Office 365 customization

Hello Guys
Has anyone able to customize Office 365 Proplus to exclude Lync Feature during installation.
I have tried following scenarios:
a) I have made changes in config.xml as
<ExcludeApp ID="Lync 2013" />
b) No UI of application is displayed of this application to create the response file.
c) As this application is Click to Run so no OCT tool can be used. I have tried to use the ODT tool but no success. As it installs entire suite of application along with Lynch.
Can anyone please suggest what other alternatives can be tried out.

Hi,
If it's a Click-To-Run version of Office, then you will not have the ability to choose which components and applications you’d like to install or not to install.
You can do this from the MSI-Based installer, but this option is just not available in Click-To-Run. Setup just installs "all" of Office 2013.
Thanks,

  • How to customize the landing page of Power BI application in a Office 365 Site?

    Hi,
    While we navigate to the Power BI application by clicking the icon from the Site Contents of a Office 365 site, everything is loaded in it.
    But we would like to customize / edit the page, so that all users will see the contents we put in.
    We are SCA / having Full Control on the site but we have limited options in the Power BI application.
    Please provide pointers on how to Edit / Customize the application.
    Thanks,
    Thanan.

    It looks as of now Power BI application on Office 365 doesn't supports any customization.

  • Customize Office 365 ProPlus Installation

    Hello,
    I have Office 365 E3 licenses.
    I would like to customize the Office 365 ProPlus so it does the following:
    Uninstalls the existing Office 2007 Standard and Lync 2010.
    Installs Office 365 ProPlus, but excludes Access.
    Does this silently / without user interaction.
    How can I accomplish this?
    Thank you

    Hi
    We might be able to do this using the
    Office Deployment Tool.  There are just a few easy steps you’ll need to take to reproduce the experience of installing Office 365 ProPlus from the Office 365 portal:
    Download the Office Deployment Tool
    Create an XML file with instructions on how to install Office 365 ProPlus
    Create a self-extracting executable (.exe) file that runs the Office Deployment Tool along with the xml file
    After you create and test your self-extracting .exe file, publish it to your company portal.

  • How to customize PersonImmersive.aspx page in My-Site of Office 365?

    Hello All,
    I want to customize the SharePoint 2013
    online(office 365) "About me" linked page
    (personimmersive.aspx) to a custom look and feel.
    Should I achieve It , in Office 365?
    And If yes , please let me know how should I do?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi darsh,
    From your description, my understanding is that you want to customize PersonImmersive.aspx page in MySite of Office 365.
    You can customize the page via SharePoint 2013 Designer. To find this page, you need to make sure you connect to
    [your_domain]-my.sharepoint.com instead of [your_domain].sharepoint.com. Then you can find the page in
    All Files.
    Here is a similar post for you to take a look at:

  • How to make sure Office 365 (2013) Pro Plus click to run updates after it is installed on a computer

    We are getting ready to move from Office 2010 MSI to Office 365 (2013) click to run ProPlus.  Everything is ready to uninstall and install the new product.
    My question is if the Updates Enabled="TRUE" is not in the configuration.xml file will machines with the click to run office 365 pull updates from the cloud?  I had been told that the Enabled=TRUE is not needed in the configuration file as
    it is a default setting.  We want our machines to pull down updates from the cloud in place of providing a manual update location on our network.
    Our configuration.xml file looks like this:
    <Configuration>
        <Add SourcePath="\\Server\Share" OfficeClientEdition="32" ForceDowngrade="TRUE" >
        <Product ID="O365ProPlusRetail">
          <Language ID="en-us" />

      <Logging Name="OfficeSetup.txt" Path="C:\temp" />
      <Property Name="AUTOACTIVATE" Value="0" FORCEAPPSHUTDOWN="TRUE" />
    </Configuration>
    Thanks,
    Brit

    I am trying more to control the process via GPO with a start-up script and have created a batch file which executes the below command. It works and installs which ever version you define in your .xml file, the only issue i am facing is that re-runs the setup
    at each reboot which isn't ideal. I am currently working on below script which could check the version of the office upon boot-up and only run if the specific version is not available. I have pasted the script right at the bottom of the page and if anyone
    could shed some light in making it to read the version value
    "\\server\c2r\Office365 update\setup.exe" /configure "\\server\c2r\Office365 update\Customconfign.xml" (this is the batch-file used as a startup script)
    PLEASE NOTE: There are three <Add SourcePath in my Cutomconfig.xml and not all three are required I use the one i need by taking the <!-- and --> from the beginning and the end  of each line
    <Configuration>
    <!-- <Add SourcePath="\\Server\Share\" OfficeClientEdition="32" > --> Can only be used to download latest version of ofice365 (specify sourcepath)

