Officejet 4620

I received an email regarding following:
Routine Alert for your HP Officejet J4500/J4600 All-in-One Printer series‏; with sub links to HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver (ver 14.8.0), HP Officejet Basic Print and Scan Driver (ver 13.0.0), and HP Officejet Software and Driver Removal Utility (ver 13.0.0).  I do not know if this is something I definitely need to follow through with. I do have issues with this printer and have for a long time. When I read through the details of these links, it sounded very complicated, especially the Driver Removal Utility. Instructions said to run this utility 4 times.   Should I attempt to perform this driver removal utility and then install one of the two driver downloads? How do I know which one to download and install, the full feature or the basic print & scan? Are these the updated newest drivers that I should have downloaded for my printer? If so, does this mean that my original disc is no longer current and should not be used anymore?   I appreciate any guidance or answers concerning the above tremendously.   Thank you   Sandra Barrientos

Hi Sandra,
The alert is irrelevant to your current Officejet 4620 printer.
I assume you previously had an HP Officejet J4580 / J4660 / J4680 printer which was not Uninstalled? check if a such exists under Start > Programs > HP or under the Control Panel > Uninstall a Program.
Please clarify what exact issues you experience with the Officejet 4620 printer, as well be sure to clarify what operating system you are using, as well as how the printer is connected to your PC - through a USB or through the Wireless network?
Say thanks by clicking the Kudos thumb up in the post.

This is a new printer purchased in 2014 hp officejet 4620 series doesn't display on my windows 8.1 to connect to scan.It does detect in HP AIO Remote app in windows 8.1 as seen on left but when i click on scan there it open hp scan and capture app and says unable to contact device as shown on right. I do restart my printer and PC at those times but sometimes also restart my wireless router. my internet has high speed  of 115Mbps with Comcast. There is no problem with the internet provider problem should be with the printer it doesn't show up wirelessly in the laptop or else problem should be with the hp scan and capture app for not detecting the printer either way i didn't get any solution. This is always the same problem i face daily. Someone please do help in solving this its so frustrating when the device doesn't get detected to print and scan.

    Hi @reshmi,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I am sorry to hear about your frustration you are having with your HP Officejet 4620 not being able to scan on Windows 8.1. But I am happy to help you with this issue!
Are you able to make copies with your printer? (This way we know the hardware is functioning properly.)
I would recommend the following guides:
A 'No Computer Detected' or 'Connection Error' Message Displays When Scanning for HP Officejet 4610 ....
Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.
(Even though the guide titles may not match your issue, I believe the solutions will help.)
To verify if this is an issue with your HP Scan and Capture app, please try one of the alternate methods of scanning in this how to scan guide, Scan from Windows 8 With the Full Feature HP Software for HP Multifunction Printers. Select How to scan without HP software, and let me know if one of those methods work for scanning or not.

  • OfficeJet 4620 regularly loses connection with HP drivers - but is still connected to network

