Word 2003 w/ Office 2007 compatibility pack crashes after writing PDF
Writing PDF from Word 2003 SP3, all patched, using (most recently) Acrobat 7.1.0 has for some months crashed on my system after the PDF is written but just before the Acrobat window closes and control of Word is returned to the user. Word is hung so severely that it is not possible to close it with Task Manager. And, it happens every time, whether from a single-page document or a >300 page API document with extensive graphics, links etc.
The generated PDF is complete and valid, but has not been closed, so at this point it cannot be accessed. No choice but to reboot, after which the PDF can be accessed and is just fine. Word shrapnel (temporary files) litter the folder because it never closed properly.
Searching the net I could never find anything that sounded like my problem. It felt to me like a font issue. On a hunch, I uninstalled the Office 2007 compatibility pack (which comes with Vista fonts that I've never used), and along with it, several associated Office 2007 security updates and service pack 1 for the compatibility pack.
Once again I can write PDF's without hanging Word. If I had nothing better to do with my time, I might try reinstalling the compatibility pack, its service pack and the updates one by one to see when (or if) the problem might return... but this has caused me enough grief so all I'm prepared to do is post this information in the hope that it might help someone else.
BTW - I also use Solid Documents PDF Converter once in a blue moon to create Word docs from PDF files. It also has PDF generation capability, which I tried as a troubleshooting measure. Same result. Clearly this is nothing to do with Acrobat per se.
Scott Willing
QSound Labs, Inc.Sad to report that a few days later, the problem had returned, so my joy was short-lived. Now it's even more mysterious than ever. Why would uninstalling a compatibility pack provide *temporary* relief?

What version of MicroSoft Office is compatable with Mavericks?
What version of Microsoft Office is compatable with Mavericks?
Office 2004 will not run under Mavericks. If you are running Entourage, you will need to verify your data first. If you upgrade and try to import and it fails, it's difficult to recover your data. Both Entourage 2008 and Office 2011 will import a good Entourage 2004 Identity. Mail requires Entourage to be open to import so you should upgrade to Mail first if you plan on using Mail. Note: Office 2011 H&S version does not contain Outlook. You have to purchase H&B to get Outlook.
While Office 2008 works there are a few quirks under Mavericks.
Office 2008 apps open with new window after upgrading to Mavericks
Office 2011 has features like Sync to Apple applications that no longer works because those features no longer exist in Mavericks.
Sync Basics
CalDAV & CardDAV are protocols used by Apple, Google, Yahoo and others to sync contacts and calendars. Neither Entourage 2008 nor Outlook 2011 support CalDAV or CardDAV.
Apple removed sync in Mavericks with iTunes.
You can no longer sync with an iPhone or iPad via iTunes. You can only sync with an iPhone or iPad via a cloud-based service like iCloud or Google.
You can no longer sync local calendars with OS X Calendar (formerly iCal). You can, however, continue to sync calendars hosted on a cloud-based service like iCloud or Google with Apple's Calendar.
You can no longer sync with any third-party apps running on your Mac that use Sync Services, like Entourage or Outlook.
If you want to stick with Outlook, I suggest you look at Office 365 if you need sync for contacts and calendars. Otherwise, moving to Apple Mail, Contacts and Calendar with iCloud might be a better option for you.
Until Microsoft adds CalDAV and CardDAV support to Outlook, there is no way to sync other than get an Exchange account. It's $4/month Exchange Online.
A new version of Office for Mac is scheuduled for release later this year or early next year. Speculation is it will be by subscription only. If you are considering purchasing Office 2011, I would check out this deal that would auto upgrade you to the newest version when it's released.

