Office Jet Pro 8500A Plus scanning error

Using windows 8, all-in-one will print from computer, but I cannot make a copy directly from all-in-one OfficeJet.  I get "Scanner Failure".  I have followed HP help solutions and completed the printing solution including making a test page.  I cannot  get past first step in scanner solution.  I have not deleted driver and reinstalled yet.

Hello OC618,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with a Scanner error on the printer.
I do have a few suggestions that we can try in the attempt to troubleshoot this issue.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
I have also located a document that deals with A 'Scanner Failure' Message Displays on the All-in-One Control Panel and You Cannot Scan, Copy, or ....
Please feel free to write me back if you have any other questions or concerns.

  • Office Jet Pro 8600 Plus Scan to Email Setup, website not working.

When setting up scan to email.
The first question is: Is the HP software provided with the printer installed on the network-connected computer?
The answer should be yes, but we can't follow the steps of opening up the software on the computer and acessing scanner options like the printer tells us to.
Anyway, in the past I have set up a two users by selecting "No" to this question then it provies me with a website to enter in:
    http://192.168.5.158
This is the current address it is giving me. This has worked for me in the past and have had no issues setting it up this way. But now (after my employer changed my email address) my scan to email is no longer working and I am trying to set it up again with my new email.
Every time I type in the given address: http//192.168.5.158 I receive an error message.
[Fiddler] The socket connection to 192.168.5.158 failed.
    ErrorCode: 10060.
A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 192.168.5.158:80
I had found a forum that had supposedly been a solution where they said to remove web services on the printer and re-set it up, this did not work at all. Still can't set up a scan to email. I just want to use the site given like I normally do, and set it up that way, I need help as SOON as possible please

    Hello rachelhuver,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
Regarding the issue connecting to the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus's Embedded Web Server to change the Email used for Scan to Email, I would like to see if I can help.
If you touch the Wireless icon on the printer, is the I.P address the same as you noted in your post? If not, use that I.P in an attempt to access the needed page.
If you are still unable to load the page, try using a different web browser on the computer. For example, if using IE, try Firefox.
    If you are still unable, it would appear to me that the network is blocking this page from you. You can get around this by connecting temporarily to the printers Wireless Direct network. To connect to this;
    Touch Setup
    Network
    Wireless Direct
On with no security (I suggest)
Connect the computer to the printer's network, ie HP-Print-**-Officejet 8600 series.
Open a web browser (don't worry if you get a message about no Internet), enter this I.P: 192.168.223.1 and hit Enter.
You should now be able to access the Embedded Web Server of the printer, make your changes and apply them.
    Hope this helps,
    JERENDS

  • Office Jet Pro 8500A Plus Disconnecting - Communication Errors

My ScannerPrinter Function is disconnecting after printing or scanning 2 minutes earlier
I am running on Mac 10.9.5 and noticed that there was a HP Software update V3.0 on Oct 1st 2014
It continually disconnects and I have reset the wireless countless times and rebotted both the Computer and Printer to try to reestablish, I have also turned the power save feature off to try to return this back to a reliable printer.
    Need some solutions quick

    Hi @Help369
    I understand since updating to v3.0 you are loosing the connection between the computer and printer.  Please complete the following steps and let me know the outcome;
From the computer desktop, double-click the Macintosh HD  icon.
    Double-click the Library folder.
    Double-click the Printers folder.

    Double-click the PPDs  folder.
    Double-click the Contents  folder.
    Double-click the Resources  folder.
Locate your printer in the printer list, and then right-click on your printer and select Move to Trash.
When prompted, type the Administrator name and Password for the computer, and then click OK. Wait for authentication to complete.
Click the Trash icon on the taskbar, click the Empty  button, and then click OK to empty the trash.
NOTEBy clicking OK, all items in your trash will be permanently deleted from your computer. To delete one item in the trash, click that item to highlight it, and then click OK.
On the upper-left corner of the computer desktop, click the Apple menu icon, and then click System Preferences on the drop-down menu.
    Double-click Print & Scan.
In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button to delete it.
Restart the computer and now you have a fresh start.
    Try scanning.

  • Office Jet Pro 8600 Plus Faxing Problem with 2-EXT port Connected

I have the Office Jet Pro 8600 Plus and when I fax, I must disconnect the phone line connected to the 2-EXT port on the back of the printer. This is very annoying, and I'm hoping someone here can provide a more convienent solution. I'm connected through a Cable Modem EMTA device for my voice service that is sharing the fax...which like I said, faxes fine, as long as the phone line is disconnected from the 2-EXT port first.
    Thx,

    Hi @powwow63 ,
I see that you are having issues with sending faxes, you have to disconnect the line in Ext 2 to be able to send a fax.
I can help you with this.
Using a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone service can cause faxing to fail because fax transmissions are sensitive to the timing of the signals used to transmit the fax. If using a VoIP digital line is necessary, changing the Fax Speed Adjustment setting to Slow might improve the ability to send a fax over a VoIP telephone line.
Make sure that you have a DSL filter installed. If you do not have a DSL filter, contact your DSL provider to find out where you can buy one.
I have provided a document with some steps for changing the fax setting on the printer.
    Cannot Send or Receive Faxes.
Go to Solution nine: Enable or disable error correction mode in this document.
Fax Sending Fails Intermittently or Fails for Only One Recipient.
    Disregard the title.
    Have a wonderful day!

