Office 365 Management Pack - SCOM 2007

Hi All,
Can anyone please point me to an official link on SCOM 2007 R2 Management Pack for
Office 365. Just wondering if the below link is the right one which I am reffering to
http://www.systemcentercentral.com/scom-monitoring-office-365/
Also, the one which is available for download in "Microsoft Download center" (http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=43708)
is designed for SCOM 2012 family, not for SCOM 2007 R2
Appreciate your help...
Faizan

Although this MP is not the official document on monitoring Office 365 using SCOM 2007 R2, it original came from
http://blogs.technet.com/b/momteam/archive/2011/07/29/monitoring-office-365-using-operations-manager.aspx which has a higher reputation and reliable source for Microsoft solution. At last, it is high recommend that you should test it on your testing
environment before roll out to production environment.

I would like to know if there is SCSM 2012 SP1 MP available for SCOM 2007 R2 ?
I downloaded the "System Center Monitoring Pack for System Center 2012 - Service Manager" MP from
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29980 and then import into SCOM 2007 R2, however, I found that there are some MP dependencies issue.
For example, the "Microsoft System Center Service Manager Library" MP requires "Microsoft SystemCenter Library" and "System.Health.Library" MPs of version 7.0.8427.0. Howerver, the "Microsoft SystemCenter Library"
and "System.Health.Library" MP in SCOM 2007 R2 is of version 6.1.7221.0

  • Office 365 Monitoring using SCOM 2012 R2

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=43708
We have imported MP for O365 and added the new subscription (with Global Administrator permissions using Office 365 admin )after that we got an alert like below:
     Connection to EndPoint Service failed
Any idea what would be the issue here?
    Sengo

    Hi,
It's the correct page response "EndPoint not found", if you try to access the  https://office365servicehealthcommunications.cloudapp.net/shdtenantcommunications.svc
    page.
The blank username and passwords are Ok as well, but be careful to edit your credentials from the subscription page, as they are not changed in this case in the Office365 Run As Account, looks like a bug. Therefore, edit them only through
the Accounts menu, or create a new subscription.
The management pack communicates exactly to the mentioned above page only, it's not possible to use IPs, as they could be changed at MS servers side. The host should be whitelisted in case if you have firewalls\proxy. At the same time, depending
on your network\proxy\subscription configurations, possible issues could exist because of certificates and authorization at different levels.
In case of proxy - the Office 365 Proxy Run As Account should be configured. It's automatically created during installation of MP, but the account with Internet access should be added there. Take in attention that using the Office365 Run As
Account does not work out. Therefore the separate Windows account should be created and used as the Office 365 Proxy Run As Account, even if it's the same as the Office365 Run As Account. When using the proxy account, one of the Monitoringhost.exe
processes works under this account. If the proxy account is not configured, this process works under the system account. The proxy account was not documented in Office365 MP manual.
Don't change the default name of created Office 365 Run As accounts, somehow it affects the connection monitor.
    Hope it helps :)

    Hi Natalya,
Thanks for this post. Indeed my SCOM server is behind a proxy. Let's say my Office 365 account is called "SCOM.O365" - it appears under Administration - Accounts under Basic Authentication, with the "friendly" name of "Office 365
Run As Account_xxxxx". Do you mean I create a second account under "Windows" (it would be Active Directory based) also called "SCOM.O365" that the MP will use for proxy, and the MP will automatically run MonitoringHost.exe with this
    AD account?
    thanks!

  • Office 365 monitoring using SCOM

Looks MS has released MP for office 365 , Did any one imported and configured alert ?
What are the pre-request to configure alert ?
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=43708

