Office 2008 very slow in iBook
Hi All,
I recently installed Microsoft Office 2008 in my iBook, but the applications run pretty slow (only Office), specially PowerPoint. I had Office 2004 and it worked fine. Any suggestions on how to improve the speed of those applications? Getting a new RAM memory perhaps? I installed a 1 GB Ram memory one year ago.
The details of my Mac are:
Machine Model: PowerBook6,5
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1)
CPU Speed: 1.33 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 1.25 GB
Bus Speed: 133 MHz
Thanks in advance!

Office 2008 is slow even on the newer machines. More memory will help, but when you say slow, do you mean slow at just working, or slow to load? If slow to load, do a search in all of the forums. This has been reported elsewhere, and it is due to the fonts on the system. By doing maintenance on the system fonts (described in the other threads), it will speed up the loading. If it's slow at just working, memory will help, but not too much.

Hi, I have a G4 Power PC Mac mini. I have had many school projects involving the use of Microsoft Powerpoint. I tried to use Appleworks 6, which came with my computer for powerpoint, but I do not have any idea of how to use it. So, I did a little bit of searching, and found Neo Office program. It looks exactly like MS office. However, when I choose new presentation, teh computer and software react very slow, minimizing windows, and even typing, produces the spinning, multi-colored fan cursor, and everything goes very very slow. I really do not want to buy MS office for the mac, because I have already spent a lot of money on my mac mini system, and its external wireless adapter, and its keyboard/mouse. What can I do to make it run faster, or is there another program that will work better on my mac for powerpoint presentations. Powerpoint 97 on my old powermac 7500/100 runs faster than powerpoint on openoffice on my mac mini. Please help on my question, as I am unsure what to do, and am considering just building a PC, since that would be cheaper, more fun, more educational, and by far, perform better on powerpoint. Thanks
I won't discourage you from undertaking building a PC as an educational project. But from a strictly dollars-and-sense proposition, maxing out the RAM in your Mini would be cheaper.
Your Mini has disappointing performance because it has the minimum amount of RAM. Even buying from a first-tier vendor like http://www.crucial.com you could upgrade it for:
1GB $123.24
CT431640 DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 128Meg x 64
or
512MB $56.69
CT431639 DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 64Meg x 64
And you might beat those prices buy looking around for memory with the same specs from places like newegg.com
With adequate RAM your mini will really fly -- and if you have 60 Gig free on your HD, it sounds like you bought it with a bigger HD. So your mini could be a real keeper.
At the moment though, your mini is like a car with a high performance engine, but a blocked air intake. The 256 Meg RAM is what is limiting performance. -
Microsoft Office 2008 - very frustrating
Well, I've recently attained my copy of Microsoft Office 2008. I have created a few custom styles for Microsoft Word, seeing as how I format all of my notes the same way, I figured it would be nice...seeing as how when I try to do it manually I can't do what I want.
i have gotten the right style, but I've tried literally for hours trying to delete the others, but they won't go away. I can delete them, and they'll be gone for that specific document, but I'll open a new one and there they are once again. They're in the palette and when I go to the Format tab in the menu, then down to styles they are there, no matter how many times I delete them from both locations.
I'm at a total loss. Something that should be so simple is made so ***** complicated. I've never been so lost, or so frustrated while using a computer. This forum focuses on compatibility issues between Mac OS and Windows, and since Office is not an Apple product, you should probably post your question on MIcrosoft's own forums for their Office:Mac products, as they'd be geared more toward your issue and there's a chance a similar question has already been asked and answered:

