Off-Topic OAS Discussion Groups/lists??

Hi,
My apologies for the Off-Topic post. Might you be able to direct
me to a discussion group that deals with OAS and/or Servlet
technology?? I'm having trouble running a servlet(which is part
of a custom package) on OAS 4.0.8.1.
Regards,
Rob

The "more" option at the bottom appears on pages displayed via the "Overview" tab at the top of the column of topics. If you switch that to the Discussions tab choice, you'll have the "Next" plus page number choices.
For any forum you can set the "Discussions" tab as your view preference by clicking the 'set as default' link next to it.

  • How to delete topics from Discussions Group

    Hi
Plz help me out with this issue.
I want to delete some topics from Discussions Group.
In Discussion Forum we have 3 Discussion Groups now i want to Delete some topics from that Discussion Groups.
First of all is it possible to delete that topics in discussions.
If possible give the process to delete the topics.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Srikanth

    Hi Srikanth,
If u are using KM Discussion Group Admin iView to manage your discussion groups then its possible to delete the posts.
You can delete in discussiongroup folder in the KM repository. You can check the permission on the disucssions folder so that end users have Read/Write permission.
Or u check ur extension which was used to create:
    1) Content Admin --> Collab Content --> Room Template Admin --> Click on the SAP Standard template
    2) Click on the Extensions tab and you will find an extension called DiscussionPermission which is called everytime a room is created or a new owner is added to the room.
This extension is a program running in the background which makes sure that all the end users get Read/Write Permissions, whereas the room owners get Full permissions to the discussions within a room.
    Regards,
    Pooja.

  • Off topic - set "Discussions" as default view in forum?

Since the forum update the default view is "Trending discussions". I prefer to see the full list of discussions, but don't see an option for that. I get there by clicking on a "trending discussion" and then on the "Discussions" bread crumb menu. How do I go directly to "Discussions"?

    r, Larry, S, Scott,
To set discussions as default is a thing of the past.
The only way to have it is to Bookmark (or whatever it is called in your preferred browser) it.
You still have the even more outdated option of 100 threads per page if you use this full URL (for your Bookmark):
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/illustrator/illustrator_general?view=discussions#/?per_p age=100
    The crucial part,
    ?view=discussions#/?per_page=100
can be added to the Discussion page of any forum, so you can (use the Bookmark and) have it all back.

  • Suggestion: General Discussions\Off Topic Section

    hi,
it would be great to have an off topic forum/section here for us to interact and have general discussions. almost every forum i'm a member of has an Off Topic section. we can get to know each other much better and share useful information and opinions about various topics, technology and others also. we can do the same through PM's, but getting everyone involved will feel much better.

  • Off Topic - Automatic creation of a Directory listing in XML

Sorry if this is off topic.
OK my fingers are getting tired... is there a tool, or widget that will read the contents of a directory and generate an index XML file of that directory?
Running Mac OS X 10.6x server and we are hosting our own content. looking for a better way than hand-typing the directory of files for an RSS feed to iTunes U.

Not currently - well at least not easily - there is always the programatic approach.
I would suggest you can create an FSDB repository - this means you can then create your structure in the file system using standard desktop tools.
After that you could do a mass copy back into the db based KM repository if you so wished.
For your downstream systems you could always ICE the data across meaning you dont have to create everything again.

  • Off Topic - Cameras - 30D, 5D or D200?

Hi there, I'm a non-pro frequenter of the Apple discussion boards, I know this is off topic but I'd sure appreciate some quick advice, I need a camera ASAP for a work project and I don't have time to do the research that I should I'm hoping somebody here can give me a concise answer. My choices so far are narrowed down to the Canon 30D, the Nikon D200, and possibley the Canon 5D can any one recommend which would be the better camera for image quality when used by a non-pro (although I do have some technical experience and don't have a problem using a camera in manual mode). Main point is the image quality at the end of the day, and also the better investment as a camera. Mostly I don't want to get an over priced dudd... I've heard the 5D is good but over priced - anyway.... any help anyone? I'd really appreciate it.
    Many Thanks,
    Miklos.

