Officejet 4636 Issues

I have two major issues with  new Officejet 4636 e-All-In-One Printer that i bought recently. Installed full HP feature via CD provided.
Paper Mismatch - The first plain paper always get mismatch error message all for printing and copying jobs no matter what how many time of printing and copying. The printer apparently only can recognise second paper (which i need to cancel the first job) which is very ignoring and disapointing for new printer. I have checked the paper and printer setting, all settings are correct.
Copy Problem  - Only 10% or 20% of page is copied and printed out for the copy jobs (more than 10 times i tried). I have managed to scan the whole paper using tray and flatbed but not for copy.  Using HP Network Configuration Page as input, this is what i get (See Image Below). Another disapointment.

Hello @winson01 , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand from your post that you're having issues copying, as well as paper mismatch errors. I'd be happy to help!
I would recommend removing the ink cartridges from the printer, and perform a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also recommend plugging the printer power into a different wall outlet.
I'd suggest running the firmware updates for your printer as well:

    Hi gmdf,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with the printer not printing off the first page of a multiple page document.
I do have a few suggestions that we can try.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
Use the ON/OFF button on the printer to do a proper power cycle after it has been connected to a wall outlet.  This will do a Semi Power Reset on the printer.
If you are still having an issue, try the HP Print and Scan Doctor.  Let me know if you see any error codes or messages.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Officejet 6500a issues

    Hi all;
I'm having an issue with my OfficeJet 6500a printer. I am using it in wireless mode and last week the LCD and all lights were blinking telling me to power off then power on. I did that. Since then after printing about 2-3 pages, the 3rd+ page the printer drops off the network. Ping -t printeraddress shows that. The 3+ pages takes  a long time to finally print (as printer randomly comes back onto the network with a 3second + ping time.
I've not been able to resolve this yet, I've not tried a LAN connection but have tried resetting to factory defaults via the lcd software. I am using a linksys e3000 wireless router and have tried DD-WRT as well as the stock firmware, neither work. All other wireless devices work fine.
    My questions are:
    1. Is there a way to HARD reset this printer like you can the 6500? #9 doesn't work.
    2. Anyone else seeing this issue?

I bought the 6500 E710n-z in January 2011 and have very similar problem ever since.  But the results depend upon the document type.  Printing a single page pdf file (~10Mb) prints wirelessly within 1 minute from a Dell Dimension 4700 desktop running XP through a wireless card.  Wireless router is a Linksys E3000.  Printing an XL file with 20 lines of data takes less than a minute which is about the same for a Word file with only 2 sentences.  But when I insert a picture or web photo into either a word doc or XL, it might print or it might just transition to printing characters.  If it does print, it takes over 2 minutes.  Why would a pdf print faster even though the file is larger?
Another strange thing is when I cancel a print job after waiting 3 minutes, it actually does not cancel it.  I can cancel a print job from the printer icon that appears after starting the print job but it finishes the page almost 30 seconds later anyway.  It seems that the desktop is not really communicating effectively to the printer.  This happened after cancelling 2 print jobs in a row, waiting for the job to cancel before trying to print the next job.
I have run the HP Wireless Network Test Report dozens of times with everything checking out okay.  I have been through all the "help" tutorials with not success.  I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers 2 or 3 times on the desktop.  I have 3 laptops with the same problem...Vaio, Dell, Gateway.  The Vaio runs Windows 7  and the others run XP.  I have uninstalled  and reinstalled the drivers for a couple of those too but still have either very long print times or failure to print.
This thing would make a better boat anchor than a printer for what I paid for it.  This is the last time I buy an HP or consult Consumer Reports for electronics again.  There must be some money going under the table when a printer costs this much, CR recommends it, and it has this many problems.

  • Officejet 8000 issues

    Guys,
Have just bought an Officejet 8000 wireless. I have successfully installed it as a network printer using the corporate basic print driver - After trying the one on the CD first.
The problem that I'm having is that in some programs it will not print and others it takes a long long time to do so. For example in Word, you send a print job to it and it'll sit there in the print queue saying spooling. Also, if it was not your default printer and you went in to File>Print and attempt to change it to that printer it sits there for ages.
I've tried it wired and wireless and nothing seems to do it... I've not tried it via USB as that is not what we require it to be.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Ash.

You really want to use the Full Featured software for wireless printing.  You can choose English only to cut down on the size.  I don' know what OS you are using or I would point you right there.

hp 6310 printer is out of warranty and they wont help with problem

I am having the same problem w/ my officejet 4500 G510n-z. To the best of my knowledge the problem started this weekend. I am experiencing the problem on my PC computer and an HP laptop both are running windows XP, both are connected by wireless access. Both have printed wirelessly for the past 4 months.
Both have automatic windows updates turned on. I noticed that there was an update on 9-15-2010 to windows that included several updates.  The PC is able to print from Word but not from the internet, the HP laptop cannot print from any program. Please fix this problem.

