Office 365 - onsite Exchange

Hi All,
We are looking into office 365 but were wondering if it is possible to keep our onsite exchange server and just run the office apps.
Holchem IT

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to deploy office 365 with Exchange Online services, while keeping your current Exchange server, say Exchange 2013.
And yes, Exchange Online Service can meet your preferences. It supports two deployment options:
Cloud-only deployment:   Your organization has all user mailboxes hosted in Exchange Online.
Exchange hybrid deployment:   Your organization has some user mailboxes hosted in an on-premises Exchange organization and some user mailboxes hosted in Exchange
Online.
For details on how to do an Exchange hybrid deployment (assuming you are using Exchange 2013), you can refer to this article:

Certificates for Office 365 Hybrid Exchange 2010 Exchange Online v15
We need to set up a hybrid server to allow us to begin moving mailboxes to Exchange Online. We created a new Server 2012 R2 server with Exchange 2013 SP1 to act as our Hybrid server. Reading the literature leaves me with questions about what
certificates I need.  My understanding is that the certificates in play on the on-premise Exchange 2010 servers don't need to be changed.
I've looked at the TechNet article "Certificate requirements for hybrid deployments"
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh563848(v=exchg.150).aspx
Certificate requirements for the new Exchange 2013 SP1 server are still unclear to me, I think the new server needs a SAN certificate with:
    Hybridserver.domain.edu
    autodiscover.domain.edu
    EWS.domain.edu
    Can anyone clarify?

Cert is required only if you want to deploy ADFS for SSO.
Otherwise you can use your existing Cert for all the Services

  • Office 365 hosted Exchange Outlook 2013 "The resource you are trying to use is located on an unsupported version of Microsoft Exchange"

I have Outlook 2013 downloaded from my Office 365 account and am getting the error "The resource you are trying to use is located on an unsupported version of Microsoft Exchange".  I have added all the steps I have followed so far below.
We changed over to the Office 365 hosted Exchange from 2003 Small Business Server yesterday.  I have backed up my Outlook 2010 then uninstalled all Office applications and rebooted.  Then downloaded the Office 2013 suite from my account
and installed it.  Ran the desktop setup to "Set up your desktop applications to work with Office 365."  Went to the control panel and launched the mail tool, made the
profile and named it Outlook and it auto filled with the correct info.  Clicked Next and it all checked as good, but when I launch Outlook I get the error "The resource you are trying to use is located on an unsupported version of Microsoft
Exchange".  I have rebooted the laptop and recreated the account three times with the same results.
    Any suggestions?

OK.  So we solved the problem.  At least in my case.
We deleted the profile again then jumped on a neighbors wifi and then ran the desktop setup from Office 365 again.  Then we launched the mail setup tool, created a new profile and entered the information for the account.  After this took we launched
Outlook and everything is working fine.
One thing to point out is that prior to the time that it worked, when I would create the profile and open it to set it up, it would auto fill the two available fields Name and Email Address.  On the last run it didn't auto fill and I had four fields
to fill out.  Name, Email Address and Password (x2).
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Office 365 & Onsite Avaya PBX

We have an onsite Avaya IP-500 PBX with mainly IP desk phones. Using the Avaya TAPI driver on a PC, using Outlook 2007 we used to be able to click on Call Contact and using the Avaya TAPI driver the desk phone would automatically start dialling. This also
    worked using dialler.exe
We've recently migrated our onsite Exchange 2003 server to hosted Office 365. All users are E3 users and we've downloaded and upgraded to Office 2013. Now when I try and call a contact from within Outlook 2013, it starts up a Lync 2013 window and says The
    calling feature is disabled.
I've fixed this problem by adding a TAPIOVERRIDE key to the registry as described here :-
    slipstick.com/outlook/contacts/calling-from-an-outlook-contact-does-not-work/
and it seems to work as before.
My question now is: - If I receive an email from an internal user, I can click on their picture and see their contact numbers from AD, but clicking CALL tries to initiate a Lync call. Some users don't have webcams and speakers so I'd like to initiate a TAPI
call utilising my desk phone directly from this screen rather than adding them as a contact. Is this possible?
    TIA Chris.

