Is Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 [Word, Excel, Powerpoint] compatible with Yosemite?
I'm using Excel, Word and Outlook for Mac 2011 in Yosemite without any issues. I can't speak for Powerpoint, as I've never opened it. I'm not a power user in Office, so I doubt I've really exercised it. But so far, Word editing and some simple Excel spreadsheets I use for inventory tracking have worked with no problem.

Other products in suite work - Word, Powerpoint but excel wont open any files. The error condition is:

Since yesterday all my usual .xls files will not open (Office for Mac 2011). CAN open .xlxs files. Default 'open with' is Microsoft Excel.app. No software updates done yesterday or the day before (or maybe a Silverlight or an Acrobat one by accident?). Have repaired disc permissions. HHD name is still same as it always was. What next? Thanks
PS I'm not a great techie so assume I don't know what you're talking about! You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type: ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

I can't use arabic with excel office for mac 2011
why i can't use Arabic with excel office for mac 2011?

Because even after 14 years MS has failed to add arabic support to most Office products for Mac. Instead use Open/LibreOffice or Numbers. -
I am trying to install office for mac 2011 on my new imac which I have already installed parallels and windows 7. On inserting the office dvd the computer defaults to windows. Parallels support suggested disabling the dvd drive in parallels. I have tried this but still the computer wants to open the exe file with windows. Any ideas please?

Launching MS Office for Mac 2011: "Font is not Installed" errors
Message Microsoft (MSOffice).app wants to use the font "xxx". This font is not installed. Allow Microsoft(whatever).app to use this font? show in finder, don't allow, allow. happens with all Office apps, runs through entire font library.
about 3 months ago this started - not sure what I did to kick it off, but now whenever I try to use a Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 app it runs through the series of fonts and asks me to do something. I can go through one at a time and select 'don't ask me again' and 'allow' or 'don't allow' but I'd rather figure out (and solve) the problem. Any ideas?

Office for mac 2011 not working correctly on new Macbook Pro- Help
I have a MacBook Pro from September and had One to One transfer all files/programs (including 2008 Office). I then purchased the Office for Mac 2011 program and they installed it (I guess they did not remove the older program). It has never worked correctly and I have tried to contact Microsoft to no avail.
None of the documents open with Fonts intact (Word and Excel open up blank though the graphic elements show up. I have to Select All and choose a font to make it show up.
Powerpoint is barely functional (none of the layouts actually show up when I select them, the sidebar of slides does not update as I type or try to change themese, etc. And then when I type, the program freezes and then shuts down.
I have uninstalled 2008 and 2011 and then re-installed 2011 but the same issues occur. Someone on the microsoft community told me to remove my duplicate fonts, I ddi that and the same issues still occur. My brother has the same laptop and Office for Mac 2011 and no issues.
Can someone help me basically try to start fresh- should I uninstall again? (I waas told that installing/uninstalling too many times can further the problem).
Help!
Thanks,

LibreOffice or Open Office vs Office for Mac 2011
I just bought a late 2011 MBP and I cannot use my Office for Mac 2008 software. Wondering if I am taking a gamble by downloading either LibreOffice or OpenOffice or should I just buy the office for Mac 2011. I really just need the Excel and Word compatibility. Advice from experienced users would be great!

Thunderbolt Bus:Here is a very easy possible solution, worth trying before uninstalling Office. It worked for us so hopefully might work for you.
We installed Yosemite on a test machine to check for problems. Office 2011 for Mac ran and still does run fine on that machine with Yosemite.
As a result we installed Yosemite on our main machines. At the same time we updated Office for Mac 2011 using the latest update 14.4.7. It was at this point that Office started crashing every time a document was opened.
Solution that worked for us.
1 Using Font Book (comes with your Mac) we removed all duplicate fonts. We selected the automatically remove option.
2 Restart computer.
3 Shut down computer.
4 Restart computer in 'safe boot' to do this:
a) Shut down the computer.
b) Press the power button.
c) Immediately after hearing start-up tone, hold down SHIFT key.
d) Release SHIFT key after Apple logo and progress indicator appears.
e) Once computer has opened, restart the computer without holding down any keys.
5 Hopefully all should be ok now. Your machine might run a little slow for a while as it rebuilds caches etc but all ours were back at full speed after a few minutes.
Best Wishes

