enables you to download the song again in the iTunes Plus format from iTunes in the Cloud.
Click the Purchased tab in the iTunes Store.
Click Music.
Locate the artist of the song you want to upgrade.
Click the iCloud Download icon next to the song you want to upgrade.
Just don't forget to put the Plus files on your hard drive -- properly backed up of course -- and to cancel the Match subscription before the second year rolls around!

As I told you, you have to do some steps before upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion.
First of all, make a backup of your files using Time Machine and/or Carbon Copy Cloner. If you make both, good, but if you only make one, it's OK, too.
OS X Lion and OS X Mountain Lion aren't compatible with PowerPC applications, so you have to check if your applications are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com If you have to update an application, do it before upgrading, because the Mountain Lion installer moves unsupported applications to a separate folder.
After doing that, open Disk Utility, select "Macintosh HD" in the sidebar and repair permissions. Then, verify the disk to check if it's OK. If everything is right, just open the App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion

No I have my own iPhone iPad and MacBook so everything is set up on devices that are mine and as far as I know I never connected to anyone else's device and logged with my apple ID. But are you saying it is possible for someone to have obtained my apple ID and send an iMessage from their device with my contact information so it looks like it came directly from me? It would seem you have enabled Zoom. Go to Settings>General>Accessibility>Zoom>OFF. I would also disable Triple-click Home, again in Settings>General>Accessibility>Triple-click Home>OFF to prevent it happening again.

Has Apple Dropped Match Support for iTune 10?

Over the weekend, my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion and iTune 10 (sorry, I like iTune DJ too much to give it up) was showing all my non-local Match music as grayed out. I tried the usual trick of turning off Match, then turning it on again, but instead of fixing the problem, all the grayed-out songs disappeared completely. I also tried quitting and restarting iTunes, rebooting the Mac, holding the Shift key while turning off Match, deauthorizing and reauthorizing the Mac at the iTunes store, and signing out and signing back with my iTunes Apple ID. Throughout the whole process, the cloud icon next to Music has either been cycling or displaying a lightning bolt (can't connect to iCloud) icon.
I brought it in to work with me this morning, to see if its behavior would change on a different wifi network. Nothing has changed. Also, my Mac Pro (likewise running Mountain Lion and iTunes 10) now also displays the lightning bolt, and none of the music I've uploaded to Match appears to be in iCloud—even the music I just ripped from vinyl and uploaded last Friday. Deleting a song file from the iTunes Music folder and trying to play it on the Mac Pro prompts a message "The song "songtitle" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"
Clearly, as of this past weekend, Match is no longer working on either of my Macs. The files I uploaded last Friday do, however, appear as ready to play on my iPad. So it's obviously not a server problem.
Anybody know if this is a recent, unannounced development? Thanks for any info.

Thanks, Brett, but I tried all those troubleshooting options with no improvement. I discovered that my Mac Pro would upload songs to Match as expected, but not recognize their status in the cloud nor play them if a local song file was deleted from the computer. The only solution I could find was to download iTunes 12 and bid a fond farewell to iTunes DJ. It was either that or simply not renew my Match subscription when it comes due next month. No sense paying for a feature that Apple has discontinued support for in my preferred version of iTunes.

What are our options for iWeb sites, in relation to iCloud? Is Apple dropping this type of hosting service?

But seriously, it seems like many people are just trying to seed these discussions (about how upset people are over the unknown fate of iWeb) with suggestions such as; Try this or that web site building alternative, or Apple isn't obligated to you, or "you can easily publish your site to another server" blah, blah, blah. The fact is, thousands of people (or more) have learned to count on iWeb and Apple's one click publishing AND hosting to make their web sites. They have learned to make great looking web sites quickly with iWeb. They like iWeb. Some of us have used it for years. Apple is likely pulling the rug out from under ALL of these people. Many Sites, Blogs, Podcasts, Business Sites etc. will now simply cease to be if Apple stops supporting iWeb during the transition to "iCloud".
The most frustrating thing of all is that Apple has not (as of yet) even said one thing about what will happen to all of the web sites already created with iWeb. They are just ignoring it so far. They have only given the press releases about MobileMe going away. It is rude in my opinion. Trying to "spin" the dialog about it now is not what is needed. I agree that Apple needs to answer the many legitimate concerns all the iWeb users are raising. And the sooner the better.

Off topic question - Apple ID profile

I don't know where else to post this. I just spent an hour looking around Apple.com trying to find a place to log in so I could update my email address. I never did find a place to do it until I went to the forums. There, I logged in so I could create a post and then I finally get the option to update my profile. There was no way I would ever have found any other option. Please fix your site.

No forum but there is a FAQ page. One of the frequent answers explains that If you made it to the Thank You page, your changes were submitted and should be currently in effect.
Did you see the "Thank you" page after making your changes?

Spotlight slowing machine - has Apple fixed this?

I don't have this issue.
Indexing might be impacting your media performance but eliminating Spotlight is not even something I would consider.

Has Apple come up with a solution to remove the iPad sidebar in Mail while in landscape mode?

Hi, Everyone.
When I review open Mail, I need to review it in landscape mode, so I can use the ipad cover's keyboard to type my replies. I would like to be able to hide (or even shrink) the sidebar. Unlike the "relative" privacy of viewing your email at your desk, the ipad is meant to be a mobile device: I use it on the train, I take it to meetings, etc. It's annoying to have people looking over my shoulder or sitting next to me in a conference table able to glance over and, in effect, see the names of the last 11 people or entities that have emailed me - with the subjects. (I work in HR, handling a lot of staff and faculty compensation, discipline, ando other politically charged issues - so privacy is kind of a big deal) Yes, I could flip it to portrait mode and hide the sidebar, but that forces me to tilt my cover's bluetooth keyboard 90 degrees to the side and I am not yet proficient in typing sideways.
I've seen mutiple posts over the past year about this. I'm using IOS 8.1.3. Has Apple resolved this or offered a suitable accommodation?

TThe answer is simple. No Apple has not implemented a way to hide the preview pane of the mail app when you use the device in landscape mode. I use my iPad in landscape mode 95% of the time as well, so that I can use the larger keys on the virtual keyboard. You can hide the preview of what the emails say I Settings>Mail, contacts, calendars>Preview>None. If you do that, at least you will be hiding the beginning of the message so that nobody can read it. I realize that's not your solution, but it might help.

I tried the firepod and could not use even a buffer of 64 at times.
Then I tried a usb toneport and got a buffer of 32 with heavy track and plug in content while playing guitar through amplitube with software monitoring on.

I have seen posts asking where the iMix feature went (apparently, it went into the garbage). But I have been unable to find ANY playlists in the store since upgrading to 11. There used to be tons of great pre-made playlists--made by the folks at iTunes, I assume--that were a nice way to discover new music. Has Apple ditched this, too? Hope not. I'm looking for things to like in version 11, but so far it's all negatives.

There are two possibilities, 1)it is a software problem which will be fixed.
2)It is a hardware problem, and youll have to take it to an iStore.
BUT there is something you should know.
If your under apple care, its free.
If you are not under apple care, itll cost you something to find out where the problem is (i dont live in the US so I dont know) and then extra cost for the reapair itself.
