Office 2008 upgrade install issues

Just installed the upgrade of Office 2008. I could not get the programs to work even though it loaded successfully. I finally called MS and they had me create a new identity on my mac and install the upgrade there. It works. My issue is how to merge the identities or merge the data from the old identity to the new identity? This is for iTunes, iPhoto, Entourage...everything.

*"My issue is how to merge the identities or merge the data from the old identity to the new identity?"*
This isn't an issue with Office and/or Windows compatibility but rather a question better suited for the OS X discussions since you'll be wanting migrate a user account.
Your best bet would be to post your question in the Account and Login section of the OS X forums:

  • Problems with Office 2008 after installing OS X Mavericks

I just installed OS X Mavericks on my Macbook Pro. Now I can't adjust the size (view) of all the office (2008) program screens. Can anybody help me to fix this? For example, the view of Word is very small now and I just simply want to adjust the size. This is the only from I have.
    Thanks in advance!

You have tried to adjust the size using the \\\\ tab at the bottom right?
    You might try looking/posting here.

Mine works fine, so it isn't Word 2008. You might try re-installing Office.

  • Macbook late 2008, re-installing issue

    Hi,
    I have a Late 2008 MacBook, 13 inch aluminum running OS X 10.9.5.
I would like to wipe the disk clean and re-install the software before I pass it on. I have tried inserting the disk that came with it but it will not run. I'm guessing this is because the OS X software has been updated and the disks are now obsolete. Can someone confirm this is the case and how I can get around this?
I have tried holding down the C key and the T key on separate occasions with the disk inserted and restarting.
I get to the language choice and click English, but then a little window appears saying MAC OS X cannot be installed on this computer.
    Thanks in advance.

You need to start the MacBook holding the C key so you boot to the DVD with the original Mac OS X installer.  Then after going through the questions and answers part, you need to go to Utilities and select Disk Utility.  Select the internal hard drive, usually named Macintosh HD.
After highlighting the HD, select either Erase or Partition from the buttons top center of the main window pane.
After erasing the hard drive, now you can select Install Mac OS X.

  • Major Logic Studio 9 Upgrade install issues

I tried to install Logic Studio 9 upgrade today and there are a lot of problems. For one, Compressor 3.5 did not install, leaving me with 3.0.5. Quartermaster also did not update, leaving me with 3.0.5 of that as well. Soundtrack is at version 3.0.1.
The Logic Studio 9 Installer just keeps Soundtrack and Compressor grayed out, so I can't do anything about that. I followed the instructions on the Knowledge Base article about the iLife 11 conflict, but that didn't make any difference.
I also cannot log into the updates page on Apple's web site here (http://www.apple.com/logicstudio/download/). I have tried my Logic Studio 8 serial number and the serial number from my Logic Studio 9 Upgrade, and it just keeps telling me that they are invalid numbers. I have tried them with and without the dashes. The LS9 Upgrade installer accepted my serial numbers no problem, and I sent the registration to Apple. I'm totally baffled as to why the web page is denying me access.
I have spent HOURS on just trying to get this software installed properly, and I have never seen such a mess. I wish I could just uninstall everything and start over but they don't even include an uninstaller. So at this point I have no clue how to get access to the support page since it's denying my serial numbers and it's not letting me update Compressor or Quartermaster (but everything else seems to have updated). It also keeps EX24 synth grayed out.
I know this is a mess of a post but I've been trying to get this going for hours and hours and am exhausted and frustrated. Thanks for any advice.

Ok, for some reason the Apple Support site is accepting my serial number okay, but it seems what's available as far as downloads is out of date compared to the software update tab.
It seems my biggest problem remaining is just that I have Qmaster 3.0.5 and Compressor 3.0.5 which did not get updated to 3.5 (and then upped to 3.5.3 each with the ProApp Update 2010-02).
I have never had Final Cut, any version, installed so it can't be that, and the iLife 11 "forget pkg" solution from the Knowledge Base didn't work. So what gives? How can I get Compressor and Quartermaster installed?