A very slow machine (ibook G4)
How do I deal with my extremely slow ibook of late. I am unable to do anything without the beach ball spinning for at least 5 minutes. My hard drive is almost full (that may help) and if this is the reason how do i retrieve space without getting rid of most things that I really need. I am not attempting to take out the memory! bws
Hi bar1wars!
"My hard drive is almost full..."
As Kryten posted, that is probably the cause of the problem.
Insufficient available space, can cause performance issues, system corruption, and possible loss of data.
Depending on Mac system usage habits, it is a general recommendation, to keep 10% to as much as 20%, of the Total capacity, available at all times.
Review the suggestions, in the documents that I have linked to below.
Authored by Dr Smoke:
Problems From Insufficient RAM And Free Hard Disk Space
Freeing Space On Your Mac OS X Startup Disk
Have you ever run any routine Maintenance procedures, as suggested in the articles linked to below?
Mac OS X 10.3/10.4: System Maintenance, authored by Gulliver
Maintaining Mac OS X, authored by Dr Smoke
Is the Mac shutdown overnight, or does it run 24/7?
If you turn the Mac off nightly, the Background Maintenance Tasks, are never run.
These can also be run, using a Third-Party utility, or manually using Terminal, to run the CRON Commands.
I use MacJanitor, when necessary.
INSTRUCTIONS TO RUN CRON MANUAL COMMANDS
Quit all applications/programs.
Navigate to HD > Applications > Utilities.
Double click on Terminal, to open.
At the prompt, type:
sudo periodic daily
Press Return.
Enter your Admin password when prompted, then press Return.
This will execute the daily script that is sheduled to run every night.
When completed, repeat this procedure, but change the command to:
sudo periodic weekly
This one rebuilds a database or two, and usually takes somewhat longer to complete. It is scheduled to run once a week.
Repeat again, with command:
sudo periodic monthly
Or they can all be run in one pass, which is preferable, with this command:
sudo periodic daily weekly monthly
When the tasks complete, and return to the prompt, you may quit Terminal.
Restart the Mac, and run Repair Permissions.
TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
2.Click First Aid.
3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never "Verify". Just run "Repair".)
Rerun RP until no errors are reported messages reported.
When "Repair Permissions" is complete. Quit "Disk Utility".

Windows 7 + Office 2007 & 2010 VERY slow saving files to on 2008 R2 files shares
OK I have litterally tried everthing in every forum there is to resolve this. It is only happening on our Win 7 workstations that are running Office 2007 or 2010. Our file shares are on a 2008 R2 server. Opening and saving files on the shares using
Office is very slow. I have tried updates and server and workstations are 100% up to date. The server is only running as a file share server. Nothing else on it. We have completely set up new PC's to test with clean Win 7 installs and nothing else except Office.
Nothing else on the network is slow at all. I have tried all the hotfixes in the world that could relate to this from many hours of research into possible causes. I have done the EnableShellDataCaching fix, the SMB 2 disable fix, the windows search/indexer
fix, the pdfmaker fix, the lookup wizard add-in fix, the go to the newest firmware on the cisco switch fix, update workstation nic driver fix, the Trusted Locations in Excel fix, and about a dozen other fixes. NOTHING WORKS! This has brought our Win 7
and Office 2007/2010 users to a halt in their ability to do their jobs. Our company is suffering badly. And did I mention that our IT dept is getting a lot of heat and criticism about it. FYI we are running an IBM E5450 with dual multi-thread
multi-core(8) 3 Mhz Intel Xeon processors with 2008 R2 64-bit, 12 GB ram, and the server is using litterally no resources. Network connected is Gigabit. This has to be a Microsoft issue with 2008/Win 7/Office 2007&2010. This has become a nightmare for
out IT dept and has consumed weeks of our time when we need to be working on other projects. Can anyone solve this. Microsoft: Please release a REAL fix for this that we can run on the server or push via GPO to the workstations.Hi,
Take a look at this and see if it helps:

Office 2010 components, such as Word 2010?
At this time, I suggest trying to start Excel in safe mode. Then, open the Excel file or create a new Excel file, and save the file to the network again.
Start the Excel program in safe mode
1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then point to Microsoft Office.
2. Press and hold the CTRL key, and then click the Microsoft Excel.
If the problem does not occur in the safe mode, this issue might be related to some third-party add-ins in the Excel program, we can try to disable them. Normally, you could do the following to disable the conflict add-ins in your Excel program:
Disable add-ins
Click File menu, click Options > Add-in, click Go button in the Manage: Com-in Add.
Check if there are any add-ins, clear the checkbox to disable them.
Close the Office program and restart it.
Add one check back each time to the list of Add-In, restart the Office program, and repeat the above procedure. Once the issue reappears again, we can determine which add-in causes this problem and then disable it.
Please take your time to try the suggestions and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If anything is unclear or if there is anything I can do for you, please feel free to let me know.
====
Is the performance also slow when you trying to save the Excel file to other network path?
At this time, we can also try to test this issue in the clean boot mode.
Test in Clean boot Mode
===============
Let’s disable all startup items and third party services when booting. This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Please perform the following steps:
1. Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.
Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window.
2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".
Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK.
Note: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the startup programs from loading at startup. This should not affect the system or other programs. We may still manually run these programs later.
What’s the result now?
How to return from the Clean Boot state
After the troubleshooting, we can return from the clean boot state:
1. Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.
Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window.
2. On the "General" tab, click "Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services".
3. Click OK. Click Restart when you are prompted to restart your computer.