CS4 and Office 2007 Compatibility
All,
Does anyone know if Adobe Creative Suites 4 is compatible with Microsoft Office 2007? Is there any documentation out there on this subject?
Thank you for the help! Thanks for the info. Three more questions:
1. Any idea what "early 2009" means? Without the Developers
Toolbox I would have to completely rewrite my existing sites to use
CS4. WAY too much work.
2. I make very heavy use of InterAKT's Dynamic Lists and
Nextio Forms. Does the Developer Toolbox contain these two things?
3. Any idea if moving to the Developers Toolbox is painless
if I have used InterAKT extensions? Will they "upgrade" when
working with the page, or do I have to rewrite all pages using the
new Developer's Toolbox extensions?
Thanks for any additional info.... -
Word 2007 compatibility with RoboHelp
Does anyone know if or when RoboHelp for Word will be
compatible with Word 2007? Can you even install RoboHelp X5 on
Office 2007 to use for RoboHelp HTML? I know that WinHelp is
deprecated for Vista. Although we have converted our ongoing
projects to WebHelp, we still have a large number of legacy help
projects that we are not going to convert.
I would like to find out if there will be a patch to make RH
X5 compatible with Office 2007, or if we need to wait until the
next full release of RoboHelp.quote:

RoboHelp HTML without first reinstalling Word 2003, or did Office
2007 just cause the whole program to hang?
I didn't work with RH for about half a year. In this period I
installed a new version of Norton Internet Security 2007 and MS
Office 2007. Initially my whole system hung, but there was a
workaround: let NIS stop scanning office documents on opening in
office.
I also installed IE7 and just a few days ago a friend of mine
reported a serious problem with Macro's in Excel in combination
with IE7.
So when I clicked the RH shortcut the other day and the
system started acting weird I had no idea what could cause the
problem.
The symptoms were this: RH did not open at all. Instead I've
got a dialogue box stating something like 'preparing installation'
with only a cancel button.
After waiting a wile a second dialogue opened stating
something like 'No connection to install server' with a retry and a
cancel button. Pressing the cancel button resulted in disappearing
the second dialogue, but the first remained until rebooting the
system.
Installing a previous version of word (in my case 2003
standard edition and completely stripped) did the trick for me! -
Does Office 2007 work with CVI automation
We've used Office with CVI with varying degrees of success over the years, typically to generate reports or to populate excel spreadsheets with measured data.
Now I'm running XP SP3 and Office 2007 with CVI 2009.
Office 2007 seems to be so significantly different from previos versions, I'm wondering if it's use is supported with CVI?
CVI 2009 still refers to "Excel2000.fp" for example, will it work with Excel 2007? The help mentions that it will work with "Excel 2000 and later compatible versions".
In the past as I recall NI's position is "maybe, but if it doesn't, it's not our fault".
So I thought I'd ask and see what the experience has been. I can install an older version of Office if need be.
Menchar
Message Edited by menchar on 06-10-2010 10:18 AMFWIW, we have been using "excel2000.fp" for years (with a few thousand users) and it still seems fine for simple exporting of data to Excel 2007.
I think it all boils down to the Excel object model and whether there have been changes related to the functionality you wish to use.

I have an iBook 900MHz, and I can't open up my Office 2007 files from my windows computer on my Office Mac Word. With office 2007, they have changed all the file extentions. (.doc becomes .docx, power point becomes .pptx)
I have manually changed it to a .doc file, but it still won't open, and I get an error message.
any help, or a link to a new Office Mac plug in would be appreciated.
Thanks.

E90 and Office 2007 Compatability
Ihave office 2007 on my laptop. When i transfer files to my e90, it does not recognise them. I have to save the files on my laptop in office 2003 format and then transfer again to my e90 which then recognises it. Is there a way around this or an update for the office that is installed in my e90? Also i have pocket express which came automatically installed on my e90. I see its java and hate that application after suffering errors in my nseries handsets. When i remove it either via app manager or via the menu option using the c-option, when i restart the phone the application pocket express appears again. Is there no way to delete it permanently?
History is a mirror of the past!
And a lesson for the present!
(Persian Proverb)Hi there as far as I know the latest version of E90-1 software (V300) has support for Office 2007. If you want to do it an easier way, enter the office menu and then quickoffice. Scroll to updates and you should find a reasonably priced update for compatibility of 2007 documents.
As for your second issue, there must be an installer file somewhere on your phone that keeps re-installing the application. You must un-install this as well when removing the application and this should stop it from re-installing very time you restart.

"PPTx" or away to to do this other then saving the PowerPoint in
the 97-2003 "PPT" format?
I have my own Licensed server and currently still running AC