  • Trouble Installing Microsoft Office 2008 10.8

Getting a headache trying to find a clear answer on this -- if I can't install Office Entourage PowerPoint Excel on 10.8.3 in 2013, is it possible?
I just did an Erase and clean fresh install of Mountain Lion 10.8.3 (late 2011 MacBook Pro).
I have Microsoft Office Mac 2008 Upgrade (not worried about the Upgrade issue), however
    My installer is version 12.0
To get to current 12.3.6 — I will need to run three updates manually (the Auto Update feature didn't work the  last time I installed under 10.7 so I expect to do the same under 10.8):
    12.1
    12.2
    12.3
I read there may be a problem running the three service pack updates manually because they may not work in the Apple Store Auto Update Software Update routines....
Has anyone done this or know of a clear source to confirm what to expect, how to install and update Office 2008?
    PLEASE ADVISE

Figured out how to install Microsoft Office 2008 Upgrade 12.0 onto a fresh start-from-scratch clean 10.8x Mountain Lion install -- it is possible with no problems and here are instructions how to do it:
    Manually download the following updaters:
    Service Pack 1, 12.1.0: Office2008-1210UpdateEN.dmg
    Service Pack 2, 12.2.0: Office2008-1220UpdateEN.dmg
Service Pack 3, 12.3.6 (or latest)
Run the Office 2008 installer from the install disk.
When the Upgrade prompts you for an eligible version, insert your full retail install disk, and point the updater to that disk's root folder — note my full retail Office 98 disk didn't work, but my Office 2004 full retail disk did the trick.
Run each Service Pack as needed.
After all are updates are manually ran, then run the Office software update.
I can confirm Office 2008 installed on Mountain Lion and appears to be working as expected on my Late 2011 MacBook Pro, 10.8.3.
Lanny& Barney-15E THANK YOU FOR THE CORRECT ANSWERS!

  • 10.6 -- All Office 2008 apps hang at splash screen. FontCache Tool runaway

Did an upgrade of 10.5 to 10.6. Nearly everything works fine. Can't launch Office 2008. All apps hang at their splash screen; usually at Optimizing Font Menu Performance.
Once an app is opened, in Activity viewer you'll find a process called FontCache Tool using >90% of the CPU (on my Core Duo MBP at least, YMMV). I suppose it's saying a lot about 10.6 that the computer is completely usable with that runaway process. Even after forcing the office app(s) to quit, Font Cache Tool stays running until it's killed manually.
I have yet to find out if FontCache Tool is an Apple or MS process. I think it's microsoft.
    This happens under multiple users.
    This happens after reinstalling Office.
This was an Office 2008 upgrade from Office 2004.
After reinstall, and installing Rosetta, office 2004 will run, but office 2008 will not.
    Office 2008 is 12.2.1.
I am running FontAgent Pro for font management, and so font book sees certain activated fonts as duplicates. (Validate fonts shows duplicate warnings but no errors). FontAgent Pro 4.0.3 is listed as Snow Leopard compatible. So is Office 2008.
I have yet to do a clean SL install, which I'm guessing will fix it, but I'm curious if there is a sub-sledgehammer approach, or if I am the only person with this issue.
Other probably irrelevant facts include that the computer is bound to both Active Directory and OS X OpenDirectory servers. Open Directory is running on Leopard 10.5 Server. It does have some managed preferences, including those for Office (e.g. to set default to .doc rather than .docx) but the situation persists even after removing those managed preferences.
Normally really specific problems are easy to isolate and solve, but I'm at a loss.
    Any help appreciated
    keppie

