Im right there with you Mike. I'm having the same issue. I've looked everywhere for a solution but does not seem to be one. Seems like your local pictures and photo stream copies are one in your iOS 8 devise. Erase the picture from your phone and it's gone from photo stream as well. You can delete a picture via a Mac or PC from you photo stream and it will stay on your iOS 8 device. That is all I have been to find a work around. I suggest using Dropbox like we are. It works great. All your pictures are automatically up loaded, you can share files with your wife and friends or just share the whole account with your wife. App can be password protected. It's the best solution in my opinion.

Yes, it is. The reason is that sometime threads in off-topics can degenerate because they can be of political/religious nature. Such threads are not allowed but we can't check the forum 24hr/day. Other threads in off-topics are pointless blabber. We don't want prospective users who are browsing the forums to know if Arch is OK for them or are searching help on installing it to see these posts. They can give a bad first impression of Arch. I downloaded some music but there's two copies of each song showing up on the phone but not on itunes or anywhere else.

I recently downloaded songs off of itunes on my computer. usually i don't do this because i think its a pain in the *** to connect my iphone to the computer but since i had recently updated it with icloud and the new ios software i figured i could do it just this once. well anyways i downloaded some songs on the PC i have and everything was going well up until i was about to connect the iphone to sync the songs. for some reason i remembered about icloud and i looked up the songs on my phone and sure enough there they were i clicked on them to see if they would play but they wouldn't so i just connected the phone to the computer after everything had synced i found that there was now two copies of the each song i had just bought. at first none of the songs would play but then i connected my phone to wifi and i think this is when the icloud came to into work because now one song will play and the other wont. it annoys me because its not showing whether i double bought the songs or if its some kind of stupid glitch. i dont think i double bought them though because theres no double copies showing up on itunes. i just want to know how to fix this because its annoying to have two copies of the song when one doesnt even play. could anyone please help?

Apple does not respond to these forums but users do. You can sync both devices to the same computer using the same itunes account. After initial setup you can pick and choose what apps you want on your devices. I have an iphone, ipod touch and ipad that I sync to the same computer and account. I have different apps, music, photos, etc on each. The key is one computer, one itunes account and you will be fine.

Canon MX310 Printing two copies when I only want one

Hello-
Whenever I print a document to the Canon printer, via printer sharing on my network, it prints two copies. Number of copies is always set to 1, but it prints two.
It's crazy! Any ideas?

I would suspect that it is something in the printer sharing, like two computers set to share it, and so the print job is sent to both of them. But you should try the usual suspects: Turn off printer sharing, reset the printing system on all computers, then add the printer on the sharing computer, turn on printer sharing on it, and then see if it still happens.

I know this is totally off-topic but this is the best way to send a very important message.
One of those days, someone called to us to offer Solaris support services, because that person was reading this forum and saw our entries. I guess, if we are here asking for help, and helping others, the idea is to use the community to achieve better results.
I understand that every business needs to make money, but there are some limits as well. If we had any interest to hire a consulant and pay for him/her services, we would not be here making posts.
Also, what is much more important, is to share information and knowledge about a product, Solaris, which is open source now.
So, if there are any other business digger here, please do not contact us in anyway, unless we ask for that contact. Right now, that person and his company are on my personal "avoid contact at any cost" list.

While my Epson R340 will of course print for weeks on end just fine, if I suddenly need to print something urgently, it is 100% guaranteed to print it in purple. Or, the heads will need cleaning, resulting in two hours of listening to "neeeeeeeeh neh-neh-neh-neh-neh neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh neh neh neh'. Or, the DVD's doesn't get drawn into the printer properly, the resulting label is half off the disc, and it's just made a nice coaster.
I broke my last Epson while leaping up and down upon it in an apoplectic rage in such circumstances. Really.
But it seems you are right, we have no option. Finally, Print Shop by Broderbund is probably like a high-tech wunderkind chrome robot when compared to the Official Worst Appplication of All Time, Epson Print CD, which closely resembles a turd.

