Office 2010 Filter Packs 64bit or 32bit?

So I will be installing Exchange Server 2010 on Server 2012 but understand as a prerequisite I need to install the Office 2010 filter pack.
As my end users will be running Office 2010 32 bit, do I install the 32 bit filter on the Exchange server (to match my users) or 64 bit to match the OS?
Apologies if I have posted in the wrong place.

Hi,
As far as I know, there is no way to install the 32-bit Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Packs on a 64-bit Windows, please try installing the 64-bit version.
It's better to install on a test machine first to avoid the risk.

  • Should I have installed Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Pack 64 bit with Ex 2013 SP1?

I have installed Exchange 2013 SP1 on a 2012R2 server, and all went well (I am at early stages of migration).
Following the pre-reqs listed here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb691354%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx#WS2012
I installed Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API 4.0, Core Runtime 64-bit only.
Since then I have seen other articles suggesting that I install:
Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Pack 64 bit
Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Pack SP1 64 bit
Given I didn't notice any errors in the install, do I need to install those filter packs or is that outdated advice?
    regards

Thanks for taking the time to post Ed
I did a bit more research and it appears that there is more than one view on this.
    E.G. this blog
Why Exchange 2013 doesn’t need the Microsoft Office Filter Pack says:
"Exchange 2013 swaps MSSearch for the Search Foundation, a component shared with SharePoint 2013. The Search Foundation has no need of the Office Filter Pack because it includes its own filters. Unfortunately, until SP1 came along,
the Exchange 2013 Setup program overlooked this fact and stated that the Office Filter Pack was a prerequisite. Setup would install if the Office Filter Pack was missing, but who’s going to ignore a warning issued by Setup. In any case, that warning seems
    to have finally been suppressed."
    This blog
Planning and migrating a small organization from Exchange 2007 to 2013 (Part 10) has:
"After choosing the relevant setting needed to begin installation, the Exchange 2013 setup program will now perform readiness checks. Assuming these complete successfully, we'll expect to see just one warning.
This warning relates to the lack of the Office 2010 Filter Packs, which are not required for installation, and are only required to create Transport Rules for OneNote or Publisher files"
    And this one
Exchange Server 2013 FAQ: Is the Office Filter Pack Required?
"The Exchange 2013 pre-requisites page on
TechNet, at the time of this writing, does include the Office Filter Packs as a step in the preparation of a server for Exchange 2013. What it doesn’t make clear is that they are not required.
The new Exchange Search already has support for indexing/searching Office file types, as well as a series of other file types including some third party formats such as PDF. You can see a full list
    here.
So should you install the Office Filter Pack? If you want to stop seeing that warning message, then yes. If you want to take the approach of only installing required software on your servers, then no. Consider also that installing it means potentially having
to update it later on if there is a bug fix or a security issue."
The final para above is the approach that I have now taken, but if someone can give me a good reason to install office 2010 filter packs on Ex 2013 sp1 I'll revise my view

  • Should I install Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Packs?

    Hi,
I have SharePoint Server 2010 installed. I am on version 14.0.7015.1000 (SP2) but within my SharePoint Server Search crawl I receive the following error multiple times on valid file types and character strings: "the filtering process could not be initialized
when trying to process this item. Verify that the file extension is a known type and the item is not corrupt". From searching, it appears that I may have to install the Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Packs, or is this already included in SP2?
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Packs is included in prerequisiteinstaller folder when you install SharePoint 2010 (not SP2).

For the above error message, please go to Search service crawl log and check which file extension(e.g. xls, xlsx) has this error, and check if this file is allowed to crawl, if it is related to MicrosoftOffice 2010 Filter Packs, index resetting,
etc. please see more troubleshooting steps per the fllowing article.

  • Office 2010 Service Pack 2 (SP2) installation failing with error code 0x80070643 and B56

I've been trying to install Office 2010 service pack 2 (32 bit) multiple ways without success. I've tried getting it directly from Microsoft Update, downloading the full file from Microsoft and installing it, using WSUS to deploy to clients, and I've tried
using LANDesk to deploy it. All methods are failing.
I need a solution that doesn't involve touching each PC manually, as I have a feeling this error is going to occur on several hundred PC's in my organization. So far on a group of 15-20 test PC's, every one has failed. We have not had problems with any other
    Microsoft Updates before this one.
When I try Microsoft Update, I receive the following error:
Code B56  Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

