Office Web Applications supress excel to open in EXCEL Services (IRM)
HI ALL,
I have the following components running in my sharepoint 2013 farm
1) IRM
2) Office Web Application (OWA)
3) Excel Services [Recently added for BI features]
my excel sheets are opening using OWA and I know have to suppress it using powershell New-SPWOPISuppressionSetting to make excel sheets open using excel services.
but some of my libraries are using IRM and excel sheets are not opening using EXCEL services.
please specify what needs to be done
thanks,
Faraz Javaid
Hi,
I searched from the internet and I found that Excel Services will not load an Excel workbook that has been enabled with IRM or comes from a document library enabled with IRM.

Hi,
Is it possible to run Office Web Application Server (shows preview images for docs and allows Notepad, Word, Excel to work etc) on one of the SharePoint 2013 App Servers. I don't want to have to create a new server. It talks about setting
up a farm.
Better still how the feck do you switch this functionlity off - I always remember it being a pain in the arse. We accidentally ran the first part of the configuration on one of the SharePoint App Servers only to find out our subscription does not
have this download (bar stewards changed this Nov 2014 - just after started contract).
Help would be much appreciated as close to go live
Thanks.
John.Hi John,
Please reboot the server at the very beginning and test the issue again.
Quote from you:
Problem is I get Internet Web Page cannot display the webpage everytime I click in a excel document, powerpoint document, notebook link or the preview
Please post the url in browser address here.
If you just executed the command below:
Add-WindowsFeature Web-Server,Web-Mgmt-Tools,Web-Mgmt-Console,Web-WebServer,Web-Common-Http,Web-Default-Doc,Web-Static-Content,Web-Performance,Web-Stat-Compression,Web-Dyn-Compression,Web-Security,Web-Filtering,Web-Windows-Auth,Web-App-Dev,Web-Net-Ext45,Web-Asp-Net45,Web-ISAPI-Ext,Web-ISAPI-Filter,Web-Includes,InkandHandwritingServices
It just install some windows feature to the current server, we can find it should be done before installing several server products.
Could you please verify if the command you executed is the same as the one above?
You could also go to local disk and check if there is OfficeWebApps folder under C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\?
If you check in Control Panel > Programs, is there any feature related to Office Web Apps?
If you have confirmed there is no Office Web Apps feature installed, please go to SharePoint document library settings, and make the document to open in client, does it work?

Office Web Application PDF rendering poor quality
Hi
We have a customer using SharePoint 2013 and Office Web Application to provide PDF and WORD documents to partners. Now we ran into the problem, that all PDF are rendered in such a poor quality, that it is hard to read the PDF document, because it
is so blured. DOCX documents are also compressed, but readable. If the user downloads the PDF file, the Quality of the PDF is good.
That is how it looks in Office web application:
This is the same file downloaded and opened with the pdf client:
Is there any solution for this problem? Does Microsoft planned any update on this?
Thanks
Michael
in2brainHi Michael,
Are you using a monitor with high resolution?
Per the following information, if you are using a monitor with high resolution, the pdf rendered by OWA from browser will look blurry, as a workaround you can open PDF file using PDF client software currently.
"The Word Viewer in the WACs converts documents (including PDFs) to PNG images at 96 DPI which is likely why the users are seeing blurry text if they are viewing documents on a high DPI device/monitor (>200 DPI)."

Hi,
I follow up the book "Professional SharePoint 2013 Administration" to build the SharePoint 2013 BI include Excel Services. and created the Secure Store services to save the user SP_Install for member.
For Now, I can upload the worksheet and open it in browser, but when I tried to refresh it, the SP 2013 show error "Error occurred while accessing application id Excel services application unattended service account from secure store service".
does anybody can help ? and do I need to turn on C2WTS ?
Thanks
James LiangHi James,
Excel Services can be used with Secure Store in three primary scenarios:
Unattended Service Account
Embedded Connections
External Data Connections
If you haven't configure unattended service account yet, you could refer to the article below:

Office Web Apps returns "unable to open"
We have SharePoint 2013 with Office Web Apps 2013 SP1.
Recently, users started receiving errors after the "Word Web App" logo would present stating "unable to open". This occurred on anything (Excel Web App, etc..).

I ran Update-SPWOPIProofKey on the SharePoint Server; and it has seemed to fix it.
Trying to recall past events; in January we installed the latest Web Apps updates; and while troubleshooting this issue; I did as well; install the most recent Web Apps updates KB2956158.
We use the Remove-OfficeWebAppsMachine and subsequently New-OfficeWebAppsFarm each time we apply the updates. Our environment is stand-alone. One Exchange Server, One SharePoint Server, One Office Web Apps Server.
Any insight is appreciated.

