Office 2008 project Gallery

I am using Office 2008. When I choose a project on the gallery, it is not in English.
Any suggestions on how to correct this?
How did this become a problem?
I did have to uninstall office and reinstall it due to not having enough memory when trying to use excel. Could this had a roll in it?

  • Created a "Stack" for Office 2008 & now Cannot access

I created a Stack for "Office for Mac 2008." After it was created, I threw some files (e.g. "Read Me") back into my HD. I did not open my HD, just dragged the files to the icon. After doing so, Entourage will work as will Messenger, but Word, Excel, and Powerpoint will not work. I tried to drag the files back into the Office folder. It now matches Office on my MacBook. It contains Entourage, Excel, Messenger, Powerpoint, Word, and the folder labeled "Office."
The difference is: on my MacBook, where everything works fine, the "Office for Mac 2008" folder is the usual blue folder. On my iMac, where I am having the trouble described above, it is labeled as a folder, but appears as the yellow Office folder.
When I try to open Word, I receive a message that the application quit unexpectedly. If I choose to "report" it to Apple, I receive the following message:

    Wow, thanks for writing back!
I did try to double click on the Word, Excel, and Powerpoint applications from inside the Microsoft Office folder.
I no longer have the folder in the Dock.
Please forgive this long response, but (as I'm sure you've caught by now) I'm not tech savvy!
If I click on the Microsoft Office 2008 folder, and then click on the "Office" folder inside, I will paste everything I see:

  • MS OFFICE 2008

I recently bought MS Office 2008 for my dell and now just bought the MB Pro. Are there other "substitutes" on Mac OSX that would take the place of Office? I think I can order the MAC version and install it on my MB
    Thanks

I don't think there is much of a reason (other than marketing and inertia) for most to use anything other than openoffice/neooffice. I use it for all of my writing, teaching, and collaborative projects. It's free, it works very well, and uses a genuine ISO standard, open format.
The exception is when I am working on a camera-ready book or paper with Word users. In that case, I use MSOffice running on XP under Fusion. I don't know about now, but some years ago, even MS couldn't make a completely compatible product for the Mac.
Open/NeoOffice does a good job opening all of the ".doc" (.ppt, etc.) family of documents, though margins and tables may not be perfectly formatted. Collaborators that use the latest version of Office may use a newer, proprietary "open standards" format developed by MS that might not play as well with others, but most of my colleagues have either avoided that or have responded to requests to stick to .doc
PS: NeoOffice (http://www.neooffice.org) is a nicely integrated Mac version of OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org/) that runs a few revisions behind the leading edge OpenOffice. And, if the equation editor in openOffice is insufficient for your needs (the one in Word probably will be, too), you should be using LaTex.

  • Microsoft Office 2008 not opening after installation...

    Hi there,
Let me run through the steps leading to this error. A couple of months ago I downloaded a trial of Microsoft Office 2008. It eventually expired and I left it on my computer. A few days ago I bought a license from Microsoft for Office 2008 in the attempt to get a free upgrade to Office 2011 before Nov. 30, 2010. After I bought the license, I was emailed a download link for 2008. I uninstalled the version I had already (Not knowing I could just enter the product key). I ran through the installation, though saw a weird "Product Key" window inside the installer before I finished installing. This product key wasn't even close to the one I got when I purchased my license. I finished the installment, and a update to Office 2008 12.2.7 appeared. I accepted and it downloaded. After that I opened Microsoft Word from my dock, and I was asked for my product key. I entered it and I everything seemed fine until Word officially opened. A window appeared telling me Microsoft Word wasn't installed correctly, and I could follow a link explaining on how to reinstall or uninstall office. I opened the link, and it told me about a known issue with Service Pack 2 (SP2) that didn't allow some xml to launch with all office applications. To note, this error happened with all Office applications except for messenger, project templates, and my day. Everything else showed the error message. Back to the xml issue page. I was told to download an update to 12.2.1. Which is very redundant, because I had updated to 12.2.7! I downloaded the update, opened it, it found the disk... an error appeared telling me it couldn't find the proper value or files. Basically it meant, 12.2.1 was pointless to install because I had updated to 12.2.7. I decided to uninstall this version and re-download. I did this many times after, and the same stuff happened. After the 3rd time I re-download Office 2008, I uninstalled and nothing seemed to be uninstalling. The uninstaller found no indication that Office 2008 was on the machine. I opened AppZapper and dealt with the installation that way. So, if anyone with the knowledge of fixing this, please comment and help me. New trimester in school next week, and need a Office badly.
    - Thanks, Tom M.

Just because Office Mac is written by Microsoft, doesn't mean an issue with it falls under the category of "Windows Compatibility" as there's nothing "Windows" about it.
Regardless, Microsoft's forums are the best place to get your answer, as it's their product and they have Microsoft appointed "MVPs" there to assist.

