Office 2013 w/SP1 OCT - Lync 2013
Hi,
We are trying to deploy Office 2013 w/SP1 from the ISO image -35821 using OCT. We have created a new CUSTOM.MSP file everything is installed as expected in the MSP file EXCEPT Lync 2013.
In any way we are able to install it. If we run the setup manually, Lync 2013 is installed, but using the OCT we never had a chance to install it correctly. Even using the ID config.xml, Lync don't want to install.
Any thoughts /comments?Thanks and best regards
Lionel
Had the exact same issue. Seems OCT is boned with both the Office 2013 SP1 and Lync 2013 SP1 ISO's.
Only way I could get the Lync 2013 SP1 working for deployment was to NOT use a custom.MSP, but rather just the config.xml.
Below are the only options I had in my config.xml and it seemed to deploy ok via sccm.
<Configuration Product="Lync">
<Display Level="none" CompletionNotice="no" SuppressModal="yes" AcceptEula="yes" />
<Logging Type="verbose" Path="%temp%" Template="LyncSetupVerbose(*).log" />
<Setting Id="SETUP_REBOOT" Value="Never" />
</Configuration>
Otherwise, your other option is to deploy the 2013 without SP1 with your custom.msp and update thereafter.

Steps to upgrade lync 2013 beta version to lync 2013 rtm
is there way to upgrade lync 2013 beta to lync 2013 rtm
jitenderHi,
If you are using beta product you cant in any situation to upgrade or to migrate to Lync 2013 RTM.
The main reason is, on the Active Directory there are some objects and value that are not supported with both version together.
When you will install and prepare your schema the beta version will stop functionality.
Another thing is that the beta version is expired not?
You can do something else and export your topology to tbxml file and using it on your new Lync RTM.

Lync 2013 with ipad clinet (lync 2013)
Hi All
I have deployed lync 2013 and installed only the JAN -14 updates over it, my setup is in split brain dns (same name internal & external) and I have added all lync discovery A record to point to the internal IP.my problem is ipad client 2010 is working
fine however ipad client 2013 is not able to connect at all, what I am missing here?
PS: I am using public certificate for the internal servers & Lync connectivity analer go green on every thing when I chose Lync Mobile 2013
please helpDo you have server autodetect turned on in both client versions? Are you signing into both version from the same type of network location (ie. internal WiFi). Does it work if you switch to a different WiFi location that would be external?
Also, you said before "I have added all lync discovery A record to point to the internal IP."
If you have lyncdiscover.<yourdomain> pointing to internal, but mobilty set to external, it won't work. Set lyncdiscover in your internal DNS zone to your external reverse proxy IP. -
Lync 2013 SP1 64 bit crashes on Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit SP1
Systems Involved:
Dell OptiPlex 9020 All in One (080) –Crashes Lync 2013 64bit SP1
Dell OptiPlex 9020 All in One (081) –Crashes with Lync 2013 64bit SP1 -Working okay with 2010 so far
Dell OptiPlex 9020 All in One (083) –Clean install Seems to be working okay
Details of the problems
I have a put in place 2 Dell OptiPlex 9020 All in One’s both with network card Intel I217-LM.
The first system (080) I put place crashed several times before, I put a different new 9020AIO (083) that I created a new with clean install from disk of Windows 7 and Office 2013 64 bit with Lync 2013 64 bit upgraded to SP1. After having this
system side by side with the system that was crashing all the time and network capturing software installed on the new system this issue appeared to disappear. The user has not reported an issue with Lync 2013 in three to 4 weeks.
After thinking this was an issue with Office 2013-upgraded SP1. I decided to create a new image Windows 7 and Office 2013 64 bit SP1 intergraded .iso from web store. (Not upgraded) thinking there was something wrong with the SP 1 upgrade the way I intended
it to work. I reimaged the other 9020’s I have including the one (080) that was having the crashing issues.
The second system (081) is a new image I created, the system got some office updates from the WSUS it should not have been updated with and Lync 2013 was also crashing. I decided to reimage (080) a clean format with the new image. I put this system in
place for the user knowing it was clean install and not have any issue but for the last 2 weeks Lync 2013 has crashed.
I did take their old system back to my desk and was able to get it to crash as well. I decided to see if this problem was with Lync so I installed Lync 2010 I have not seen issue with 2010 yet.
I have also rolled out 2 Dell OptiPlex 7010 towers with the same image as above with no issues so it seems like this issue is only related to the 9020AIO.
Issue:
The computer will operate fine for most of the time but Lync 2013 will crash with not responding, please sign into Lync on the phone (Plantronics D540m). I get windows circle thing spinning and Lync is not responding if you close the
program it will try to run solution finder but there is not anything that will help. The only way to fix this issue is to reboot at this time. At first I thought it was the network driver issue for Intel I217-LM but after installing the usb network
adapter I believe the issue is something related to Lync 2013 SP1
Things I have tried
1. System Event : Application Log pulled I will include below in this message
2. 9020 with Intel I217-LM
3. Update driver version = to current version
4. Change power management settings as outlined http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/p/19523337/20460673.aspx
5. Disable Wireless and Bluetooth
6. Reset users Lync account
7. USB Network Adapter.
Event Logs:
1.The program lync.exe version 15.0.4569.1503 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

