Office 2008 DVD won't mount on my iMac 2009, but other DVDs do
I was trying to mount Office 2008 on my late 2009 iMac 2009 so I could share the DVD and install on my new MacBook Pro, which doesn't have a DVD. But it kept on getting ejected. I tried other CDs and DVDs and they all seem to work in my iMac.
Fortunately it did mount on my old late 2006 MacBook Pro, so I was able to share that DVD and do the installation.
But... what might cause it not to mount on the iMac? The Office DVD is obviously ok. And the iMac DVD drive seems to otherwise work.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Doug
Haha. I'm not insulted. In fact I even thought of that and tried it.
The label side was facing me, so I was sure that it was the correct orientation. But just in case I did try reversing it, but it did pop out anyway.
Very strange.

My LaCie mini Hub External won't mount on my iMAC.
It has mounted many times just fine in the past until now. How do I force it to mount? I don't see it in the disk utility at all and the power light is showing on the LaCie. Do you have any idea why this is happening? Please help!
Hi
If the drive is powering on, then it is most likely not an issue with the USB port etc.
You may want to check in System Profiler under USB to see if the drive is there (Apple -> About this Mac -> More Info -> USB)
Also, try resetting the SMC & PRAM as that could help -
10.6.3 disk won't mount on intel iMac
I have an intel 3.06 GHZ Core 2 Duo iMac running 10.5.8. I purchased Snow Leopard family pack 10.6.3. I installed the disk but after about a minute it dismounts and gets ejected. Won't display on desktop. What's up?
Or the disc itself could be damaged, possibly as a result of use in some other Mac with a dirty optical drive or contamination or scratches from handling it between uses. Look carefully at the surface of the disc for scratches or contaminants, which may be faint & hard to see.

Why Can't I Get Microsoft Office 2008 For Mac to Work On My iMac Running 10.8?
I have two Macs; an early 2009 iMac and a late 2009 MacBook. I upgraded both to OS X 10.8 this week. The MacBook runs Microsoft Office apps without any problem. The iMac, however, would give me errors whenever I would try to open any Office app. I removed Office from my iMac and attempted to reinstall. But what I got was an error message that said "The operation coudn't be completed. (com.apple.installer.pagecontroller error -1.) Couldn't open "Office Installer.mpkg"." Why is my MacBook running Office just fine and the iMac having all sorts of trouble? What can I do to get Office reinstalled on the iMac?
Here are the error logs generated by both the Microsoft software, and the one generated by the iMac. I don't know how to interpret it, but perhaps someone can look at it and see the problem right away...

Office 2008 for mac on os x 10.8.4
I have updated to os x 10.8.4 and I am trying to install office 2008 for mac from a flashdrive of my friends, but it won't work. Anyone know what I can do?
Office 2008 should work.
That said, finding support for illegally installing it from a flash drive of your friend's... no ;-) -
Time Capsule won't mount after upgrade to iTunes 9
See my full post in the Time Capsule support section ("Help! Time Capsule won't mount after installing iTunes 9"). My music library is on my Time Capsule, but after installing iTunes 9, it won't mount on my iMac G5. I can use the internet, but the disk won't mount. My Powerbook hasn't been updated yet and the Time Capsule mounts fine.
To make it easier, here's the post:
"My music library is on my 500 Gb Time Capsule. I just installed iTunes 9 on my iMac. It updated my library and synced my iPhone. Now, the TC won't mount. I still have internet connectivity, but I can't access my media or print to my printer connected to the TC. I can use the computer and everything, but if I hover my mouse over the TC disks menu bar icon, I get the spinning beach ball there. If I try to connect using my Network icon in the sidebar, it allows me to log in and get to the screen to select the volume I want to mount, then stops responding. In the Activity Monitor, AFP Client & AirPort Base Station Agent are not responding. I also have a Powerbook G4 w/Leopard (10.5.8) which hasn't been updated to iTunes 9 yet. The Time Capsule mounted fine on it." -
Forgot to eject LaCie HD - won't mount now - can it be fixed?
Through my own stupidity, I forgot to eject my LaCie external HD before I powered off the LaCie (it was late and I was tired). Now it won't mount on my iMac G5. I tried to repair it using Tiger's disk utility but to no avail. I just get an "exit error" message. Does anyone know if repairing the LaCie thru Tiger's disk utility would fix it? I'm afraid to try. Or is the LaCie now a lost cause?
Thanks for any advice.Hi Eugene,
Did the same a while ago. My LaCie was dead.
Using Data Rescue X (from Prosoft I believe) was quite helpfull. You can retrieve data from your 'dead' LaCie and fix the drive once your valuable data is rescued...