  • Scanning always produces invalid PDF files

I recently purchased an HP OfficeJet 4636, and I notice that when scanning documents to PDF, the generated PDF files are always invalid. When opening these files in Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Pro, one gets the message "The file is damaged but is being repaired." Many other PDF tools can't open the files at all.
I have installed the newest firmware update and restarted the printer, but the problem was not solved.
I tried many different settings (e.g., resolution, paper size, scan from ADF, scan from Glass), but the problem is always the same. For the record, I am using the "Web scan" interface: http://XX.XX.XX.XX/#hId-pgWebScan.
If there were an opportunity to attach a file to this bug report, I would attach an actual PDF file generated by this printer. I am happy to supply the file later, and I will refer to this specific file in my analysis of the bug below.
I am familiar with Adobe's PDF definition:
PDF Reference, sixth edition. Adobe Portable Document Format
Version 1.7, November 2006. Abobe Systems Incorporated.
I examined the PDF file in detail and it is quite clear what the bug is. Object 1 of the PDF file starts at byte offset 10, and it is a stream object containing the main image data in compressed JPEG format. The Length field for the stream object (at byte offset 168) is set to 1051875. However, the actual compressed stream data is only 64914 bytes long.
This is incorrect, because the PDF Reference (Section 3.2.7, p.61, "Stream Extent") specifies that "If the stream has a filter, Length is the number of bytes of encoded data." (emphasis in original). In other words, the stream length should be set to 64914, which is the length of the JPEG encoded data, and not 1051875 (which is presumably the length of the raw unencoded image data).
Moreover, four of the entries in the PDF xref table (at offset 65504) are incorrect:
    the byte offset for object 2 is given as 1052085 (actual location of object 2 is 65124);
    the byte offset for object 3 is given as 1052140 (actual location of object 3 is 65179);
    the byte offset for object 4 is given as 1052206 (actual location of object 4 is 65245);
the byte offset for object 5 is given as 1052383 (actual location of object 5 is 65422).
Also, the PDF startxref pointer (at offset 65674) points to 1052465, whereas the actual location of the xref table is byte offset 65504.
Note that in all six cases, the error is exactly equal to the difference between the declared stream length (1051875) and the actual stream length (64914):
    1051875 - 64914 = 986961
    1052085 - 65124 = 986961
    1052140 - 65179 = 986961
    1052206 - 65245 = 986961
    1052383 - 65422 = 986961
    1052465 - 65504 = 986961
It looks like this is a simple programming error in the printer's PDF generation software: all the offsets are computed as if the length of the embedded image stream were 1051875, whereas it is actually 64914.
I scanned at different page sizes, resolutions, and so on. Each time, the actual byte offsets were slightly different (depending on the length of the encoded image stream), but the above relationships still hold in each case.
Please fix this! It is not really acceptable for an HP scanner to produce broken PDF files. Thanks, -- Peter

    Hi @Selinger
One of the important things to point out is that the Webscan feature was designed for diagnostic purposes. The intended method of scanning is with HP software and the software build into the OS.
For Mac users this includes Apple Preview, Image Capture, or scanning from the Print and Fax Window.
For Windows users, non HP software includes, Windows Live Photo GAllery, Paint, and Windows Fax and Scan.
Webscan is a great alternative, but it is very basic. Your best option it to install the HP software and us the HP Scan program.
If there is a particular reason you are using Webscan and prefer to scan this way, the only thing I can really suggest is to try a different browser.
Please let me know the outcome of a different Browser, what Browser you are currently using, and what happens when you scan with HP software. If you require further assistance, please also include your operating system. What operating system, and version do you have? Mac or Windows?
    I hope this helps.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus printing issues

I have been having two new issues suddenly (within the past 2 weeks) with my HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus. I am trying to print from my iMac 27 inch running OS.X 10.8.4 Both the mac and the printer are connected to a wireless network via an Xfinity Wireless Gateway. I have just replaced the ink cartridges in the printer but am unable to print black & white. In fact everything is comming out kinda pink. I have posted on HP's support site and was told to
    Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
    Restart your Mac.
    Reset the printing system:
    - Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
    - Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and then next to the "Use" pulldown, select the printer model (not AirPrint). Wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
Having done that initially my problem was solved. But now I'm having the problem again. I went through the above steps again, but still not able to print. Are there any suggestions for a fix. Is anyone else seen this issue? Is there a particular printer manufacturer that works well with Apple. Because at this point I have a large paperweight that is of no use to me!