    My choices so far are
narrowed down to the Canon 30D, the Nikon D200, and
possibley the Canon 5D can any one recommend which
would be the better camera for image quality
All those cameras and many less expensive others when used with top quality Nikon/Canon lenses are capable of providing excellent image quality when used with a (very essential) pro quality tripod and head plus remote shutter release (add $500-1000 for those if you intend to build a rig at the pro end of things). The 5D is slightly more capable of the best low light images in the group, but at a cost of more than twice as much. The lenses you choose will be much more relevant than the individual cameras - and should accordingly represent more than half of your expenditure.
The choice between Nikon and Canon should be made by handling the cameras in your short list. Hopefully ignoring the BS that salesman insists on telling you.
Main point is the image quality at the
end of the day, and also the better investment as a
camera. Mostly I don't want to get an over priced
dudd... I've heard the 5D is good but over priced -
    anyway...
DSLRs are not investments per se as cameras any more than computers are. DSLR values will decrease over time, but they invest extremely well in your productivity as a photographer.
IMO since you are relatively inexperienced in this dynamic world of DSLR you should start at the $1500 range for camera body only and add high quality lenses. If you choose Nikon, for indoors architecture I recommend the excellent 10.5mm fisheye that using software can provide rectilinear images, the excellent 12-24mm, and a f/1.4 50mm. At the tele end I like the 70-200mm VR, but an 18-200mm would probably suit for photojournalism type shots.
If you choose Canon there are equally excellent lenses available. I recommend against third party lenses because they typically will not support all the features of modern Nikon/Canon DSLR systems in the future even if they do so today.
Note that although architectural is often shot with DSLR (including by me), highest quality architectural images are not created with DSLR cameras. They are shot with medium format film view cameras that allow extensive tilts and swings within the camera body. The use of such cameras makes a huge difference.

  • Newbie wireless question (slightly off-topic)

I didn't want to post this here as it's not entirely an Airport-specific question. I posted this to the iBook forums, but nobody there has answered so my apologies if this is not welcome here. (Any moderators can remove it if that's the case.)
I've been using computers extensively for over a decade, but I'm a total newbie to wifi. I just set up a wireless network in my house and would appreciate some advice/feedback.
My main concerns are whether or not my network is reasonably secure. I know there is no such thing as perfect security, but I don't know if what I've done is good enough or not.
I don't have an Airport base station, but I do have a D-Link Airplus G and an Airport card in my iBook. I have WEP set up on the router and I have enabled MAC filtering, listing only my desktop and my iBook, excluding all others from the network.
I'm fairly certain that nobody in my neighborhood is going to get into my machines this way or be able to sniff my network data stream, but am I right in assuming that nobody can "piggyback" on my Internet connection too? Presumably, if everyone but my own machines are MAC-filtered and kept out, then the Internet connection is also protected. Is that how it works?

WEP and MAC filtering are better than nothing, but you can do better. These are my suggestions:
    1. Use WPA with a pre-shared key (PSK) and TKIP encryption on your Netgear router, along with an alphanumeric passphrase of at least eight characters not found in any dictionary. The equivalent setting on your Mac is "WPA Personal". Unlike WEP security (which an expert can crack in under half an hour), WPA security is currently unhackable by any practical means as long as you use a non-dictionary passphrase. One last point - WPA security requires all your wireless Macs to be running MacOS 10.3 or newer.
    2. MAC filtering is (these days) essentially useless as a wireless security method. Using "packet sniffing" of traffic on your wireless network to find out what MAC addresses are used by computers on your network, and a PC that allows its MAC address to be cloned so that it is identical to the MAC address of one your own wireless computers (which is possible with most PC wireless network adapters) even an amateur hacker can defeat MAC address filtering in minutes.
By the way - I don't think your posted message here is off topic. In my opinion, the Airport discussion forums are the best place to post any questions related to usage of wireless networks. Questions of this nature are virtually never specific to any Mac model.