Perhaps the 'testdrive' is all you need...
Good luck!

Kernel panic, now external drive won't mount
I had a kernel panic on my trusty old Powerbook G4 867MHz today. It's running 10.5.8.
Everything on the computer seems to be fine after restart, but the WD MyBook 500MB that is connected directly to one of the PowerBook's USB ports now won't mount.
The drive spins, but no show on the desktop.
Disk Utility sees it. Verification and Repair work perfectly and pronounce the drive in perfect working order. I just can't mount it. Restart makes no difference. Neither does switching USB ports.
I have also connected it directly to an iMac running 10.6.2. The iMac's Disk Utility can also see the drive and tell me that it's in fine health, but it, too, can't mount it. In the drive list in the Disk Utility pane, the first line of description of the drive is black like all the rest. The second line — the working name I have given the WD500 — is grayed out.
Three questions:
1. Have I tried everything?
2. Is this situation retrievable?
3. If the worst happens and it cannot be mounted as is, what is the easiest way to get files off the drive so I can erase and reconfigure it?
Thanks in advance.HI Norman,
*" If the worst happens and it cannot be mounted as is, what is the easiest way to get files off the drive so I can erase and reconfigure it?"*
There are no way to retrieve those files without connecting to your Mac(s).
*"The second line — the working name I have given the WD500 — is grayed out."*
It's possible the drive has died. Especially since it won't mount on either Mac.
Go here for help to Resolve Kernel Panics
Also, if the WD MyBook came with any software, try reinstalling it.
And try repairing disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

LaCie external drive won't mount on iMAC
Hi,
My external LaCie external drive won't mount on my iMAC running 10.6.8 but will mount and show up on my PC as working fine, however I am not able to read the information on it as it was formatted for my iMAC. Therefore it leads me to believe this is a software issue.
I have reason to believe someone had changed the permissions and prevented the mounting of this external drive (which belongs to me) so that the contents won't be found on my iMAC.
How to resolve this issue?
Thanks in advance,
CaitCait,
Please try a SMC reset, it may take 2-3 attempts for it to work. Look over the instructions below carefully.
SMC RESET
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM RESET
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys. -
Smartdisk Firelite Won't Mount
My 40GB Smartdisk Firelite won't mount on my iMac. It did at first but now it will not. I see the Smartdisk in the system profiler.
I am using the ac adaptor in case the USB port cannot supply enough power.
Any suggestions?Well I called Apple support because I also tried a thumb drive and had the same problem!
Apple had me shut down my computer, wait 1 minute, unplug the USB cable and then restart the computer. After the computer restarts, plug the cable back in and sure enough the drive mounted.
Well, I ejected the drive and unplugged the cable and tried mounting it again and it worked. THEN the next day I tried again and it wouldn't mount so I did the whole shut down process again. Never mounted!
I do not have this problem with printers, scanners, cameras only storage devices.
So, then I tried the USB port on another computer and sharing the drive as a network device and I can see it just fine.
I also tried a new Airport Extreme Basestation and I could connect to the drive but when I opened it and went to add a new folder, everything disappeared. After panicking for a few seconds, I unplugged it and took it to a PC and everything was there, including the new folder I created.
So for now I guess I will just leave it connected to the PC and access via the network.
That is a poor solution though. I should be able to connect directly to the iMacs USB.

Can't install Snow Leopard on MacBook Pro - DVD won't mount
I am unable to install Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro as the DVD won't mount. This is an early 2008 vintage MacBook Pro, intel core duo...
I'm using a OS X Snow Leopard install DVD (family licensed). This DVD has been used to install 3 other Macs in my house without a problem (about a year ago), but cannot be used to upgrade my MBP. Actually, this disk mounted on the MBP exactly once - inserted with system up, the disk mounted. Upon running the installed (a year ago), the computer restarted but hung in boot. After getting the disk ejected and the computer restarted, the disk would never mount again. I've defered upgrade for a year but at this point need to upgrade my MBP at least to Snow Leopard and possibly Lion.
The problem doesn't seem to be with the DVD, since it continues to mount fine in other computers, and in fact a borrowed Snow Leopard DVD also will not mount on the MBP.
BUT ... the problem also does not seem to be with the optical drive in my computer, as it can read & mount the install/restore disks that came with the computer as well as other CDs and DVD ROMs. Only the Snow Leopard install DVDs fail to mount.
I've also tried mounting the 10.6 install DVD on my Mac Pro desktop, making it available over the network (ethernet) with DVD/CD sharing. I can mount the remote disk from my MBP that way, but when I launch the installer, the application launches (its own menus are displayed, I can quit from menu, for example) but does nothing -- no windows open, nothing.
I've also tried "Remote Install" (again with the DVD made available with the Remote Install MacOS X application on my desktop), but when I boot the MBP with option held down, the remote disk is not available as a startup disk.
Zapping the PRAM did not help.
Am off to the store to get an optical drive cleaning kit and a blank DVD big enough to burn a new disk image, but would appreciate any further ideas at this point....Solution that worked: Copy the Install DVD to a USB flash drive and boot from that.