Office Web Apps 2013 - Excel, fine, Word & Powerpoint, unable to view.
Hi All,
I am having an infuriating issue where by the following occurs when opening documents via OWA:
Excel - Preview, no problem, opening, no problem, editing, no problem (even when accessing oData connections for PWA).
Word - Preview, errors, opening, errors, editing (incredibly!!) works.
PowerPoint - Nothing works...
I think I have read every blog post on every error I am receiving in the ULS but nothing is resolving. It is on a VMware VM and I had to reinstall OWA after it was noted that it has rather surprising behaviour if OWA is not installed on the system drive.
I have installed each hotfix/update and tested after each with no joy...
Three (possibly misleading) error categories:
From OWA log:
Cannot create WOPI Proof Token - could not find valid old proof key;
From SP log:
WOPI Proof: Missing Header;
Useragent not available, file operations may not be optimized (doubt this is causing my problem but the quality of errors in the logs is so bad it may well be).
For context, the service account for OWA is local admin on the box and has full access to the content databases on the SQL server.
The symptoms of the error are the biggest concern given the degrees of success I am having with the different apps (kind of rules out security or setup if Excel works fine and Word sort of works).
Any help will be very much appreciated and may stop my increasing baldness with the amount of hair I am pulling out!!
Thanks in advance.
SamHi Sam,
According to your description, my understanding is that Office Web Apps does not work for viewing Word & PowerPoint.
For troubleshooting your issue, please access the Office Web Apps Server discovery URL to verify that the Office Web Apps Server farm is working for Word & PowerPoint:
http://servername/hosting/discovery
Also please add the OWA url into your “Trusted Sites” in IE.

Office Web App error - unable to open PDF after multiple trials
Hi, we are using Office Web App server 2013 on win server 2012 (NO Sharepoint installed) to preview files (doc, docx, pdf, xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx), OWA is set as http, wopihost
is http as well under different from HTTP80, HTTP809 application pool
File conversion if fine for small files and large files to some point - we can process same large pdf (100MB) 30-50 times, but after that there is a message
"Sorry, Word Web App ran into
a problem opening this document. To view this document please open it in Microsoft Word."
Server has plenty of free space, PerfMon
does not show spikes, no memory spikes in Process Manager. ULS logs do not provide any good info either...
No errors in event log under Applications,
System, or Microsoft Office Web Apps sections.
That error will be shown if we process
the same file. if try to process different file it works fine (again - few dozen times), but if after that I try to process first file - it shows error again.
Documents
are located on the same server as OWA installed, same machine has wopi site in non owa application pool (from Microsoft demo
- C#)
The only resolution i found is to reset
WAC server from PowerShell or restart IIS - after that it starts to process original file...
If I just recycle OWA application pools
- HTTP80, HTTP809 it does not help. (tried to change Recycling condition in IIS for those pools - it slightly improves situation but does not resolve).
I can reproduce such pattern with different file types, it just matter of number of hits.
Same error present if we use OWA and wopi on machine as https with certificate.
We use VerboseEx option for logging - no errors in ULS log files, but multiple Sync exiting
early records similar to

---------------------------------There are some paired records
Cached service list has 39 service instances before the update
Cached service lists has 39 service instances after the update
So it goes as follows: OWA processing all formats fine, after trying same 100mb pdf file 50 times (it is possible to get same error with docx, just bigger number of trials) it does not process that pdf file, but processes others.
After IIS reset it works as usual again. After trying another 100mb pdf file 50-60 times OWA stops to process that another file... We are expecting large number of hits and resetting IIS every 30min is not a good solution...
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank youHi ,
Thank you for your post.
Whether the issue occurs with different file types or only the PDF.
Based on your description, when you reset WAC server from PowerShell or restart IIS, the issue is solved temporarily.
I recommend that you check the application account, re-enter the account, then reset the IIS.

Office Web Apps: WordViewer redirects when opening in Word
I have installed Office Web Apps on a SharePoint 2010 farm and it works fine. However, when I have a Word document open in the browser and click "Open in Word" the Word Viewer control redirects the browser back to the document library. Can I somehow
configure it to stop doing that? I want it to stay on the same page.
/AndreasHi Andreas,
I think it was by design so that you only had the document open with one set of features. If you open a document in the Word desktop application, and introduce content or functionality to the document that will prevent other authors’ ability to
edit the document in Word Web App.
For example, don’t use permissions features such as editing restrictions or marking the document as final. If you want to restrict access to the document, use the permission features where the document is stored (SkyDrive, Office 365, or SharePoint).
Also, If another author saves the document with unsupported features before you have saved the document in Word Web App, you might not be able to save your work in Word Web App. If you have Word 2010, Word 2013, or Word for Mac 2011 you can prevent losing
your changes by opening the document in the Word desktop application. Click
Open in Word, copy your changes from Word Web App, and then paste them in the document in Word. When you save the document in Word, your changes are saved on the server.
That said I will send an email out to our DL to see if there is a relatively painless way to modify the behavior.

Hi,
If office web app is installed in my environment but I do not have excel calculation service running then can I open and edit excel files ?Office Web Apps 2010 supports Excel files via Excel Web Access (EWA). It only supports the XLSX file type, though (that is Office 2007 and newer). It does not support XLS, like Excel Calc Services does.