  • How can we have an anonymous 'User i.d." for discussion group posts only?

hi. Here we are asking a stupid Q on very first post. How can we have an anonymous 'User i.d." for discussion group only? Seem to be stuck with our regular old original Apple i.d. I see how that can be changed, but don't really want to cuz just want to have my posts signed with a more anonymous i.d. name. Should be simple to do, but not obvious to us now.
    Thnx

    Welcome To  Discussions thelnukus!
The Alias of the account you are using, cannot be changed, but you can create a new Discussions Account, with an Alias that you prefer.
You cannot delete your present account. Just stop using it, after you have created a new one.
You can use all of the same info in the new account, Email address, User name, etc, just be sure to insert a new Alias of your choosing.
But your Level(0), Points(0), Total Posts(2), Total Posts Online(2) and Registered Date(12/19/06), will not be transferred.
In the new account, your Post Counts, Points, & Level Status will all start at 0. Your Registered Date will be the date you create the new account.
Your old account, with your previous counts & level, will still be viewable, under the old Alias.
(You really don't have anything accumulated, to be concerned about though.)
After you quit using the old account, those 2 posts, will be archived. What that means is, that if there are no additional responses in the Threads they reside in, the Topics will get continually pushed down on the Topics list. After a certain amount of time, maybe 2 to 6 months, the Threads will be locked, so no responses can be entered. But the Threads will not disappear.
Threads in heavily trafficked Forums, may be archived more rapidly than those in areas, with less activity.
The Topics that you started using the old account, will show your Old Alias, in the Author field of a main forum page, but eventually, readers will have to keep going to the succeeding pages to view them.
If someone were to do a Discussions Search, using these parameters:
Restrict by Category or Forum: All Categories
    Restrict by Date Range: All
Restrict by Username: Your Old Alias
all of your posts, created since about 11/13/05, would be found.
    To create a new account,
Log out of Discussions. You also may have to delete the Apple Cookies in your browser preferences, but I'm not sure this is necessary. Then follow either of these instructions.
-How Do I Create My Account?
If you haven't signed up for an Apple ID for the Apple Store or AppleCare Support website (or forgot your old one), you can create a new account on the My Info webpage. Just click the "create one" link on the right side of the My Info page. Choose your country location and preferred language from the appropriate pop-up menus, then click Create Account. In the resulting page, enter a unique name (such as your email address) in the Apple ID field and fill in your other relevant information accordingly (fields marked with * are required). Click Continue to complete the process.
-To register, click Login in the sidebar on the right side of the Discussions page. In the resulting page, click the "create one" link at the bottom of the page, then click "create one" in the subsequent page and follow the instructions to create an Apple ID. For more information, see the Apple ID FAQ page.
Those instructions, and more info, can also be viewed by clicking on ?Help & Terms of Use, in the right column of Discussions pages.

  • Where does the discussion group go to

Has anybody ever figured out where the discussion group messages disappear to from time to time?
It's been nearly a week since the list of topics has come up.
Is there some evil force at work here, or just the usual?

It usually takes a while to get the email.  But it could go to your spam folder, so check there as well........

  • Off topic, HTML wanted

This is off topic, but wouldn't these forums be helped if we could actually use HTML? I'd rather click a link than copy/paste. And if you wanted to discuss, for example, this mapping:
    ^X - cut
    ^C - copy
^V - pastewouldn't that be nicer as an unordered list, or a table?
It's been 17 years since Berners-Lee invented HTML. At Sun, the network is the computer. I think we should ask Sun, politely, of course, if they would think about bringing these fora right into the twenty-first century.

    warnerja:
Thanks. Didn't know that. Where did you find that?
    Herko_ter_Horst::
I can see lots of reasons to avoid javascript, but "the users might screw it up" is no reason to avoid HTML. I took a look at BBCode and I really don't like the idea of "near HTML" with everything slightly different from the HTML that I know. And I love tables, too, which aren't in BBCode.
    Ceci:
Never? In my website I discuss drawing a button's borders. To show where the lines begin and end I drew a picture. I'd love to say
    <img src=" http://www.martinrinehart.com/graphics/borders.gif">
right here. But I can't, so you have to select, copy, new page, paste and go.
If you take a look I think you'll agree that the picture explains the issues better than a whole lot of words. (Actually, the picture is a nicer version of a pencil sketch I made while I was coding.)

