Office not starting after Lion install - PowerPC issues?

I have an Intel MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 duo)
It was running OK on Snow Leopard.
I had Office (do not remember exactly which version, but recent).
After Lion installing, I cannot open any more any of the Office applications.
This is the message I get
You can't open the application Microsoft Excel because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
What is worse is that not even the Microsoft Autoupdater opens up as well.
I never used a powerpc chip. I am surprised to read in the System Information that this is the setup for Excel

As the last line (above) states, you are using Office 2004, and that will not run on Lion, upgrade to Office 2011 or Open Office or Neo Office or Libre Office.

Security and privacy system preference not working after Lion install.  Not sure if it happen with Lion installer or after updating. What to do?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” (without the quotes) and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Copy or drag — do not type — the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.) You can omit the final line ending in “$”.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null
Remember, steps 1-5 are all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Time Machine not working after Lion install

After Lion install at first Time Machine would not back up-then it did, but backed up the entire HD-now Time Machine will no longer function in trying to retrieve any data from Mail or anything else

After consulting with maker of back up drive (LaCie) I opted to format the drive. Lost some stuff but nothing critical. I then backed up and now all appears to be working, i.e drive is backing up and Time Machine is now functioning.

  • FP Install Will Not Start after DLM Install

The FP installation will not start after an apparent DLM installation.  The DLM appears to install and the control panel shows it is present, but the FP installation will not start.  There are no other messages that appear.  A restart and reinstallation attempt installs the DLM again, but still no FP install.  Using XP SP3 and IE 8.0.
    Thx

    Hi mont1228,
The Adobe Download Manager (DLM) executes the Flash installer in "silent mode" so you shouldn't see a dialog box.  To confirm that Flash was installed successfully, go to http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ and let me know if the animation doesn't appear.

  • ITunes does not start after Lion installation

    hi,
after upgrading to the latest iTunes version and to Lion, I get "The file “iTunes Library.itl” cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?".
    Precise:
I upgraded iTunes to the latest version (from the previous one, I am a regular upgrader) yesterday afternoon around 15:00, then I worked several hours on my iTunes library (including some new buys). At night I then installed Lions. After starting Lions, iTunes does not start anymore.
I have read the threads about copying old library files from the "previous iTunes Libraries" folder. But if I do that, I will loose the entire afternoon work. Anyway it I cannot understand why iTunes now believes to be older after Lion installation than before...
    Can somebody please help?
    br
    a

    Hi,
after backing up, I downloaded the latest version again and it really worked.
Strange that evidently the Lion installation did revert yesterdays upgrade from iTunes. Now it works, including all my latest changes from yesterday.
    Case solved:)

  • Aperture 3.6 will not start after new install

Rebuilt my Mac Mini with a clean install of Yosemite 10.10.2 and reinstalled all my apps. Downloaded and installed Aperture from the App Store but it will not start. No crash, just nothing. Does its animated thing when double-clicked in Finder, and goes through the usual launch action from Launchpad, but then nothing. No icon in the dock, does not appear (even momentarily) in Activity Monitor. I have Final Cut Express installed and have seen other launch issues with this combo, but they all seem to result in an Aperture crash. Any ideas?

Did you install Final Cut Express after you installed MacOS X?  Then install Yosemite again on top of the current system, without reinstalling the applications. See: Aperture 3.x: Aperture unexpectedly quits if Final Cut Express 4 is installed
Aperture does not work after installing FCE, but if you reinstall MacOS X after installing FCE,  both Aperture and Final Cut Express sgizld work.
The download of Aperture may be incomplete. If reinstalling the system does not solve this, trash Aperture and download again.

  • Built in iSight not working after Lion install

First I thought it was iglasses which I removed. I then unplugged my secondary Logitech cam; but still I can't get any image from the Built in iSight Camera after my Lion install.
It shows up as a USB peripheral in the mac System Profiler. What gives?
    Thanks

Hi, i read this very useful post to undestand why my iSight camera won't work under Quicktime video recorder, on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2. I was sure it worked in the past, and for example Photo Boot works, Skype works but not Quicktime. I tried the reset pause, and anything happens. Solution for me was the idea of disconnect some USB peripherical. It was my external audio card for me, a Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 audiocard. It starts to work immediately. If i reconnect the audio card after the working window in Quicktime, it seem to continue to work in a perfect way, but if i close and reopen Quicktime iSight still blocked. Very strange, anyway i just can make it start when i need. I hope this will be useful to others.