Camera Settings and Printing -off topic

Hi Everyone;
My teenage cousin is going on a trip to Europe for a few weeks and she will be taking alot of digital pictures with her Canon point & shoot camera ( 5 MP SD30), but will not be able to unload her images from the SD card. She already has Three Cards totaling 1.5 GBs and does not want to buy more.
So in order to increase the number images the card will hold, do you recommend lowering the resolution OR lowering the image quality by increasing the JPEG compression in the camera settings, for the purposes of printing ? ( obviously not all her images, but she may want to have some for her school yearbook, friends etc ).
This is a question I have asked myself with my own digital cameras, over the years, if i have to shoot JPEG i usually have the settings to MAX resolution and Lowest compression, in case i want to print some.
Also what would you recommend as the lowest resolution setting (in general, with any camera) if you want to print the following sizes?

5 X 7
8 X 10 or US Letter

(off topic) BEWARE OF CNET DOWNLOADS!!!!

I know that this is slighly off-topic for this forum, but I wanted to spread the word about CNET downloads (download.com). Several months ago, CNET was slapped on the wrist for intentionally adding spyware into the programs on their download website.
Well, they stopped for a while and they're at it again. I wrote to them saying that I had trusted CNET for years because of their policy against spyware and mailicious code. A few weeks ago, I needed to download a program to check wifi channels on my wireless network, and ended up having to perform a full virus/spyware scan aftrer downloading TWO different programs from CNET's download site. After installing each program, I ended up having my homepage hijacked and dozens of popups appearing offering to fix my computer!
I thought that maybe it was just the first program (slipped by heir radar), but the SECOND one had the same problem. I then went to the publisher's website and found his blog complaining that his program was free of malicious code and that it was inserted by CNET/Download.com AFTER he had uploaded it to the web.
His recommendation is that, if you can't go directly to the publisher's site for a download, File-Hippo is still a fairly clean site.
Please pass this info on to friends and colleagues.

I know that you are correct. I have found this to be very true. The only way that I have found to get around this situation is use the "Custom" option to do the install. This allows me to decline all of the garbage that they want to add to my computer. It has worked so far.
This is not the only website that does this, however. I have found it to be true on Softpedia, also. It was my most trusted until lately.

Sort of off topic, but same old question looking for a new answer

Ok I'm ready to start a new site. I'm going cheap as it's all coming out of my pocket including hosting. I want to put a video chat room on my site. Is there anyway to capture a webcam in this fashion in director. I've done tons of searching but I can't really find anything. I'm trying to avoid using the flash communication server for three reasons. 1) I already have the director multiuser server that will host up to 1000 users (the room will never be anything close to that big 50 peeps tops) and my web host will support it and install it for me. 2) I can't find anything at a really cheap price. I'm looking at 25 cam users at once... 3) Actionscript is nothing I've every really worked with before, but I could do the lingo programming.
I have a few questions First of all I read something about putting a flash element on the stage, and that the flash player is what captures the webcam. But I assume that it still needs flash communication sever to upload the video. Is this correct?
Is there an xtra that will do what I want?
I read something about encoding the video to realvideo, but I have no clue how as I've never done anything like that before. Will this work and do you know of a tutorial for this?
Do you know of a really really cheap flash comm host?
Really off topic but, I could write the text chat end of it in cold fusion. Is there a known way to easily add the video in this way?
Does anyone know of a cheap off the shelf video chat room that I can put up on my site and just pay for the bandwidth overage that it uses?

Application Manager appears to have installed two copies of Pro

It apppears that the Application Manager has installed two copies of Pro Xi each taking 1.9gb each.
If I uninstall one off them they both are removed.
Re-install with App Manager and I get two copies.
4gb of disk space for Pro????

Doesn't appear that there are two folders but take a look at how it shows up in the program manager.

VirtualBox - somewhat off-topic

I know this is somewhat off-topic, but I'm hoping there's some expertise here that will be a bit more helpful than when I asked this on the VirtualBox forums.
For a coupe of years now I've been running my own private test lab on my laptop, using VMworkstation. It's been working to my satisfaction, but with all the recommendations to use VirtualBox (after all, it's free) I thought I'd give it a try. This was a few months back, and I ran into a real problem with the way VB appears to handle networking vs. VMware.
With VMware, I set all my virtual machines to use NAT. This allows me to give the vm a fixed IP address, not reveal itself outside the host OS, and still reach the internet for things like yum updates. Obviousely, bridged network would allow me to access the inernet, but would make me have to play by the rules of whatever network I'm on -- my company or my home ISP. Host only would address that but not allow me to pull updates from the internet.
Now, with VirtualBox, I couldn't get NAT to work with a fixed IP address that I assigned to the vm. The guys at the VB forum couldn't seem to understand why that was an issue. They just kept saying to allow the vm to use a DHCP assigned address and 'everything just works'.
I don't have VB installed at the moment, so can't re-run tests, but thought I'd throw this out to see if it rings a bell with anyone, and if so if there might be a solution. I still tend to believe VB will do a fixed guest IP with NAT and I just wasn't seeing how to make it work, but perhaps not.