Up and running with Snow Leopard now and working on the updates. -
HELP!!! i have a mac g 5 and i uploaded Microsoft Office 2008 for my 90 year old mother. Now when she tries to open earlier word docs, they won't open at all :-( what happened? I SEE THE WORD IN THE NAVIGATION BAR BELOW, but when she tries to open a word doc, the navigation bar opens and closes around the Word symbol and nothing happens :-( i'm going crazy :-( PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP AND LET ME KNOW WHAT TO DO?
If you have not already done so, repair permissions and restart your computer. Or boot up from your install DVD and run "Repair Disk" from the Utility menu. When done, restart back to your desktop, repair permissions and restart your computer. Suggest that you post in the Microsoft Office for Mac Forums if the above does not work.

DVDs I've burned on my G5 won't mount on my computer
I'm archiving a lot of digital photography images on DVDs. They burn and verify fine (Memorex 8x) and then when I put them back in the slot later, they will not mount. I've rebooted, restarted, unplugged and then rebooted - a couple of times the DVD showed up and then when I take it out and put in another it won't mount. I can see commercial DVD movies as well as a DVD (Sony 16x) a friend made of data files that does mount. I've just noticed this problem, although it may have been going on for a while.
Does anyone know how to fix this?I'm archiving a lot of digital photography images on
DVDs. They burn and verify fine (Memorex 8x)
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Use a piece of cardboard cut in a circle. OK it won't work but it is free and no less reliable than Memorex. Try a Verbatim DVD +R. I burn hundreds of them, so many I burned out the DVD drive. They are great media.
If they don't work, spend the $40 - $50 and get a new drive, Pioneer 111 or 112 and replace the old one. It is 15 minutes with no tools required and instructions are in your manual. -
DVD+R DL won't mount...on 3 different drives!
Yikes!....Help!...I'm really stuck....
I've read a lot of the posts here regarding DVD's that won't mount and thanks in advance to those who've offered help. Hope you have some suggestions for me. Here's the deal.
About 4 months ago, the disk, a Memorex DVD+R DL, was successfully burned on my G5, using 10.4.11 for burning. And I was able to mount and read it a couple of times. It's a data-only archive disk of old files.
Over the past month, I've acquired a MacPro 2.8G 8-core (10.5.6) and a MacBookPro 2.61G Core Duo (10.4.11). And this disk will not mount on any of these 3 machines...not the MPro, not the MBPro and not the G5 that it was originally burned on! All 3 machines yield the same result...they kick the disk back out with out any messages..."error" or otherwise. There doesn't appear to be any significant scratching or degradation on the disk.
I've searched the net for a "Mac DVD data recovery" program but;(a.) haven't been able to find one....they're all PC and (b.)don't really see how any software app could "deal" with a disk that won't even mount!
I've had a look at the "upgrade the firmware" options, but it would seem strange that the firmware would be the problem on all 3 different drives.
I'm down to contacting a Pro Data Recovery company, but that'll be expensive!
So any and all suggestions will be HUGELY appreciated!
thanks,
b myersThe usual problem with Memorex DVD's of any format was they didn't burn period, so well done getting one to burn, AND a DL no less. I would try an external DVD burner from LaCie (or LG which makes a good USB one), or even a Windows box to see if anything can read it. A PC with EZ CD Creator or Nero could image and burn on a decent brand of DL (e.g. Verbatim) or even a USB drive.
Cheaper alternative is a 2nd non identical brand drive in the mac Pro, as they do take two.
Diskwarrior is not an option for something that isn't seen and thus is unable to be mounted by the filesystem.
