Office web apps crome issue

I have SharePoint 2013 integrated with office web apps. I have activated the feature Open Documents in Client Applications by Default.
If I open word document in Internet explorer it opens in client application but if I open same word document in crome it open in office web apps.

Hi Harpal,
which IE you are using ? are you using IE 64 bit version ?
if yes, try opening documents in IE 32 bit.
Let us know your results, thanks

  • SharePoint 2013 - Office web apps intermittent issue

From past few weeks we are seeing issue while opening the documents from sites error message says “Sorry something went wrong + An unexpected error occur on the Server”.  This happens with individual users accounts(Since it is
expected behavior with Service account for Office web Apps). After identifying on which server we are seeing the issue we are performing the
IIS reset on that effected Server and then issue will resolve but after a week or 10 days this is repeated again.    If anyone has seen this issue in(SP2013+OWA) please share your inputs for permanent fix.

  • Office web apps server (2013) certificate issue

If the name of the farm is different from the name of the individual office web apps server machine is there any way to deploy office web apps server with a single domain SSL certificate?
My office web apps server is working, but reporting itself unhealthy, apparently due to the fact that the SSL cert is for the name of the farm and that is different from the name of the machine.
Errors are 2004, 1004, 2156, 1156, "could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel"
Going to the farm's discovery URL in the browser works fine, but going to the machine name (plus /hosting/discovery) gives an SSL error because the name of the farm is not the same as the name of the machine.
Is there any way to make it use the farm's URL instead of the machine's URL in its own internal watchdog operations? Or any way to make it use a self signed certificate on the machine's URL for it's own health checks and still use the legitimate purchased
SSL cert for user access? Or any other way you can think of to use a $5.99/yr single domain certificate instead of a $89.99/yr multiple domain certificate?
    Bill Coulter

I am experiencing this same issue.  The OWA server has sp1 installed.  In the OWA event logs I am getting health fails for 2 events and as best I can tell it seems to be related to this issue.
We are also using a single godaddy certificate with a non machine name FQDN.  Both internal and external url's of the OWA farm are set to this same name.
The problem only seems to occur with the 'Proofing Watchdog' (See events below).
Has anyone got any update on whether this is supposed to be fixed ?

  • SharePoint 2013 Anonymous (public) site and Office Web Apps Server 2013 issue with download.aspx

Our organization has a public facing anonymous site in SharePoint 2013 which allows access to documents (docx) in a library.  ViewFormsLockdown is activated as we present the documents via CQWP / custom template.  We are combating the usual
issue of multiple login prompts when using Internet Explorer when a user accesses said document.  We also have tried  using the Word Viewer (view only mode) from Office Web Apps Server 2013 which works well, but ...
the problem stems from the fact that users can go the file menu from the word view and choose to download the document (which is what we want),  unfortunately it looks like the link redirects via /_layouts/15/download.aspx which also presents a login
prompt. Much has been written out there about doing direct links for documents via /_layouts/download.aspx to address multiple login prompts when the document is opening in word (from IE).
I've tried nearly every combination of recommendations (disabling client integration, browser file handling (permissive/strict), ViewFormsLockdown feature, web.config modifications with options and propfind verbs and more) all to varying levels of success,
but never totally getting rid of the prompt.  It has been stated that because the downloads.aspx inherits from Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.Download this will not allow anonymous access.  We really want to use the word view from the Office
web app and have the file download functionality work from the menu there ... can anyone suggest an alternate fix?  I might be wishing but will appreciate any guidance offered ...
    cheers,

The farm is having 2 WFE. There is NLB setting up for them.
AAM has been set to Default.
OWA binding set to -AllowHttp, zone set to internal-http. AllowOAuthOverHttp set to true.
The strange thing is when days ago we finish the installation, we try the link http://{server_name}/somefolder/document.docx to do the test, it works fine.
But today we try the link http://{NLB_link}/somefolder/documnet.docx, above error occur.
We are not sure whether AAM setting cause this issue or some other reaone. But even we remove the AAM to use the Server Name in link, still above issue.
    Any idea/comments would be appriciated.

