Office 2008 and 2011 do not open on Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion

Can someone please tell me how to get Microsoft office to open in Mountain Lion.  I had Office 2008 when I upgraded to Mountain Lion.  I could not open it after that so I bought MS Office 2011 and it does not open either.  I need to use these applications.  What is the fix for this.  I unloaded and reloaded 2008 and loaded, unloaded and reloaded 2011 - that does not seem to be the solution. Is there a setting I need to change, or a complete unload I need to do, or what. Can someone give me some answers that work?
Thank you if you can.

I don't know about Office, but you can use this for free to get back to work

    Never mind. Thank you anyway!
I downloaded a newer version from Amazon and that seems to have made everything right again.

Likely because it's a not self contained and/or it's game and copy protected, so install it via the developers instructions instead, which likely means it will have ot be uninstalled off the first machine, the developer contacted for a new license key before installing on the newer machine.
If you want it on both machines, you will need to likely buy another license.
Most developers are fine with transfering license between machines, you have to contact them.
They just want to make sure it's only on one machine so they are not getting robbed.

I updated my MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion and now it is slow in starting up and loads a number of probrams. How can I fix the problem?

Have you tried starting in Safe Mode and see if the slowness still occurs?
    Restart holding the "shift" key.
(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)
If this works look in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items and delete any third party login items (-), you can always add them back with the (+). Also look in /Library/Startup Items. Nothing is put in that folder by default, so anything in there is yours.
    Reboot normally and test.

The subject of buying/selling a Mac is quite complicated.  Here is a guide to the steps involved. It is from the Seller's point of view, but easily read the other way too:
    SELLING A MAC A
Internet Recovery, and Transferability of OS & iLife Apps
    Selling an Old Mac:
    • When selling an old Mac, the only OS that is legally transferable is the one that came preinstalled when the Mac was new. Selling a Mac with an upgraded OS isn't doing the new owner any favors. Attempting to do so will only result in headaches since the upgraded OS can't be registered by the new owner. If a clean install becomes necessary, they won't be able to do so and will be forced to install the original OS via Internet Recovery. Best to simply erase the drive and revert back to the original OS prior to selling any Mac.
    • Additionally, upgrading the OS on a Mac you intend to sell means that you are leaving personally identifiable information on the Mac since the only way to upgrade the OS involves using your own AppleID to download the upgrade from the App Store. So there will be traces of your info and user account left behind. Again, best to erase the drive and revert to the original OS via Internet Recovery.
    Internet Recovery:
    • In the event that the OS has been upgraded to a newer version (i.e. Lion to Mountain Lion), Internet Recovery will offer the version of the OS that originally came with the Mac. So while booting to the Recovery Disk will show Mountain Lion as available for reinstall since that is the current version running, Internet Recovery, on the other hand, will only show Lion available since that was the OS shipped with that particular Mac.
    • Though the Mac came with a particular version of Mac OS X, it appears that, when Internet Recovery is invoked, the most recent update of that version may be applied. (i.e. if the Mac originally came with 10.7.3, Internet Recovery may install a more recent update like 10.7.5)
    iLife Apps:
    • When the App Store is launched for the first time it will report that the iLife apps are available for the user to Accept under the Purchases section. The user will be required to enter their AppleID during the Acceptance process. From that point on the iLife apps will be tied to the AppleID used to Accept them. The user will be allowed to download the apps to other Macs they own if they wish using the same AppleID used to Accept them.
    • Once Accepted on the new Mac, the iLife apps can not be transferred to any future owner when the Mac is sold. Attempting to use an AppleID after the apps have already been accepted using a different AppleID will result in the App Store reporting "These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID".
    • It appears, however, that the iLife Apps do not automatically go to the first owner of the Mac. It's quite possible that the original owner, either by choice or neglect, never Accepted the iLife apps in the App Store. As a result, a future owner of the Mac may be able to successfully Accept the apps and retain them for themselves using their own AppleID. Bottom Line: Whoever Accepts the iLife apps first gets to keep them.
    SELLING A MAC B
Follow these instructions step by step to prepare a Mac for sale:
Step One - Back up your data:
    A. If you have any Virtual PCs shut them down. They cannot be in their "fast saved" state. They must be shut down from inside Windows.
    B. Clone to an external drive using using Carbon Copy Cloner.
    1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
    2. Select the Source volume from the Select a source drop down menu on the left side.
    3. Select the Destination volume from the Select a destination drop down menu on the right
    side.
    4. Click on the Clone button. If you are prompted about creating a clone of the Recovery HD be
    sure to opt for that.
Destination means a freshly erased external backup drive. Source means the internal
    startup drive.
Step Two - Prepare the machine for the new buyer:
    1. De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
2, Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
    3. Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
    4. Turn off File Vault, if enabled.
    5. Disable iCloud, if enabled: See.What to do with iCloud before selling your computer
Step Three - Install a fresh OS:
    A. Snow Leopard and earlier versions of OS X
    1. Insert the original OS X install CD/DVD that came with your computer.
    2. Restart the computer while holding down the C key to boot from the CD/DVD.
    3. Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu; repartition and reformat the internal hard drive.
Optionally, click on the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
    4. Install OS X.
    5. Upon completion DO NOT restart the computer.
    6. Shutdown the computer.
    B. Lion and Mountain Lion (if pre-installed on the computer at purchase*)
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because
it is three times faster than wireless.
    1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X
    Utilities window appears.
    2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
    3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click
on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on the Security button
and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
    5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
    6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
    7. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
    8. Upon completion shutdown the computer.
*If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store then you cannot transfer your license to another party. In the case of the latter you should install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. You need to repartition the hard drive as well as reformat it; this will assure that the Recovery HD partition is removed. See Step Three above. You may verify these requirements by reviewing your OS X Software License.