    Hello,
I recommended an HP OfficeJet 4620 printer for my parents a few months ago. I'm about to leave for a new job and want to make sure it's working properly before I do. Their home network uses a Motorola SBG6580 cable modem as a WAP, but the following problems have also been observed when using other routers. There are at least four computers hard-wired to the network (Windows 7/8).
The printer has been configured to connect to the wireless network, with excellent signal strength and a DHCP lease of 192.168.1.17 - a static IP configuration with no lease has also been tried, it doesn't seem to help at all. The printer's webserver is always accessible at this IP address, and the printer's LCD screen always reports that it is connected.
When using the latest official HP drivers to communicate with the printer (whether 'full featured' or 'driver only'), all functionality is available - scanning, printing, retrieving ink level, etc. - for at least a few hours. After a day or two, perhaps after the printer enters standby/low-power mode, or after an incoming phone call (i.e., potential fax) the printer connection is no longer available. The exact error message given by HP Printer Assistant is 'the computer is unable to establish two-way communication with the device'. Print requests go unfulfilled, the scan-to-computer service goes offline, and so on. However, when the HP driver is uninstalled and the Windows 8 OEM driver for this printer (as provided by Windows Update) is used, printing always works. Manually power-cycling the printer and resetting the IP address used by the HP driver can fix this problem and allow printing/scanning to resume, but only for a limited amount of time.
The following troubleshooting steps have already been tried:
    - Configure printer to use a static IP/gateway/etc. - doesn't really matter, the printer is always connected at the same IP
    - Power-cycle router, reset router to factory defaults, use different router - no effect
    - Restarting clients, or HP services, etc. - no effect
    - Connect printer via USB to each client and use 'Convert to Wireless' afterward - doesn't really do anything useful
    - HP Print and Scan Doctor - doesn't report any problems when successfully connected, and isn't helpful at all when it isn't
    - Move printer closer to WAP - signal strength is excellent, there's no other interference and the printer webserver is always accessible with no problems
    - Disable firewalls, etc. - no effect
    - Firmware / driver updates - everything is already up-to-date
The following actions are not acceptable solutions to the problem:
    - Connect printer via USB and use SMB/HomeGroup to share it
    - Use only the Windows 8 OEM driver (no scanning functionality, and driver doesn't show up in Windows Update for Win7)
If I can't resolve this problem, they will likely return the printer as defective to the retailer and buy a different brand instead.
    Thanks for your time.

    Hi,
When connecting to your network via the computer, insure you set sharing to enabled. Turning off sharing when connecting to your network in Win 8 can sometimes cause a disconnect

  • Hp officejet 4620 suddenly won't scan to my mac

    Hi All.
My HP Officejet 4620 has suddenly decided that it will longer scan my documents from the scanner to my mac.
I have tried everything, I've downloaded the lastest drivers from HP, checked my mac has had all the latest downloads,  I believe my scanner is supported.
But,  it just will not do it anymore.
This is a very new propblem because I scanned documents about 2 weeks ago with no problems.
Now I just get the message that my scanner is  IDLE.
I've gone into utilities and the message on that is   Scan to computer cannot be enabled.
Any Ideas anyone i'm getting really fed up with this now. It seems everytime either Apple or HP upgrades,  things start to go wrong or things just stop working alltogether.
I don't know what to try next.  I do not want to buy a new printer/scanner the one I have now is only 6 months old, besides that would turn out a very expensive hobby if we all had to keep doing that.
    Help !!!! Please.
    Thanks.
    Tricia.

    Hi All.
I have found a way around it by following a suggestion from robb92014
I used preview and scanned a document,  downloaded it as a pdf.
And it worked!! Thank you Robb92014
Just have to do it this way until HP come up with a solution.

  • Officejet 4620 prints from HP Printer Assistant but shows as offline for normal print jobs

I just purchased an Officejet 4620 to use wirelessly on our home network -- we have two Thinkpads running  Windows 7 64-bit.  I followed the installation instructions and successfully printed out test pages using both the Printer Properties page in Windows and the HP Printer Assistant (which, by the way, shows that the printer is online and ready).  However, when I try to print from any other program (Word, Chrome, etc.), after a moment or two I get an error message saying the printer is offline and asking if I want to cancel the print job.  Yet when I check the online status, it again shows that it is online and I can, again, successfully print a test page.
What could possibly be causing this?  It makes no sense to me.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

    Hi oyfpro,
The Xfinity router may need some tweaking.
Login to your router using the provided instructions by Xfinity and navigate to the wireless settings.
Change the channel to 11 or something less crowded.
Change the network encryption to WPA2 as it is the most secure and most reliable.
Last but not least, update the firmware on the Xfinity router to make sure it's fully up to date with everything.
    Thanks.

