Office Extend

I have a question about Office Extend solution.
Is there a limit on how many users can use office extend?
I know that the Aironet 600 AP only supports 15 connections.
However, office extend is supported on other APs. (3600 series for example).
If I use Office Extend with 3600 AP am I able to have 50 connections?

Here is the config guide:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps11579/products_tech_note09186a0080b7f10e.shtml
The "yellow" port is for LAN side connectivity. The traffic sent across this specific port will be encapsulated in CAPWAP and be sent back to the controller. You will need to configure LAN configuration on the WLC for this port to work. This is also a very important topic. Your WLANs will be secured with PSK or EAP. However, this port is not, so you might want to use WEB AUTH with 802.1X or something to secure that port. Just in case the AP ever gets stolen someone cant just plug into port 4 and gain access.
If you find any of this helpful please support the rateing system! Thanks again!

  • Redundant guest anchor/office extend 5508 controllers

    Hello,
We are looking to deploy 2 guest anchor/office extend 250 AP 5508 Controllers.
The first 5508 would be primary for both public wireless and office extend AP's.  The second 5508 would not be used unless the first controller fails.
What is best practice when it comes to the certificate for public wireless.  Should I create single certificate for both controllers or have two different certificates?
    Thanks

This makes sense.  What would I need to do so that the networks don't overlap on both controllers for guest?  Would I need to make new networks on the secondary controller:

  • Office Extend Mode

I have got a 3502 setup anf functioing in Office Extend mode. I have found one issue though. I have to set the checkbox on the my Management Interface to Enable NAT Address and put the external address in the box. Once this occurs no internal APs can join the controller.
Does anyone have any ideas on setting this up with a single controller behind a router and not having to set the NAT Address for the Management interface? Should I setup a second interface on the controller to be for external management?

Ok, well no worries. As Steve pointed out there is/was a NAT issue on earlier code. I think it was fixed in M1. but again, if you give the WLC an outside address and protect it with ACLs from the outside and allow your internal folks to hit it from the inside you should be ok. But again, I dont know how your network is designed or your specific design requirements. Please take these as suggestions as they may apply.
Perhaps Steve can add to this as well...

  • Office extend option not seen under flexconnect

I have a 2602i , registered on a virtual controller with 7.6.130.0, running in flexconnect mode, but I dont see office extend option under flexconnect, any comments ???

well I could not find an evaluation dtls lic for virtual controller, so I installed a 7500 controller dtls lic and it shows in use and data encryption is enable on AP, still i don't see office extend option.
I am not sure its because I am using a 7500 dtls licence.

  • Office Extend Question(s)

I have a couple of questions surrounding the Office Extend 600 series access points.
    Currently we have 2- WLC5508s.
    1) In the Deployment guide it mentions turning off Aironet IE and Coverage Hole Detection. Is this required, or just highly recommended? What types of issues are we expected to encounter if we have Aironet IE and Coverage Hold Detection enabled with Office Extend AP's?
    2) In a Primary, Secondary configuration of WLC controllers, I would need to setup another NAT configuration for the second controller int he event of a failover correct? Any alternatives?

Ok so I understand your oe will connect to inside controllers not a DMZ controller. Thats fine .. Here is another way to skin this cat ..
You can create the same ssid as production but name it differently under the profile name. So you can have the same WLAN ssid name.
Under the new WLAN number it above 16, same 100. Configure this one as spec'd in the oe manual.
Then create an ap group for your oe aps and include WLAN 100 in the group.
This way you can have the same ssid, different configs. Since the WLAN is above 16 they don't get broadcasted out unless you put the aps in the group.
    Make sense ?

