Office Open XML PowerPoint in Keynote?

Has anybody found a way to import Office 2007 .pptm files in Keynote? One of my profs last quarter posted everything in his online class in the latest version of PowerPoint (instead of just simple docs...) and I was hopelessly stuck having to go into the school to convert them on their computers which defeated the reasons for taking an online class. I saw that Pages was able to import Office Open XML files and hoped that Keynote would be able to also.
I have Windows installed under BootCamp and Parallels for some modeling tools, but I don't feel like getting an old copy of Office and Microsoft's XML document converter just to be able to convert one type of document. This latest iWork successfully replaced NeoOffice for everything I needed and saves me from going into Windows that much more. (Numbers is brilliant!)
Maybe more XML document importing will be added with a point release of iWork?

This problem bit one of my Mac users, and it took me a little while to figure out what was going on.
In Office 2008 for Windows, there are two new types of file formats. One type ends with an 'x', the other with an 'm'. Both are OOXML-based ("Office Open XML"), but the latter is "macro-enabled". For some reason, Keynote and Pages (and possibly Numbers?) seem to be unable to open or import the 'm' files, but AFAIK all are capable of importing the 'x' files.
I'll refrain from expressing my opinion on Microsoft's choice to invent and use this new "standard" format, but it seems the fact that it's XML-based seems to work in our favor here. On a whim, I tried changing the extension of an unopenable .pptm presentation to .pptx (without making any further modifications) and opening it in Keynote. And boom! It imported smoothly.
I'm not sure if this works the same with other types by converting .docm to .docx or .xlsm to .xlsx, but it's worth a try. Post your results here, I'm curious.

  • Keynote won't open some Office Open XML / .pptx files

I'm a developer trying to generate .pptx documents (i.e. Office 2007, Office Open XML) and would like to open them in Keynote. I already can successfully generate .pptx files which PowerPoint opens fine, but those same documents don't open in Keynote. I get the following errors in Console.app:
    3/3/08 6:39:24 AM Keynote[68427] Couldn't generate XML from /Users/tlrobinson/Downloads/1204554878463.pptx
    3/3/08 6:39:24 AM Keynote[68427] errors (1):
3/3/08 6:39:24 AM Keynote[68427] (0) The document is not in PowerPoint format.
Has anyone been able to generate .pptxs that Keynote will open?

    Welcome to the discussions, tlrobinson.
To my knowledge, Apple only supports opening of .ppt documents, hence the error message you're getting.

  • Office Open XML word processing document

I am getting the following message when I try to open a Word (docx) Document on my iPhone 6 running iOS 8 (latest build at 08/10/14) from within an email account:
"Office Open XML word processing document"
I have tried installing Microsoft Office Mobile and a third part App called Documents.
I have been sent different emails in DocX format (.docx) and I can not open any of them.
I have tried pages on my iPhone and that does not work eaither.
I can however open PDF documents.
I have rebooted/restarted the iPhone twice.
I have a coleage with an iPhone 5 with iOS 8 and they have the same problem.
I have another coleage who has an iPhone 4 on an older version of iOS and theirs works fine.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Anthony

I have had this problem for a while now. The only thing that worked is:
    On your iOS Device:
Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings
Once it restores, connect to iTunes
do not Restore from Back Up (this doesn't work) - instead select Set up as New Device
This resolved the problem opening all mail attachments (PDF, .docx, .doc, .pptx, .ppt, .xlsx, etc.)
    Good luck.

    Hi Charlotte,
You don't say what your version of Windows you have. Assuming XP, go to Start | Run, type DXDIAG and click OK. Click the Sound tab and run the tests to eliminate a hardware problem first of all. If you don't hear anything, check your cables first of all. Also make sure "Mute" isn't checkmarked in your sound setup. You'll find that in Windows Control Panel.
Which browser do you use? If you have Firefox 4, sign up to the HTML5 trial @ http://www.youtube.com/html5
HTML5 is the latest video standard and doesn't require Flash player. Google is in the process of converting all its files to work with the new format. It may solve you problem. If you don't have Firefox 4, you can get it from here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/
    IE8 doesn't support HTML5.
To clean out your temp files, go to Start | Run, type: CLEANMGR and click OK. Click OK again to start the utility. Tick all the boxes except "Compress old files" because the latter takes too long, and then click OK. You can run this utility any time you wish by the way.
The above steps will hopefully fix your problem. If not, post here again please.