  • Yikes! How do I stop email from discussion group?

I've searched my settings and I can find nothing to block email from my discussion questions! This is incredible! Not only does Apple try to slip Safari onto my system but it provides no way of not receiving emails from the discussion group!
I haven't subscribed to anything and, even when following the instructions to stop the email (i.e., delete option in "My Subscriptions") I can't because no subscriptions are listed!

  • Off topic: Database Unique IDs

    Hi folks,
This is a little off-topic, but I figure that there may be other people out
there whose Forte development would benefit from the discussion.
I am currently building a development framework for our new software
product. As part of that framework I'd like to include the facility for
generating unique, user-invisible, integer database IDs.
Now there is some doubt here that this is actually required and that the
primary key should be whatever the programmer wants it to be, including
    multiple columns if necessary.
I was wondering if anyone can give us some rules-of-thumb regarding
the use of unique IDs as primary keys. Or if someone can point me to
some on-line resources (or even a good book) that can guide us in this
    area.
The arguments I have given for using integer IDs are:
    - Single, integer columns should be faster
    - User invisible integer ID allows editing/duplicates of all user-visible fields
    - Single, integer foreign keys would reduce storage requirements
    - Standardising on integer IDs would allow generic functionality built into
    framework
    - More object-oriented as objects have "built-in" unique identity
I would appreciate any comments people have. We can take this
discussion off-list if that is preferable.

  • HAPPY little Chat Group- or Discussion GROUP ?

The BIG problem with IT is that people start to use Discussion Boards as CHAT GROUPS. I have found out that if a group of posters have registed a HUGE number of posts, then this particular FORUM has degenerated into a CHAT group caterring for only a few. They have special names for any interfering outsiders ! In fact, ALL they manage to do is discourage any WORTHWHILE discussion.
    So, FORUM moderators BEWARE !
    Ernie Lee

So you mean off topic posts like, ummmm, YOURS?

  • New version TB (31.5.0) keeps saying the group list can not be sent

After upgrading to this new version my group lists again started developing errors with a message that says something like An error occurred while sending mail. "The mail server responded: 5.5.0 <list name > invalid address. Please check the message recipient and try again."
If I again resend the messages with everything the same (because the list is correct as is) the addressing it goes through on the second try.
I have remade the lists but it does not fix the problem this was a big problem for me a number of upgrades before and then I had to go back to a older version. But it was fixed in a subsequent upgrade

Turning off the Norton security suite did not change the action
Thank you for offering that suggestion.

  • How to find sum of Discussions Initiated by a user in Discussion Board List

    Hi
I am working on SharePoint Online.
We have used Discussion Board List for discussions on our site. In that list permitted users can initiate as many discussions as they want.
My question is: In SP ONLINE, Can we come to know sum of how many discussions have been initiated by different users OOB or by using calculated column or by any other means without custom code.
For eg: User X has initiated :
    DIscussion A
    Discussion B
    And User Y
    Discussion C
    So what I want is
    UserName        Discussions Initiated
    X                                       2
    Y                                       1
Is this possible OOB. If not, Can you please help in implementing it by custom code on SP Online.
    Regards
    Vikrant Kaushal

    Hi vikrant,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to display the sum of the discussions that a user created in SharePoint Online.
There is an OOB view ‘Management’, it displays all discussions that all users created. You can group by the view using ‘Created By’, then it will display the sum of discussions that a user created.
You can do as:  click List->Current View, switch current view to Management view, then click ‘Modify View’. Scroll to ‘Group By’ section and expand it, under ‘First group by the column’, select ‘Created By’, click OK.
    The result is like:
    I hope this helps.
