Office 2004 compatibility with OS 10.6.3

I just installed OS 10.6.3 on my MacBook running Office 2004. Word documents are now showing up as blank. Is Office 2004 compatible with Snow Leopard? Any ideas on this issues?

Depends on where they are. If they are in your /Home/Library/Fonts/ folder and in the /System/Library/Fonts/ or /Library/Fonts/ folders then don't remove the ones in /System/Library/Fonts/. If they happen to be fonts located in an Applications Support folder then you can leave them alone. Those are only used by the specific application, for example, Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Not all "duplicates" are true dups. For example, Times and Times Roman are different fonts although they will look identical. But Helvetica Neue could be a problem so you should remove it.
Also, for docs that don't display anything be sure you do have the fonts installed that are used by the docs. Don't remove any standard font located in /System/Library/Fonts/.

I did not upgrade from Excel 2004, since I spent a lot of time and energy  to develop a large number of functions using Excel macros.
I will not upgrade from Snow Leopard.
    What else ?
I had the intention to change my 4-year-old 17" Macbook pro, not compatible with Lion, to a newer one. I had... There is no further reason to do that.
Apple, now loosing old supporters and customers ? Or am I getting too old ?
A 4 year old Macbook Pro should run Lion. Unless its a CoreDue and not a Core2Duo. Remember that PPC computers can not even run Snow Leopard. This was when Apple announced that support for PPC programs would be phased out. Office 2004 is almost 8 years old now. Twice as old as your computer you say needs to be replaced. I can't believe people rush in to install a new system without doing a little bit of research, and the dropping of Rosetta to run old PPC programs was well advertised if you read up on Lion, as was the introduction of Mission Control and Versions. I even read up about them, and I'm not a professional like some who come here. May pay to remember to research in future releases.

  • What version of MicroSoft Office is compatable with Mavericks?

What version of Microsoft Office is compatable with Mavericks?

Office 2004 will not run under Mavericks. If you are running Entourage, you will need to verify your data first. If you upgrade and try to import and it fails, it's difficult to recover your data. Both Entourage 2008 and Office 2011 will import a good Entourage 2004 Identity. Mail requires Entourage to be open to import so you should upgrade to Mail first if you plan on using Mail. Note: Office 2011 H&S version does not contain Outlook. You have to purchase H&B to get Outlook.
While Office 2008 works there are a few quirks under Mavericks.
Office 2008 apps open with new window after upgrading to Mavericks
Office 2011 has features like Sync to Apple applications that no longer works because those features no longer exist in Mavericks.
    Sync Basics
CalDAV & CardDAV are protocols used by Apple, Google, Yahoo and others to sync contacts and calendars. Neither Entourage 2008 nor Outlook 2011 support CalDAV or CardDAV.
Apple removed sync in Mavericks with iTunes.
You can no longer sync with an iPhone or iPad via iTunes. You can only sync with an iPhone or iPad via a cloud-based service like iCloud or Google.
You can no longer sync local calendars with OS X Calendar (formerly iCal). You can, however, continue to sync calendars hosted on a cloud-based service like iCloud or Google with Apple's Calendar.
You can no longer sync with any third-party apps running on your Mac that use Sync Services, like Entourage or Outlook.
If you want to stick with Outlook, I suggest you look at Office 365 if you need sync for contacts and calendars. Otherwise, moving to Apple Mail, Contacts and Calendar with iCloud might be a better option for you.
Until Microsoft adds CalDAV and CardDAV support to Outlook, there is no way to sync other than get an Exchange account. It's $4/month Exchange Online.
A new version of Office for Mac is scheuduled for release later this year or early next year. Speculation is it will be by subscription only. If you are considering purchasing Office 2011, I would check out this deal that would auto upgrade you to the newest version when it's released.

Dreamweaver MX 2004 compatibility with latest versions?
I have templates in a old Dreamweaver MX 2004 and want to update my software. Will I need to go in steps to a version a few years back and then to current?  Or can I go all the way to current?
I also can't get my old dreamweaver to register anymore and they have NO support for it.  Any clues?  It is legit an I have the registration numbers and all the same but it won't take it for some reason.
thank you all for any support you can give.

HTML is HTML.  The product you use doesn't matter much except in terms of "ease of use" and quality of code it generates.  MX is a dinosaur.  Depending on how you built your sites with it, you may need to update your code to modern web standards.  But your site's code will remain editable in any version of DW.
That said, a LOT has changed in 10 years.  So if you don't have really strong coding skills in HTML and CSS, you will struggle with newer versions of DW.  The interface is different, too, so it will take some adjustment.
CS6 is the only version you can still purchase.

