Office 2008 with G4 MacMini (1GB RAM)

Hi! Does anybody see this as a problem? I have heard that Office 2008 will slow the whole system down to a crawl. Anyone with this experience? I am currently using Office 2004 and it works fine, but should I upgrade or not???

I suggest you wait. I have heard that on PPC machines Office 2008 is slower than 2004. Plus, you don't have much RAM.
I am very happy with Office 2008. If you did upgrade, you would get better support for PDF and other images, support for the newer file formats, and better toolbars. Those new features plus Intel compatibility make it a good upgrade for me.

Please Help iMac 20" refuses to boot up with anymore than 1gb ram? It was fine 4 days ago and had been working with a 1gb stick in one slot and a 2gb stick, which had replaced the orignal 1gb stick that I got it with, in the other and it had shown 3gb of ram and was working just fine with that since November? It went to sleep briefly 4 days ago while I was waiting on a customer and I came back to try to wake it up and it never would forcing me to hard boot it. When I did that it would only go to a black screen with a solid white light on the power indicator. Over and over again and same thing. I read and tried every suggestion I could possibly find in this and a few other mac forums to no avail.
I finally after reading about RAM issues etc. I decided to power off and take out the ram sticks and try them one at a time in each slot. So I took out the 2gb stick and did the SMC reset and it would boot up and work just fine with the 1 gb of ram. So then I went through the same process with the 2gb stick and it would not boot up only go to a black screen with white solid light again (NOT flashing). So then I tried the other original 1gb I had replaced with the 2gb and it worked just find like the other 1gb. So then I tried just 1gb stick in the other ram slot (back facing one) and with just the 1gb strip it booted up and worked fine. Tried it with the other 1gb stick and once again that one too worked just fine. So I determined it wasn't the slot itself I thought? I then tried the 2gb in the back slot and it would not boot only go to the black screen white solid light deal like before. So I thought well ok it's obviously the 2gb ram must have somehow went bad (even though I have only had it since November) and I thought well I will just use the (2) 1gb sticks in each slot and then that will at least give me 2gb because only 1gb really ***** LOL. So I proceeded to go through the same shut down process installed both sticks (I always push them to I feel them click and my fingers have a nice indention on them) reset the SMC and turned the power one and.... It would only go to the black screen with white solid light on power indicator???? I went through the same above process at least 3 times and again today a few times and I can't figure it out and I tried to search and search and I couldn't find anything like what I am experiencing.....What happened? Please help this slow Imac is killing me. It will work with 1gb ram only nothing more? Here are the specifics of my Imac.
It is a 20" Late 2006 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 ATI Radeon X1600 256 MB graphics card and Ram with now only 1gb (did have 3gb) and I am running OSX Lion 10.7.5
When I go to system report and go under memory it shows this:

The Memtest just completed and came back like this? It only test the single 1gb chip because anything more in this computer it won't go past the black screen with solid white power light.

Office 2008 with 10.5.2 Issues

I want to install Office 2008 but I hear there are all sorts of issues with it; font problems, security permissions etc.
Will Office 2008 mess up my perfectly stable and speedy 10.5.2 system / fonts / system files? Is there a clean way of uninstalling office 2008 if I need to?
Currently I use Office 2007 under Parallels but it is too heavy-weight to boot up windows every time I want to use Office.
Your advice will be well received.

I'm using Office 2008 with Leopard 10.5.2 and I don't have any issues that I know of. I use Excel and Word nearly all day. I haven't really heard of any issues, until now. I use iWork as well and haven't seen any font issues there either.
I run Parallels and I infected my Mac with Vista Enterprise and Office 2007 - it all works as advertised, for me, the Mac and the Windoze part.

Satellite Pro L100 crashes when loaded with 2 x 1GB Ram

Hi,
Satellite Pro L100 - came with 512MB ram - Too slow - expanded using 2 x 1GB ram from crucial technology, speed 555MHz
When both 1GB installed, laptop crashes on the XP boot screen - then loops, crashes, loops, crashes etc...
Tried alternating the slots and using ram independantly - No change - so ruled out faulty ram
Tried shippped memory with 1 x expanded 1GB ram - All OK.
Tried every orientation conceivable - just crashes when expanded ram is loaded to its specificed max - 2GB.
Upgraded BIOS to 3.2 - no change
Does anyone here have any other suggestions? I fear my last resort is to dig deep and get more ram from a diff OEM, prefer not to hence asking politely for help

Have you ran Memtest?
Download the bootable Memtest CD ISO from www.memtest.org and run it for a few passes.

Microsoft Office 2008 with Snow Leopard

I was having horrendous startup times for Word 2008 v12.2.3 on my MacBook Pro running 10.6.2. From some other hints, I thought that the culprit might be font related, so I fired up the Font Book application. I chose the "All Fonts" collection, selected all of the fonts shown, and then ran "Validate Fonts" in the File menu. I had a slew of bad fonts and duplicates, many of them from MS. I trashed the bad ones, and removed the duplicates so that all fonts were in /Library/Fonts. Note that I found an MS folder in /Library/Fonts with many duplicates; I trashed the folder after making sure all the fonts were found in /Library/Fonts.
Now my MS Word startup is down from 30 seconds or so to 1 second or less! Woohoo!!

Can I reinstall microsoft office 2008 with the same cd key

I want to reformat my mackbook back to factory settings. However, will I be able to re-use the same license for Microsoft office that I first used?

So when you intitially install, how is the CD key tied to that installation? In other words, whats to stop me from using that CD key to install on every other computer? (besides the ethical - illegal nature). Dont get me wrong. This is a legal CD key that I purchased. I am afraid that it wont work when I reformat my mac.