    Hi,
In Outlook 2013, it is by default to use Lync 2013 when you click Call in the use contact. I am not familiar with how the Avaya IP-500 PBX works to make a call with your contacts. Does it only work with the user who is added as a contact in Outlook?
If that is the case, please contact the Avaya IP-500 PBX support to confirm if it can work with AD users who are not added as Outlook contact in local machine. If I misunderstand, please feel free to point it out.

  • Office 365 to Exchange 2010 Hybrid Mail Box Migration

I'm working on setting up a pilot for Office 365. We have Exchange 2010 SP3, in a DAG configuration (two front end, and 2 mail box servers). I have setup the hybrid configuration. All firewall ports are open.
Problem 1: We can move mail boxes up to office 365 with out a problem. When we try to move them back we get

I know someone is going to say "Trun on IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults", please tell me how to do that. I'm not an exchange expert, or an IIS expert.
Problem 2: We can email to account in Office 365. Office 365 can't email to on-site exchange. We do have Mimecast as a spam filter, and I've been digging in that to see if that is a problem.
Just looking to see if anyone has an idea of thing to check for this.

    Fixed
    1. Connect to the Office 365 Portal http://portal.microsoftonline.com
    2. Click “Admin” in the upper left hand corner and go to “Exchange”
    3. Click “migration”
    4. Click “+” and then “Migrate from Exchange Online”

  • Outlook 2010 Office 365 and Exchange -- can't get them to talk to each other

I saw similar question posted with no answer.
Have Office Outlook 2010 on HP Pavillion dv7 running Windows 7 Premium and Office 365 on HP Envy x 2 running Windows 8 and can't get either of the Outlook programs to talk to Exchange.  They both ask for passwords and none of the ones I try seem to
work. Yet the email program that came with the HP Envy x2 (part of Windows 8?) manages my Exchange emails as well as my gmail and bellsouth.net accounts.
If for some reason I can't link Exchange to more than one version of Outlook (I'd like to connect to both), suggestions for connecting Exchange to Outlook 365 would be welcome.
    Suggestions?

Make sure you have installed the latest SP for Office 2010 and all the other updates. It also requires the PRO PLUS version of Office for all features to work as expected, if you are using Standard or Home this might be the problem. Check here for more info:

  • Unwanted contacts synced with Office 365 and Exchange 2013

I have an issue with unwanted contacts on Mavericks (and formerly Mountain Lion) syncing with our hosted Exchange server on Office 365. The problem began when the Office 365 service upgraded to Exchange 2013. I do not use iCloud at all.
The unwanted contacts are only visible when I click on “All Contacts” within Contacts.app and do not appear in any hosted or local contact group. They are synced to all our macs, but are not visible on anything else, including Outlook.app or OWA, or our iPhones and iPads. Each user with a hosted Exchange account on Office 365 has the same problem, but with a different set of unwanted contacts. Normal contacts behave as expected for each user and device.
The format of the unwanted contacts is simple. They contain nothing but an email address (no name, phone, IM or other details) which leads me to think they are automatically generated recent or suggested contacts, although some of them are quite old. We use Mail.app exclusively on our macs.
I can delete these unwanted contacts one at a time from any of my macs, and although they appear to be deleted on the server (resyncing another mac deletes them there too), they will reappear (resynced from Exchange) within a day or two and they have to be deleted all over again. It is a frustrating and time consuming process.
    My questions then:
can I prevent Contacts.app from the syncing these contacts?
or can I prevent Mail.app from presumably sending them to the server in the first place?
or is there a command I can issue through Powershell to tell Exchange to delete and not retain these contacts?
Any other suggestions to prevent this behaviour would be most welcome.

I'm having this exact same issue.
Have you seen this thread? https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5252673?start=45&tstart=0
I'm on Exchange 2013, which I manage, and Mavericks.  I also noticed you can see a "Linked Contact" on OWA 2013.
This is just more of the extremely poor Apple software engineering we have seen over the last few years...