What is the default AAM? Is it the server_name, or the NLB_Link? Might want to try having the NLB_Link as the primary (default) AAM if you haven't already?
Not sure if you have seen the Troubleshooting steps here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff431687(v=office.15).aspx#tshoot
it discusses use of the PowerShell command:
New-OfficeWebAppHost (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219459(v=office.15).aspx) which might be required for your NLB_Link.

  • Office Web Apps 2013 installation issue in HTTPS

    Hi,
I'm trying to install Office Web Apps Server in HTTPS mode but keep getting an error. When I run the command  New-SPWOPIBinding -ServerName owaserver, it says "WARNING: The server did not repspond. Trying again (attempt 1of 5)." When I go into Event
Viewer, I see this error for each attempt:
An operation failed because the following certificate has validation errors:
    Subject Name: CN=<url>, OU=Domain Control Validated - RapidSSL(R), OU=See
    www.rapidssl.com/resources/cps (c)12, OU=<OU>, SERIALNUMBER=<serial number>
    Issuer Name: CN=RapidSSL CA, O="GeoTrust, Inc.", C=US
    Thumbprint: <thumbprint>
    Errors:
SSL policy errors have been encountered.  Error code '0x2'..
I've installed the Root CA from the provider, registered the .cer files in CA -> Security -> Manage Trusts, and via PowerShell. I've reset IIS multiple times and rebooted the OWA server and the WFE. I'm not sure if it's an issue with the cert or a
    SharePoint issue.
    Thanks

Did you register your certificate with the New-OfficeWebAppsFarm command (-CertificateName) when you set up your Office Web Apps farm?

The output of the wfe1 server is attached with this. When I open http:// /hosting/discovery in wfe1 I’m getting following result (attached
screenshot) but it should show hostname rather than server name.
    Please help me
    Thanks, Ram Ch

    Hi  Ram ,
For  troubleshooting your issue, please take steps as below:
Just about any load balancing solution will work, including a server that runs the Web Server (IIS) role running Application Request Routing (ARR):Install
    Application Request Routing
Install the certificate on the load balancer as described under Securing Office Web Apps Server communications by using
    HTTPS.
Make sure you have configured the cluster correctly for full internet name:

  • Office Web Apps issue

Ive got an issue where Office Web Apps has stopped working if you access Sharepoint via the external url of the Sharepoint site, it works fine internally and externally from Exchange and also internally from Sharepoint.
As soon as i browse to the external url it fails with "Sorry there was a problem and we cant open this document. If this happens again try opening the document in MS Word" (Same issue with all apart from Excel which shows an IIS config page).
Ive unregistered and reregisterd OWA in Sharepoint but the same result.
It may be worth adding that at around the same time the server lads disabled SSL 3.0 on the servers, ive had them change the reg key back to enable it again and tested if it is working but it may have caused some other issue in IIS im unaware of, they also
did this on exchange but OWA is working fine on this.
The above issue happens in chrome so im asuming there is come caching going on, in IE i get
    Sorry, something went wrong
An error has occurred on the server.

  • Issue with office web apps sorry, there was a problem and we can't open this document.

    Hi All,
i am having issue when trying to open the word file using office web apps farm. i have multi-tier farm (2 wfe, 2 apps and 2 owa). is that something wrong with certificate or the way AAM configured. Can anyone give me some direction please?

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you failed to open the word file using office web app.
Please open the word file using office web app in other SharePoint sites and test whether this issue occurs. Also, please test whether all words have this issue.
Please reset IIS on the OWA server.
Please disconnect the SharePoint Farm from Office Web Apps and reconnect it. Then check the WOPIZone and TMG server.
Please created certificate for your PC and update mappings of IP addresses.

  • Office Web Apps Issue - "Sorry, something went wrong" message when opening a document (any MS docx, ppt etc) in IE. With Chrome, it pops (Microsoft Office needs your permission) message and on RUN, it opens the document.