This MP is a little annoying as you'll get a critical alert for any Resolved Incident entries still showing on the Microsoft O365 status pages. Until Microsoft expire these entries off from their side, you're stuck with the alert. If you manually close
the alert, it gets recreated as it's still present on the O365 side.
This means you're left with a bunch of unnecessary critical alerts clogging up your Active Alerts, such as:
Resolved Incident EX8319: False positive for Exchange Online (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident EX8318: False positive for Exchange Online (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident EX8312: Post-incident report published for Exchange Online (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident EX8267: Post-incident report published for Exchange Online (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident LY7139: False positive for Lync Online (FalsePositive)
Active Incident SP9188: False positive for SharePoint Online (ExtendedRecovery)
Active Incident SP9208: Extended recovery for SharePoint Online (ExtendedRecovery)
Active Incident SP9187: Service restored for SharePoint Online (ExtendedRecovery)
Active Incident SP8367: Service restored for SharePoint Online (ExtendedRecovery)
Resolved Incident IS9202: Service restored for Identity Service (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident MO9196: Service restored for Office 365 Portal (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident FO8317: Post-incident report published for Exchange Online Protection (PIRPublished)
Resolved Incident MO8285: Service restored for Office 365 Portal (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident MO8287: Post-incident report published for Office 365 Portal (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident EX8268: False positive for Exchange Online (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident MO8253: Service restored for Office 365 Portal (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident MO8370: Post-incident report published for Office 365 Portal (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident EX9215: Service restored for Exchange Online (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident EX8343: Post-incident report published for Exchange Online (ServiceRestored)
Of that lot, I regard only four of those to be Critical, the rest should be in the Informational section.
Bear in mind too that this is per O365 subscription, so if you happen to look after a number of clients with O365 subscriptions, you're going to get multiples of those. Flood city.
They need to further enhance the Office 365 Monitoring API to make it more granular so that things can be properly categorised.
Oh, and the folder should be called Microsoft Office 365, not just Office 365. :-/

  • Office 365 Monitoring

    Hi All,
MS released MP for Monitoring Office 365, In my environment office 365 is in Cloud , Can you please guide me how can i monitor office 365 with the help of MP

    Hi,
As far as I know, SCOM 2012 can be used to monitor Azure, so I think with the Office 365 management pack we should be able to monitor Office 365 in cloud.
The management pack can be download here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=43708
Please go through the management pack guide before using it.

  • Is it possible to switch from Office 365 online user management to Active Directory after Exchange online migration?

If we utilize the Cutover method to migrate from on-premise Exchange (2007) to Office 365, which to my understanding will hand over user management/authentication to Office 365 online during the process, is possible to later switch from Office 365 user management
to Active Directory (synced to a future local domain, or even possibly via AD federation single sign-on)? If so, how difficult is this process and is there any documentation available?
Asking this because the organization  I'm working for plans to upgrade (re-do actually) its entire infrastructure. There will be a completely brand new domain/AD set up that's totally unrelated to the old one. At the same time, we also plan to migrate
all emails (previously hosted locally on Exchange 2007) to Office 365 and get rid of local exchange. Now because we will set up new domain, we do not want to carry over the older AD to the cloud, hence we will not use the "Staged Migration".
So the plan is to to use "Cutover" migration first, which means all authentications will become Office 365 managed. That's fine for now. But later, after we set up our new domain and AD controller etc, we'd like to have Exchange Online switch back
to syncing with our new on-premise AD. We'd also like to consider the AD Federation Services if it's not too complicated to set up.
Your advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

In principle, you cannot sync back from the cloud AD to the on-prem, yet. But you can take advantage of the soft-matching mechanism once you have the new AD in place:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2641663
Be careful though, as the moment you turn on Dirsync, all the matching users in the cloud will have their attributes overwritten. A very good idea is to do an 'export' of the cloud AD first, using the WAAD module for PowerShell and the Get-MsolUser cmdlets,
which you can then use to compare or import data in the new on-prem AD. Some links:

    Hi Every one,
While trying to add an unsealed management pack to 2007 authoring console we are getting error

The Authoring Console has not been updated and does not understand the OpsMgr 2007R2 MP Schema version. It can still be used to produce MP that will work on OpsMgr 2007 R2, but you need to reference the old versions of the libraries.
You can check this link , it will help you in your issue

  • Office 365 files do not open

I recently loaded Office 365 on my Windows 7 desktop.  I cannot open any file created in Excel by doubleclicking on the file.  I have used the repair function many times, uninstalled the previous version of Office -- no good.  I cannot open
Word documents by doubleclicking on the file, but I can open them by opening Word first, then browsing for the file.
If I try to open an Excel file by doubleclicking it, nothing happens.  If I try to open it after opening Excel, the file will briefly flash on the screen and then the program crashes.  I could open Excel files created in Office 365 by opening Excel
2007, then opening the file from Excel 2007.  That's not an option now, as I have uninstalled Excel 2007.
I have tried to run Excel/exe/regserver, and get the error message "Windows cannot find 'Excel.exe/regserver.'  Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."
I see that this seems to be a fairly common issue, but I can't find any solution that lets me open Excel files.  Hoping that you have a better solution.