  • Duplicated Contacts - Office 365 Microsoft Exchange Server

I Have experienced problems where contacts are constantly duplicating over using Microsoft 365 to sync contacts without Icloud being turned on.
My Boss has a huge number of contacts roughly over 2000, when they are being duplicated, triplicated and so on it becomes a disaster at first i thought that th eproblem was within his contacts in 365 server but then i manually sorted all contacts wiped them all of his iphone 4s and runing the latest IOS 5.1.1 the problem still persisted when i would first choose to sync contacts from our 365 account it copies singles he comes after 3 days of using the phone with lots of contacts being copied more then once. I check the 365 and outlook there are no duplicates so it is only happening within the software of Apple same thing with his IPAD. I have tried everything there is all the low level checks and the rest of the settings to a point where we are tired and he has no time to chase me after this any longer. Please apple sort this out its a bugg i hope my message gives you a clear message on what needs sorting out i repeat this is only happeneing to him seeing that he has the most amount of contacts all the rest of us we do not have a problem. So far i have deactivated 365 and then re-activated to get rid of the duplicates many times, today i gave up i set icloud to be his backup but its not the same as on 365 as soon as a contact is added is also backed up to the server immadiatley and with Icloud is not the same only when wifi is on and the phone is being charged.

And it seems that Microsoft is dropping the current task sync solution in O365 in general!

  • Exchange 2010 Free/Busy Federation with vendor's Office 365 tenant

    Here the situation,
    ORG A
    ====
Exchange 2010 SP3 On-premise. No externally accessible CAS available/published (we are very secure and require VPN for Outlook/OWA from home/outside network)
    ORG B
    ====
    Office 365
    ASK
    ===
ORG B is a vendor for ORG A and we would like to have federated free/busy sharing between the two organizations. I have read the steps about setting up a federation trust, configuring org relationships both ways, configuring autodiscover on our end.
    My specific questions are,
    1. Currently we don't have any externally published CAS servers. My assumption is we need atleast one (and probably more for fault tolerance) for federated free/busy sharing correct? We obviously don't want to place this in the DMZ/externally...so what are
the recommended configuration? Publish the CAS externally? Any other more secure recommendations? We don't have TMG or any other Microsoft solution for that purpose...are there any other options? We use Cisco IronPorts for inbound/outbound email.
    2. Does this coexistence server have to be Exchange 2013 or will Exchange 2010 sp3 suffice?
    3. Are there any other methods of accomplishing this ask? We don't want users to have to individually share calendars...so internet calendar sharing is out of the question.

    Hi,
If the organization receives or sends Internet e-mail for the domain, we need to
    configure an
    internet facing CAS server.

  • Exchange 2007/Office 365 Merger Coexistence

Our company has a 2007 Exchange server. We are merging with a company using Office 365. The decision on premise/hosted email is months away, each organization needs to maintain it's own email identity including mail flow (we are using different external
    archiving products)
We'd like to implement common address book and calendar sharing by deploying Exchange 2013 on premise and configuring a hybrid migration scenario, but not actually doing the migration.
A couple of questions I could not find in the documentation:
    1) Is this a supported scenario?
    2) Can we configure each unique email domain's routing individually? We like domain xyz.com to be centrally transported (go to and from premise connectors) and abc.com no to be (to and from cloud connector). Can't find this scenario explicitly stated as
    being supported
    3) Can we create unique address lists for each org? Management wants to have all users from both companies in the GAL but not have their groups be visible to each other.
    Thanks

    Hi psh8989,
According to your description, I know that you want to migrate public folder from Exchange 2007 to Office 365.

Based on my knowledge, Exchange supports moving your public folders to Office 365 and Exchange Online from Exchange 2007 SP3 RU10 or later. I notice that your Exchange server version is SP1, please upgrade to SP3 RU10 first and perform migration.