When opening any Microsoft documents ( docx, ppt etc) in SharePoint 2013,
Internet Explorer behavior : "Sorry, something went wrong" An unexpected error has occurred message and then nothing happens.
In Chrome : Pops (Microsoft Office needs your permission) message and on clicking RUN, it opens the document.
In Firefox : the documents opens, after asking which application do you want to use to open it.
The feature (Open Documents in Client Applications by Default) is not activate.
Why the MS documents are not working in IE 10?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you failed to open Microsoft documents in SharePoint 2013.
I recommend to Run the following PowerShell in OWA Server :
Remove-OfficeWebAppsHost # To Remove any restriction
    Or
New-OfficeWebAppsHost -Domain <String> # To allow specific domain Name
In addition, you can allow OAuth via HTTP using the following commands:
    $config = (Get-SPSecurityTokenServiceConfig)
    $config.AllowOAuthOverHttp = $true
    $config.Update()

  • Office web apps server 2013 install issue

    Dear All,
when i install office web apps server in  a new server(OS:Windows Server 2008 SP1) with PowerShell Scripts it keep the installing status for more than four hours .
what should i do now ,i think it should not take such long time  as i do the same installing in the other server before which takes less than 1 hours.
    beg your suggestions!

    Hey
please take these points into your considerations:
    - OWA server can be installed on Windows server 2008 R2 or Windows server 2012
    - Log in as administrator and preferred to use domain administrator account specially to create new office web apps farm
    - run the script
    Add-WindowsFeature Web-Server,Web-Mgmt-Tools,Web-Mgmt-Console,Web-WebServer,Web-Common-Http,Web-Default-Doc,Web-Static-Content,Web-Performance,Web-Stat-Compression,Web-Dyn-Compression,Web-Security,Web-Filtering,Web-Windows-Auth,Web-App-Dev,Web-Net-Ext45,Web-Asp-Net45,Web-ISAPI-Ext,Web-ISAPI-Filter,Web-Includes,InkandHandwritingServices,NET-Framework-Features,NET-Framework-Core
It takes approximately 20 minutes :)

Both these are in office web apps farm and load balanced. Now my question is: From SharePoint Server when I connect , how should i connect while execute PowerShell command in SP server, in the syntax
–servername parameter what should I specify do I need to specify the FQDN of the server name or host name (officewebapps.jdax.corp.local, this is host record created in DNS by mapping to VIP Of the load balancer (owa1 and owa2).
    Please help me.
    Thanks, Ram Ch

You need to use URL officewebapps for parameter InternalURL
    ew-OfficeWebAppsFarm [-AllowCEIP <SwitchParameter>] [-AllowHttp <SwitchParameter>] [-AllowHttpSecureStoreConnections <SwitchParameter>] [-CacheLocation <String>] [-CacheSizeInGB <Nullable>] [-CertificateName <String>] [-ClipartEnabled <SwitchParameter>] [-Confirm [<SwitchParameter>]] [-DocumentInfoCacheSize <Nullable>] [-EditingEnabled <SwitchParameter>] [-ExcelAllowExternalData <SwitchParameter>] [-ExcelConnectionLifetime <Nullable>] [-ExcelExternalDataCacheLifetime <Nullable>] [-ExcelPrivateBytesMax <Nullable>] [-ExcelRequestDurationMax <Nullable>] [-ExcelSessionTimeout <Nullable>] [-ExcelWarnOnDataRefresh <SwitchParameter>] [-ExcelWorkbookSizeMax <Nullable>] [-ExternalURL <String>] [-FarmOU <String>] [-Force <SwitchParameter>] [-InternalURL <String>] [-LogLocation <String>] [-LogRetentionInDays <Nullable>] [-LogVerbosity <String>] [-MaxMemoryCacheSizeInMB <Nullable>] [-MaxTranslationCharacterCount <Nullable>] [-OpenFromUncEnabled <SwitchParameter>] [-OpenFromUrlEnabled <SwitchParameter>] [-OpenFromUrlThrottlingEnabled <SwitchParameter>] [-PicturePasteDisabled <SwitchParameter>] [-Proxy <String>] [-RecycleActiveProcessCount <Nullable>] [-RemovePersonalInformationFromLogs <SwitchParameter>] [-RenderingLocalCacheLocation <String>] [-SSLOffloaded <SwitchParameter>] [-TranslationEnabled <SwitchParameter>] [-TranslationServiceAddress <String>] [-TranslationServiceAppId <String>] [-WhatIf [<SwitchParameter>]]

  • Deploy office web apps issue

Missing associations to Office Web Apps options, any idea? Thanks.