  • How to push Office 2004 updates with ARD

I need a method to push the latest Microsoft Office 2004 update with ARD. Can this be done?
It looks like the installer is a installerVise package. Is there anyway to remove the files and build a package with Iceberg or Packagemaker?
What files are replaced and what about rights?
How is everyone else handling this?
    ALL   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I was wondering if there might be a .pkg file embedded in the .dmg disk image file and, if so, if there was a UNIX command line way to extract it.
It sounds like the answer is probably "no."
I talked with Apple Enterprise support and they suggested opening the .dmg file, quitting the installer, and then using the Terminal application to see if there were any hidden files "dot" files. I did this on the Desktop and, curiously enough, even though one could still see the Installer icon on the Desktop, nothing connected with it showed up in response to an "ls -la" command. I assume that they must be parking the installer contents in a temp location somewhere else.
Has anyone ever asked Microsoft if they have any plans to distribute their Office updates in .pkg format? It seems pretty lame not to be able to use ARD to push these updates out easily instead of having to go through the work of doing a software difference between two computers.

  • Will Office 2004 work with Mac OS 10.4.11?

I'm currently running Office 2004 with Mac OS 10.4.2 but will soon be upgrading to Mac OS 10.4.11. I'm wondering if the Office currently installed on my computer will work with OS 10.4.11.
(All the component apps of Office are marked as Version 11.2, except Entourage, which is marked as Version 11.2.1.)
I'd appreciate any thoughts. THANK YOU.
    -Bob

Shouldn't be any problem. I used Office 2004 with 10.4.11 for quite a while until I bought Office 2008.
You might want to update your Office apps, though, with the latest security updates and bug fixes. My Office 2004 apps are all 11.3.something versions.

  • Cannot open Office 2004 documents with Office 2011 on Lion Server

I am in the process of moving our documents from a Tiger server to Lion server.  My users who are using Office 2004 are having no issues, but the users with Office 2011 cannot open any documents with the .doc extension.  I have tried logging on using afp and smb and I get different error messages but no access.  When logging on as smb if I try to double-click I get the file type blocked message.  If I go to File/Open I get the message Word cannot open this document.  The file be in use, etc.  There are no special characters in the file name.  If I try to open a docx document then no problem.  The same problem occurs with xls versus xlsx documents.  Does anyone know if there is something different I should be doing.  Permissions are set for full access.  We have a mix of users with both versions of Office and over 90% of the file server are .doc or .xls documents.  I cannot fully implement until I get this resolved.

I am having the same problem with UCM 10gr3. Our desktop engineers are doing an enterprise upgrade of MS Office to 2010 and this issue just surfaced. Trish, how do your users authenticate to Beehive? We are using a cusom connector using our AD.

  • Is Microsoft Office 2004 compatible with Snow Leopard?

I am just about to buy a new MacBook Pro and would like to transfer the Microsoft Office 2004 programme & all my Word/powerPoint/Excel files from my old MacBook (OS 10.4.11). One local vendor tells me MS2004 is not compatible with Snow Leopard and I have to spend c$250 to buy the Office 2008 version. Another says they are compatible and I can easily transfer. It is important to me as I need to use the Office for my work.
    1.Which is correct?
    2. And are there an significant advantages to the new 2008 Office version which would encourage me to upgrade and spend $250?

    Hi a:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I have been running Microsoft Office 2004 for quite awhile. On my system, it runs just fine. I use both Word and Excel and it does read PowerPoint presentations.
I have read the posts on the Apple Store part of this site and have shied away from Office 2008 because of some negative feedback. Functionally, I could not see any difference from the written material. Since Office 2004 was working just fine, I did not buy the 2008 product.

  • Is MS Office 2001 compatable with intel Macs?

I know Office 2004 works via Rosetta but will the older version work?

I’m going to have to disagree with Peter. I believe Office v.X was the first version to run natively in OSX (I’m using it and it runs very well.)
Office 2001 ran in classic and therefore is not compatible with intel machines- Not 100% sure but if I understand this correctly.... <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272642>

  • Office 2004 crashing with Leopard

I installed Microsoft Office 2004 on my Leopard HD and it keeps crashing. Anyone else having this trouble?