I too have been unable to install the Office 2010 SP2 update on either a Win7 or a Win 8 system.  Researching the errors I got led me to discover the following:
    1. Many people are encountering errors during the SP2 installation. Some were able to get around it by downloading the self-installing package and bypassing Windows Update.  Some were able to get it installed by first doing a Repair on Office 210 itself
first, and then installing SP2.  But many others have not been able to install it at all.
    2. Apparently a common and insurmountable issue that prevents SP2 from installing is the lack of the MSOCACHE directory.  This directory normally gets installed on a machine during the original install of Office, and contains all the install files used
during the installation.  Apparently the idea behind creating MSOCACHE was to allow subsequent updates without requiring the user to have the original source CD available.
The problem is that if MSOCACHE is deleted, which is an option many people choose, you can then no longer do any updates to Office.
I am one of those people.
I found a posting that described a way to recreate MSOCACHE from the source CD.  I did that, and the SP2 update actually got farther - it started to install stuff but then stopped and asked for a particular file.  I found the file on the CD and
pointed the installer to it, but it said the file was not found and quit.  So my install still failed.
The last response I got at the Microsoft Answers site was to wait until SP2 is debugged.  It's not clear to me this will ever happen, but we'll see.

  • Detection Office 2010 Service Pack 2 - Slipstreamed Install and WSUS rebuild

    Hi,
at a customer of us the WSUS infrastructure had some problems and after some investigation the WSUS infrastructure was built up from scratch. We do have one WSUS Server which syncs with Microsoft and two downstream servers. After rebuild the WSUS infrastructure
    we do see one issue:
Many clients were deployed with Office 2010 SP2 slipstreamed. Now the WSUS tells us for the Office 2010 Service Pack 2 Update (KB2687455) that it is missing on the clients.
Is this a normal behaviour or is there an issue with the WSUS detection of the Service Pack? How can I see which updates a client reports to WSUS as installed while connecting with the new WSUS Server? I've tried to figure that out within the WindowsUpdateLog.log
    file but without success.
    Any ideas are very appreciated.

but wouldn't that cause SP2 to install again (or even downloaded to the client?)
    Maybe.
    Probably.
If the "SP2 slipstream" was incomplete, or additional Office modules were added post-image, then the service pack needs to be reapplied. The key here is understanding how Office 2010 SP2 is different from other Office service packs in history.

  • OfficeJet 4315 no longer works after Win 7 and Office 2010 service packs applied

I've used OfficeJet 4315 on a Toshiba Satellite with WinXP (SP3) and Office 2003 and been delighted with the printer.  I recently migrated to a brand-new Acer Aspire with Win 7 and Office 2010 (home & student ed.)  At first, the 4315 worked well--in fact, all I had to do was plug in the USB connection and the in-OS drivers installed automatically.  However, something has now caused the printer too be essentially useless!  I think it happened after I applied SP1 to Win 7 and/or the service pack to Office 2010.  I can no longer print Word files (.doc or .docx), Excel spread sheets (.xls or .xlsx), PDFs, Web pages, or even e-mails,  The only things I can print are .txt files or equivalent and .jpg files or equivalent.  I've tried deleting and reinstalling the printer (including deleting the drivers and reloading them from Windows Update).  I don't believe I should have to replace a perfectly good printer just to support Windows 7 and Office 2010.  I NEED HELP URGENTLY with this problem!  If anyone has any knowledge or ideas, I'd be forever in your debt.  (HP, I'd even pay to get the help I need on this one!!)  TIA.

    Hi,
Based on your description, my understanding is that the PDF files cannot be checked out to local drafts folder after Office 2013 is installed.
Did this issue occur with Office files?
I recommend to check if the Office files can be checked out to local drafts folder with Office 2013.
And it is recommended to use Office 2010 with SharePoint 2010 for best practice.
    Thanks,