To be clear, you don't have the option to assign the Office Web Apps server to the pool? Is conferencing enabled on the pool? http://www.lyncfix.com/2013/11/19/red-x-in-topology-builder-when-trying-to-enable-conferencing/

  • Office Web Apps is not working

       Hi,
We have tried to deploy Office Web Apps Server but, after a number of tests, we haven't been able to view PowerPoint presentations. We tested "everything" but it didn't work.
Finally, to simplify and focus the problem, we just deployed Office Web Apps Server "on its own", that is: just Internal URL, HTTP, Open From URL Enabled and sharing docs from a shared folder in the same server. So we have:
         \\wacserver\share\<Docs> (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
         http://wacserver
They work both "/hosting/discovery" and "/op/generate.aspx".
If we try to view Excel doc, it works. If we try to view Word or PowerPoint, id doesn't work.
For PowerPoint, it appears the PowerPoint Web Apps frame (FILE, START SLIDE SHOW, SLIDE - OF -, NOTES...) and, in the center, an animation
"PowerPoint Web App .....". After a couple of minutes, it stops with "Either you've lost network connectivity or our server is to busy to handle your request".
What we have seen from different sources:
    FIDDLER
    ======
         /op/view.aspx?... Response 200
         /p/PowerPointFrame.aspx?... Response 200
         /p/imagehandler.ashx?... Response 202
         13 petitions to /p/ppt/view.svc/jsonAnonymous/GetPresentation Response 200
    PROCESS MONITOR
    ==============
There were some folders and registry keys Network Service was trying to access with ACCESS DENIED response. We gave it permissions and they disappeared.
SYSTEM is trying to access some registry keys (SpellingWcfprovider.exe => HKU\S-1-5-18, ImagingService.exe => HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options, and 2 or 3 more). It gets an ACCESS DENIED
but SYSTEM, we have checked, has "Full control" permissions in those keys or folders.
These errors appear by Office Web Server running itself, although we are not making a PowrPoint file request.
    ULS

Several times, it tries to find the PowerPoint presentation in the caché, doesn't find it, manage to get it but, when trying to put it in the cache, it receives a disk space error:

The cache folder has enough disk size and PowerPoint.pptx file is just 30 KB.
It repeats this flow 3 times (as for the first HTTP requests).
During the 2 minutes test (until it fails) there are 14 traces like:
Failed to create process object for pid 7780 with exception System.ArgumentException: Process with an Id of 7780 is not running.     at System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcessById(Int32 processId)     at Microsoft.Office.Web.Common.RequestPipe.ProcessManager.TryGetProcessObject(Int32
    pid).
We have tried a number of things but none has worked. The farm has just one server and it says ist's unhealthy. We have Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. We have read some ways to fix the health, like HTTP Activation feature, but it only works
for Windows Server 2012 as fas as we know.
Has anybody experienced something like this or have a posible solution? Office Web Apps Server should be so easy to deploy but we have spent a lot of time with this.
Thank you very much. Your help will be very appreciated.
         Kind regards.

    Hi John,
According to your description, my understanding is that you cannot view the PowerPoint files in Office Web Apps in SharePoint.
Was there any error when you view the PowerPoint files in Office Web Apps?
You can troubleshoot the error following the link below:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff431687.aspx#tshoot
I also recommend to re-configure SharePoint to use the Office Web Apps Server to see if the issue still occurs.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff431687.aspx#ConfigureMain
    Best regards.