  • 2 identical macbook pro with mountain lion osx 10.8.1...one is fast and one is slow

    Helllo.
I am a new user with mac, and i have purchased two macbook pro and both of them have the same application and programs! the one is fast like a rocket, and the other one is very slow! Even when i want to open finder, i have to wait 5-10 seconds to open! Every time that i want to open anything from a simple file up to a simple program or application i have to wait for the spining wheel to stop...each time takes up to 5-10 seconds!
The only difference between the two, is that the slow macbook pro has the mackeeper application installed!! I find it very strange and have in mind that the two macs, where bought 2 months ago!!! Should i be worried?

Call me crazy, or call me stupid....but how on earth is backing up data is going to speed up my mac????
ok, i can backup my files in order not to lose anything!!! How is saving my data going to make my mac work faster?
I apologise if i sound a bit like an idiot, but i dont think that backing up my files is going to help me....i dont care if data is lost because the mac is not going to be used in work areas....i just need it to change gear and speed the f...k up again
My acer laptop that was bought 2 years ago is a lot faster than the mac, and the first performance problems related with speed, started a few months ago!!!! This mac after 2 months too slow!!!! i must wait for 5-10 seconds in order to open anything from a simple file up to a simple application....is it better if i get it back from the place i got it, and ask them to see if anything is wrong? only 80GB of hard disk is used and i still have 670 GB free! Do not overuse it or nothing! I just cant understand it!!!! Sorry for being so paranoid!!!

I have problems with certain applicaitons not sync'ing (like email, cal, notes)...need help

There are a few twists here. This is my opinion of a quick and easy way to do what you want to do.
Get a 2.5" sata enclosure like this one - this is just a sample:
    http://www.amazon.ca/eForCity-2-5-inch-SATA-Enclosure-Blue/dp/B0083OOV9G/ref=sr_ 1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1360012807&sr=8-1
Put the new ssd in the enclosure, connect it to the Mac using the included USB cable. It is now an external drive.
Format the drive using Disk Utility.
Download and run Carbon Copy cloner, and clone your drive to the new external.
Shutdown. Open the MBP and remove the SSD drive from the enclosure and put it in the place of the old drive.
Boot the MBP. Once you know the new drive is up and running, you can get to the process of installing the old one in the optical bay.

  • Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion not downloading Printer Drivers

I have an Epson XP-300 All in One Printer.  I tried downloading the software and its drivers from the installatioin CD and Epson Website but my Mac just won't do it.  When I click Download on the Epson Site safari won't open the page.  It tries to but then says "Safari can't open page".  I am running Mountain Lion.
    Help...anyone?

Thanks for the quick reply Sig.  I actually downloaded this file from the exact location you suggested last night. I then deleted the printer from "Printer and Scan" list and tried to add it again hoping it would solve the problem but now I can't even add the printer again since the Mac doesn't even recognize there is a printer in range.  Still don't know what to do.  Suggestions??  Thanks.

  • Hi i am using macbook pro with mountain lion os x.From a coupe of weeks i m facing the problem with my wifi bcz in safari or any other web browser through wifi i m not  getting the enough speed but in my windows i m getting 2-3 times faster speed....help

help me in this regard........i m facing a lot of difficulties

I think this is a router problem, not a problem with the Mac.
I can join other networks just fine, I can see packets being sent to and from the router by other computers...
The router accepts my WEP key and assigns me an IP, but nothing more after that. I've reset the router through the button on the back and software reset to defaults. Nothing helps. Other computers can join the network, but some of our other notebooks cannot connect to the router, so it's not just a mac problem.
So I'm going to mark this as answered... thanks for you help M@C$4l!f3

Have deleted (secure delete) and reinstalled several times. Got it to open once right after download... Usually crashes/hangs upon attempted start-up, then shows as "Application unresponsive".   Must be forced to quit.
No other audio interfaces or drivers installed that I am aware of. Playback through onboard audio interfaces, sometimes routed to Apple TV via Cat 5 cable, out to receiver via fiber optic SPDIF, or to Panasonic HDTV via HDMI cable through Thunderbolt port.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

    Hi,
I purchased Huawei Dongle and trying to connect with my new MacBook Pro (OS- Mountain Lion) USB port 3.0 but unfortunately it does not support.
When I plugged in my macbook the power is flowing in dongle due green light blinking twice in every 3 sec but no connection found or diver shown.
Please let me know how I have to use it. I got some suggestion for USB hub 2.0 but It does not make any sense and driver installation.
So please suggest proper direction to use it and provide link to install any driver.
    Thanks
    Tauheed Ahmad

Yes Clinton I did same, but they were (Huawei customer support) surprised about this problem, They behave like they have no idea about USB 2.0 and  3.0 knowledge. They handsUp that reason I posted my problem in this forum.
So is there any better solution to use any mediator between these USB version handling, Please let me know.
    Thanks

The most frequent problem in an optical drive is a dirty lens.  Use a lens cleaning DVD, a few shots of compressed air in the slot or a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglass lens cloth) wrapped around a business card and gently inserted inside the slot.  If no success, the Apple store genius bar is the next stop.