Hey i think i figured it out.
Had the same prob. 10.6 12.2.1 entourage hanging.
Renamed FCT, instantly prompted that a font was corrupt. Removed the corrupt Font: KufiStandardGK.ttf << this just happened to be my one corrupt font.
A little troubleshooting i did leading up to this, I read your post and my situation was the same. I use Linotype X to manage fonts. I disabled all but the minimum fonts (i moved them into a folder font_trouble in the same folder)
I also deleted every office pref/plist setting i thought relevant to startup which triggered the microsoft setup assistant (watched via the console app) and it ran through its check and then immediately the fontcachetool started and went awol on cpu time. Once i killed it--during the starting up of word and entourage... timing may be unrelated but i did them at nearly the same time.
Ps. Your post was extremely well written and I apologize for my stream of consciousness, less than stelllar response... hope this helps if not feel free to ping me for more details on what I did...
Good Luck.. All my office apps are running normally now.

  • Microsoft Office 2008 Invalid Product Key (PID)

Hey all, i have just updated my Office for Mac Software which said that the update was "critical".
After re-starting my Mac and clicking in MS Word the message reads: "Office for Mac has determined that your product key is invalid". My product key is Genuine as i am one of three registered users after purchasing the Student and Teacher version. I cannot open any Office files and am furious to be honest that this can happen!
I have followed the following help on Mactopia but still cannot find these lines for putting into Trash: Can you please help me on this issue?
If your copy of Office 2008 was installed with an invalid product key, or if you mistakenly used the same product key to install Office 2008 on more than one computer, you must remove the invalid product key and enter a valid product key to use Office 2008.
In the Finder, select *_/Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Office/OfficePID.plist_*, and then on the File menu, click Move to Trash.
Select *_/Users/username/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/Microsoft Office 2008 settings.plist*_, and then on the File menu, click Move to Trash.
On the Apple menu, click Restart.
After your computer restarts, open any Office 2008 application.
    The Office Setup Assistant opens.
Accept the software license agreement, and then enter your valid product key.
The product key is located on the back of the Office 2008 for Mac DVD sleeve or on the back of the Install Guide.
Thank you in advance for your help and time!!!!!
    Dave

  • About To Install Office 2008 On Leopard 10.5.2; Any Issues Or Tips?

Hello-I'm getting ready to install Office 2008 on my 24" Intel iMac, 2.8 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 1 500 GB drive, and FW800 external backup drive. (Not using Time Machine)
Just wondering if others have done this with no problems; anything I should watch out for?
I am getting the standard upgrade version; my previous version is Office X (about 7 years old); I currently have the Word only portion of that installed on this iMac.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • Can't install XCelsius Engade 2008 (upgrade from Pro 4.5) with Office XP

    Dear Support,
I have purchased XCelsius Engade 2008, upgrade from Pro 4.5.
Our corporate standard is still MS Office XP on Windows XP and it won't be updated in a near future.
I can not install the product since it tells me that Office suit should be "pre-installed" first. And it is actually installed already.
I have tested the trial version before - and it was fine. It is written on the CD box that system requirements includes Office XP but it does not work. Please help ASAP!!!
    And just for the information:
Trial version build no: BuildVersion=12.1.0.247 (seems to work)
Version on CD which I have purchased: BuildVersion=12.0.0.121 (refuses to install)
    Thanks and regards,
    Andrey

    Hi Andrey,
you don't need to uninstall Xcelsius 4.5 - it's a separate product and you can install it back. I have both Xcelsius 4.5 and Xcelsius 2008 on the same machine. I am not sure why it does not recognize the Office on your machine, may be you need to upgrade your Office to a later version, I hope somebody else will have more information. May be this link will be helpful

  • "There is a problem with the Office database" - Microsoft Office 2008 issue

It was all going so well.
I upgraded a MacBook to SL over the weekend. Everything was working well until yesterday (Wednesday) when, on opening Word I got the above message. The Database Utility reports 'an error occurred while trying to verify your database'
Other issues are that Entourage will not open, with a report that "The Entourage Temp folder could not be found".
I have reinstalled SL and Office and patched Office to 12.2.0. Interestingly the 12.2.1 installer cannot find a version of Office to update.
I've followed the various threads on font issues, but nothing seems to be working. As a temporary fix, I will be re-installing 10.5 but I'd like to know that Office 2008 is stable before going through the upgrade again.