  • Office Jet Pro 8600 plus printing in code or foreign language :(

I have been having issues with the print on my Office Jet Pro 8600 plus lately.  In the beginning it was random but has becom regular.
At first glance, it appears to be printing in German in stead of English.  It's possible that it may be code or encryption.  Some of the characters run together.  It seems like there may be a driver problem.  This doesn't happen when I print to other printers.
One line looks like this:    hf of sbuf e/!!SDSB !l X !jt ..... It should actually be something any of us could understand.  It's becoming costly in both paper and ink.
    Any suggestions?

    Good day Robin,
Thank you very much for your replies and efforts! My sincerest apologies for not knowing that Windows 7 Professional 64 bit was not supported with the tool! I have learnt something new from you and I thank you immensely for that!
We can try the Level 3 or 4 uninstall manually, instead of running the tool. I just figured the tool would be the easier method. Here are the steps for you.
There are 2 ways you can run either of the Levels:
    From Original installation CD:
    1. Insert CD into drive, and then cancel the installer
    2. Open 'Computer', and then right click on the CD drive and open
    3. Open folder Util
    4. Open folder CCC
    5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
    6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
    7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
    8. Perform a Clean Boot
9.. Run the download to reinstall the printer ( HP Officejet Pro Full Feature Software and Driver )
If software was downloaded and extracted to your system from the driver download:
    1. Click on Start and type %temp% in the search field, open the folder
    2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356) (If there is more than one, choose the most recent folder)
    3. Open folder Util
    4. Open folder CCC
    5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
    6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
    7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
    8. Perform the Clean Boot
    9. Download the full feature software and driversHP Officejet Pro Full Feature Software and Driver )
I really hope this does the trick!

Alright.  I want to make sure I have everything correct, then I want to do some research to find out exactly what can be done to get this fixed.  You have an 8500a and are trying to scan using the HP Printer Control app on an iPad.  Everything is up-to-date and has been power cycled (turned off and on), but the iPad still cannot find the 8500a to scan with using the HP Printer Control app.  Is that correct?

    HI RODA80,
Welcome to the HP support forums.  I understand that when you are printing a multiple page document on your Officejet Pro 8500a that only the first 2 pages print.
To better understand the issue would you please provide some further information:
    1)    What operating system are you using (Windows 7, Mac 10.8, or Windows 8, etc)?
    2)    Is this happening for all multiple page documents or just one?
    3)    Has a default of only printing the first 2 pages been accidentally set?

  • My HP Office jet Pro 8600 plus

It was in sleep mode, I pressed the power button to wake it. Then pressed it again to power it off. when I went to use it again it wont turn on. Nothing! No lights , power button will not activate anything. I've checked the plugs, cords , power source. It's only a little over a year old! Is there a power module inside to be reset? I can't see any reason for this.

  • HP Office Jet Pro 8600 Plus false paper jam message

I am ready to throw this printer out of the window! I am tired of false paper jam messages. The printer will be fine for a few weeks, then...another jam message that may take hours to clear. I have: reset the printer, searched for paper jams, verified the latest firmware, jiggled, and even moved the print cartridge rack to the right (which surprisingly has solved the problem a few times). The only thing I have not tried is an incense purification ceremony. Come on HP, quit telling us to try all the useless procedures. There is a sensor in the machine that is malfunctioning. Fix it! Instead of throwing it out the window, I will put it on the sidewalk and invite passersby to take out their frustration with a hammer. This would make a great video! Additional info: If I am able to run 'align printheads', that frequently fixes the situation. One more bit of evidence that there is some sensor on the blink.  8/28/14: HP support personnel said that the problem I was encountering was most likely due to a faulty sensor.

I bought the 8600 Plus on June 20, 2014; received my first "false paper jam" message yesterday (08/27) after loading Legal size paper and adjusting the paper tray accordingly - and No! I did not mix different size papers in the tray. The Paper Jam message continued; I tried all the steps outlined in the fix it guide offered on the HP website (except those that stated: "press the right arrow, go to settings and print a test page". Why? Because the error message was the only thing on the display! Then I saw all the posts about this same False Paper Jam message and decided to try one step mentioned by an HP user, i.e., load different amounts of paper into the tray. I did that and - what do you know? It began to work but the print cartridge then jammed itself way to the right and began making machine gun type noises so I just shut it down. And, yes! I used the power switch first then disconnected the power cord. My printing use had been very light, there's still @ 85% of ink left in the original cartridges. There are no paper pieces stuck anywhere. There is no lint, dust, or other debris. The printer was never dropped or taken apart. it simply has a major series of flaws. So, what's my next step? STAPLES doesn't want it back, and frankly, I don't want a replacement 8600 that has the same design flaws built into it as this one does. And, apparently, I am not alone...I also don't want to wait for a class action lawsuit to settle this all out 2 years or more from now for pennies on the dollar. I would like to get my full purchase price back, and not have to pay for shipping & insurance to send it back to HP. I must say I have had previous success being the owner of many different HP products, but this 8600 is same Lemon that the Edsel was to Ford (if this is unfamiliar to you, I'm sure you can look it up) Paul Botticelli