  • Ohasd not starting after fresh install

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production With the Real Application Clusters and Automatic Storage Management options on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (x86_64) 11.0.
After installation all cluster and resources were up, I could log in to database. I have restarted orcl1 node, and after boot the ohasd service is not started. Same is with orcl0 node. When I start manually, the cluster comes up. See below:
    grid@orcl1:~> crsctl check has

The issue was with JMS modules. I missed to identify the subdeployments tab for UMSJMSSystemResource where we had two sub deployments as UMSJMSSubDMSOA and UMSJMSSubDMSOA_auto..
I've removed the second subdeployment and all resources listed against is by following this below path in Admin Console
click JMS Modules -> Click UMSJMSSystemResource -> Click the Subdeployments tab.
Ensure that UMSJMSSubDMSOA is the only subdeployment available. Remove others if listed and all dependant resources as applicable to your environment.
Go back to UMSJMSSystemResource and click Targets.
    Deselect BAM_Cluster as target.
    Click Save and Activate.
Upon subsequent restart, the Server came up nice and fine.

  • Mail not updating after Lion install

So I just updated my operating system to Lion and was pleasantly suprised that there were no problems... until I tried to open Mail.
I opened mail and it imeadealty told me that it had to update my database or something... so I said yes. A screen came up saying that it is Upgrading Mail (upgrading my mail database) and it should take a few minutes to do. It says I can check out new mail features while it is upgrading... well this was more than 16 hours ago that the upgrade started. I have tried to Force Quit the Mail app several times. When it does quit and I reopen the program the same screen appears as if the upgrade never stopped but was running in the background.
Any thoughts? Is this just a mail application issue or is it a problem because I installed Lion?

Figured it out... well sort of. I pieced together info from several other posts.
I just ended up deleting my Mail folder and then opening the program. This worked... I did have to re-setup my mail accounts but because I had them all linked to servers (gmail, mobile me, etc.) it didn't matter anyways and I didn't lose any information. I wouldn't recommend doing this if your info isn't constantly backed up to the server... there was another post that discussed how to do this so you don't lose info but I can't find it anymore.
    Here's what I did.
    Open a finder window.
Click on GO (at the top of the computer screen, not on the finder window) to drop down the menu.
With the drop down menu open hold down the option key... this makes a LIBRARY folder appear in the menu.
    Select the Library menu.
Find the Mail folder and move it to the deskstop.
    Now open Mail App.
Once I opened mail the program started fine.
Then I setup my mail accounts.
Next I deleted the Mail folder on my desktop.
    Mail works fine now.

  • Why is my external USB audio card not found after Lion install

Above says it all.  Since installing Lion my external USB audio card is not recognized.  This is a very plain vanilla card.  I worked fine with Snow Leopard.  No additional drivers required.  But with Lion, nada.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It just happened to me. Exactly as Ritcho described. After install fine, after restart, gone. FYI for anyone with the same issue as I had. I was using a Diamond USB dongle to connect my external monitor to the iMac, it was legacy from when I was running a couple of external monitors from my MacBook Pro using them. I took the dongle out of the chain and replaced with a standard Apple DVI to Mini DVI adapter and plugged it into the mini dvi port in the iMac and I was golden. Now to sell the Diamond dongles.

  • Final cut pro x not working after Lion install.

So i installd Lion yesterday but now Final cut pro X is not working... it starts up but is never usable...it jammz right away...
    I use a Macbook Pro 15 inch. 2.53/8gb

Also have this issue - the only "fix" at present seems to be renaming the /Library/Application Support/iLifeMediaBrowser to something like _iLifeMediaBrowser and then launching FCPX - it runs straight away.
This also fixes a similar issue with iMovie 11 under 10.7
Really nasty bug that needs looking into from Apple, I'll file a bug report.

  • Object manager not starting after initial install

Solaris 10/x86, SGD 4.2 - installation was smoothforward.
I was able to open a terminal server connection to a windows host using the wizards but I'm unable to start the object manager.
After clicking on it I get in the detail view:
    Initialising ...
    Starting the application...
Logging in to the application server...

I am logged on as root. What is the problem here?
    Any hints are appreciated.

I don't know what you mean with "connect via ssh"...
I have installed the software on the console. Then I fired up the webbrowser (as in the documentation) and logged in as root (locally).
How is that done when nowhere ssh is explicitly specified?