  • Integrating CRM with hosted Exchange server that is not Office 365

I started out by setting up our domain, but it seems to be pushing me to add loads of DNS records so that Office 365 can use it.  Firstly, do I have to use an Office 365 hosted Exchange, or can I use an alternative (my Exchange is hosted with COLT CEANO)
When I try and create an email server profile, I only have the ability to specify a name and description - the fields to specify incoming and outgoing servers etc. are not visible.
I expect I am doing something fundamentally wrong, can anyone assist ?
    Thanks.

If you are refering to the email function in CRM, then you have 3 option
    1. Server side sync
    2. Outlook client
    3. Email router
You can use your own exchange to send out email.

  • Migrating Public Folders on Exchange Server 2007 SP1 to Exchange Online\Office 365

    Hello,
Our company is looking to migrate from Exchange 2007 on premises to Exchange Online/Office 365. We have a number of public folders on our exchange server that function similarly to how the new shared mailboxes work in Exchange Online. That is to say that
we have many outside users (customers and wholesale dealers) emailing this public folder ([email protected]) and our end users are given permission to view and respond as themselves ([email protected]). I've been looking all over but haven't found a clean
way to migrate the current public folders directly into shared mailboxes. I'd just start from scratch, but we want to keep the records of the emails we've received at these public folders for customer support reasons. Can anyone help?

  • Need help on office 365 Exchange Hybrid

    Hi Team,
I have question related to Planning that
I have Exchange 2013 Implemented in my on Premises. Now I also want to configure office 365 for Exchange Hybrid.
I am planning only to deploy DirSync server but not ADFS. I know the drawback as without ADFS the office 365 user will have two identity and also to log-on on office 365 A/C either Outlook/Lync  the user need to sign in using office 365 ID.
    My management have below requirement
    1) The user Mailbox should reside in Office 365.
    2) The user will be sending receiving mails using OUR domain suffix Ex :- abc.com
    3) They do not want to built ADFS as the user logon dependency will increase again on our on premises servers.

    Hi,
According to your description, I understand that the question is about the deployment of Exchange 2013 and Exchange Online in Office 365. This forum focuses on the deployment of Office 365 ProPlus which
is the version of Office that comes with many Office 365 plans. Therefore, I suggest we can ask a question in Microsoft Exchange Online forum for more professional suggestions:

  • Migrate Office 365 To On-Premise Exchange 2013

    hello
My client attempts to migrate the mailboxes hosted from Office 365 to Exchange 2013 on-premise hosted in the client's company.
However, despite all attempts , it appears that no procedure works correctly. All's time , something wrong appears Inside the process.
Indeed, on Office 365 we don't see the servers in our on-premise exchange 2013.
the Exchange Hybrid are set correctly and to exchange 2013 migration attempts to run Office 365. (MRS proxy select)
All servers are in the same Update. My client can't update with the last CU6 all server and want to stay with the CU3
Thanks for your read and for your help

    Bonjour,
" My client can't update with the last CU6 all server and want to stay with the CU3"
C'est par contre un point plus que géneant, le CU3 n'est plus supporté par MS, la compatibilité avec O365 n'est donc pas garantie.

  • Office 365 Exchange

    Guys,
I am testing Office 364 Exchange. According to the manual, I need to change the dns servers from my hostingprovidor into ns1.bdm.microsoftonline.com  and ns2.bdm.microsoftonline.com . But when I do that, my website isn't available anymore.
So, I would like to use office 365 and exchange but I would like to keep my website @ my hostingprovidor. How an I get that done?
    regards,

    Hi,
You do not need to change the NS record to be able to test Office 365.
The only reason for doing so, is to let Office 365 manage you DNS entirely.
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/office365-suite-help/verify-your-domain-and-change-name-servers-at-any-dns-hosting-provider-or-domain-registrar-HA103480040.aspx
What you probably want is to just change MX, and a few CNAMEs and some SRV records. You get the values for the records if you add your domain in the Office 365 admin center.
Take a look at these two support documents.