Office 2008 with G4 MacMini (1GB RAM)
Hi! Does anybody see this as a problem? I have heard that Office 2008 will slow the whole system down to a crawl. Anyone with this experience? I am currently using Office 2004 and it works fine, but should I upgrade or not???
I suggest you wait. I have heard that on PPC machines Office 2008 is slower than 2004. Plus, you don't have much RAM.
I am very happy with Office 2008. If you did upgrade, you would get better support for PDF and other images, support for the newer file formats, and better toolbars. Those new features plus Intel compatibility make it a good upgrade for me. -
I was getting support for my Office 2008 for Mac, and the support tech said my OS was very slow. I have latest update for Snow10.6.7. Question; How can I speed up my Macbook?
Hi
In the first instance, I'd use Onyx and run through its sequence of maintenance and tune up tools:
Verify, Maintenance, Cleaning.
I'd also reset the SMC and PRAM (Google them)
If that doesn't help then I'd look at System Preferences.. > Accounts > Login Items tab (not Login Options). Check what processes get started at login and decide which ones you don't want.
After that I'd use Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor to see if any processes are using a lot of computer power or if anything else nasty might be happening.
If none of this helped then my final step would be to reinstall OS X.

Slow Leopard Takes forever to open MS Office 2008
Over the last few weeks/months, I have noticed that it is taking minutes (NOT Seconds) to open MS Office Apps (Excel, Word, Entourage). This has now become very, very annoying and wondering if there is something I can do to fix this.
Or do I wait for Snow Leopard to replace Slow Leopard.
Please help.Greetings,
It should not take minutes, but it will take a few seconds, to load. I have used Office 2004, and 2008 - they both work fine for me, and always have. I'd say that Office 2008 loads up Excel in about 15 seconds, and that''s with email up, and maybe one browser instance. I just did it, and it was 17 seconds to load Excel and be ready to enter data.
Do you have enough memory, and are you loading an excessive number of apps? Look in your account profile and see what you're starting there. Also are you indexing, is Time machine running, or any other activity going on when you are trying to load Office?
Find out what is running a the time you are trying to load Office.
Cheers,

Very slow responce when working with Office file on DFS-Share
Very slow responce when working with Office file on DFS-Share
We have implemented the following configuration
Domain level Windows 2000. Two member servers with Windows Server 2008 R2, sharing the same DFS namespace with, at the moment, one folder target called Home.
Users complaining that the access to different MS Office files is very slow. Even creating a new MS Word document using right click context menu takes up to 4 minutes to open. Saving, for example, one singe Excel sheet takes also few minutes.
Tested with both, MS Office 2007 and MS Office 2010. Makes no difference. When using Office 2010 you can see the message like contacting:
\\DomainName\Root\Home\UserName. Other files like TXT, JPG or PDF are not affected.
What makes the thing really weird is the fact, that the behavior described above can absolutely change after client machine being rebooted, suddenly everything becomes very fast and this condition can revert back again just after the next
reboot.
Considerations until now:
1. This has nothing to do with the file size. Even tiny files are affected.
2. AD Sites are configured correctly and the client workstations see themselves in the correct sites.
3. This is not an Office issue. If I map my folder target not as DFS, but directly as shared network drive
\\ServerName\Root\Home\UserName , everything functions as expected
What makes me suspicious: when using f.e. TCPView to monitor connections, I can see, that each time I make any operation on an office file, there will be a connection established to one of the domain controllers, sometimes to remote ones,
located in other countries. But on the other side, even if the connection is established to the nearest DC, operations are still very very slow!
Just forget to say. All clients are Windows 7
Thanks to all who respond.Dear all,
sorry for the delayed reply. The problem has been solved now and since September 19th. everything is functioning as expected.
What was done:
Deleted replication targets excepting the initial ones
Carefully recreated folder targets
Deleted and recreated replication groups
Disabled SNP features on both namespace servers
Created EnableTCPA registry entry
Checked that the following Updates are installed
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2688074
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2647452
Concering Office File validation KB2553065 - This Update was already declined on our WSUS server

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008) suddenly very slow and laggy
This seems to be a popular question so I apologize, but I know there can be a number of issues that cause a computer to run slow, so I want to post my computer's specifics and hopefully someone can diagnose the issue for me without my having to bring it into the store. Thank you in advance.
Specifically my MacBook runs slow when trying to open or close Microsoft Word, iTunes, or access a folder with pictures and short videos in it. Frequently I get they are not responding, or have to close out of everything else in order to get the spinning wheel to go away and sometimes that doesn't even help.
I would just like the computer to be able perform simple commands in a timely manner like it used to. If there is any way I can get back to this I would be eterrrrnally grateful!
Problem description:
MacBook responds very slow when trying to open applications. Slow, lags, rainbow spinning wheel all the time, even just to open a folder with pictures.

