Off topic - What happened to Dr. Duke?

Has a recession hit the Oracle forums causing users to not assign duke stars to threads? I haven't seen a duke star in weeks, my pockets are almost empty and I'm craving to hit the streets in Las Vegas. When will this madness be over?

    What kind of noise?
The only things I can think of that make noise are fans and disks. Fans usually will not cause the computer to shutdown as you describe. My guess is your disk drive died. I hope you made a backup prior to start the ungrade.

The PWR MGMT LED on the front panel of the standby sup720 is off (But the active engine is on). We check the switch guide which states "The SYSTEM and PWR MGMT LEDs on a redundant supervisor engine or RSP are synchronized to the active module.". What happen with this? Thanks!

    HI @bingxiong.feng,

  • PS0 fault - power off. What happened?

    Hi,
The server unexpectedly switched off yesterday morning.
The only one log line I found, by picld, said
WARNING: Device PS0 failure detected by sensor PS0_FAULT_SENSOR.
The system is a SunFire 280R and has two power supplies. When I reached
it, some 18 hours later, the general fault amber led was alight and everything
else was off. I turned the system on without errors, except fsck fixes.
Everything on prtpicl had an ok status after boot.
What is responsible for shutting down the system that way?
Should I disable it (how?) or is there a chance that it did the Right Thing?
PS0 and PS1 are connected to two different UPSes, neither of which
reported a glint. CPU temperature wasn't very good: 80^C (176^F) during the
night and perhaps a bit higher by the time the system crashed. However, I
found no logs about temperature either. The system only has one CPU, and
it has been running unmolested for the previous 13 months. Is there
anything I can do to ensure this kind of crash won't happen again?
    Please help

Hmm.. Looks like you are really close to the shutdown thresholds for both the power supplies and the CPU with regards to temperature. What does a /usr/platform/sun4u/sbin/prtdiag -v show for temperatures? You can also use the RSC card if you've configured it. If so, connect to the RSC card and run the showenvironment command. It will tell you information about temperatures and fault lights.
According to the documentation (which you seem to have found), you can operate on one power supply in the event the other has a failure of some kind. Couple of scenarios that might be happening:
    1. CPU temperature threshold reached causing the shutdown.
    2. Power supply threshold reached on both supplies causing the power off.
    3. One power supply is already bad and when the "good" power supply reaches a temperature threshold and shuts down, the server powers off since there is no good power supply running.
According the the 280R documentation, power supplies have a threshold of 90 degrees C and the CPUs start putting warnings out at 75 degrees C. With your ambient temperature being about 84 degrees F, that could very well heat the internals of the box up enough to cause thermal shutdown...especially if the airflow isn't good.

  • HT3205 Hi, 2011 MBP went on sleep mode and won't turn back on, charger and indicator shows green light, led in front on Trackpad lights on for 2 seconds then back off, MBP won't turn back on, what happened???.

MBP went off and won't turn on again. Charger shows full battery ( green indicator) although I know I was close to low batt befor going off. What happened???

Thank you for your detailed troubleshooting attempts.  Very helpful.  Sorry, I cannot read "logs."  My eyes just glass over on those things.  Hopefully, a knowledgeable user will come along shortly to decipher for you.
I noticed from the pics that your location setting is "untitled."  Have you tried the "Automatic" setting?  Run the diagnostic test?  Results?
    Try the basics first:
Change your router channel number.  Most times this works & is all you have to do.
Disconnect & reconnect your modem.  unplug it for about 10 seconds.  Plug it back in.  Do the same for Apple’s routers.  Wait for everything to reboot.
    System Preferences>Network
    Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.

  • So my i just dropped my iPad and now it won't start up. It just keeps turning on and off. Like the apple symbol shows up and then goes away? What happened and is there a way to fix it. I tried restoring and that didn't work

I pretty much stated it in my question. I dropped my iPad and now it won't boot itself up. The apple symbol shows up, then the screen turns all black and weird looking with a strange green color at the bottom, and just turns off. It keeps doing this over and over. What happened and is there a way to fix it? I also tried connecting it to itunes and that doesn't seem to be working. It detects an ipad but can't seem to read anything else. It tells me to try and restore it but I can't. HELP!!!

Try this. It worked for a few users after a drop.
Turn the iPad over and give it a very HARD slap on the back. May take several slaps.
     Cheers, Tom

    Perform a Reset... Try again...

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

  • I want to know what happened to my ipod cause for exemple, when I turn on sometimes all the screen appears with lines and everything look like lines and I have to turn off again..

I want to know what happened to my ipod, cause after a while that it was off when I want to run in on it gets lines, like if that would be broken and I have to turn off again..

What generation is your iPod? My sister's 2g/3g(I'm not sure which) was doing something similar, but it would put a different graphic on the screen every time. We took it in to the apple store and they didn't determine what it was. One thing they said to try was to restore it and gradually add content on to see if it's an app or something loaded on it. If that doesn't work then they said it's probably something in the software or firmware. They gave her the option of getting one exactly like the one she had or getting the new one like I have. She ended up getting the new one on sale at target.

  • Shortly after starting up, a dark 'film' slowly comes down over the screen and I get a message saying I have to shut down the computer.  I've tried to start from the disk, and before I can even run a repair off utilities, it happens again.  What's up?

When I started my iMac today, it started beeping like an alarm horn.  I shut it down, and held the startup button a little longer to get it to start.  Shortly after starting up, a dark 'film' slowly comes down over the screen and I get a message saying I have to shut down the computer.  I've tried to start from the disk, and before I can even run a repair off utilities, it happens again.  What's up?  Am I screwed?  HELP!!

What you are seeing is a kernel panic, often but not always connected with a hardware or peripheral issue, so, unplug everything except mouse and  keyboard, reboot and hold the shift key as soon as your hear the chime, continue holding it until you see the Apple Icon and spinning progress indicator, then post back.
It will take noticeably longer than normal to start.

Assuming you mean that you performed the repair yourself, it would seem that you either obtained a defective screen or you did some sort of damage when you replaced the screen. You can try asking for assistance on ifixit.com, a site dedicate to those attempting their own repairs, or you can take the iPad to a shop and pay them to try to correct the problem for you. Apple will no longer touch your iPad now that you've attempted your own repairs.

  • What happens when the light goes off on an express airport router?

I was on the internet using a wireless connection with an express airport and suddenly I heard a sound and the light on the router went competelly off.  I would like to know what happened.  I unplugged the airport and plugged in again on another outlet but nothing happens.  The airport has about 3 or 3.5 years.

It's not possible to know exactly what happened within the AirPort Express unless you carefully saw the case open along the seams to examine the internal components.
It's likely that something in the power supply section has failed since the device will not power up. Repairs...if possible.....would likely cost more than the cost of a replacment Express, but if you are handy with small electronics repairs, you could poke around a bit to take a look for something obvious.