Office Web Applications Farm & Multiple Data Centres
Hi,
I noted in the following TechNet article that spanning data centres isn't recommended:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219435.aspx#topology
Stick to one data center. Servers in an Office Web Apps Server farm must be in the same data center. Don’t distribute them geographically. Generally you need only one farm, unless you have security needs that require an isolated network
that has its own Office Web Apps Server farm.
What's the rationale behind this? Is it latency and if so, what's the tipping point before latency becomes an issue?
ThanksLikely latency, but I'm not aware of any published limitations. Opening a PSS case would get those for you. Geographic dispersal is likely an unsupported scenario.

Office Web Apps Server 2013 - No download Volume Licensing Service Center
I´m looking for a office web apps server 2013 (OWS) download.
In the following blog Microsoft is announcing that the OWS is moving from the Download Center to the Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC).
http://blogs.technet.com/b/office_sustained_engineering/archive/2014/10/22/web-apps-server-removal-from-download-center.aspx
So far so good
But in my VLSC are only Updates and Service Packs for the OWS. But no download for the OWS!
Is this only my problem? Any ideas to solve this problem?Hi,
You can contact the Volume Licensing Service Center to get the answer to this case.

Hello all,
Frustrating problem: ALL Office 2010 apps require a 45 second delay to produce an "open" or "save as" dialog box when the computer is connected to a LAN (wireless or wired, domain or workgroup). When the computer is NOT connected to a LAN (wireless or wired,
domain or workgroup), then Office 2010 "open" or "save as" dialog boxes open normally (and quickly).
I suspect a network search/survey function internal to MS Office is at fault.
This is NOT the infamous mapped network drive problem associated with Office 2007/2010. There are no mapped drives (nor have there ever been) on the PC, although there might exist a related solution. Additionally, there is no 45 second delay when opening
a file by double-clicking on the file itself which will launch the application.
Other information:
1. PC runs Windows 7 Pro 32 bit - PC is a relatively new Lenovo T400 laptop, all updates from Lenovo and MS installed, running clean and nicely otherwise, no spyware, no viruses, no previous software or hardware issues requiring assistance. Event log is
clean.
2. Absolutely fresh installation of Office 2010 Pro Plus (MS Action Pack)
3. Running Office apps in safe mode does not alter problem behavior (ie, "windword.exe /a" or use CTRL key and double-click to launch app)
4. Running Windows 7 in safe mode with networking and then subsequently testing Office apps is not possible: "license not able to validate" issue. This is a known problem and is not related to the slow dialog box response behavior.
5. A desktop PC with the same MS Office 2010 installation, same volume license key, on the same network does NOT produce this problem.
6. Full uninstall, reboot, and re-install of Office 2010 does not alleviate problem
7. Disabling ALL startup items and services (including, of course, ALL Lenovo management software) does not alleviate problem
8. SMB v2 bug is not the problem: ie, disabling mrxsmb20 service does not alleviate symptoms.
9. I have isolated "Client for Microsoft Networks", "QOS Packet Scheduler", "Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver" (and Responder), and "Printer and File Sharing for MS Networks" in the network adapter properties are NOT causing the issue.
10. Using Sysinternals Registry Monitor, I was able to determine that Office apps evaluate certain properties of your Internet Explorer settings before attempting to launch the "open" or "save as" dialog box. Altering the way intranets are detected, for
example, does not alleviate the symptoms.
11. Turning off Antivirus software (Avira Personal) does not alleviate the issue.
This issue is causing a huge loss of work efficiency. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
RickHello Rick,
Through all the research I have done so far and talking with a few other coworkers what the common issues that cause this are is:
1. Antivirus: disabling the antivirus is not good enough it needs to be totaly uninstalled and retested.
2. startup programs: these need to be disabled through either Safe mode with networking or the start menu or MSconfig.
3. Office addins: Disable all of them see if that helps. Then turn them back on one by one to see which addin is causing the issue.
To disable addins: 1. open up regedit and navigate to this key. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Addins and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins
Then change the LoadBehavior to 0 this will disable the addin. 3 lets it run. Since this affected only one user HKEY_LOCAL_USER might be your best bet but don't rule out the other location.
To verify there are no addins running go to the File tab>options>Add-Ins make sure nothing is listed under Active Application Add-ins.
I hope this helps
Thanks,

Office Web Application access issue over SharePoint
Hi All,
I have installed OWA 2013 for SharePoint 2013 in a Farm and the same has been connected to the SP Farm. I'm able to access the OWA from all the SharePoint sites in the Farm, but the sites which are added to the Host header in the IIS causing this issue.
Note: All the sites are Internal and for few of the sites are IIS Host Header Mapped sites..
Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
Arun
Arun PrakashHi Arun,
Best is to use SharePoint ULS log viewer to check the root cause. Furthermore, please make sure that the host named site collections are accessible on OWA node itself.
Thanks.

Hello everyone,
I getting some error messages from my Office Web App server showing that is being accessed trough the wrong URL. I setup the server to be accessed trough HTTPS for internal and external trough
the same public domain. However there is still something making the server being accessed trough the FQN instead trough my public domain name. I also have my public domain name pointing to my Office Web App server on the DNS server. I'm able to open documents