I have recently installed Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro (2011). I have also recently got Microsoft office for Mac 2011. Can somebody please advise if it is possible to use (install) office for mac 2011 on this windows 7 that i have installed. If possible, how to do it?
No it is not possible.
You can use office for mac, on OSX, but not on windows.

Office for Mac 2011 - can't open old files
I am currently on Mac OS X v10.6.8. I recently installed Office for Mac 2011. I cannot open some of my old files. I think the ones that use the old file names, e.g. .doc and .xls, rather than .docx and .xlsx.
Can anyone explain how I can open these files in my Office for Mac 2011?
Many thanks! The free LibreOffice will open them, and it's the most cross platform office program (Linux, OS X and Windows versions)

Problems with Office for Mac 2011 installation
I'm trying to install Office for Mac 2011 on my new (bought yesterday) Macbook Air
I entered my pin for the Office into the site and got my download link
I started to download it and it said it would take over 4 hours and when the download got to halfway (of 1GB) the installation stopped and the message given was 'You do not have permission to access the requested file' and this came up every time I tried to restart it
I decided to re-install the program but was met with the same issue..
Can anybody offer any advice or explanation for this it would be greatly appreciated! You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. After download of Mav, MS Word for Office for Mac 2011 comes up blank.
After download of Mav, MS Word for Office for Mac 2011 comes up blank. Other MS Office apps work fine. When restarting iMac in Safe mode, Word opens OK. Apple support rep says, "Not our problem; it's Microsoft's. There are no Microsoft experts here." But it was Maverick that knocked Word out. (Note: the "not our problem" quote is from the third contact with Apple support. The first two support techs tried to resolve the problem, were very accommodating, and tried their best to solve the issue.)
On another note, I use a Microsoft wireless keyboard, with push-button shortcuts to mail, Safari, etc. The keyboard Command + keystroke shortcuts no longer work, and in the System Preferences file the message tells me it can't access them.
Any suggestions, especially for the former problem, would be appreciated.DHodges wrote:
Thanks; this last reply came closest to 'solving' the issue. While I selected font sub, it at first had no affect on the document.
I then went back to prefs and set the compatability dropdown from 'Custom' (where it had defaulted) to 'Word 2004-2007', assuming these docs were created from a recent past Windows.
I 'Saved As' a Word for Mac " .docm "
Whoa... the extensions mean something. Your original problem (document shows bold, italic, underline, but tables and other complex formatting are lost) sounds as though the document was being exported as a .RTF, a Rich Text Format file. If you save as a .DOCM, that's a Word Macro Enabled Document. Regular Word 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011 docs are .DOCX. Regular Word 97 through 2004 docs are .DOC. You need to save that document as a .DOCX or a .DOC or you're gonna have problems later.
- and the documents appear normal (though I had to switch one to 'Portrait' as it for some reason wanted to display in landsacpe.
Normally you'd have to select page orientation.
So, poor testing on my part. I have no idea which of the above steps fixed it but I'm guessing the 'Save As' to my version of Word.
If so, it would appear the 'Compatability' feature was not working at least on these two documents.
Word's compatibility feature is supposed to ensure that a document you produce is compatible with the target version of Word. If you turn the compatibility stuff on then you will be warned if you are using Word 2007 through 2011 and you use a feature that earlier versions of Word do not have. Microsoft shipped a translator which works with Office 2003 and 2004 and which allows Word 2003 or 2004 to read Word 2007, 2008, 2010, or 2011 documents (.DOCX) and to save them as Word 97 through 2004 documents (.DOC) _as long as they don't have any incompatible features_. Word's compatibility features doesn't do much for .RTFs or for .DOCMs.