  • HP Officejet 4620 All-in-One Loses Connection to Wireless Network When It Goes Into Sleep Mode

My HP 4620 All-In-One wireless printer works fine until it goes into sleep mode.  Once it goes into sleep mode, it doesn't wake up if a print job is sent to it.  If I wake it up manually by pressing the blinking on/off button, it still doesn't print.  If I completely turn it off and then on again, the print job that was queued on my computer will start printing, but that's a huge pain and waste of time nearly every time I want to print.  I've installed all available updates.  I also assigned a static IP address in an effort to correct this but nothing helps.  I see that others have complained about this problem, but I do not see that anyone has had success resolving this.  My operating system is Windows Vista.  I use a Link-Sys Wireless G Router.  Thanks.

so I have called HP tech support 12 times over the last 6 weeks and still my HP Officejet 4620 loses connection overnight. Of course becasue it was a birthday present I spent more time than I normally would have on this issue. While the tech are very polite they have not fixed my problem and now it is too late to return printer to store. This is a lot of money wasted and I think they need to admit this is a bug in this printer and resolve the problem!!!!!

  • I can't print scan or fax from my HP OFFICEJET 4620 on the microsoft 8.1 operating system

Help! I am getting the error message scanner unreachable when trying to print or fax continue to get error messages. The disk included with the printer is not campatible with the 8.1operating system. I went to HP for a driver to fix this problem but Hp had an  an error message on their website. Thank you

     Hi @Nannu ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Officejet 4620 Printer and loading the drivers for Windows 8.1. Here is a link to the HP Print and Scan Doctor. The HP Print and Scan Doctor will run a check on your system and check your printer.
Are you able to make a copy on the Printer?
Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet.  Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to set up "receive fax" HP Officejet 4620/have modem and router and landline?

I have a need to receive faxes now on my HP Officejet 4620, but don't want to print an entire manual right now.
I have it set up successfully to send faxes for a year or so now, but don't have a clue what I am doing wrong/ I have sensitive government documents that are being sent and I didn't hear or see any fax come through.
Do I need to change something with the hookup?
Also, I didn't understand if I have to set for wireless or not since I have a router but don't use it much, only when I want to rarely use my apple ipad.
    Thank you ahead of time,

I purchased a new hp Officejet 4620 wireless printer about 10 days ago.  I followed the directions with installing it and it worked great.  I did not use it until yesterday.  I was not able to print from the wireless printer.  How do I correct this issue?

  • HP Officejet 4620 Not printing black ink

I just installed a new, genuine hp black cartridge.  It is seated and vented properly.  I have run "clean printhead", and it shows a full black in cartridge.  The printer will print other colors but it will not print black ink.

    Hi Zagsmith,

  • HP Officejet 4620 e-All-in-One Printer

My black ink has stopped printing all together and the cartridge reads half full. I have tried cleaning & aligning the print heads. The first page only gives the color blocks at the bottom. The 2nd level cleaning gives the blocks and very bad black type.
I have had this problem in the past and had to get another printer. The owner told me if we can't fix it this time I am to NEVER get another HP. He is very dissatisfied as we are a printing co and use this printer for proofs & billing.

    Hi @DoniniNC
I'm sorry to hear that your Officejet 4620 hasn't been printing black ink, but I will certainly do my best to lend a hand
I will recommend that you follow through the steps in this Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages document. If that doesn't resolve your issue please let me know which country you're located in and whether the printer is in or out of warranty, thanks!

  • HP Officejet 4620 won't scan to Mac with OSX 10.10

After upgrading to OSX Yosemite, I've had a series of problems with my MacBook being able to find my printer.  I've deleted the printer, reinstalled, cycled the router, updated, emptied the cache - you name it.  Now, my MacBook sees the printer for printing but won't communicate for scanning.  Help?

Hi there @BillSpohn , welcome to the HP Community,
I read your message about your scanning troubles and have a few steps in mind for you that should work. Please try these steps in order that I have posted them in. Make sure the printer will produce copies successfully before any software troubleshooting, which will test the printers hardware to ensure the printer is in good functioning order first.

    Repair disk permissions
    Restart the Mac
Download and install the Full Driver here: HP Officejet 4620 series Full Feature Software and Drivers

Welcome to the HP Forums Roberta831,
I read your post, which indicates that you are unable to change the dpi for scanning.
I can help you with this.
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. The Airprint driver might be installed instead of the Printer's driver. (usually defaults to Airprint)
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen should show the name.
If the printer name shows Airprint then that is the Apple drivers, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