Sorry for the delayed response. I've just now re-installed VBox and created a 64-bit Oracle Linux 5.7 machine.
After reading yet again the networking chapter in the VBox user manual, I'm afraid I'm just as confused as ever. Perhaps if I detail exactly how I'm used to setting things up with VMware and the resulting behavior, we can see the corollary for VBox.
When I install VMware, it creates two network adapters on the host OS, vmnet1 and vmnet8. vmnet8 is used for NAT. I've installed on several machines and vmnet8 is always assigned an address of 192.168.something.1. The 'something' seems to vary from install to install. I'm not sure what controls the assigned value there, but have never really needed to explore that. My current setup is at 192.168.111.1.
Next, I create a virtual machine. There I configure eth0 to use a fixed IP address of 192.168.xxx.yyy, where 'xxx' matches the value of the vmnet8 adapter on the host os, and 'yyy' is assigned sequentially, starting with 101 for the first machine I create, 102 for the next, etc. When creating these machines, I've found I have to set the gateway and DNS address to 192.168.xxx.2.
With that setup,
- my guest vm can ping the host
- the host can ping the guest vm
- I can create an entry in the host os's 'hosts' file pointing to the guest vm (ie: 192.168.111.101 vmlnxsrv01.vmdomain vmlnsxrv01), then use that name to refer to the vm
- I can use an ssh client like putty (on the host os) to connect to the vm, exactly like I would connect to a remote box on my company's network
- The vm can reach the internet to do web browsing, download rpms, etc.
Now, when i installedVbox, it created one additional network adapter on the host os. It is running at 192.168.56.1
I created the virtual machine, giving it a fixed IP address of 192.168.56.111, gateway and dns address of 192.168.56.2
Ping of the vm ip address from the host returns 'host unreachable' doesn't work either direction

Getting two copies of print when only asking for one.

Hi, whenever I send a job to print, I always seem to get two copies even though I have only requested one. It is wasting both paper and ink. Any ideas how correct this problem?. Thanks.

You could try resetting the printing system. This will remove your current print queues so you will have to add the printer queues again - but you will not need to install the driver software again.
To reset the printing system...
1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse (or right click if supported).
4. Click "Reset printing system ..."
5. Restart your Mac

HELP! Printer spits two copies of one printed doc

I've had this problem with OS 10.4- and now with 10.5 I have the same problem. I'm hooked up to my school's dorm printer and every things works perfect... except that for every one document/page that I print, I get two copies. This isn't just me, my RA who has a mac as well has the same problem. Its a dell printer... I believe... and works fine with everyone else. For the sake of saving trees, does anyone have any helpful advice? Much thanks.

I have the newest driver for my HP Color LaserJet 2600n. Using Bonjour 10.5 finds the printer and the driver. When I click on add I get the spinning beach ball and it will not go away. Can't force quit or restart. I have to power off the computer. I have gone through adding by the IP address and 10.5 assigns it a Generic Postscript driver. I go to print and nothing happens. Computer says it printed but nothing comes out on the printer.
I had to do 3 erase and install to get 10.5 to work.

Off topic, HEY MODERATOR!

I experimented with the preview version of MSFT's IE 10 and can't get it to work on this site? I'm unable to reply to posts, clicking on the "Reply" button does nothing even though the mouse pointer turns into a hand as it should. Same with trying to "Like" a post, nothing happens.
Can something be done about this? IE 10 is the standard brower in Windows 8 and will probably be included in updates for Windows 7 very soon so it needs fixing pretty soon.
FWIW, I don't have any problems with IE 10 in any other forums I've visited, only this one.

How to activate a purchased standalone Lightroom 6 when I already have two copies of Lightroom CC activated.

I have two copies of Lightroom CC installed and working OK. I've purchased a separate, standalone copy of Lightroom 6 for a laptop. When I attempt to install it, the installer says I can't because I already have two copies installed via CC. Is the solution to install the standalone copy with my CC login turned off, and use a different username, etc.?

You need to install the standalone one using a different Adobe ID. Create a new one for it.