    Hi,
When uninstalling an Office version while leaving another version installed on the computer, you should repair the version of Office remaining after the uninstallation process, to make sure that file type associations will work correctly.
If you choose to re-register the application, as Diane mentioned above, please note the space in the command.

  • Scom 2007 and scom 2012 agent multi home

is there version limit for the agent multihom for scom 2007 and scom 2012?
In technet i found it for SCOM upgrade it mentioned need scom 2007 CU4 and above, how about for multihome approach for SCOM agent?
Besides that, instead of agent upgrade, could we perform agent uninstallation scom 2007 and reinstall scom 2012?
    Thanks for your advice.

    Hi Cylim,
You can upgrade your agents to SCOM 2012 only from SCOM 2007 R2 CU4. Please look at these helpful links:

As Scott mentioned, you can uninstall SCOM 2007 agent and install SCOM 2012 agent on one or a few servers, and see if they report properly to both management groups SCOM 2007 and SCOM 2012:

  • Active Directory Schema Extension for Directory Synchronization - ADFS 3.0, Office 365

    Hi Team,
We are in a situation with extending the schema for one customer so that these additional exchange attributes may be utilized. They have a single data center where the Primary Domain Controller resides and have multiple remote sites each of which have Additional
    Domain Controllers installed.
As recommended by Microsoft, I am going to extend the Active Directory Schema with Exchange Setup so that I can leverage targetaddress attribute from Local AD to set primary email address when directory synchronization happens.
My Query: Do I have to extend the AD Schema with Exchange from each of these ADC's? Or the changes I make on any of them will replicate over the others also?
Note: The customer will be using ADFS 3.0 'Single Sign On' with Office 365 and does NOT have any On-Premise Exchange deployment.

My Query: Do I have to extend the AD Schema with Exchange from each of these
ADC's? Or the changes I make on any of them will replicate over the others also?
Schema extension is done against the Schema Master. Once done, it gets replicated to other DCs with the AD forest.
For more details about Schema Extension by Exchange, you can refer to that: http://www.resdevops.com/2013/02/13/extend-ad-schema-to-allow-greater-office-365-management/

  • Office 365 Exchange

    Guys,
I am testing Office 364 Exchange. According to the manual, I need to change the dns servers from my hostingprovidor into ns1.bdm.microsoftonline.com  and ns2.bdm.microsoftonline.com . But when I do that, my website isn't available anymore.
So, I would like to use office 365 and exchange but I would like to keep my website @ my hostingprovidor. How an I get that done?
    regards,

    Hi,
You do not need to change the NS record to be able to test Office 365.
The only reason for doing so, is to let Office 365 manage you DNS entirely.
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/office365-suite-help/verify-your-domain-and-change-name-servers-at-any-dns-hosting-provider-or-domain-registrar-HA103480040.aspx
What you probably want is to just change MX, and a few CNAMEs and some SRV records. You get the values for the records if you add your domain in the Office 365 admin center.
Take a look at these two support documents.

  • SCOM 2007 R2 vs Windows 8.1 client Management Pack

    Hello
We are running rollout of replacing XP to Windows 8.1 on clients monitored by SCOM 2007 R2.
Clients are discovered but we miss a Win8.1 Client Management Pack to discover and monitor basic parameters as we used to do for WinXP clients.
As far as I know there is no Win8.1 Client MP released yet but I found a workaround (custom MP) which allows to discover Win8.1 clients when Windows 8 Client MP is imported. (http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2014/04/01/windows-8-client-os-mp-doesn-t-discover-windows-8-1.aspx)
The problem is that Windows 8 Client MP is designed for SCOM 2012.
Do you know if it is possible to import the MP above to SCOM 2007 R2 without any consequences?
What is the recommendation for the way forward? Do you think upgrade to SCOM 2012 is a must?
    Regards,
    Arkadiusz

    Hi Arkadiusz:
The download page for the Windows 8 client management pack does accurately indicate SCOM 2012 is the platform.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=38434
The Windows 8 Client Monitoring and Aggregate management packs will not import into SCOM 2007 R2. You do need to upgrade your management group to SCOM 2012 or SCOM 2012 R2 in order to use the Windows 8 client management pack.