    <!-- <Add SourcePath="\\server\c2r\Office365update" OfficeClientEdition="32" > --> to deploy software from internal network resource

    <Property Name="FORCEAPPSHUTDOWN" Value="TRUE"/>  force closes any running office application
      <!--  <Property Name="AUTOACTIVATE" Value="1" />  -->

  • Installing office 365 Home edition on a different hard drive than windows (C:\)

    Hi everyone.
    I recently got an invite from a familymember to install office 365, which is great.
    What's not so great is that it is not possible to customize the installation and install office on a different drive than windows.
    - I am using Windows 8.1 Pro.
    I've done some searching on Google and have heard about a method called click-2-run, which is basically downloading files required to a directory of choice and installing these files. However I need to generate two different xml files to use this method.
    I'm know how the xml files are run together with the setup.exe file, but have very limited information about how the syntax in the xml files work.
    So my question is: How do I install Office 365 on a different partition than my C-drive?
    I have an E-drive with loads of space in which I've made a folder called "Microsoft Office 2015" and placed the essential click-2-run files.
    - download.xml
    - configuration.xml
    - setup.exe
    What should these files contain for me to download and install Office 365 on my E-drive?

  • How do I add a dismissable notice to my (office 365) public website?

    Hi
    I have a public website and I want to add a small pop-up message that says something like "We have placed cookies on your computer to help make this website better. We use a Google Analytics script which sets cookies. More details can be found in our
    privacy policy. Click here to dismiss this message".
    Ideally this would appear at the top of the page and disappear when clicked.
    Does anyone know how I can do this? There are open source JavaScript's available but all seem to need html changes to the site and I don't think this can be done with the office 365 public website. I can't find anything relevant on the forums but I need
    to do this under EU law as it appears SharePoint uses a cookie and I also want to use google analytics.
    Any help appreciated.
    (this was originally posted on the office 365 forum and MS directed me here)

    hi,
    you can edit the master page for sharepoint online using the sharepoint designer 2013.
    you can add the google analytics and dismissal notice using javascript in master page.

  • Assign multiple records to a single graphic in Visio (Or SharePoint 2013 in Office 365)

    Hello,
    I would like to make a live seating chart for an event.  I am pulling data from a SharePoint 2013 list that has names and table numbers (and other stuff).  There will be 10 names per table.  Each name is a record, not each table number.
    10 names will have the same table number.  I can only see where Visio lets me attach one record to a graphic.  I can automatically link Tbl# (in my list) to
    Table_No in the graphic but it will only pick up the first entry, not all 10.  Is there a way to tell Visio to look at the list, and where
    Tbl# equals Table_No attach the first and last name from all 10 records to the graphic?  I want it to be dynamic so when they edit the list, the tables change accordingly.
    Maybe there is an app for that in SharePoint?  I am working on Office 365 SharePoint.
    Thank you for any assistance.
    Richard Twigg

    Hi rtwigg,
    seems this is one of visio graphics limitation regarding the external data.
    visio graphics, may only support for one row.
    you may consider this idea :
    "It is a good idea to separate your rows into visual units so that you have everything you need and nothing else in a single row. To link a shape to a data row, simply drag the row from the external data window and drop it on the shape. A default data
    graphic should immediately appear next to the shape displaying some data from the row. From here you are able to customize the graphic to fit your needs"
    by means, you may need to use the visio client.

  • Project working with Project Online in Office 365

    Hello,
    My question is related to project working and using Project Online to track projects.
    * Can I use a single "Project Online with Project Pro for Office 365" subscription for tracking and creating reports about all project sites and their tasks in Office 365?
    Meaning, if we have multiple projects designed in Project Pro and then uploaded directly to Office 365, can we gather the task, resource and progress information from these projects (created directly to Office 365) in a Project Online overview? One person
    using Project Online to oversee multiple projects, others uploading their projects and changing task information in Office 365 to a SharePoint site with Project Pro and Office 365 subscriptions.
    We want to have one person with Project Online overseeing the progress and create reports on all projects that have been uploaded to Office 365 (Project Portfolio Management), but not creating new projects. Is this possible with just one Project Online subscription?
    The other users would all have an Office 365 Enterprise 3/4 subscription for accessing Office 365, collaborating and updating their tasks. Project managers would have a Project Pro subscription for creating and uploading projects to Office 365.
    Thank you in advance.