I've had a chance to play around with a few things, mostly by following the advice at http://blog.entourage.mvps.org/2009/09/hottopics_using_office_for_mac_with_snowleopard.html
After creating a new user account I noticed that Office worked fine until the next time I logged out/in or rebooted. My MacBook is bound to a 10.5 server so I wondered if something was being reset by the server.
To try this out, I unbound the MacBook, set up a new account, and tested it by multiple restarts and log out/in. This configuration works fine so I guess it's something to do with being bound to an OD. Just one more thing to try if you're having problems

  • Leopard Upgrade problem for Microsoft Office 2008???

    Hi there,
i have a question regarding upgrading my MacBook. I've done some searching
on this forum but couldn't find what i was looking for.
I bought a MacBook in September 2007 which runs Tiger and i would
    like to upgrade to Leopard.
I have installed a version of Office 2008 and i only have the 1 licence.
Will the Leopard installation overwrite this licence or will be
be detected and preserved to run on leopard????? I don't want to
lose the use of that licence
    Many thanks
    Chris

    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
First, unless MS has changed their policy, you are allowed two installs of MSOffice - notebook and desktop. At least in the PC world.
Second, even if you do have to reenter the license, since the hardware is unchanged, I do not believe anything will happen.
For example, I am running Vista on this machine via bootcamp. I installed it when I was running Tiger and did not have to reregister it. True, that's not quite the same as your case, but I strongly suspect that you will not even be required to reregister the product, since the license is a user license.
If you do have any issues, I have found MS to be very cooperative with their technical phone assistance, so I would add not to be concerned.
Just be sure you either use the default install or Archive and Install so you do not have to reinstall Office.

  • How can I install Office 2008 on my new MacBook Pro Retina?

I have a license key and a cd to install from, but no slot in my MacBook to insert the CD into. I heard I can download Office 2008 from the Microsoft website, can anyone supply me with a link to the download? Not the30-day trial, the full version. Can anyone tell me if Office 2008 will work on the Retina display because I've read reviews about how it didn't in the past and should now (thanks to updates).

Office 2008 will work with Mountain Lion, but it isn't retina compatible and would probably be too much strain on the eyes to work with. Purchase Office 2011 or Pages. LibreOffice is free and may be retina compatible, but I personally have never used it.
If you are willing to install 2008 and give it a try then just download the trial and then you can upgrade the trial to the full version using the license key you have.

  • Can I do a "clean install" of Microsoft Office 2008 on Lion 10.7.4?

I've got a macbook pro (early 2011) and want to install Microsoft Office. I'd rather pay less and just get Office 2008 instead of 2011, but I want to make sure that I'll be able to install it without any problems. I haven't installed any versions of microsoft office.

    Kappy wrote:
Well, my old Office 2008 has a PPC-only installer. And, if you have read a lot of these similarly related questions you'll also see others who have had an installation issue because their installer requires Rosetta.
Now, my understanding from way back when is that some Office 2008 discs did indeed come with a PPC-only installer. Later on it was replaced with a UB installer. This came originally from MS as I seem to remember.
I'm geniunely surprised by that, I have ancient copies of 2008 (we used to install a lot of them) and they are all Universal, even Microsoft's technotes make no mention of a PPC installer (and these are the notes specific to Lion compatibility) so thanks for the info, now I will have to go through our collection of Office 2008 media and find one.
Copies of Office 2008 on sale now are unlikely to contain the PPC installer I would guess, and can be exchanged if they do.
But the OP should install 2011 (unless connecting to a 2003 Exchange Server which is not supported by Office 2011)
