how can i get my hp office jet 4500 g-510-g-m to shut off when my computer shuts down. i manually turn it off but some times forget
Hello Caddilacman,
I understand you want to have the printer to shut off when you turn the computer off.
Well I checked out the manual for your printer and I didn't see the option listed there, so I consulted with a printer expert and they explained to me this printer doesn't have that function. So you would have to manually shut it off with power button the way you’re doing it now.
Here is the link for the user guide for the printer to show any other questions that you might have.

for some reason the fax keeps saying no answer when the person on the other end says they are receiving faxes, then there is a NOTE: Image on fax send report is set to off
an image of page 1 will appear here for faxes that are sent as scan and fax...also should it be set to tone or pulse dialing..
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hey @caramia333,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with resolving the fax issues that you're experiencing with your HP Officejet 4500 All-in-One Printer. The sending issues that you're experiencing may be due to static noise interference on your fax line. Faxing is old analog technology. Nowadays phone companies use digital lines. Digital lines are OK to use but there is much more static noise interference on the phone lines and the transfer rate on the line is much faster. If your fax machine detects any static noise on the line the fax may fail due to a communication error. Also, the faster transmission rate can cause bits of fax data to be lost. This loss of fax data can cause fax communication failures or incomplete faxes. I will walk you through adjusting a couple of settings on your HP Officejet to account for some interference on the phone line. If your faxes are still experiencing issues to 1 specific number there may be a setting that needs to be adjusted on the receiving end fax machine. Please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Turn OFF Error Correction Mode:
Select the Setup (wrench) button on the front panel of your printer
Right arrow to Fax Settings and select OK
Right arrow to Error Correction Mode and select OK
Turn Error Correction Mode OFF and select OK
Step 2: Slow Down Fax Speed:
Select the Setup (wrench) button on the front panel of your printer
Right arrow to Fax Settings and select OK
Right arrow to Fax Speed and select OK
Turn Fax Speed to Slow and select OK
Step 3: Turn ON Image on Fax Send Report:
Select the Setup (wrench) button again
Right arrow to Print Report and select OK
Right arrow to Image on Fax Send Report and select OK
Turn the Image on Fax Send Report to ON and select OK
Step 4: Check Tone or Pulse Dialing:
Select the Setup (wrench) button
Right arrow to Fax Settings and select OK
Right arrow to Tone or Pulse and select OK
Ensure that Tone Dialing is selected
Now that the settings have been adjusted please try faxing again to verify if the issue has been resolved.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Best of luck!

New Officejet 4500 will not connect wirelessly
We just got a new Officejet 4500 that I began to set up last night. First I followed the recommended setup path for setting it up wirelessly: USB connection to my MacBook Pro, install the software, use the setup wizard, etc. It chugged away for a while and eventually I got back a bunch of errors "Failed to retrieve IP".
I have a wireless hub provided by my ISP which I have set up with WEP (no Mac filtering, no special firewall within the home network). After googling around for a while I decided to switch to WPA personal. I got my MacBook working with that, then tried the printer wireless setup wizard again. No go, same errors.
Next I tried setting it up (still with WPA) directly on the printer using it's menus. This also didn't work. The printer printed out a Wireless Network Test Report which looked like this in the Diagnostics Summary:
Wireless On: PASS
Wireless Working: PASS
Network Name (SSID) Found: PASS
Security: PASS
Printer Settings Consistent with Wireless Router Settings: PASS
No Filtering: FAIL
Connected: Not Run
Signal Strength: Very Low
Other networks detected matching your network name (SSID): No
Downlink count: 2
Channel: Not Run
I also switch back to WEP and reran the setup via the printer menus, and failed the same way and got the exact same diagnostic summary.
What now?Hello-
If you have a Officejet 4500 G510g , the printer is not wireless. You can use an ehternet cable and do a network install. That way any device that is wireless can use it as long as your on the same network.
The OJ 4500 G510n is wireless.