  • Will the 4404 Controller support Office Extend

According to the The Software release bulletin
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps6302/ps8322/ps10315/product_bulletin_c25-530367_ps10315_Products_Bulletin.html
We just purchased a 4404 controller. The document above states 4404 controllers have the capability to be upgraded to the new 6.0 software which supports Office extend. Does anyone have any idea whether it will be possible to purchase a wplus (wireless plus) license to enable office extend on a 4404 controller?
    Thanks

Regarding Office Extend is a new "feature" with the new 5508 controller running the new IOS, 6.X and Office Extend license. No one as yet knows if the Office Extend feature will be extended to the WLC200/2100, 4400 or the WiSM. I am suspecting that because Office Extend is a license feature, I have no doubt that this will be exclusive to the 5508.
Because the 5508 can AP support license can support 25, 50, 100 and 250, anticipate the End-Of-Sale announcement of the WLC 2100 and the WLC 4400.

  • Office extend 1142 and dtls keepalive failure

    Hi
I am setting up office extend with 1142 APs on a 5508 controller.  All seems ok and I see my SSIDs on the remote AP.   However when I try to connect I don't get a dhcp address and the connection fails.  When I look at logs and some debugs I see dtls keepalive failures and the AP is actually disconnecting and re-associating with the controller.
As a troubleshooting step I decided to disable Data encryption through the AP advanced tab and after the AP resets all is now working.
Would anyone have an idea why data encryption would cause the issue ?  I have opened the standard 5246 and 5247 UDP ports on my firewall.  Have I missed out some other port that may need opened ?
    Many thanks, St.

    Scott
The AP is changed from Local mode to H-REAP mode.
In the H-REAP tab we have Enable Office Extend ticked.
In the Advanced tab to get this to work the Data Encryption box is unticked and the text below says Current Dta Encryption Status is plain text.  I can't think of any other settings related to office extend other than the NAT stuff on the management interface and allowing 5246 and 5247 through the firewall.
So if these settings are being correctly reported the question is why do I then see Data and ctrl being encrypted when I do "Show dtls connections"  If I have unticked Data encryption I expect to see only ctrl connections being encrypted.
I can't see any other config issue that would allow dhcp and a connection to work with Data encryption disabled and cause it to fail with Data encryption enabled.
The AP always joins the controller no matter what the Data encryption setting is.  However with it unticked the AP retains its connection to the controller and I can get an IP and pass data normally.  With the data encryption box ticked the AP joins the controller then soon afterwards drops off reporting a DTLS keepalive issue.  No IP address and no data passed.  In fact with data encryption ticked I see a message of the form "DTLS plumbed in" or something similar.  Then soon after I get the keepalive error and the AP drops off.
    Thanks, St.

  • Office Extend printers have issues with pullprint.

Office Extend printers have issues with pullprint.
This only happens when using Office Extend. Some office locations have been connected using Office Extend and then moved over to subscriber line which fixes the issues. printer is connected to port 4 of  OEAP 600. Please suggest
    Manish

when the error occurs, the office temp files are owned by someone with the same uid, so office says the documents are in use even though they're not.
do your users login with network or portable homes? if so, they should all have unique uids/gids.
if they're logging in locally, then mounting afp shares with unique ids, that won't cut it.
the most efficient way to avoid this is to have your users login with network or portable homes. this may not make sense for your environment, however.
the other option is to change users' local uids, as outlined in the mvps article linked above. use dscl instead of nicl to do this.

  • Office Extend and Controller association

    Hi,
Can we can mark option 43 in DHCP pool to point to the controller IP address for the OEAP, as LAPs do? or have to be it manually typed through the Web GUI in the AP?... some way to do a massive deployment of this kind without manual intervention one by
    Regardsone?

    Welcome,
Yes, a 5508 in the DMZ can act as both a anchor and officeextends solution. Very good cost effective solution whereby allowing you to use 1 WLC to do 2 functions.
I hope this helps. If this answered your question please kindly support the rating system.

  • Different between H-REAP mode & Office Extention in Cisco AP

What is the different between H-REAP mode & Office Extention .
Hope both created for remote branch support , but it seems only H-REAP can route the data traffic locally & forwards control traffic to remote WLC.
This Office extend feature forwards both Data & Control traffic to office WLC.
Is my understanding correct ..please help me.