IBooks Author VERY slow on new, late 2013 iMac
I have an iBook that is about 100mb that I am writing. The book is tediously slow to work on. Moving widgets around takes on inordinate amount of time and sometimes blows up the formatting of the book. On my old Mac Pro Late 2008, I never experienced this.
I am running Mavericks 10.9.1 on a late 2013 iMac 3.5GHz Core i7, 16gb RAM, 500GB SSD.
Has anyone else have this problem or know a solution?
ThanksI'm in the same problem.
iBooks is became unusable.
I have published numerous ibooks, but an old update of iBooks (already with Mountain Lion, don'tv remember when), is became very very slow, with the same Mac.
Now I have update to Mavericks (now 10.9.1) hoping to solve the problem, in vain.
I have a MacBook pro 17" later 2011, 2,5 Ghz, Intel core i7, 16gb ram and i work only with iBooks Author and OpenOffice.
Who can help me?
Thanks -
IMac 2008 running very slow after Mavericks upgrade
Hi everyone,
I upgraded to Mavericks not long after it was released and my machine has been struggling since. It's very slow for normal everyday computing - and I actually had to stop using certain programs, like Chrome. Chrome would get stuck just trying to load google - and I would get stuck with a spinning beach ball for upwards of 5 minutes. I've switched to Safari and that's helped - but when switching applications, the system still really struggles. It makes multi-tasking very challening.
I downloaded EtreCheck, could anyone help me out to interpret the results? Is there anything I can do to speed things up?
Thanks!

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Spotify is very slow at the office
Hi,Since a week Spotify is being very slow only at the office. I tested with the Mac Application and with the Web Player. Even the communities are very slow. Actually everything with the Spotify domain is slow. If I connect my computer over the 3G of my phone then everything is back to normal. Is it possible that my boss is slowing down Spotify with the firewall? If so, is there any way I can avoid this? Will connect Spotify through a proxy help? Similar services such as Deezer (sorry!) work fine but I'm a Spotify user since 2008 and I don't want to give it up just yet. I already asked my boss and his answer was a question: Did Spotify change anything in the API?
The best way is to try VPNs as it bypasses some network clogs that might have caused slowdowns on your Spotify. The Company that provides the internet in your office might be different from the one providing you internet on your phone. If you use VPN and Spotify gets faster, it means something is just slowing you down. You may want to read this article as it might be a good example http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/07/18/want_to_beat_verizons_slow_netflix_get_a_vpn/ I just mentioned an example, I know nothing about Verizon and Netflix as I'm not from the US. Sorry for the bad english. Hope this helps!

Microsoft Office 2008 - Excel really slow!
Two days ago I installed Snow Leopard, everything now works again (there were a few programs that were not Snow Leopard compatible), but now I have one major problem... Excel from Microsoft Office 2008 is really slow. Besides being slow opening the biggest problems I now have are:
1) when I put data in one field and press enter, it needs 5 seconds to process it
2) when I want to insert a field, it takes 5 seconds to process
3) scrolling takes a few seconds to respond and then does not go smoothly
This was not the case before.... what can I do? can I downgrade from Snow Leopard back to 10.5.8? Should I wait for a new update by Microsoft? Anybody else also have these problems?
And please, do not ask me to change to iWorks or to OpenOffice, I just need to know how to solve this problem, thank you in advance. Some more info: I have now done the re-install. I removed all office components/preference files/caches/fonts etc, re-installed, then did all the Office updates. It hasn't solved the problem, with Excel still being very sluggish.
However, I have found that I only have the problem on my iMac (22.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM). Excel 2008 runs well under 10.6 on my old MacBook (2GHz Intel Core Duo, 2GB RAM), with spreadsheets in normal or page layout view.
So I guess the problem is either hardware specific (video driver perhaps?) or there is something else installed on my iMac which is causing a conflict.

My MAC runs very slow. Rainbow wheel every time i try to go somewhere. Im a complete MAC novice. Only really use it for iTunes and email. the odd document here and there. The odd spreadsheet. Was brought up on a PC. I would imagine my system is in mess. I think i downloaded that Mackeeper which i have just discovered was not a good idea. I found a thread about EtreCheck and it suggested i posted the report of my machine which i have done.I only have 2GB of space. Not sure how much i have left. My wife keeps putting photos on here like they are going out of fashion. Bought the machine in 2008 because everybody said you have a MAC. I've never really got to grips with it but at least it worked. Now it does not run very well at all. That spinning wheel is driving me mad. HELP please, never ever used a forum light this either so please go gentle on me. Cheers Paul

680 KB Page-outs1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.