HP Officejet 4500 will print but won't scan - MAC OS 10.6.8
Hi
We've been using our HP Officejet 4500 for about 3 years with mostly no issues. Recently, we were having some issues. We uninstalled the software and then used Apple Software Update to reinstall. Now the printer works perfectly for printing wirelessly. But scanning is not even an option. I cannot scan from the control panel on the printer. When I go into system preferences, the little printer icon says "Print & Fax", not "Print & Scan" and there is no scanner option to be found once I am in "Print & Fax". I used to have an HP Scan program on my Mac that I could open and scan from there but now that is gone. The HP website tells me to simply use Apple Software Update for drivers and software. Apple Software Update tells me I have everything I need. I have performed "Repair Disk Utility", rebooted, deleted the printer and added it again.
Please help. Thanks.Hello @Yakbihn ,
Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you are having problems scanning with your officejet 4500.
I would like to help.
HP Scan software is not available through Apple Software Update (ASU) for some HP Multifunction Printers.
And as you and I know, The Drivers are not available on HP.com.
There are still ways for you to scan.
The links below are for a laserjet and the other 10.9
The steps will be the same.

Officejet 4500 will not print black ink
Our small office has had an Officejet 4500 for a few months now with no problems. Today it has ceased printing any black ink.
-I have changed the cartridge to be sure, though at no point has it said low ink. This fixed the problem for a few pages but the problem popped back up. I did align the cartridges after installing the new cartridge.
-I have tried cleaning the contacts on the cartridge itself.
-The scanning function still functions and color ink can be printed.
-Overall printing does seem slower, regardless of the black ink issue. Not sure if related.
-The all in one has been used more frequently in the past few weeks.
This question was solved.

I am experience the same problems on two printers. On my 4500, the black ink doesn't print. The cartridge is more than half full, the heads have been cleaned, the alignment completed. Also, I am experience the exact same issue on a Officejet 6500 with the magenta cartridge. In both cases, it was working...and then it wasn't. [snip]
For the Officejet 6500 you might try the soak procedure described here.

Ihave an HP Pavilion running Windows 7 Home Premium and an HP Officejet 4500 510g all-in-one. I suddenly cannot scan from the Solution Center or from the front panel of my printer. The Solution Center first gave me an error:
8,[(8,101,0)]. I rebooted computer and tried again, and it scanned a third of a page and froze. I downloaded the new HP Print and Scan Doctor and ran it. It showed an error when scanning the drivers(no error number). It instructed me to unplug printer power, plug it back in, reboot computer and try again.Upon doing so it , the scan doctor came back with another error and said it could not fix the issue and showed me a link to HP Support. Clicked on the link and it was the Driver downloads page. I downloaded the full driver, but have not installed it yet. First, I'd like to know if, since i have the original disc that came with the printer, should i install from the disc, or install the downloaded driver? (Both have the same date of release on them). Are they different somehow? Is one better than the other? Secondly, I'd like to know if i need to uninstall any software or drivers before i install the new one? Or will the new one just overwrite and "fix" the bad one? Thanks in advance for your help. I really appreciate it!
P.S. If i do need to uninstall anything, Please tell me exactly what to uninstall. Thanks!Hello BLKFEATHER, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing scan issues. I would like to help.
I would suggest Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once it is uninstalled, I would suggest putting your system into clean boot mode within the Microsoft configuration. You can do so by following this document: How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
Once the computer is in clean boot mode, I would suggest reinstalling the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

OfficeJet 4500 will not print two sided over network
I'm running on Windows 7 with an OfficeJet 4500 G510n-z over WiFi. Printer works great except that it will not print two sided. We've used a non-WiFi 4500 to print two sided before. With the new printer the first pages print and the pop-up shows on the laptop (prompt to flip paper over) but nothing happens. The second pages never print.
I've run all of the HP print and network diagnostics. Everything appears to be OK.The solution below was found on the sticky post at the top of this board "Fixes and Workarounds from HP"
I think the patch below only applies if you have the original printer software installed, I assume this issue was fixed in later versions of the printer software, Read the patch information carefully.

