Office 2004 for mac:

Installed on my new MacBook, any way to get Excel and Word to appear/function in Spanish? (I set language in system preferences "international" to espanol, so all the other applications appear in spanish but not windows.) Thanks.

Look up "Microsoft Software Cross Language Rights" on the microsoft website and you'll find a document describing how you can legally use different language versions of their software.
For example:
Customers who acquire a License for a specified software are eligible to switch to another language version of that same software for no charge, provided that the language version does not have a higher price than the language version that was originally acquired
Further:
All Academic Microsoft Volume License customers are granted Cross Language Rights regardless of estimated retail price
So I guess you will be able to download and legally use a Spanish version as long as it is not more expensive than the version you have at the moment. If you are an education user then there will not be a problem.
Hope this helps

  • Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac - missing options

    Hello!
I've got some trouble with Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac:
I realized that there are some options missing in the menu bars, such as "Insert > Cross-reference", etc.
Today I reinstalled the whole thing including all updates (11.3.7). No success.
However I noticed that on my admin account the options are existent but still not on my "everyday account".
    Therefore my question:
How can I remove user specific preferences for Office? I guess this might solve my problem.
Thanks to anyone who has some hints for me!

Since Office is not an Apple product, you'll probably want to use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups> rather than an Apple forum that focuses on compatibility issues between Macs and Windows.
Be sure to search the forum first in case someone has already had a similar question answered

  • Trouble installing Office: 2004 for Mac

Hello. I hope someone can help me. So here's the deal.
I've been using Office X for some time. I bought Office 2004 for Mac (Student Teacher Edition) from a friend who upgraded last May. I got the manual and the Product ID with it. I never got around to Installing it, but my hard drive failed recently and Apple replaced it, obviously without any of my stuff on it.
So I decided if I have to reinstall all my software, I'd go ahead and use the Office 2004 as I don't think the Office X is fully compatible with Tiger (because of it's age and a few issues I've had with it over the past two years). Now, here's the problem. When I tried to install it, the product ID didn't work as the Product/CD Key. I called my friend and she no longer has the box or the Product Key, and of course, the Product key from my Office X doesn't work.
So now I'm stuck. Is anyone familiar with Office 2004 for Mac? Is there any difference between the "retail" version and the Student/teacher version that would prevent the Product Key from one with working with the other? Would anyone be willing to share their Product key with me, to install the software so I can get back to work?
I've already lost 4 days in time (and have to recreate 2 days worth of work that was done after my last file backup) and don't have time to deal with this stuff.
I may be contacted directly at robertben1 at comcast dot net.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions/help.

  • Anyone using office 2004 for mac, please help!

    Dear all,
i know this is probably the wrong place for this post, but i've always been able to find my answers here..so genuine apologies in advance
i bought office 2004 for my macbook a few months back..i'm able to open word, excel etc no problems...but when i am typing in word on a regular document..my spellcheck does not work..even where there is obvious spelling problems,it does not highlight it with a red line underneath...when i run a spell chenck,it tells me its complete and the spelling and grammer are complete, when they are obviously not!!
in the compatibilty report it tells me that that word cannot identify text language...when i select language dialog box and english (uk)nothing changes
I've also just realised that when i type in a word notebook document, spell check works!?!??!
Anyone any ideas,i have a dissertation due for college in a few days and i need it to work!!!
again apologies if this is out of order posting here,
    regards,

how do i uninstall office completely???
Before you do an uninstall you may want to test your preference files for corruption. There are three which can become corrupeted, but probably only the first two will be of issue.
Quit Word and any other Office Applciations.
Browse to your User home account and locate the following files:
    ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/com.microsoft.Word.prefs.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/com.microsoft.Office.prefs.plist
(the third has to do with fonts and I don't think that is at issue)
Drag these to your desktop and relaunch Word. Word will re-create these files.
If all works as it should you can trash these files. You will probably have to reset some preferences and Autocorrect settings. Be careful of what you reset as that may have been the cause of the issue.
If this does not work you may replace the newly created files with the ones you dragged to the desktop, or you may try re-installing Office.
If you want to completely remove Office and attempt a re-install to see if it corrects the problem: The uninstaller is located in HD/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/Remove Office.
I understand that you are in a timecrunch with your paper being due. I am sure with enough troubleshooting that you can and will find a solution to the Office problem. If the above steps do not work, however, you may also want to have a look at the free NeoOffice suite to get your paper done in the meantime.
    http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php
I am not including the link as a means of trying to pawn off the problem as I think any problem is ultimately fixable, but it may give you an option to meeting your deadline.