    Helen,
    Your question is slightly confusing, so let me try and say it this way:
    1) Your PMs (multiple) will use Project Pro, to create and publish plans to Project Online
    2) You will have one user who will 'administer' Project Online and create reports etc.,
    3) You will not have any other users access Project Online
    4) I am not sure about you 'SharePoint' comment--so excluding this.
    The problem is that, Project Pro+Office 365 does not necessarily give you access to Project Online. This combination is more useful when you are using just Project Pro or using project Pro to sync plans with Task lists on SharePoint Site. Plans that are
    uploaded this way will NOT appear in Project Online. So, the person who has the Project Online license will not have any data to report on.
    Having said that, here are few options:
    1) Stick with Project Pro +Office 365. Team Members can access "Task" lists in SharePoint Sites. In this scenario, Reporting will be somewhat complex, because each site is its own, and you might have to customize to be able to report across multiple sites.
    2) If you want an easier Project Portfolio Management, Project Online is better. However, in this case, your PMs need to get Project Online with
    Project Pro for Office 365 which will allow them to publish plans to Project Online. Then your user with project Online license can generate reports for the portfolio easily. In this scenario, if you want team members to be able to submit timesheets,
    work with documents etc., you might want to look into getting the Project Lite for them (http://blogs.office.com/2014/03/31/project-lite-may-1st/)
    Hope it helps.

  • Managing Office 365 Updates?

    I use WSUS and/or System Center Configuration Manager 2012 to manage Office updates today.  Can I continue to use these products to update Office 365 ProPlus?  Plz Suggest? What is the best way?
    Thanks

    No.  Unfortunately you cannot.  There's a new update system for the Click To Run software.  CTR is a whole nother animal.   This document goes over the limitations: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee624360.aspx
    If you want to control which updates are applied and distribute those internally, then it works something like this:
    Deploy Office with configuration.xml (and/or GPO) configured for an internal update location
    Write and schedule a script to regular run setup.exe with another configuration.xml to download the updates to a shared location
    Microsoft just finally gave us a few more customization and some limited GPO control in April.  Here's some information on that:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/odsupport/archive/2014/04/28/new-group-policies-introduced-with-the-april-2014-update-of-office-2013-click-to-run.aspx

    Here's the references you'll need:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219426(v=office.15).aspx
    Yes the documentation is spread out all over and is not all up to date.  We haven't found the updates to be reliable either and are still frustrated with the lack of any central management or troubleshooting.  It's like they released the software
    but are still working on the tools to manage it.  Good luck.

  • Unable to license Office 365 ProPlus when customized at the application level

    It has long been claimed that Office 365 ProPlus can only be installed as one single package, and that Click-to-Run is not customizable at the application level.  Microsoft lists the following at
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj839718.aspx “Office 365 ProPlus installs as one package. This means you can't choose to deploy Word and PowerPoint to users, but not Access.
    If you don’t want users to run Access, you can customize the installation by using App-V. You can also use AppLocker to prevent users from starting certain Office applications.”
    Can anyone then explain the purpose of the additional product ID’s specified in the following kb article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2842297
    Using the product ID’s listed here, I set the Configuration.xml file to selectively install only four Office products, which included Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.  In this example, I removed the Product ID O365ProPlusRetail and instead just included
    the Product ID’s for the individual applications we wanted to install.
    <Configuration>
      <Add OfficeClientEdition="32">
       <Product ID="AccessRetail" >
         <Language ID="en-us" />
       </Product>
       <Product ID="ExcelRetail" >
         <Language ID="en-us" />
       </Product>
       <Product ID="PowerPointRetail" >
         <Language ID="en-us" />
       </Product>
       <Product ID="WordRetail" >
         <Language ID="en-us" />
       </Product>
      </Add>
     <Updates Enabled="TRUE" />
     <Display Level="None" AcceptEULA="TRUE" />
     <Logging Name="OfficeSetup.txt" Path="%temp%" />
    </Configuration>
    Given what I had read throughout multiple areas of documentation, especially the line that mentions, “Click-to-Run is not customizable at the application level,” I was surprised and excited to see that the click to run installer only installed the applications
    that I specified.
    Using the Configuration.xml file I specified above, I was able to complete a custom install of Office 365 ProPlus, and included only programs that I wanted to have installed.
    The issue comes when you go to license the software.  I can launch any of the individual programs without issue, but I am unable to complete the process of activating the license.
    For example, see below where I have launched Word, entered my account information and attempted to activate.  Everything has worked fine up to this point, but I am told that I cannot activate because the product is not installed.  It seems that
    my custom install has prevented needed information from being added to my system to allow for the activation wizard to detect the presence of the installed Office software and to activate appropriately.
    Can anyone from Microsoft comment on this?  Is there any way possible to proceed given my configurations?  If not, what is the purpose of
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2842297 ?
    In what case would you actually be able to use the additional product IDs? (AccessRetail, ExcelRetail, WordRetail, etc.)