  • Migrating branch office 2008 R2 file servers to 2012 R2 with DFSR complications

We have 1 head office File Server and 4 branch office Servers that replicate back to head office using DFSR.  We would like to move to 2012 R2 to take advantage of the deduplication features etc.  What's the best way to do this?  Do we do
a re-install as per this article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2010/09/10/replacing-dfsr-member-hardware-or-os-part-5-reinstall-and-upgrade.aspx
Leaving data disks untouched and simply attaching them again and then do the same for each branch office?  We cannot afford to replicate the entire data set across the WAN links again.
Anyone had any experience doing this?  Any advice appreciated.

    Hi,
Do you want to migrate the branch office 2008 R2 file servers to new 2012 R2 servers or in-place update the severs?
If you in-place update the servers, you need to do a re-install as per the article mentioned. The entire data will be replicated again.
If you migrate the files servers to new servers, here is our suggestion to migrate DFS-R branch server.
    1. Add a new branch server.
    2. When initial synch is finished (event 4104 for every replicated folder).
    3. And then wait for AD replication.
    4. Then remove the old branch server as usually.
To prevent large network synchronization flow, pre-seed the data with backup program to copy the amount of information from older branch server to the new branch server, this should be lower the replication network flow during initial replication.

  • Is Office 2008 for Mac more compatible with PC's ?

    Hi,
I currently have iWork 09. Sometimes, I save my documents to a .doc format for instance, but when I re-open it, I always have error messages saying that this thing or that thing has been modified to fit the current format etc...
    If I use office 2008, will it be a 100% compatible with PC's ?
    Sincerely.

Yes, Office for Mac should be fully compatible with Office on Windows.
The reason errors are popping up on your iWork documents may be because you are using things that aren't supported in Word (such as image reflections, or different fonts).

  • It seems that my Office 2008 is incompatible with the Yosemite OS that my friend just installed on my iMac. My Word no longer works. Also, I can't access messages on Entourage. What version of Office should I buy?

My friend installed OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on my iMac. Since then, I can barely use my Miocrsoft Word 2008.  The spinning pinwheel, things freezing up, template and formatting trouble, and I can't get any Entourage messages more than a year old, which is a disaster.  I read that Yosemite won't support Word 2008. What Microsoft Update should I buy, and will that fix my problems?  I am desperate. Thank you in advance for your help.  Here is the result I got from EtreCheck. I hope this helps you help me.  BTW, your drop-down menu under Operating System doesn't work

Remove Office 2008 for Mac using Microsoft deinstall procedure. Reinstall Office 2008 for Mac.  If there are updates, apply them. Using Disk Utility, verify/repair permissions on your boot drive.
Does Office for Mac 2008 now work correctly? If not, you may want to repeat the above first sentence, and then update to Office for Mac 2011, and apply the latest (14.4.8) update which has Yosemite fixes.

  • I cannot open any Word document or even Powerpoints or anything related to Office 2008, which has been working fine for the last 2 years. I need help...

I installed an application called "You SendIt" because some audio files were sent to me and I had to access them through it. My Mac is running Windows and OS-X. I bought an version of Office 2008 separately. I tried to uninstall it, to get rid of all my downloads and also to reinstall Office 2008 but nothing works...
Whenever I try to open a Word file, for example, it says:
"The application Microsoft Word quit unexpectedly. Mac OS-X and other applications are not affected. Click relaunch to launch the application again. CLick Report to see more details or send a report to Apple"
Of course I have tried to reset and relaunch... But it does not work. I realized today I have the same problem with Powerpoint.
I have looked at Mac help forums... but no results...
So, if you or your friend had any idea on how to solve this, it would help me A LOT!!
    Thank you in advance.
    Stephanie

    Hi Chris,
Well, I tried to delete the Caches and I threw all the .plist files related to microsoft in the trash -- athough I don't know if this is the way to delete files but I haven't found another yet....
From your other suggestions, it seems to me that you have the impression that I want to stop using Microsoft Office (it was 2007, I made a mistake) though... but this is not the case.
So... tell me if I misunderstood correctly or if I did anything wrong, or if you have anything else to suggest...
    Thanks a lot anyways!

  • Slow Leopard Takes forever to open MS Office 2008

Over the last few weeks/months, I have noticed that it is taking minutes (NOT Seconds) to open MS Office Apps (Excel, Word, Entourage). This has now become very, very annoying and wondering if there is something I can do to fix this.
Or do I wait for Snow Leopard to replace Slow Leopard.
    Please help.

    Greetings,
It should not take minutes, but it will take a few seconds, to load. I have used Office 2004, and 2008 - they both work fine for me, and always have. I'd say that Office 2008 loads up Excel in about 15 seconds, and that''s with email up, and maybe one browser instance. I just did it, and it was 17 seconds to load Excel and be ready to enter data.
Do you have enough memory, and are you loading an excessive number of apps? Look in your account profile and see what you're starting there. Also are you indexing, is Time machine running, or any other activity going on when you are trying to load Office?
Find out what is running a the time you are trying to load Office.
    Cheers,
    M.