  • Mail Merge using HTML Office 2010 Service Pack 2 doesn't send

I have a user who sends out mailings several times a week using a Microsoft Word Mailmerge.
He recently had his physical PC upgraded and we gave him a computer with a fresh install of the same programs he had before.
When the mail merge is accessed everything seems to work fine (selecting the excel list of addresses to send to, specifying the recipient list, and going to send the mail merge we select the e-mail address column as the To list and the format as HTML and
    select Send)
Once the send button is pressed it shows the working mouse pointer icon temporarily and then nothing.
I check outlook to see if the E-mails sent and there are none listed.
This same process works on another user's computer just fine and will send out the e-mails.
I have attempted the below troubleshooting steps:
I verified that all updates/service packs are installed.
I verified that the AV is listed as "Valid".
I disabled the AV during a test send and it still did not work.
I verified all the settings on both workstations to see if there are any differences and I was unable to find any.
    I rebuilt the Outlook Profile.
I uninstalled and re-installed MS Outlook.
I checked to ensure Outlook was the default e-mail program in Default Programs.
I checked to see  that Word is the default HTML program in internet option settings.
I checked to see if there was a 64 bit registry key in place that could cause problems and there has never been any 64 bit MS Office applications installed and so I did not find any.
Plain Text mailmerge works with one caveat.
I get an Outlook pop-up stating "A program is tryign to access e-mail address information stored in outlook. If this is unexpected, click Deny and verify your antivirus software is up-to-date. For more information about e-mail safety and how you might
be able to avoid getting this warning click Help" (this pop-up happens for each message that is being sent so a 50 person mailmerge asks 50 times)
And it shows a box where I can select Allow access for a specific time frame (10 minutes or less) and then 3 buttins "Allow" "Deny" and "Help"
Clicking help bring me to MS Office help menu that didn't explain anything close to the problem I was having and did not "HELP"
This is beginning to frustrate the user and I am running out of ideas to fix the problem. My next step was going to be attempt to re-install the OS at this point.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Whyitsme84

The Mail Merge was created using a different computer/user.
I have not attempted to create another mail merge from his account; I will try this and get back.
I have compared the options/settings from that and another user as I stated above.
Which registry keys would I import? I don't want to go importing keys and have it break something else.
They are not any add-ins on either PC that are different from each other; and as I stated above I have tried starting it in safe mode.
Anti-Virus is up to date; Also I even disabled the Anti-Virus to see if that changed anything, and it did not.
I will try creating a new mail-merge to see if somehow it creates a settings somewhere that will allow it.

  • Export to Microsoft Excel opens empty - IE11, Office 2010, Win 7

    Hi,
I am using IE11, Office 2010 and Win7 64bit. When I open IE, navigate to a webpage and click "Export to Microsoft Excel" from the context menu of IE, Excel opens and the "New Web Query" dialog has an empty address (http:///). The content
    is
    "This page can`t be displayed"
Does anyone know what might be the cause of this problem and how can I fix it?
    Best Regards,

    Hi,
Please include a link to any webpage you are having issues with your questions so we can test the page....:
Any webpage ... it is not webpage specific rather an environmental problem.
    javascript:alert(navigator.platform); :
    Message from webpage
    Win32
    OK
Open Excel, switch to DATA, choose From Web , then try to import the website for test if it had same problem.:
    It works unsurprisingly ...
When I open IE I can see in the Windows Task Manager there are 2 processes - a 64bit (~8MB RAM) and a 32bit one (~70 MB RAM)
    My Office 2010 is a 32bit.
If I open it directly a 32bit excel process is stared.
If I open it via the "Export to Microsoft Excel" menu two 32bit excel processes are started. I believe one is for the New Web Query and another one for the Excel itself ..

  • End tag error in Office 2010 professional plus

I have my research paper got corrupted some how. When I try to open it, I get the following error:
"The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag.
    Location: Part: /word/document.xml, Line 2, Column: 5119889"
I am using Office 2010 Professional Plus.
I tried to install office service pack 1, but I get this error: "The expected version of the product is not found on the system"
I need to restore this document as the deadline of paper submission is approach fast. I would really appreciate any kind of help.

Seems that you've received an "end tag" error when you open a DOCX file in Word 2010. After installing Office 2010 SP1 as
KB2528942 suggested but get the error "The expected version of the product is not found on the system".
Office 2013 and Office 2010 Service Pack 1 resolves this issue for new files. It will also prevent the problem from recurring with any files that were recovered with the Fix it solution in this
    article.
Have you tried to install the hotfix in
    KB2528942 "fix for me" section?
If you are familiar with editing XML, you can try to fix the problem yourself by correcting the mismatched oMath tags in the document. See the following example:
    Incorrect tags:
    <mc:AlternateContent>
    <mc:Choice Requires=”wps”>
    <m:oMath>
    </mc:AlternateContent>
    </m:oMath>
    Correct tags:
    <m:oMath>
    <mc:AlternateContent>
     <mc:Choice Requires=”wps”>
    </mc:AlternateContent>
    </m:oMath>
Note: unzip the source file by unzip tool and you will also have to use an application such as Notepad to edit the XML.
    Feel free to post back.