  • Microsft office 2004  for MAC

I have MS office 2004 installed for several years. Just recently Powerpoint has been a problem. I can view about 6 files and then no more. I then thrash the plist and restart and everything is OK for a short time and then nothing again.
Anyone got any ideas what else I can do?
    thanks and regards....

Have you tried rebuilding the database?Take a look at this [Microsoft|http://www.microsoft.com/mac/help.mspx?product=PowerPoint&app=3] help page for PP, there may be something there to help you. I would suggest rebuilding your database, but am not sure if you can do that for PP alone.

  • Microsoft office 2004 for mac does not work now how do i get it to work!!

how do i get microsoft office for mac 2004 to work now i have downloaded Lion

Office 2008 is the oldest version that runs under lion. Office 2004 requires rosetta, which was discontinued as of 10.7. you'll have to upgrade to office 2008 or newer if you're using lion!

  • Replaced an older IMac that had OS snow leopard and could run microsoft Office 2004 for Mac. I'm told that this version of Office for Mac will not run on OS mountain lion. Is this true? or is there a workaround?

Just received a new Imac running OS10.8 Mountain Lion. I have MS Office 2004 that ran ok on OS 10.6 Snow Leopard. I'm told that this software will not work on the new OS. Are there any work arounds?

... and have only used Word and hate to try to learn something new if not necessary.
The dirty little secret that they are keeping from you, is YES, there is a way to continue to use Microsoft Office's Word 2004 in Mountain Lion!
It is to install Snow Leopard Server into Parallels 8 on your new Mac and then install and run Word 2004 there:
Apple is now selling Snow Leopard Server for $19.99 + sales tax & shipping costs at 1.800.MYAPPLE (1.800.692.7753) - Apple Part Number: MC588Z/A (telephone orders only). Parallels 8 retails for $79 but can be found for less searching for discounts on the internet.
Personally I hate the way Microsoft has changed Word 2008 and Word 2011, because I was 100% comfortable with how Word 2004 was setup and utilized.  There is a learning curve to both of these upgrades and a more steeper one to the "free" alternatives that were suggested to you.
In a perfect world, you should upgrade to Office 2011; I did (actually it was a gift, but the price was not an object for me anyway). But the world is not perfect...
So, if, like me, there are times that you are most comfortable operating in the Word 2004 environment, my suggestion offers you a easy, stable, relatively inexpensive means to continue to do so in Mountain Lion.
    GOOD LUCK!

  • Office 2004 for Mac update 11.3.0 problems

When I was notified by AutoUpdate that there was a new version of Office for Mac available (I have been using it for nearly three years), I followed instructions and after the download got the message: "The installer could not locate the correct version of the software required to install this update. See the Read Me file included with this installer to determine if your software meets the requirements for this update."
I reinstalled Office 2004 and then attempted to download and install the previous updates 11.2.0 and got the same message. The previous install had accepted 11.2.0, and I am now back at 11.0. Also, when I now activate Word, I get an error message "An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework library." However, after clicking the OK button on this message, I can proceed and use Word normally. Do I have any real problems here?
    Anyone with any ideas?

Back again. The Remove Office tool did its thing. I repaired permissions. Then reinstalled from CD. Then repaired permissions. Opened each element of Office once and closed it. Repaired permissions. Ran Microsoft AutoUpdate. Showed downloading 11.3.0 but would not do anything after download. The same messages as before came up. And I cannot comfortably find that Microsoft stuff in the Library. There is quite a bit of Microsoft file types in the Library and I left them alone.
Then went to Mactopia and downloaded the update. Got a .dmg on my desktop which I double-clicked. However it too provided the same message about installation.
I guess I could phone AppleCare (I have the contract) but I somehow have a feeling that this is not their problem as the program is from Microsoft.
    Slater.