  • ? about Office 2008...didn't know where else to get help

Microsoft was absolutely no help with this issue I have been dealing with.
I have Office 2008 and was having difficulty with it freezing up, etc. I ran the autoupdate program from Word and it says that I need to install Autoupdate 2.1.1. I can't tell you how many times I have tried to install it! I have downloaded it from their website and also from Word and it is as if I have never installed it. In the meantime, I can't install any of the regular Office 12.1.xxxx updates. Are the two tied together? How can I fix this? Thanks for your help!!!
Why do I keep going back to MS???

    clemsonbaseball wrote:

    Sadly they rarely are.
Have you considered switching to a real Office Suite like OpenOffice or NeoOffice, either of which are at least 99.99% MSOffice compatible, are free and never have any problems.
I have Office 2008 and was having difficulty with it freezing up, etc.
    Yes, that's MSOffice alright.
Why do I keep going back to MS???
I don't know. As I noted, there are far superior options available.

  • MS Office 2008 Update: fixes some print issues?

I noticed the first update for Office 2008 is out, and one "fix" they list for Word is:
Blank pages are no longer printed when you print to a high resolution printer. This update fixes an issue in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard that causes blank pages to print when you print to a high resolution printer.
I know people have struggled with Samsung and other printers and Word since Leopard released. I do not have one of the affected printers so cannot test it.
    The updater is here:

    Offered for your consideration.

  • MS office 2008 now crashing when we try to print. No changes to computer; same old software. New printer 9 months ago, no trouble printing until last month. Other programs (adobe, mac) print fine. What can I try?

I have an iMac from 2009. It's running OSX 10.6.8 and we've used MS Office 2008 for Mac all along without any trouble.  We replaced our printer 8 or 9 months ago, and we've had no trouble printing from any program until the last several weeks. Now, when we try to print ONLY from word or excel, the print window appears, but then the spinning rainbow comes up, followed by a Microsoft crash message: "Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I tried to trick it into making a PDF, but the crash comes too fast. The only change to our entire Mac ecosystem is the following: We also have a Macbook Pro that has the 2nd allowed installation of the same MS Office 2008 for Mac. Due to liquid damage 6 weeks ago, that computer was replaced and all of the data and applications were moved from the dead one to the new one. Could this possibly be because microsoft detects a "third" computer "using" its software? I'm guessing no because I've seen several threads about problems similar to mine, and none mention licensing issues. In terms of troubleshooting, I've shut down, unplugged, restarted and tried newly created docs as well as old ones. Same results, no matter what.

  • Office 2008 for Mac: Any advice on where to get it cheaper for a student?

I am about to go into my Master's Degree at Dallas Theological Seminary and I need to get Office 2008 for Mac. The Apple store recommended me get it at my school but my school's bookstore does not have it and journeyed.com doesn't support DTS. Does anyone know how or where I can get this program for less than $100 with a student discount? I really need to know.

    Remember... Google is your friend.

Also, be aware that this is a forum for troubleshooting compatibility issues between Mac OS and Windows, and that Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products are the best place to post Office related questions. Good luck...

  • Office 2008 very slow in iBook

    Hi All,
I recently installed Microsoft Office 2008 in my iBook, but the applications run pretty slow (only Office), specially PowerPoint. I had Office 2004 and it worked fine. Any suggestions on how to improve the speed of those applications? Getting a new RAM memory perhaps? I installed a 1 GB Ram memory one year ago.
The details of my Mac are:
    Machine Model: PowerBook6,5
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1)
    CPU Speed: 1.33 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 1.25 GB
    Bus Speed: 133 MHz
    Thanks in advance!
    lbm2

Office 2008 is slow even on the newer machines. More memory will help, but when you say slow, do you mean slow at just working, or slow to load? If slow to load, do a search in all of the forums. This has been reported elsewhere, and it is due to the fonts on the system. By doing maintenance on the system fonts (described in the other threads), it will speed up the loading. If it's slow at just working, memory will help, but not too much.

  • How can I install Office 2008 on my new MacBook Pro Retina?

I have a license key and a cd to install from, but no slot in my MacBook to insert the CD into. I heard I can download Office 2008 from the Microsoft website, can anyone supply me with a link to the download? Not the30-day trial, the full version. Can anyone tell me if Office 2008 will work on the Retina display because I've read reviews about how it didn't in the past and should now (thanks to updates).

Office 2008 will work with Mountain Lion, but it isn't retina compatible and would probably be too much strain on the eyes to work with. Purchase Office 2011 or Pages. LibreOffice is free and may be retina compatible, but I personally have never used it.
If you are willing to install 2008 and give it a try then just download the trial and then you can upgrade the trial to the full version using the license key you have.
