Office mac 2011 dmg file wont install

Hey, we brought our first mac the other day so are not too familiar with it, i need microsoft office for work purposes so we purchased it downloaded the file which is X18-08827.dmg  it is refusing to open and start installing and when double clicked comes up with a box saying "following disk images couldnt be opened"  "reason -  not recognised"
I have tried going to the security settings and allowing all programs to be opened but this has still brought no joy
Hope someone can be of assistance
Many Thanks

Simply re-download it from Microsoft's website. If  it doesn't install then the issue is probably a Microsoft issue. You can locate the download at:

  • How to install office mac 2011

I am tying to install the office mac 2011 student thing, it installed but when i type in the key thing on the back it says that the one i type in is too much numbers and letters..

If the letters and numbers are separated by dashes or other punctuation, try ignoring them.

I've had MS Office:mac 2011 on my imac for around 18 months now.  Outlook has just disappeared and when I find the file and open it it tells me that there is a problem and I may need to re-install it.  I've just done this using the installation disc which, then said the installation had been successful.
Outlook is still not working.  Can anyone please advise me on what to do next.

Remove MS Office 2011 completely (here are instructions) and reinstall it.
It's not a simple or fast process but it is important to follow all of the steps in order to get all the files that Office scatters around. This will not affect your data files, only MS Office and its preferences.

  • I installed Office:mac 2011 on my new iMac running 10.8.3 and discovoed my file transfer from my old macbook installed Office:mac 2088. Now I have both installed and none of the office apps work - I keep getting the same error message

I recently purchased an iMac to replace my 2008 macbook.
I used migration assitant to transfer all of my macbook files to the iMac. I noticed that I had the old 2008 version of Office:mac 2008 on the iMac and decided to install Office:mac 2011 which installed successfully.
However, now I can't open excel or word or powwerpoint now using either 2008 or 2011.... I just get an error message saying there was an error and the app had to close. It offers to send a report to Microsoft.
I tried moving Office:mac 2008 to trash but this didn't resolve the issue.
Can anyone help (I am not a really sohpisticated user so be gentle)
    Thanks Dave

    Hello Dave,
This forum is for troubleshooting Apple Software Update for Windows, a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, and not related to Microsoft Office in any way. I suggest you post Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products.

I just bought a new IMAC and I want to install the Office Mac 2011, but it doesn´t have a CD unit. How can I do it?

Howard has the easiest answer. Or at least, cheapest, since you don't need to purchase an external CD/DVD drive.
The "demo" software from Microsoft's site is exactly the same as what's on the DVD. Install that and activate it with the key in your software box.
    From Microsoft's site:
How do I install Office for Mac 2011 if my Mac doesn't have a DVD drive?
There are two options for installing Office for Mac if your Mac doesn't have a DVD drive.
Option 1: Convert your Office for Mac 2011 trial. To convert a trial version, you must have a valid product key. The product key will convert your trial into a fully licensed version of Office for Mac.
    1. Locate the 25-character product key in your product package or confirmation email.
    2. Open any Office for Mac application, like Word, PowerPoint, or Excel.
    3. On the first screen of the Microsoft Office Setup Assistant, click Enter your Product Key.
    4. Enter your product key and complete the installation instructions.
Option 2: If you have not previously installed the trial version, you can download Office for Mac from the Office for Mac website. To download, install, and activate the software you must have a valid Office 2011 product key.
    1. Locate your 25-character product key found in your product package or confirmation email.
    2. Go to www.officeformac.com/download
    3. Click Get Started to start the download process.
    4. When prompted, enter your 25-character product key and select your product language.
    5. When prompted, sign in with your Windows Live ID or sign up and create a new Windows Live ID account.
    6. After you enter your Windows Live ID, you will see a link to download the software. (You will also receive a confirmation email with a link to your My Account page if you prefer to wait and download your software at a later time.)
    7. Click Download Now to start the download.
    8. Save the file to your desktop. Do not change the file name.
    9. When the download is complete, double-click the .dmg file icon on your desktop. This opens the Installer application in Mac OS X.
    10. Follow the instructions in the installer screens to complete your installation.

Do you see a file named Office Installer.mpkg.  If so, double click it and and follow the prompts.

  • Why can't I open ppt file while I have already purchased office:mac 2011

I am using macbook air running the latest os x Maverick, I have also installed office:mac 2011.  My friend sent me a ppt file but it cannot be opened.  Could someone please help?!  Many thanks!

what happens when you try to open it?  Error message?

  • How do install Office: Mac 2011?  I am getting an error message when I go to the page...

trying to install microsoft office: mac 2011 home and student.  i am directed to a page and when i click on the link I get an error message about security.  i don't have the option anywhere of entering the product key.  not sure what to do.

You need to download the installer from Microsoft after you purchase it. Then you will have to run that application and it will request the product key as it goes thru the motions of setting up the product.
If you're trying to download an illegal version for free, that will explain the security message. The browser would be trying to protect you from yourself.

  • Office mac 2011 won't install

purchased office mac 2011 for mac desktop.  office keeps telling us it's not a valid product code.  already tried going into preferences and deleting this com.microsoft.office.licensing.plist.  STILL won't recognize the key code

What happens when you try to install Microsoft Office? Do you see a message? Also, have a look at this site > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5290
If you have installed Microsoft Office but you have problems opening the applications, install the most recent version > http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads

an ipod touch supports all files types which its apps support

thanks, it's good to get a reply, but why do you keep going on about windows? Agreed, there is no mention that Tremor runs on iOS. So far this is the only reason given that it cannot run on iOS. You can read and I can read.
By putting the question to the community I was hoping for something like: the app you want is here-link, or the app you want cannot be written because technical-reason.
From a words point of view it would seem to be open for any ios developer to support DMG files.

  • Opening an Outlook .PST file in Office:mac 2011

    Hi,
I have plowed through discussions concerning importing Outlook Windows data files (.PST) into a Mac Office (in my case, Office:mac 2011) but I am really looking for behaviour similar to that of the Windows client. My current .PST file is located on a shared remote drive on our company network, which is backed up regularly and as I am using both the Windows and the Mac flavor, I would need the Mac version to open the PST file in a similar fashion, ie. online, and use it as my email storage box. As I understand, importing a Windows-made PST file makes local copies of the email messages and events, which would mean I would need to be importing the Windows PST file every day to have the same or similar version run on both computers.
So just to make it clear: is it possible to use the "online2 PST file with the Mac client in the same fashion as with the Windows client?
    Thanks in advance!

it sounds link, the links changed from relative paths to absolute path. You need to use absolute path in original file.

It might be easier to download the trial version from the microsoft site and then use the code off your box set to activate it.