Driver for Officejet 4500 Wireless all-in-one will not install after upgrading to Windows 8.1
Upgraded to Windows 8.1 on Pavilion g6. Officejet 4500 Wireless all-in-one still prints but won't scan. Downloaded full feature driver. Installation quit giving error message 'file cannot be found'. Tried 'chat' sessions with no resolution
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hello bob5e,
I am sorry to hear that you are unable to install successfully on your Windows 8.1 with your Officejet 4500 Wireless. I can see that the installation quits on you, giving you an error message. I am going to recommend trying a couple of things to hopefully make the installation successful.
1. First of all, try installing by using The Printer Install Wizard for Windows which finds the correct driver for your unit and installs it.
2. If that does not work, please try this next troubleshooting document step by step.
Installation issues - The Progress Bar on the Software Installation Stops or Stalls
I hope this helps!

HP Officejet 4500 All-in-One Printer - G510g installation windows 8.1 64bit
After operating a HP Officejet 4500 All-in-One Printer - G510g from both an old Windows XP notebook and from an ASUS Windows 8, 64bit laptop, subsequently updated to 8.1; I'm now trying to install it to run from a Toshiba Satellite NB10T-A notebook Windows 8.1 64bit, but without success.
The original installation CD does not provide an installation but on start up (presumably because it is only compatible with Windows XP and 7.
The www.hp.com site offers a download of a full driver for the printer, forWindows 8.162bit. This seems to download fine. The file unpacks, says it is installing, but on completion the driver is not available.
There are no options to uninstall, either in control panel/printers or in control panel/software.
Without the driver, the Windows 8.1 system recognises the printer and allows simple printing ffrom applications. However, it is not possible to use the scan options, giving the error message that the driver is not available. Neither HP Solution Center or HP Document Manager are installed.
I have tried HP Print and Scan Doctor. This recognises the printer on USB link, says that there are missing drivers, downloads, unpacks and installs drivers. But the printer icon in control panel/printers continues to have an alarm icon and indicates that the printer is still missing drivers.
I have also tried the HP Printer Installation Wizard. The result is similar.
Please advise how I can install the scan options of this equipment and confirm that the machine is compatible with windows 8.1 64bit.
Thank you
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hello @monc , welcome to the HP forums!
I read through your post about how you cannot scan on your Windows 8.1 computer as the driver and software doesn't seem to be completing successfully on your system. However, you have been able to install the printer and its functioning fine on other computers.
I would suggest checking the Control Panel to see if there are any printer files to uninstall: Uninstalling the Printer Software
Restart the PC afterwards
Perform a Clean Boot
Restart the PC again
Download and install the printer again: HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver
If you see any error messages or codes during the installation process, make note of the exact problem or error and post me back a screen shot or the details.
Good luck

HP Officejet 4500 Ethernet / Wifi Driver Problem (blank fields) with Office 2013
Hi,
I have an Officejet 4500 (Ethernet) and I have exactly the same problem as lots and lots of HP Printer owners!
Everytime I try to print on Office 2013 + Win 8 64-bit, the Printer window comes with strange "Asiatic" symbols, and not the original language (Portuguese or English, I tried both). (Note: my father has exactly the same printer I have and he already had some problems also on Win 7 + Office 2010, then I deleted all HP drivers, installed again and it solved the problem)
I already tried the menus you people talk about but in my model I do not have such options. I already installed everything again and again...and always the same problem! With another printer from another company I have no problems with the drivers on Office, so it must be from HP Drivers that do not get along with Office 2013!!! Please update them as soon as possible...Hello DaveZiffer,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue since the installation of the Office program.
Here is a link that will take you to the 4 updates that are available for your printer.
After doing the updates, if you are still having issues, please feel free to write me back and I will be happy to research this issue further.