In Outlook options > Search > Indexing Options > the service is shown as "Indexing is not Running" and the list of indexed folders is empty. Everything else is grayed
out except "Advance Tab" which only has one button available called "Rebuild", everything else is grayed out.
I am aware this question was asked a few years back but the linked articles referenced are no longer working.
Though I seem to be having a similar problem and any assistance and new suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
Please check if you can search mailbox in OWA. If OWA works well, the issue is related Outlook.
If it is the same issue in OWA, in Exchange 2013, you can use the following command to check the content index state of the mailbox database where this user is.
    Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus | fl name, contentindex*
If the content index status is Failed, please try to reseed the search catalog. After that, please rebuild the index in Outlook to check the result.
If you are using Office 365, I recommend you ask this question in Office 365 forum which is staffed by more experts specializing in this kind of this problem. You might get a better answer there.

  • Smartview for Office 11.1.2 and Office 2010 (64 bit)

    Hi to all,
does anyone have some experiences if Smart View for Office works with Office 2010 in an 64bit environment? I know this is not yet officially supported, but what could be possible issues?
    Regards
    Uli

The short answer is no it's not supported -- I put in an enhancement request for this support probably 6 months ago.
Bob, very informative article-- nice to have that kind of materials when you need it.
Uli, you should probably post this thread in the SmartView forum where some of the Oracle SmartView development team read; the issue is a 64-bit add-in is a separate code-line from a 32-bit add-in; this means going forward when/if Oracle begins supporting 64-bit Office they will have a code base for 32-bit and one for 64-bit which is additional over-head across the board.

  • Unable to update Office 2010 to 14.0.7128.5000 with Sp2

Attempting to streamline updates for Office 365 rollout and when trying to update Office 2010 to SP2 14.0.7128.5000. no matter what hotfix I install or even through windows updates, I cannot get the version to read 14.0.7128.5000. I believe the version
    showing is 14.0.7015.1000.

    Hi Brian,
It looks like 14.0.7015.1000 is the final version of Office 2010 Service Pack 2 (SP2). For the specific version number of 14.0.7128.5000, I can only find it on this KB article -  July
    8, 2014 update for Office 2010 (KB2837581).
Only one .dll file is affected by this update. I have tested it that it will not change the version number of your Office 2010 Service Pack 2.

  • Lenovo A310 Idea Centre - Microsoft Office 2010 Starter Edition

Having searched many sites and the internet generally to find an answer to my problem the main answer is to go to the manufacturer of the PC as they installed Microsoft Office Starter 2010 programme.  The problem is as follows:
everytime  I finish a Word document in Office 2010 Starter and print off and go to click of/out by Xing top right corner I get a light blue screen which hangs.  By a series of clicking the X and the blue screen I get the message 'WinwordC.exe not working'.  It eventually clears but originally the page cleared instantly. I've tried the 'repair' via the control panel way without success, and re-installed the programme. What is the cause and how does one resolve the problem? Can anybody help please.

    Hello Fshrbcpp,
It seem to be some compatibility issue, kindly update the Ms Office 2010 service pack.

After you install the service pack restart the system and check the issue.

  • Office 2010 deployment package incomplete

I have been charged with the deployment of Office 2010 Pro Plus 32 bit.
Using the OCT package installs well and authenticates with KMS plus the installation of SP2.  The challange is the other 40 some odd patches don't install even though they are in the "updates" folder.  I have tested installation
of SP2 from 2 directions, both in the updates folder and as an .exe command line install and it works well and silently both formats.  My understanding is SP2 needs the reboot prior to installation of the other patches.
Looking for way to install those last patches to make a complete install in one swoop.
Working in a VM environment and can roll back and retest in short order.

The challange is the other 40 some odd patches don't install even though they are in the "updates" folder.
What kind of patches are they? Are those patches applicable to Office 2010 SP2? Please note that Office 2010 Service Pack 2 already includes lots of public updates that
    were released previous.
For troubleshooting purpose, please do below test:
Remove SP2 files from the Update folder, only include the patches and see if they got installed this time.
After installing Service Pack 2, please try to install those patches manually and see if they can be installed successfully.
Please have a try and feel free to post back with any findings.