    Whilst I don't work for MS, I have a few thoughts on this..
    The documentation refers to the use of ODT for customisation, but that is mainly for customising the install-time aspects and the update sources, not the resultant feature state.
    For controlling feature state, either AppLocker of re-packaging/sequencing via App-V is suggested.
    KB2842297 mentions the products that ODT will "recognise" for the purposes of "customisation", but doesn't really detail how nor why.
    C2R, as it is a pre-packaged sequenced output, is intended to be consumed as-is, by the vast majority.
    Re-packaging/sequencing of a complex product such as Office isn't for the faint of heart (and to be honest, the installers for Office have long been a complex topic over many years)
    MS have stated for many years that the individual component applications of the Office suites, are not permitted to be broken up out of the suite, for license compliance.
    e.g. If you install OfficeProPlus, and via customisation, disable or do-not-install specific component apps, you must hold a license for the relevant suite (ProPlus in this example).
    Even if you re-compose the resultant installed apps, such that only those apps that would equate to OfficeStd, because you installed ProPlus, it is a ProPlus license that you must hold.
    Similarly, if you were to install individual apps, composing a feature-equivalent result to ProPlus, and "functionally" have the same set of apps that ProPlus would give you, holding a license for ProPlus is not sufficient, becuase it is not ProPlus
    that you have installed.
    So, when you modified the configuration XML, and downloaded and installed "WordRetail" + "ExcelRetail" etc, this is not equivalent to ProPlus (neither from an installed-product perspective, nor from a licensing perspective).
    It seems to me, that your license (as recorded/represented in your MS account) is finding that you have products installed for which you don't hold a license.
    And, that the license that you do hold, is not a match for the products you are trying to activate.
    In years gone by, MS did make available individual products (e.g. Word, Excel etc) for sale.
    I don't know if MS continue do make individual apps, in C2R form, available for sale, but the Office product team have created ODT in such a way that ODT can cater for them.
    Perhaps in some global markets, or possibly in the future, MS might make those individual products available in C2R form.
    So I'm not all that surprised, based on nothing more than previous experience (sprinkled with some assumption and theory), that you've found some interesting, slightly-mystifying things ;)

  • Office 365 Page Layout error

    Hi all,
    Im customizing the look and feel of an office 365 public site. I have created my master page and successfully deployed it.However, when i create a page layout, i get the below error:
    An invalid or empty reference to a Cascading Style Sheet file was specified. Valid references must specify only a filename that ends
    with a ".css" extension
    I've checked all my css references and all are good. What could be the cause this?

    I suggest to re-deploy it and make the change in the extensibility kit
    backup the master page
    open the CSDefaultMaster page outside of Sharepoint designer
    make your change and save
    Go to Sharepoint Designer and save the master page
    save
    This is general library regarding your issue

  • Office 365 email deployment using Outlook 2010 and PRF files

    Hi,
    I've been struggling to get Outlook 2010 setup with a new Office 365 deployment. I would like to use custom PRF files to get the new Outlook profiles configured. I have more than 100 users.
    One of PRF files I'm using is shown at the end of this message. Each user will get a custom PRF file with his/her information already configured (mailbox, server name, etc...). I've obtained the corresponding Exchange server using:
    Get-Mailbox <email> | select ExchangeGUID
    I've attached the domain at the end of the GUID and then that's the Exchange server. It matches what you get with Outlook using Autodiscover.
    Using these PRF fies I'm able to create a new default profile and set all the parameters as if I had create the profile manually. Two problems here though:
    1) I don't know what to change in the PRF file to set the Logon Network Security to Anonymous Authentication under the Security tab (Exchange account properties)
    2) When Outlook asks me for the username and password, it won't take it, and I know I'm using the right credentials. If I create the profile manually (not using Autodiscover) and I use the same configuration parameters in the PRF file, everything is ok. I have
    already run all the updates and tools that come as part of Setup Desktop in Office 365. Actually I get the same results with Outlook 2013.
    I'm looking for some help here or ideas how to roll Office 365 without having to go user by user and creating a new profile and waiting for Autodiscover to finish :)

    Wow, even if we were to find out what to add to the PRF, it turns out each user mailbox has it's own unique server name (aka Virtual Connection Point). I cannot believe two departments of Microsoft aren't talking to each other!!!! ..... wait, that always
    happens. 1 week later and probably 100 hours later I am just going to create a simple how-to for each user.
    Here is the link I just found explaining the "virtual connection points". http://www.blackmanticore.com/2c209fbaa93ae6cf8f8dac5b50281f2e
    I'm sure NEXT YEAR Microsoft will catch up with itself and add this option/feature in the Office Customization Tool to create PRF files that will actually work with their services.
