Office 2008 and Mavericks, Will it run in the new OS?

I have an iMac running Mountain Lion and I have the Office 2008 suite.
Will the suite continue running if I upgrade to Mavericks?
I have a Mac Book Pro that when I upgraded to Mountain Lion from the one before a few applications including Parallels were not compatible.  I had a windows license and my other copy of Office 2008 quit working.  Dont want to pay more money for new software to Microsoft to begin with.   I gave up the Windows environment but I cannot give up Office, I can't afford to buy the newer version when what I have works for what I do
I already lost a copy of MS office for Mac

See https://discussions.apple.com/message/23547845#23547845 where the answer is yes and no.  From that thread it appears Office 2008 will run on Mavericks but some people are having trouble with it.
Note, MS will not be supporting Office 2008 on Mavericks.  Mavericks-related updates will be applied to Office 2011.  So if you upgrage to Mavericks try Office 2008 but if there are issues be prepared to shell out $140 for the home/student 2011 version (or more for the version that includes Outlook).
Is there a compelling feature in Maverkicks that would compel you to upgrade?  If not stick with ML to avoid giving MS more money.

I can't say personally since I never used AW, but see if these articles help:

I suggest that you clone your current drive with 10.6.8 to an external drive. If you have any issues after upgrading to Mavericks, you can boot back into 10.6.8.
Both of these applications can be used to create a clone. If you need help creating your clone, let us know.

Final Cut Pro will not update after new os and compressor will not run until the update is done. System shows no updates available

    Sorry for being unclear.
When I am using the update in the App Store App, there will be a list of various applications that have updates to be installed (Final Cut Pro will be in this list).  I will already be logged in with the Apple ID I use for everything (my dev account).  I will be able to update all of the other various applications needing updating except for my Final Cut Pro.  When I click the update button next to the FCP update, it will give me an error saying  "This download is not available for this apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled"
I have not had any applications refunded or cancelled and this has only happened since my update to Yosemite.  FCP was working fine until the upgrade.  Is there anything that can be done to fix this?

    Hey there rmflint,
It sounds like you are wanting to update the Apps that were synced over from your computer to your new iPhone 5s. If you are clicking Updates in the App Store in the bottom right corner, would you mind clarifying what happens when you are trying to update them?

  • Will it run on the new "Pro?"

Apple announced new Macbook Pros today. I'd like to get one and run FCP on it. However, it has a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics and the Apple Tech Specs page says the FCP requires "An AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card (Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors)." And all the available hard drives run at 5400 rpm, while I was under the impression that one needed 7200 rpm for video, especially HD. So my question is, as far as running FCP on the new Macbook Pro, will it or won't it?
    Thanks for any info!

    OK It will.
I have used FCP 6 on the Unibody MacBook with integrated NVIDIA and White with intel integrated X3100 and 950m.
The X3100 and NVIDIA I have used used HD 1920 x 1080 24p and 60i. Worked ok. Render was a bit slow but thats how it was a few years ago even for Professionals with what were Powerful computers at the time but things have improved for those.
I am not sure but don't think that the Graphics has much to do with rendering its more of a Ram HD and processor.
As for Motion well with the 950m Motion 3 quit a lot. The X3100 Motion 3 quit a lot less and worked ok at times but did get slower with adding more and more effects. Now with the NVIDIA it rarely quit and worked a lot better than with the X3100.
So if you will be using Motion a lot and with major things than get a Computer with a dedicated card. If not than the 13 MBP is fine.

  • I want to install Mavericks, but when I try to it says that it will delete my 2004 versions of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. I have years of work that I can't afford to lose access to, and I also can't afford the new MS Office. What should I do?

Do I just have to make do without Mavericks? I don't want to lose access to a decade plus of work, and I can't afford new versions of MS Word, Powerpoint, and Excel.

Have you checked the requirements to upgrade? You must be running at least OS X 10.6.8 on an Intel Mac to even be able to run Mavericks.
    ss http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842
MS Office 2004 was MS's last PowerPC version of Office and will not run under Mavericks.  Support for PowerPC code and the emulation layer, Rosetta were officially completely dropped with the release of OS X 10.7 (Lion).  You would not be able to use your Office 2004 in OS X 10.7, 10.8 or 10.9 or any future OS X - you would have to purchase an updated version of MS Office for Mac (Office 2008 and higher runs fine on OS X 10.9).
Make sure your Mac can even run Mavericks - from your post tagline, it looks like you are running OS X 10.4.11 so are you also still using a PowerPC (G4 or G5) Apple computer?.
<edit> also note in the specs in the link I posted say a minimum of 2GB, but IMO, 4GB is a better true minimum for decent performance with OS X 10.9

Why should Apple fix the problem? Maybe you should consider NOT upgrading if an expensive piece of (obsolete) software you're running won't work with it...

Just adding to what CSound has said.
Pages and Numbers will change Word and Excel documents when they open and close them.
Sometimes the change is subtle and sometimes not. With the latest versions of Pages and Numbers, more likely not.
So don't think you are going to work with MsOffice files without problems. You will always have something not right and in some cases really annoyingly not right. Like having all the text from Pages appear bold in MsWord, or page breaks in the wrong place or some objects and graphics not appearing in one or the other.
If working between different Operating Systems and MsOffice files, I also recommend LibreOffice. It opens and saves nearly all file formats. Unfortunately not .pages or numbers. Yet. The folks at LibreOffice are busy adding to it all the time, and making sure it works in all Operating systems, Mac, Windows and Linux and they are promising iOS as well soon.

  • I am trying to run my registered CS6 Design Standard programs for the first time after install. InDesign runs OK, but Illustrator and Photoshop will only run in trail mode. How do I activate those two?

I can't get my registered versions of CS6 Photoshop and Illustrator to run in full mode. I installed CS6 Design Standard online end of June (an upgrade from CS5.5), on my old MacBook Pro. I didn't run the programs then as I was waiting on arrival of new MacBook Pro. I migrated the programs from my old MacBook to the new, and today tried to run those programs for the first time. InDesign work OK (after an initial hiccup) but Illustrator and Photoshop will only run in trial mode, and won't let me save files. My CS6 Design Standard shows with it's registration in my Adobe Account. All seems in order, but Illustrator and Photoshop won't run in registered mode. Can you please help?

Demons1 in the future please only migrate your documents and settings.
Please use the uninstallers to remove your current installation.  They are located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.  Once the uninstall is complete you will also want to run the CC Cleaner Tool.  You can find more details at Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.
If you need to download a fresh copy of the installation files for Creative Suite 6 you can do so at Download CS6 products.

  • I have an older version of iTunes on my office computer and it will not let me update to the current version without an administrative password. How can I get around this??

I have an older version of iTunes on my office computer and it will not allow me to upgrade to the newer version without an administrative password. How can I get around this???

If you have an iBook G4, (PPC) you can't do much.
But if that is a MacBook (intel) you may be able to
upgrade the OS X, if the hardware is up to it...
Since there were about nine different build models
of MacBook (not powerpc iBook) to identify what
one you have would be the first step to knowing
what OS X and RAM upgrades it could use.
If the computer is not already at OS X 10.6.8,
it can't go online to get or use OS X 10.7.5. So,
when you more accurately describe the 'Book,
    detailed information is available.
When you find the serial number, there is a web
page that can be used to identify by serial no.
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php
That'd be a first step. Or even the Model number
which should be visible on the outer case by hinge.
    Good luck & happy computing!