  • Office Open Xml (PPT Office 2013) - Drawing.xml looses the SmartArt Shapes Information

I am facing a weird problem. When I open and edit a PPT presentation containing SmartArt and then save it, it looses all the SmarArt shapes information present inside the drawing.xml (OXML) inside the diagrams folder. This happens only when I edit any other
slide (like changing title text) in the presentation not containing the SmartArt and then save it. The whole SmartArt shapes information just vanishes and somehow PPT is able to regenerate the presentation from this drawing.xml when i reopen the presentation
and doesn't show it as corrupt. Initially I thought its an issue specific to my machine but I checked it on other machines and its replicable on them as well. Is it an issue with PPT in Office 2013?

I called nViida thinking it might be an nVidia issue.  He told me to download the 335.70 beta which I did and installed.  Didn't help.
I think called Microsoft and first guy took control of my PC and suggested I install Office Pro 2013 x86 (32-bit) and then transferred me to 3 people before I got disconnected; very frustrating having to explain my issue 3 times.
I uninstalled Office Pro 2013 64 bit and installed x86 and my problems went away.  The Tech told me that the 32 bit version is more stable and they haven't had as many issues and told me that 3rd party apps integrate (like ACT! Contact management which
I use) so I installed the x86 version and NOW WORD, EXCEL AND POWERPOINT ARE WORKING.
I need to get IE 11 x86 working but that isn't that important as I use Firefox as my main browser and Chrome secondarily.
Not the greatest resolution but something didn't like the 64 bit version of Office when I did the 8.1 Update and Office updates yesterday.

  • How to convert all old (pre-Office 2007) documents in portal to new (Office Open XML, Office 2007+) formats?

    Good day.
We have create a single SharePoint 2013 farm and manually copied in it all documents from old SharePoint 2007 server portal.
The question is how to automate covertation from old document format to new office in all librarys?
"Word Automation Services" able to convert only Word's documents, not Excel.
The single method what I think, is to use bulk convert utility ofc.exe from Microsoft Office Migration Planning Manager with powershell's ability to get all items from all librarys from site collection.
Can someone has faced with it and has a ready work example?

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to convert all office file to the latest 2007 format.
We found this tool called MS Office Migration Planning Manager:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=13580cd7-a8bc-40ef-8281-dd2c325a5a81&DisplayLang=en#filelist
After extracting it, going to the Tools folder and modified the ofc.ini file to specify which folder to scan and convert etc.
Then running  the ofc.exe and except some files didn't convert successfully, others is ok.

  • PPTs exported from Keynote won't open in Powerpoint 12.2.8

    When I export a Keynote 09 file as a Powerpoint and then try to open it in Powerpoint 12.2.8 I get the following error message. "There was an error accessing Symbiont:Users:Symbiodin:Desktop:02EpitheliatextA.ppt This happens with all files I export as ppts, not just one. Curiously, the files will open in Powerpoint 12.2.7? Has anyone else experienced this problem? Or better yet, have a solution for it. (-;{

I also had this problem. I found, by trial and error, that an image I had in my master slides caused the issue. When I removed it, exporting to PowerPoint worked correctly.
This image had been there for a long time, and I'm not sure what was wrong with that image. It used to export fine with older versions of Keynote. Or the latest Office update broke it. I'm not sure who is at fault, as I updated both.
Anyway, that might be something to try. Either in the master slides, or one of the slides.

Will I be able to open my 2004 word docs in Lion using Pages?  How about 2004 Powerpoint using Keynote?

    KT35 wrote:
My word 2004 won't open, it says you can't open the aplication Microsoft Word because power PC applications are no longer supported". How can I get it to work?
    You can't.
The components of MS Office 2004 (which includes Word 2004) are PowerPC apps. In order to run PowerPC apps in Snow Leopard and earlier on an Intel Mac required the assistance of Rosetta software. Lion does not support Rosettta, so such apps can not be used in Lion.
In order to use your documents in Lion, you will need to -
    • update the apps to a current version, ones which do work in Lion
    • migrate the docs to other compatible apps which do run in Lion, such as Pages.

  • Export ok from Keynote 08 but file wint open i PowerPoint 08?

    Hi,
I am having problems after exporting a presentation from Keynote 08 (4.0.3)to a PowerPointfile (Office 08 fully patched). The file exports ok but wont open in PowerPoint?
Its about 50 slides and a mix of pictures and text. Is it possible to run any kind of transformation from older Keynote presentations to newer versions of Keynote.

