Office X French Dictionary? Spelling/Grammer? Help!

I know this really doesn't belong here but I'm not finding anything on Microsoft's website and I'm wondering if someone would be able to help me out. I'm working on a French project right now and I used to be able to check spelling/grammer in French on my PC, however on my PowerBook I'm finding it difficult to figure out how to find that add-on or switch into that mode. Does anyone have the add-on and could send it to me? I can't find anything for it anywhere on microsoft's site! Thank you very much!

Fine.
I could find 13 files for French Dictionary, Grammer, Thesaurus etc. in "Office X/Shared Applications/Correction Helpers (?)" (the path is transalted from German, not sure about the correct English spelling).
What do you find there? Are you sure that you have installed all components from the install CD?
Anyhow, provide your email address, I will attach all 13 (7.4 MB, zipped 3.9) and mail them to you. I hope that they would work with your English version.

  • French dictionary

I have seen other posts about this but no solution. I have a French document and wish to check the spelling. I go to the Inspector/text/language and select French. Then, I go back to my document and select "check spelling" and that French language in the Inspector goes back to English. Do I have to set French as my default language in System Preferences? I don't want to do that. Or, as I often do, am I missing something obvious? Thanks for any help.

I had effectively the same thing as I couldn't make my dictionary stay in 'British English'. What I found in the end was that there are a number of attributes which get embedded in paragraph styles and dictionary is one of them.
There's not anywhere to check all the attributes of any given style, but if your little triangles turn red and you can't work out why, it's probably because you've changed something somewhere and you're being invited to accept or reject is as a change to a style.
Obviously the 'select all and switch to French dictionary' works, but you may find it reverts if you start typing new text in your default style, so you may want to save a new style called 'French text' or something similar with the French dictionary choice embedded.
    Does this make any sense?

  • Is there a French dictionary to download for OS X?

I've read in some places that there is a downloadable French dictionary available on Apple website. Is it right?

Do you mean a dictionary for spelling? Or a dictionary for looking up words?
The Mac has included a French spelling dictionary for many years. Just go to Edit > Spelling and Grammar  and set your language to be French.
If you are looking for a French equivalent of the New Oxford dictionary in Dictionary.app, then there is nothng comparable. I put together a French dictionary using the 1935 Dictionnaire de l'Académie Française. You can download it from: http://etresoft.com/etreref
Unfortunately, no commerical dictionary publisher with a modern corpus has published anything for Dictionary.app.
Disclaimer: Although EtreRef is free, there are other links on my site that could give me some form of compensation, financial or otherwise.

  • Need integrated French dictionary function

How does one activate, or add a dictionary function for spellchecking for foriegn languages?
    In particular;
need to have MAIL, Word, and other apps be able to access French dictionary capabilities for spellchecker when using the French keyboard setting.
    Thanks for all suggestions.

Most Apple apps: Edit > Spelling > Spelling > Dictionary
Pages: Inspector > Text > More > Language
Word: It uses its own spellchecking stuff. If you can't find it, you can try the MS forums:

  • French dictionary and other dictionaries

Are they available to download from somewhere? I just want a decent french dictionary.

".lproj folders contain the localization files for the menus and dialogues for the particular app, not dictionaries. "
Ahh, ok, that clears that up. What I was referring to there were possible language files inside the Dictionary application resources files.
But you've actually hit the nail on the head, what was really looking for were language options for spelling & grammar correction. I'd assumed these were associated with the Dictionary application.
Which spell checking system are you referring to? there are no relevant options under Edit in the Dictionary, nothing under the Finder and nothing in the System Prefs. What I'm looking for are global settings for Spelling & Grammar, not application specific. i.e. I have English as the base OS language but I frequently write in Swedish. I'd like automatic spelling and grammar correction wherever I type, in both English and Swedish, without having to configure every application.
For example, if I type Swedish here then all the words are underlined in red as not recognised. There is no option in Safari to add Swedish spelling and grammar correction, it takes English as the default since that is the OS language.

  • How can I have a FRENCH dictionary in Leopard?

I wrote french text, so I would need a french dictionary. How can I add a french dictionary to the Dictionary application?

You can't. However there is a Dictionary Development Kit in the Leopard XCode Tools, so one might be available in the future if someone produces it.
If you are talking about spell checking, Dictionary.app is not involved. Just go to Edit > Spelling and Grammar and there is a place to change the dictionary.

Have you tried signing out of your iTunes & App Store on your device and then back in again - Settings>iTunes & App Store, click on Apple ID, then on Sign Out. Then sign in again and see if it accepts the password.
If that doesn't resolve the issue,  try resetting your device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the reset is complete, the Slide to Unlock screen will display. See if the problem is resolved.

  • SharePoint 2013 Newsfeeds are not same as Office 365 Newsfeeds, why? need help!

Has Distributed Cache service been started in the machine SharePoint is running on? If not, it must be started before it provisions feeds. The following steps to start Distributed Cache service:
Open Central Administration, click Application Management category.
In Service Application section, click Manage Services on Server.
On the Services on Server page, start Distributed Cache service.
    Or use PowerShell script:
    $instanceName ="SPDistributedCacheService Name=AppFabricCachingService"
    $serviceInstance = Get-SPServiceInstance | ? {($_.service.tostring()) -eq $instanceName -and ($_.server.name) -eq $env:computername}
    $serviceInstance.Provision()
As far as I know feeds rely on
Distributed Cache to store data for very fast retrieval across all entities.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I activate a French dictionary in Safari?

I love how double tapping on a word with three fingers in Safari brings up a dictionary definition. Is there any way I can get it to search a French dictionary as well as an English one? I suppose just a French one is as good.

You must install the Translate extension (v. 1.0.5). Go to Preferences->Extensions, and pull down Get Extensions.

  • Is there a French dictionary for iPad 2

Is there a French dictionary for iPad 2

There are several iOS French dictionary apps. I have the Collins English<-->French dictionary on my iPhone, which also works on the iPad. There is also one by Ultralingua which is well reviewed. Just do a search in the App Store to find one that looks like it would work for you. Bear

Sorry, but you cannot use a UK iTunes card in any country other than the UK. Sell or give the card to someone in the UK and buy a French prepaid card.

You must be using an update CD.  You need the software that has the full version first - install that, then you can use the update one if needed. I know, cuz I made the same mistake - lol

  • Has anyone else found Apple's Pages to have a really bad spelling/grammer check?

I am an Mac user of less than a year and have been very annoyed with Apple's Pages as I have used WIndows Microsoft Office for all of my ife. I have found numerous words misspelled, but not marked with a red line. I also think the green underlining for things such as "informal writing" or "jagon" to be unneccessary. Does anyone have the same problems? Does anyone know if Apple is doing anything about it?

Proofreading (grammar check) and Spelling check are separate functions, with separate on-off switches. You'll find them in the Edit menu"
The spelling switch is in the submenu immediately above this one. Selecting the item toggles the item between 'checked' (on) to 'unchecked' (off).
Accepting spelling as 'correct' requires only that the word is included in the spelling dictionary. If you see errors that the spell check does not mark, then the error might be of the type "there" used for "their", "soul" for "sole" or similar. Or it could mean your system language (and consequently, your spelling dictionary) is set to a language other than the one in which you see the spellings as correct. Or it could mean that you or someone else using your machine saw a word marked as incorrect and told the spell check to 'learn' that word. Once learned, that string of letters will be recognized as 'correct' until the spell check is told to 'unlearn' it.
    Regards,
    Barry