Then I get about 10 Office Software Protection Platform before the above error logs occur.Does the issue disappear when you uninstall the update?
If so, it seems that the Lync update is incompatible with your computer.
Please try to uninstall Lync 2013 SP1.

Hi,
have Office pro 2013 32 bit and lync 2013 32bit on win 8.1 64 bit. And I can't start lync meeting's. Lync are working. When i start lync detting error " that lync have trouble and that the program has to be restarted." the choise
is to repare or Close. eighter helps. Any one has any suggestions what to do.Its reasonably uncommon for the client to just crash as far as I have seen. As Desmond has mentioned I would try the latest updates (ensuring that you also have the latest supporting updates for Office). If this doesnt help you may need to look deeper in
the OS.
Hope it helps!

We have in our enterprise the following scenario:
1 - Lync 2013 client is installed
2 - User accounts are not migrated to Lync 2013 Server, users are using Office Communicator as their main tool
3 - Users receive Lync 2013 meeting requests but when try to access them, Lync 2013 client launches and shows error. Users will need to open the browser and paste the URL to the address bar but this still open
4 - We cannot use the workaround of adding "?SL=1" to the Lync 2013 meeting URL as the user base is large and manual workaround is not accepted
5 - Question: is there any automated way, via egistry key or GPO setting, so that users temporarily (until their accounts are migrated to Lync 2013 server) can bypass Lync 2013 client completely and automatically open all Lync 2013 meetings
on the browser, using Lync Web Plug-in?Thanks for the response,
First, I should have mentioned clearly that users have Office Communicator 2007 client and Lync 2013 client installed in their machines. Their accounts are not migrated yet to Lync 2013 server.
Second, we are using IE9 and IE10. The issue is that users CAN join Lync 2013 meetings with their browsers but have to paste the URL manually to browser and add "?SL=1" otherwise, if they just click at the "Join Online Meeting" or "Join
Lync Meeting" URL it launches Lync 2013 client which shows error because is not configured yet, as they are using OCS client and migrating slowly to Lync 2013 server.
Is there a Group Policy setting or a registry key from Microsoft that can be turned on to these users machines and make will all Lync meeting requests to be opened in IE browser instead of Lync 2013 client. We need a way to ignore
Lync 2013 client until user accounts are migrated to Lync 2013 Server. Manually typing URLs is not an option in a big organization, can't explain thousands of users of different levels what to do.
We are regretting the decision not to separate Lync 2013 from Office 2013 package we deployed recently. If Lync 2013 is uninstalled then all Lync meeting requests are opened in browser without an issue. -
Hi,
I have a situation where I installed office 2013 wSP1 Pro to my client systems via SCCM 2012R2. Everything was fine until we deployed Lync Server 2013 to our environment. It turned out that Lync Client is not installed in many computers! I found a solution
for that from Google (New admin files etc). It worked great! No problem is that all older clients have office installed without Lync and all new computers have Office installed with Lync. How can I install Lync client to those clients who don´t have Lync installed.
I think I can find a solution to make a query to find all computers that don´t have Lync installed but I can´t find a solution how to deploy only Lync to those computers. Can I use same Office 2013 Pro source but new MSP file to do that or how should I do
that?
Thank you!
TaaviYou can continue to use SCCM 201x as the preferred delivery mechanism to rollout any new or update an existing piece of software. Lync Server 2013 works with both Lync 2013 and Lync 2010 clients except that newer features are not available for the latter. How
the Lync client rollout or update is performed, whether via SCCM, Windows Active-Directory software-distribution, third party applications, etc. is immaterial.