Gee, an effectively superior Apple product ceases to work on a new version of M$ Offal. Surprise! I suppose the best solution is to just drop back and do all of your presentations in piece-of-cake-PowerPoint 2008. And you might just as well get rid of Pages & Numbers, too since there'll be problems of transfer with those, also. Maybe they'll apply one of the millions of exquisite "patches" that they're so good at. It's all Apple's fault for doing things too well.
Actually, your question was whether one could transfer from older Keynote (version?) to newer (version?) Keynote. Did you mean Keynote to Keynote, or, as an earlier reply mentioned, Keynote to earlier PP? Could you clarify?
Can't you just use your Mac and be done with it? If not, I'd personally just use Office 2001 while gritting my teeth and resist the big MS gorilla.

When I open a powerpoint presentation in Keynote I only see the first 8 slides.  Any ideas?

    Curious.
If I had this problem I would try the followinng:
open the PPt file in PowerPoint (or Open Office for Mac, which is a free and  reliable option to MS Office) save it  as a PPt file and open in Keynote
open in PPt or Open Office,  save all the slides as individual TIFF files and bring those into Keynote ( builds would not work on individual text or objects on a slide but at least you have the content)

I recently purchased a MacBook Air and was told by Apple that Keynote and Pages were compatible with MS Applications.. I have since tried to open a Powerpoint Presentation but it comes up with an error message and is not right. Help!

If there are fonts, transitions, builds, video or audio in the PowerPoint file that are not compatible with Keynote, it will either prevent the presentation opening or Keynote will substitute the settings causing playback changes.
I use Open Office to play and open any PowerPoint files sent to me, they play exactly as in PowerPoint.
Open Office is free, you can download it here:

  • Keynote is not repsonding , how do you get it to open a powerpoint that is not Keynote is not respond to. It just runs, and runs and never opens, and I have to force quit.

Keynote is not responding. When I click on Keynote Powerpoint presentation icon that is saved on my desktop, it just runs, asnd runs, and runs. I heve to force quit it. I'v never had this happen before. Never had this problem until last night when it would run and run and run. What can I do to open this powerpoint presentation?

I had this same problem as well. The original file had been converted from PPT, and it just got to a point where, while opening, the beach ball would just spin and spin and...
I followed some advice I saw posted somewhere, as follows:
    1) Delete everything that is inside of Library/Caches and also ~Library/Caches; i.e., the one is accessed through "Macintosh HD:Library:Caches" and the other, ~Library:Caches folder is accessed by going to the Finder's  "Go" menu and holding down the Option key. Delete everything inside each of these Caches folders.
    2) Restart the machine and hold down all 4 keys of Command + Option + P + R while starting up, until you hear two bell chimes. After the 2nd bell chime you can let go. This resets the parameter something or other.
Open up Keynote and open yoru file. Should work. Worked for me.

  • Keynote Saves .key files to default open with Powerpoint

I've been finding that whenever I create a new keynote file and save it somewhere, if I double click on the file it will automatically attempt to open it with powerpoint. After powerpoint opens it will obviously say it does not recognize the file. I can correctly open the file with keynote by right-clicking and manually opening with keynote.
If I open 'get info' on the file I will see that it is selected to open with powerpoint. I can open the drop down menu to change the opening option and see that powerpoint is selected but keynote is listed right below with '(default)' beside it. If I select keynote (default) and close the drop down menu it will stay as keynote and the file will correctly open with keynote all subsequent times.
However, if I click the 'change all' button below to set all files of this type to the selected option (keynote - default) then my selection automatically changes back to powerpoint in the drop down menu. It is really weird and confusing.
    Any help?

I've posted this many times & others have posted their methods more than once as well.
This is what works for me. After I installed the new iWork updates I created a folder on an external drive & named it "other applications." I then moved the new iWork apps to this folder & renamed the applications Keynote 6, Pages 5 & Numbers 3. I have icons for two versions of Pages & Numbers (I rarely use Keynote) in my Dock. Even with two versions of Pages & Numbers running, double-clicking an existing file opens in Pages 4.3 or Numbers 2.3. This should also keep the Mac App Store from nagging you to update.

  • Open powerpoint in keynote

    Hello!
After I got ios 7 on my Ipad, I couldn´t open powerpoint in keynote? Just me or do also have this problem?
When I click on the powerpoint file on the internet, I didn´t got a question about to open in keynote? Why?
    Please help me!!

A small edit before the presentation usually leads to jawdropping "how-did-you-do-this" effects.
Even if Keynote won't do anything powerpoint does, it does the most of them much better. An average PP should be no Problem converting and presenting.
But i just can repeat what you said: A small timewindow for tweaking is important. But: Even a perfect set up PP can do murky things with another PC if there are missing fonts or other things to consider...