    Hello,
As per your query i can suggest you the following solution  -
Hybrid Remote Edge Access Point (H REAP) is a wireless solution for branch office and remote office deployments. It enables customers to configure and control access points in a branch or remote office from the corporate office through a wide area network (WAN) link without deploying a controller in each office. The H REAP access points can switch client data traffic locally and perform client authentication locally when the connection to the controller is lost. When connected to the controller, H REAPs can also tunnel traffic back to the controller.
The Office Extend AP (OEAP) is a specific submode of H-REAP, and is supported on the Cisco Aironet 1130AG, 1140, and 3500i (not 3500e) APs. You can also use the Cisco Aironet 600 AP, which is a model dedicated to the OEAP mode. This dual-band (2.4-GHz and 5-GHz) AP supports 2 corporate SSIDs and 1 home SSID, up to 15 clients, and offers 5 Ethernet ports at the back (1 uplink port, 1 corporate VPN port, and 3 local switch ports). Other OEAP-capable APs support 16 SSIDs (15 corporate SSIDs and 1 personal SSID).
    Hope this will help you.

  • HA in Cisco WLC

    Hi friends,
I am planning to have a wireless environment for a corporate company. I would like to have a Cisco wireless LAN controller 2100 series and 15 numbers of cisco aironet 1142 n access point. Since wireless is gonna be a very important medium for the premises, I am planning to have high availability for the 2100 series WLC.
With this scenario I am having the following of queries?
    1. Does high availability is supported with WLC 2100 series or need to go for an hihger end WLC's? It would be great if I am guided with some documents on this?
    2. My wired switching infrastructure at the core is running with GLBP. Can I connect the both WLC in each switch in an dual home architecture?
    3. Is there any pre-requistes for doing the high availability for the WLc's?
    4. Yet another company that is close to me do have the same architecture for wireless infrastructure, except that they have cisco WLC as 5508 and Cisco aironet 1142n access point. All the end points NIC adapters that they have support a/b/g standard. But with an n series they continously report low signal strength, the reason for this still unknown?
But the tech documents of 'n' series access point claims that they support, 300Mbps within 33 feet and 200 Mbps within 66 feet.
They are having 2 nos of Cisco 1142n access point for every 30 feet but still they are facing low signal strength. Also there workspace are all cubicles and without any interference.
It would be great if I am guided on this issue also?

    Karthik Anbumani

    Hi Karthik,
You can build this HA solution based on the 2100 controllers. And if you want HA for 15 access points you need two 2125 controllers. But I will suggest that you consider the 5508 controller since that is a more future proof hardware and will give you more features that you might want to use such as Office Extend.
Right now there is a bundle available for one 5508 with 10 x AIR-LAP1142 and the GPL price for that bundle is USD 31,424. And you should consider if you need the HA solution or if you are covered by the onsite support. In the product list below I have used the regulatory domain E and power cable for Europe. Make sure that you get this correct for your country. This is a limited offer ending August 1st 2010. You also need the additional 5 access points or more if you want Office Extend.

Also consider that the 2100 series only have FastEthernet interfaces so you will not be able to utilize the full 11n throughput.

  • WLC 7.4.100 NAT IP Address field missing

    Hi
I know that very few people have their wireless controllers on version 7.4.100. But has any one noticed that the NAT IP address field in the management interface configuration menu is missing?, although it is mentioned as being present in the WLC 7.4 configuration guide. This would definitely affect Office-Extend.
I just thought I ask before I raise the issue with Cisco TAC.