  • Microsoft office 2004 for mac installation problem

    Hi there,
I initially download the microsoft office 2004 trial. I bought the student & teacher edition and install it in my macbook. There was a uninstall button on the trial software that I press and I don't know if that removed the trial version. The problem is "this product is license to office 2004 test drive user, my name and product ID number" are all showing initially when you press any of the office 2004 icon. Having the test drive user showing up makes me wonder if the trial version was totally deleted. If the trial version was not deleted, will it slow down the program and how can I remove it without re-installing the full version that I bought.
    Any help is appreciated
    thanks so much

  • Should I uninstall Office 2004 for Mac after installing Office 2011 on new iMac ?

Replacing an aging G5 with a refurb 2011 iMac. The G5 has Office 2004 on it. When I migrate to the new iMac, do I need to move the Office 2004 to the new machine to not lose any documents ? And then unistall it on the new machine once I have Office 2011 on board ? Do I bother uninstalling it ?
Haven't had to migrate to a new computer in a while, so any suggestions are appreciated. I also have TM and a clone of the G5.
    Thanks.

This is exactly what I did. After downloading Office 2011 and opening some of my old Office 2004 files to make sure they were ok, I trashed the Office 2004. Everytime I opened an old file it asked if I wanted to save it the the new Office. I did. It's been three years now and all my old files work perfectly.

  • Office 2004 for Mac:: Problems Importing Data from Windows

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this but:
I am switching from Windows and Outlook 2003 and trying to move my data from Outlook into Entourage. I was somewhat successful using O2M to import my Contacts and E-Mail.j However O2M created a bunch of .ics files that I can’t seem to get into Entourage’s calendar.
I also have a lot of Outlook Notes and Tasks that I can’t seem to import or drag into Entourage’s Notes and Task windows.
Any suggestions? I didn’t think it would be so hard. You would think that Microsoft as the vendor of both programs would have provided a smoother method of moving data between their programs.
    Thanks
    Ben

Thanks for the response. I will check the site that you reference.
Just out of curiousity--why is this not a good place to ask this question? As a new user to the Apple/Mac community am I relegated to asking questions only about Apple hardware and software written only by Apple? One of the enticements for switching over to Apple from Windows, besides getting tired of having to be a technical wizard, were all the platitudes about how easy it is to switch. Well it isn't all that easy.
Don't get me wrong, I am loving my new MacBook Pro and I imagine once I get my Outlook data over to the Mac I will be really happy. But given that all my email, notes, tasks, calendar and contacts for years have been on my Windows machine I would have liked a little less hair pulling trying to get it over to my mac. It has not been clean and it hasn't been easy [over a week now].
Somehow I thought "Well I'm probably not the first person to be taking this route and where would I find the largest number of people who may have already gone before me and could offer directions/suggestions." I did do my research and based on the number of postings concluded that Office2004 for Mac was the best choice if I was using Outlook on Windows and needed to continue to use Word/Excel/Powerpoint with the rest of the business world. And it did appear from all the postings that a lot of people use this package.
Again, this is not meant to come off harsh, but it is a little off-putting to be told "This isn't the appropriate place for this question"
    Thanks
    Ben

  • MS Office 2004 for Mac : updates not installing

I've just realised that the last three Office updates I downloaded were all the same (11.3.3). Immediately after the last download, I checked to see if any more were available, and there was 11.3.3 still waiting.
On reflection, I don't think that this is a new problem. Recent updates I've downloaded have been about 57 MB and have contained all previous updates.
    Can anyone help, please?
    MacBook1,1   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi Pica!
It's worth remembering that not all updates change the version number of the applications. Microsoft's way of making it really easy to remember what updates you have installed!
The 11.3.2 update just before Christmas was a mistake on their part, as you may remember. The latest one is 11.3.3, which did change the version numbers of all the Office applications to 11.3.3 - except for Powerpoint, which stayed at 11.3.2. But as the 11.3.3 updater was a Combo updater, and if your Word has version number 11.3.3, you have got it all.
If you downloaded the updater seperately, rather than using the auto update function, that could be the reason why it still shows up as 'available'.
There is no harm in running it again just to make sure.