U550 - Windows 7 - 0x000000A5 BSOD with 1Gb RAM

A friend of mine asked me to install Windows 7 on her IdeaPad U550. So I did. Everything worked at first. But after installing drivers and some software, I started getting BSODs on widows startup:
The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. 0x000000A5 (0x00001000, 0x00000000, 0x55AA55AA, 0xFFFF0091)
I tried reinstalling windows 7, but windows setup fails with the same BSOD message.
Some further experimentation has brought me to the following conclusions:
1) the laptop works fine with a 1Gb memory module installed.
2) the laptop doesn't work with more then 1Gb RAM installed (U550's shipped with one 1Gb and one 2Gb modules installed)
3) the problem isn't in the installed OS (DVD booted windows setup also fails)
4) both RAM moduls are working properly (tested them on my other laptop)
5) both RAM slots are working properly (windows starts with 1Gb RAM module in either one of them)
6) there're no BIOS updates for Lenovo IdeaPad U550.
There IS however some kind of problem with the battery. There's a notification in systray recommending to replace it. Taking the battery out or placing it back in doesn't seem to make any difference in regard to BSODs.
So, my best theory at the time is this: the battery (and/or it's absence) somehow causes the ACPI-related errors. Now, that sounds kind of stupid to me, and I can't just ask my friend to buy a new battery if I'm not even sure it's gonna fix the problem. That's why I need your help, guys. Any help is appreciated.

Well I deleted the VM and re-created it, and reloaded Windows and all my software, works fine now.

Office 2008 Mass Deployment

I may be posting this in the wrong area and I will apologize in advance. I work in a school district that has recently decided to upgrade ever single machine to Office 2008 and we have a deadline to have it done by the beginning of the next school year. Sitting there with and install disc and going to every machine and installing 2008 and running the updates is not going to allow it to be done in the allotted time. I have been googling and found a howto over at Mactopia that helped me create an install package with the updates incorporated already and it works awesome. Now the actual problem and question. The install package that I made does not delete Office 2004 nor does it put the icons in the Dock for Office 2008. Which is going to be required for the teachers and students. I need to figure out how to make the package that will allow me to delete Office 2004, install Office 2008 with all updates, and put the Office 2008 icons in the Dock. Then I would be able to push this package out over ARD this summer when no one is in the building and be able to make the deadline. Thanks in advance for any advice you can contribute

What software are you using to make the packages? If Packagemaker you should consider posting your question in the Developer forums, as it's more of a developer tool:

Personally, for the uninstall of 2004, I'd just send a separate Unix command before pushing the package out to delete the Office 2004 folder.

How do I remove the microsoft office 2008 automator workflows?

Hey, first off all sorry if this isn't quite in the right place but there was a lot of forums to choose from!
Basically I have installed Microsoft Office 2008 with the automator workflows and now decide that I don't require them and would like to remove them but I am unsure how to go about this?
I know about the automator folder in system with the workflows in but don't want to delete any as I am afraid I will delete the wrong ones!

the scripts icon has nothing to do with office or office automator actions.
if you don't want it there just command+drag it off the sidebar.
The reason that it annoys me is because it creates a delay when you quit an office program
no, it doesn't. it makes no difference for office whether the scripts icon is there or not. this icon is there if you want to access some apple scripts. its mere presence has zero impact on speed of anything.

Leopard, Office 2008-more RAM???

I use an iMac G5 (no iSight) with 1Gb of RAM. With Leopard and the new Office 2008, everything runs significantly slower. Will another Gb of RAM help speed it up? Do I need to buy 2 1Gb DIMMs?

You can buy 2 separate sticks, or you can buy one 1GB stick, but 2 GB is the maximum amount of memory for your machine. Things should run faster, but you can also try deleting data that you don't need any more, clearing out caches, emptying the trash and perhaps looking at apps you never use.

It seems that my Office 2008 is incompatible with the Yosemite OS that my friend just installed on my iMac. My Word no longer works. Also, I can't access messages on Entourage. What version of Office should I buy?

My friend installed OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on my iMac. Since then, I can barely use my Miocrsoft Word 2008. The spinning pinwheel, things freezing up, template and formatting trouble, and I can't get any Entourage messages more than a year old, which is a disaster. Remove Office 2008 for Mac using Microsoft deinstall procedure. Reinstall Office 2008 for Mac. If there are updates, apply them. Using Disk Utility, verify/repair permissions on your boot drive.
Does Office for Mac 2008 now work correctly? If not, you may want to repeat the above first sentence, and then update to Office for Mac 2011, and apply the latest (14.4.8) update which has Yosemite fixes.

Error 0x00022838 with MS Office 2008

I have an error with MS Office 2008. Anytime I try to run any MS Office program it starts to open then gives me the Encountered error and needs to shut down message. The error code is 0x00022838. I have a Macbook 4.1. My OS is 10.5.8 and SU states its up to date. I have 1GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM. I have an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.1 GHz processor. Any help would be appreciated to get these running again.

Yes, Office for Mac should be fully compatible with Office on Windows.
The reason errors are popping up on your iWork documents may be because you are using things that aren't supported in Word (such as image reflections, or different fonts).

Also the Eye-one Display 2 colorimeter to calibrate the monitor will not run on Lion, so that will be an expensive upgrade to an i1DisplayPro. Is the upgrade important enough to offset the expense? I have an Epson R2000 printer. Will there be problems with the drivers if I upgrade to Lion? It would be great to hear from other mac users who are also photographers and who print their own photos.