    Hello Osita,
As per your query i can propose you the following solution-
Control which address(es) are sent in CAPWAP discovery responses when NAT is enabled on the Management Interface using the following command:
    config network ap-discovery nat-ip-only {enable | disable}
    where:
–enable— Enables use of NAT IP only in a discovery response. This is the default. Use this command if all APs are outside of the NAT gateway.
–disable—Enables use of both NAT IP and non-NAT IP in a discovery response. Use this command if APs are on the inside and outside of the NAT gateway; for example, Local Mode and OfficeExtend APs are on the same controller.
For more information refer to the link-
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn74.html
    Hope this will help.

  • Aironet 600 AP interruptions

    Hi All,
Fairly new to the Office-Extend arena, but I have two Air602 OEAP units for testing. Overall functionality is great but I do have one slight annoyance.
While i'm connected to the "Corp" ssid, the one pushed from my WLC, it will occasionally drop my connection. My Wireless NIC will sit there and sent ARP broadcasts and get no response, this lasts for about 30-60 seconds and then everything will reconnect like nothing happened.
This is only an issue on my Office Extend AP, my LWAPP in the office dont do this to me. I have verified that the problem is not linked to just my PC. I have another laptop that I tried at home and got the same behviour.
I did a packet capture during the "silent" period and i see my wireless adapter sending packets, but getting no responses. The controller doesn't see the Ap disconnecting nor do my clients disassociate or see the SSID disappear.
I've verified it's not my internet connection at my home because I had a client on the "local" SSID on the AP as well as the "Corp" SSID, the corp ssid client lost connection while the local SSID client maintained internet access without any interruption.
My 5508 WLC is on my "internal" network behind an ASA running 8.4(3). I thought maybe the firewall was an issue so I tried another non-Cisco firewall as well and got the same behavior.

I dont see an OS upgrade available under CCO downloads for the AP. Any ideas where I should start to look for this?. Thanks.

I'm seeing a similar issue running the 7.3.101.0 code.  However, it's only happening (or being reported) for mac users.  And it can go well beyond 30-60 seconds.  It can go on indefinitely sometimes until I disconnect and reconnect to the SSID.  My SSID does show connected, but similar to your experience, no arp responses from the default gateway.  I did a packet capture to see this.  Interestingly, not long after starting the capture I see some EAPOL packets come in and suddenly it starts working.  So would seem that 802.1x is blocking the port and for some reason I'm not re-authenticating.  I tried disabling session time out, but that didn't solve it.
Here's the packet trace where it's not working then suddenly starts working:

  • FlexConnect Question

    Hey guys,
I am currently studying for CCNA Wireless exams, and I have several questions regarding FlexConnect.
In my lab, I have ROAS setup and my router is providing DHCP for my laptops and AP at branch. The 5508 WLC is not connected to this network.
This is my switch config on my 2950 switch interface:
    interface FastEthernet0/1
    description ***LINK TO 1142-AP01***
    switchport trunk native vlan 221
    switchport mode trunk
    spanning-tree portfast
    end
    interface FastEthernet0/2
    description ***LINK TO 3602-AP02
    switchport trunk native vlan 221
    switchport mode trunk
    end
    interface FastEthernet0/16
description ***TRUNK PORT TO 2620 Fa0/0***
    switchport trunk native vlan 96
    switchport mode trunk
    speed 100
    duplex full
    end
My controller is 5508 with 7.4 code. I configure my both 1142 and 3602 APs from local to FlexConnect (then they reboots), but when I went to FlexConnect tab on 1142 and tick the "VLAN Support" and entered the native vlan then Apply. I don't get the WLAN I configure for Flexconnect.
This is what I have with 3602 AP. From here I do see the two WLAN I made for flexconnect.
At this point, I am not sure why the 1142 is not showing the two WLANs I created, but it works on 3602 AP.
I can see the the flexconnet SSIDs, but I can't join either one. I followed this guide  https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-24082
Also, What is the difference between using "Enable OfficeExtend AP" and "VLAN Support" in FlexConnect tab?
How would I know which one to use? Can you please give an example where and when to use Office Extend and VLAN Support?
    Thank you in advance