I've been having some problems as well... the main issue was w/ Office 2004 Word, the thesaurus tool wasn't working or showing. I contacted Microsoft through email and this is what they said:
+If it is the new Leopard there is a known conflict because the Leopard has its own Spelling and Grammar tools now and they may be conflicting with Microsoft Office. There is a way to check this out. Create a new test Mac and to do that follow the steps below.+
    +1) Close all open programs.+
    +2) Click on the Apple.+
    +3) Select System Preferences.+
    +4) Select Accounts.+
+5) Click on the Plus sign.+
+5) For the name, short name, password and verify password please use the word "test".+
+6) Please ensure this user can administer the computer.+
+7) Close out of the accounts window.+
+8) Log out of your user and log into the new user.+
+9) Try to open Word then try the Thesaurus.+
I did what they said and the problem seemed like it was fixed but a day later the same thing happened all over again. Hopefully it'll help fix some of your problems... Good Luck!

  • Microsoft Office 2004 Crashing with Leopard on Power Mac G5

I'm running Leopard 10.5.1 on a Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) Dual 2.3 GHz. I have Microsoft Office 2004 installed and it keeps crashing. And I have installed all of the available updates for Leopard and Office 2004. Is anyone else having this problem? Office 2004 is now essentially unusable because it often crashes during save or exit.

    We have a similar problem.
10.5.2 Server, 10.5.2 Client, MS Office 2004 (All latest patches)
Its an intermittent problem that freezes MS Office when navigating through the "Save" Finder. It only appears to occur when trying to navigate through server folders and only affects MS office, all other apps are fine.

  • Will Office 2004 work with Leopard?

I'm about to install Leopard on my MacBook. Will Office 2004 continue to work, or will I need to re-install/upgrade/buy new software? Thanks

Word, Excel, and Powerpoint have no trouble launching. Some have had trouble printing though. There is a new free update from Microsoft which may fix that issue, but I haven't yet seen any reports.
I would backup your work before installing Leopard in any case, just in case you may have underlying issue that wasn't resolved as my FAQ* explains:

  • How to make Microsoft Office 2004 work with Lion 10.7.5

I just upgraded my iMac with Lion and now have OS 10.7.5, and now I have a message that "You can't open the application Microsoft Word because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."  However, I run Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac on my PowerBook Pro--is it possible to do something to the 2004 edition to make it work with the upgrade?  Or do I have to buy a new Microsoft office program?

Thanks--that's what I was afraid of.
I found the other versions of this question AFTER I posted mine--silly of me...and nice of you not to point it out.
I will look at OpenOffice but I dislike iWork so will likely get the new Microsoft version.

  • Office 2013 compatibility with BootCamp

Hi, I am fairly new to the community.  I recently purchased a IMAC and I have the capability of downloading either the compatible Office 2011 for MAC or Office 2013 and then I guess using Bootcamp to run on my IMAC.  I also want to purchase the Office Project program to use on MAC in bootcamp.  I am looking for a recommendation on whether or not I could should purchase the 2013 Office Suite and use via bootcamp (if that's even possible)... or just get the 2011 compatible version (I've used this in the past on my MacBook Pro with success).
For someone who is not that saavy yet with MAC, how easy is it to use the BootCamp system and switch back and forth using the Office program?  Does anyone know if this is even possible with Office 2013?  I saw another thread on this but to be honest there was some bickering going back and forth and I couldn't understand the answer to the question.  Any help would be huge!
    THX

    Ah! I feel you.
Well, bootcamp is fairly simple and automated but does require some extra steps you might not be willing to take... Also it is quite hard-drive taxing since it requires a partition.
(your harddrive is split between mac and windows)
Honestly, if you dont need windows for anything id just install office 2011, not much changes except some online things that you can substitute by using google drive or onedrive or any cloud service (even icloud).
Id say dont bother bootcamping... from what it sounds like (no offense, please) youre not THAT experienced. I mean this just as a point of fact, not as a derogatory statement.
Bootcamp installs basically look like this.
Nab a windows disk or iso
    Plug in an 8gb+ usb
Run bootcamp assistant (straightforward)Pick how much harddrive real estate goes to windows (not less than 30gb please)
    The installation should begin automatically
Itl ask for a product key, input that.
Then the "where do you want to install windows" screen will pop up.
Click the partition (itl be obvious what this is) called BOOTCAMP
Format it (also obvious, might be inside an options or advanced options folder depending on the windows version)
    Wait.
Once it boots, bootcamp will pop up and will as you to click next (do so)
Then itl ask for a reboot (do so)
    Thats it.
There are many ways to switch what operating system to boot into, one is holding alt on boot (im not going into detail so the rest youd have to ask me for)
    Again, hope that helps.
