Hi Guys,For some reason 1 of our customers has one specific share (and folder in this share) that get all kind of big issues with the older file version from Microsoft word Microsoft Excel.
They cannot open, copy, send through mail as attachment etc. those kind of documents. First we thought it perhaps had something to do with the robocopy we did a month ago, but that seems to be to long ago (we can recover from the backup 1 day ago and those files works fine).We have already checked if word can open the files (and not get blocked withtin the potion of word) and that is default settings.We also checked recovering files back with and without the permissions from the file. Also this works both when we recover it.They now work on a vm with server 2012 R2 (hypervisor (hyper-v) is also server 2012 r2). They work with DFS, dedup and FSRM...

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

MS Office 2013 cannot open on user account but admin account can open ms office 2013

Before I have to use office 2010 proplus it not have problem for open ms office on user account after i have to upgrad to ms office 2013 version(15.0.4551.1512) i got problem cannot open ms office 2013 on user account but can open ms office 2013 on admin
account. I try to grant user account permision full control on C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15 but not working. Micorsoft support pro plus has remote to my pc and told me to change registry by add permision full control user account on hkey_current-User\software
then restart but not work. I have to uninstall and reinstall MS Office 2013 or repair it not working to open user account. MS Support told me to try download Office 2013 trial version to install it working to open on user account but Trail version is
15.0.4420.1017 and try to open mail on outlook it slow reponse. now this case still cannot solve. I don't know who can fix this or not. Please advices Thank you.

I checked event log not have any error for this. I click word , excell and all ms office not have any pop. I have to add user account permission full control by list below . It not working.
- C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office
- C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15
I had to post this on Microsoft Community . After MS Support ask my pc join network or not i told my pc join network . He told me to post this forum.
I give you more information to try something.
I have to created new account for local computer and add new account to users group after that i try to log on local pc by use new account and try to open ms office excel , word etc.. It can open.
I have to log on to domain by account user on domain it cannot open MS office but i have to add this account user to administrators groups. It can open ms office. If i change that account to users group and try to open ms office . It cannot open and
not have pop up and error.

Did you receive any error message when you try to open the documents?
We recommend you start your Internet Explorer in compatibality mode, and follow the advice in the article below:

Cannot open a file anymore

Good morning
I have a strange problem, first time it has ever occured to me. I have a big file that cannot be opened anymore. The shortcut to the file doesn't open the file either.
The documents inside the file can be opened from the spotlight selection but it obliges me to remember all the name of all the secondary files and individual documents in it.
All the other files in My Documents work perfectly.
I thought I could change the name of the file but am afraid to do so and loose the content. For the month being I can't have access to my Timemachine because my external disk is in another home. But I'd like to solve the problem before using Time machine (I would loose all my changes in those files.
Working with OSX Lion and all software updated.
Does anybody have a hint of what could be done?

I find a solution and post it here in case it should help somebody else.
Il used the "copy this file" action and it created another identical file with "copy" added. And I opened this one perfectly. Then I just delete the original which could not open.
I don't understand why but it works so why bother?

Cannot open older files (OS9) in iMac

My older Mac is a G3 blue and white with OS9. The monitor broke. I have now a iMac since a while.
My ancient files are in the iMac 2007 but I cannot open the psd or illustrator files.
I know there was Rosetta, is it still available ?

Your iMac thankfully is compatible with Rosetta, but not with Classic. What that means is entirely new versions of your Illustrator and PSD applications. http://www.roaringapps.com/ may list versions of those applications that are compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 which you can install on the Blue and White G3. But you will need to update the firmware on the G3, get a new PRAM battery if it hasn't been updated in the last 4 years, and probably once you have imported the data into a new compatible version with Mac OS X, get a Parallel ATA Firewire case from http://www.macsales.com/ to take your internal drive of the Blue and White G3, and connect it to your iMac. Most of the time this works, however some of the time we get blank PDF files (<10KB), and sometimes we get filled PDF files that we cannot open in Adobe Reader X 10.1.4 - we get the "file is damaged and could not be repaired" error. However, I can view this "damaged" pdf just fine in the Chrome built-in PDF viewer, and I can open it using Foxit Reader and Nitro Reader. And if I open it in one of those programs and then save it under a new name, I can open the newly saved file in Adobe Reader. So why is it that everything except Adobe Reader can open this file?

Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):

In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

Opening files in Word and Excel - blank or nothing at all

Hi all,
I am a newbie to Mac (going on my third week) and am having problems with MS Office documents and spreadsheets. Most of the time opening a .doc from Finder will result in a "cloud" but Word does not open. The same with Excel. Sometimes Word opens in a blank document, but mostly nothing at all. Sometimes it works out just fine. I haven't been able to figure it out.
If I open the same document from Word (File-Open), then it always works just fine. The same happens with email documents, the file downloads but nothing else happens.
Any ideas where the problem might be?

Until you resolve this issue, and I would point out that MS Office has never really played well with Leopard, you might consider using OpenOffice and/or NeoOffice, both of which are 99.99% MS Office compatible, they have no Leopard issues and they are both free.
Once I began using them I never looked back at MS Office, not even on my PCs.

Problem solve!
I just re-install the flashplayer plugin using the firefox popup ( the button on top )
and it works!

Word and Excel file and folder icons missing in File Open dialog box

Running office 365 on Windows 7 Pro: In Word and Excel, when opening and browsing for files in the file Open dialog box, all file and folder icons are missing. This problem does not occur within Windows Explorer.

Can you open Word/Excel files normally?
Go to File>Advanced>Disable hardware graphics acceleration
Start Office in safe mode to troubleshoot the issue:

I have a VC++ project which adds tool bar to arobat reader. But when i build this project using VS 2010 it's giving a error "IntelliSense: cannot open source file "Environ.h" and some other header files.

Did you try to open teh fle by double-clicking its icon? If the file was made with an older version of Office, you may get that message. Try opeing PP and, from its "File" menu, see if you can open the ppt. I've foundthat often gets around that message and then yo ucan save the file from the newer version.

PowerPoint is not an Apple product and it seems a lot of people around here avoid Office.

I should further say the files I sent are .xlsx and .docx files. They look fine my end and I send such files all the time without problems.
However, I did try to cheat by going in via the Safari onto my 'live' online email account and the Safari automatically transfers them to winmail.dat files with the same result.
Ahh - have just been on using my PC this time and you are right, it seems that the service provider does the transfer and then when my outlook opens the file (on the PC), it must reconvert to .xlsx etc again.
Very strange.
Ergo, I guess the question should be how I open wimail.dat files ??

Thank you - that all makes sense. It is, indeed, exactly what I did when I upgraded.
I'm also writing this on the machine that crashed a few minutes ago (I posted the crash in another thread). I got back with a 'safe boot' - as I have done a few times before.
I've also de-installed little snitch (and then done a safe-boot & then re-boot ) since that seemed involved. I de-installed Adobe flash, since that seemed to be a problem - I then re-installed the later, apparently fixed, flash. The most recent crashes don't seeme to have a problem with flash any more.
I've posted the various ( generally different ) crashes. I also posted a summary of the similar lines that turn up in most of the crashes.
Unfortuantely, I'm actually trying to use the machine to meet some urgent deadlines and all this is not making it at all easy.
I had had great hopes for 10.7.2 - I thought that the crashes must be pretty common, so would have a common aetiology. There do seem to have been some fundamental changes to the file sytem and to the video interface (that seems to cause problems to brand new iMacs as well as to my 2009 iMac).

I have Citrix VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) Implemented
in my company and installed few Applications on App Server lets say.... MS Office 2013, filzialla, putty, etc...
I assigned these apps to the users through CITRIX STUDIO, when I try to use these apps. on VDI everything is working fine only when i tried to open Word, Excel or Powerpoing, outlook it throws error as

a terminal server"" and apps gets closed.
Please help me on this ASAP.

Hi,
As mentioned in ths article below, run for Office 365 products on to a Remote Desktop Session Host server is not supported. You can install Office products for Office 365 to a virtual desktop, but the virtual desktop must be assigned to a single user.