Lync 2013 FE server certificate - different domain name
Hi,
I am implementing a small Lync infrastructure with the following components in a Resource Forest - Account Forest type implementation with a bi-directional Trust between the two forests:
1 x Lync 2013 FE Standard, 1 x Mediation server and 1 x Office Web App server
Both AD forests have their PKI CAs, the certificate on the FE server is signed by the CA from the Account domain. All servers and workstations have both Root certificates implemented.
User’s SIP domain name (account forest) is different from the FE server (resource forest) domain name.
Question: When internal users sign-in to Lync they get a warning prompt as follows:
“Lync cannot verify that the server is trusted for your sign-in address. Connect anyway?”
Users can select to connect and everything functions correctly, however, I would like to get rid of the warning message at the beginning.
Any idea what may be wrong, is something missing on the certificate ?
Thanks for your help,
LucaYou can try to edit the internal web services FQDN and ensure your other populated DNS records point to a FQDN that matches the sip domain, or use the TrustModelData workaround here:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2833618

Cannot add groups to Lync 2013 contact list
Just recently we've had reports (and I can verify this myself) in the Lync 2013 client if you add a group to the contact list, it says "Cannot perform this action, and the cause is unknown. Contact your support team to investigate this problem."
There is no issue adding individual users to the lync contact list, just if you search for a group (for example, Accounting) and this group is an easy way to add lets say 5 accounting associates to lync instead of individually adding each person at a
time.
Any idea how to diagnose this? In checking my Lync client version I get this:
Microsoft Lync 2013 (15.0.4675.1000) MSO (15.0.465.1002) 32-bit
Part of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013
The server is Lync 2013 as well.
Exchange 2013 is used on premise if that matters.

Lync 2013 client IM emoticons changed to 8-bit versions
My Lync IM chat emoticons suddenly changed to what looks like 8-bit versions. Meanwhile Everyone else in the office that I've checked with (~12 people) still have the normal (current) looking versions of emoticons. We have this product installed on
300+ machines and no one else has noticed, or at least reported this issue.
Any idea how to get them back to looking normal?
I'm on Win 7 Ent 64-bit with most updates installed. Lync 2013 32-bit with Lync 2013 server.
I've repaired, uninstalled/reinstalled Lync and emoticons did not revert. I'd like to know what causes this if possible so I can work at some type of prevention if others start seeing this.
Normal on the left, my emoticons on the right (or below, however this message board posts them)
I don't know if they are exactly considered 32-bit vs 8-bit emoticons but I thought it was a fair description explaining the differences between the two.
When I use one face, the recipient sees the normal 32-bit version of whatever is associated with it.
It doesn't seem to impact the main functionality of the program but would indicate an issue with something that I would like to fix.
I can't find any information associated with this and have no idea where these older looking visuals came from. It's almost like a very old template that is still embedded within the Lync picture tables has surfaced.
I've scoured the options menus but there doesn't appear to be anything related to the visual style of emoticons, just the ability to turn them off or on.
naturally, :) the first thing I did was reboot. No luck.
Ryan
PS- Images were removed because apparently Microsoft still needs to verify my account. I'll post pics of as soon as MS lets meYes! That's exactly it.
Wow, why is it so hard to search for this on the web? I spent a fair amount of time searching for this issue using various keywords (Lync, emoticons, recent Lync 2013 change, etc) and 95% of the results were "How to import or create your own emoticons".
It must be too new to fall into the first page of most engine search queries.
Ok, so little rant aside, Thank you both for answering the question. Also, sorry for not responding sooner. I thought that I'd be emailed when someone responded after having checked the option to be alerted when someone posted. Oh well, we're good
now. At least I have the answer.
Although that blog doesn't explain WHY they made emoticons dull and child-drawing like, at least I know this is because of a recent update. It looks like we will start seeing more of it when I update more computers around the office.
The screenshots I intended to post are exactly like the ones posted in the link from Michael and Paul.
Now that I have created this question it does come up on a search page, so as more people discover and query about the change they will probably find your answers here.
Thanks to both of you. -
Lync 2013 Client Product Activation
I have read the other posts regarding Product Activation Failed and this does not work for me.
Basically we have Lync hosted via a MSP. I have Office2013 Professional. The MSP provided the install files; It works for two users that we are testing; however, I keep getting the Product Activation Failed popup. Infact when i do enter my license key _
i get a pop up that reads: The key you entered is for Office 2013 Professional. Clearly it has to be my Office key.
I called MSFT and they keep telling me that its not their problem. Its a lic key from MSFT!
Unbelievable! Anyway - anyone have any thoughts?Hi,
It does not contain Lync 2013 in Office 2013 professional edition, and you install Lync via MSP, so it seems you can’t use the key of Office 2013 Professional to activate Lync 2013. You may need another key for Lync hosted via MSP.
As the issue is more related to license question, you can also contact Microsoft Customer Service for further assistance. Thank you for your understanding.

Please help!Hi,
Microsoft Lync Server is an enterprise real-time communications server. The Lync client is used to connect Lync Server. The Lync client is only meant to be used with a Lync Server (hosted in a corporate environment) or an account hosted on Office 365 with
Lync functionality enabled. After you doing that you can create a user on Lync Server and login to Lync Server with Lync client.