The fact that it was solved and then came back points to some (unknown) issue with your Mac's software.
Try these generic fixes first (and then do the reset printing system and re-add again):

    Hi,
I have a 2008 OfficeJet Pro L7590 printer. I'm just now trying to get my printer to print wirelessly and I'm having multiple issues. I lost the disk for installation, but downloaded the installation via hp.com/support
After installing it, I tried to connect it wireslessly. On the final step, it says "
Unable to communicate with your printer. Not all diagnostic tests could be performed. Check cable connections and then retry."
I've checked all my cords and everything and they are plugged in correctly! BUT here's the thing. When I go to my start menu, and click control pannel → network and then click on a tab, such as "Network and Sharing Center, Connect to a Netowk, or set up a connection or nework. The window absolutely freezes and I'm not able to click on it at all. Also, I don't see a wireless conection icon on the bottom bar, right corner. Hello there Lawrence, Welcome to the Forums! I hope you enjoy your experience
I noticed your post about the troubles you are running into when you attempt to install your OJ 6100 printer on your Windows 8.1 laptop. I read all of your attempts and seen you have tried several methods to try and get the installation to complete successfully.
I would like to make some suggestions that may help. Let me know how it goes!
    1. Check that Internet Explorer pop-up blockers are turned off before downloading the installer
Internet Explorer Pop-up Blocker: How do I turn off Pop-up Blocker?
    Try to install
    2. If you're running McAfee Live Safe or any other firewall, please temporarily disable the "real time scanning".
    How to disable realtime scans
    Try the install
    3. Go to the start screen (you may also press the windows key + R to open the run box) and type %WINDIR% this should show the windows folder.
Click on the folder and scroll until you see files. Look for a filed named "HPWINS*.DAT" (the * is for a number that varies) remove this file and try the installation.
    Try the install

I have been trying to set up the HP Officejet it seems for over 2 weeks - it works then doesn't - I dont want to return it but if it doesnt work proper .... I removed and reinstalled software - yesterday printed from MSWORD - today its not --- it will print pages off the internet but not from my MSWORD - its set up wirelessly - so frustrated - and what's worse is I am HP lover and now I cant even find a HP support phone number to call and I am pretty sure I remember being told while I was making my purchasing decision I could call HP for support with reference to set up when I bought the printer. Hi @TheoD,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
Sorry to hear about your frustration with not being able to print from MS Word with your HP Officejet 6800 printer. But I am happy to help!
It is definitely odd that this printer is not printing from MS Word but will from the Internet. I am not seeing much documentation for an HP Officejet 6800, is it possible that you have the HP Officejet 8600? Just double-checking to make sure I provide the correct information. To find your printer's Product/Model Number follow instructions in this link. Finding Your HP Product Model Number.
For further assistance, I will also need to know what Operating System you are using. Windows or Mac? What version? If you do not know the Operating System you are using, please visit this website. Whatsmyos.
If you are using Windows, please try our HP Print and Scan Doctor, and let me know what happens!

  • Issues with connection to Officejet Pro 8500

    Hi folks,
I have a user at home with a Officejet 8500 connected to a BT home hub via wifi. it worked initially when we set it up a few months back however rarely and intermitantly since then. It notmally shows as offline in print properties and the HP app cant connect to it.
    Some network basics
    Router IP: 192.168.1.254
    Printer IP: 192.168.1.66 (via DHCP)
Alt Printer IP: 192.168.1.100 (Static IP Attempt with no joy)
    Other devices in network:
    Desktop pc (Not work kit)
    Iphone (his wifes)
    Laptop PC (work kit)
We do have him connected via VPN however Im inclined not to believe that its aproblem witht hat as we have a dozen users with the same setup and the VPN dosent cause them headaces.
Pining the hostname of the printer results in a weird IP  external IP address (87.239.20.209) not the local one. Ok so I put a change in the hostfile to point to the Printers IP. No joy there.
Tried a static IP.... you know just cos... (and in my mind best practice for a printer anyway!)
So Any ideas or any one experianced similar issues with this?
    Cheers in advanced folks

We have been having offline issues with this same printer.  I have tried to install all new software to a Win 7 64 bit computer but the full software cannot complete.  It detects the printer on the network, goes through the network settings but when it gets to Installing Your Printer, it fails with this statement:  'Printer setup has failed to complete. Click retry to try installing the printer again or click next to continue installation without connecting to the printer now.'
Now, I am connected via the web to the printer and all is well on the status screen.  I have updated the firmware too.  I read through many blogs of others having the same issue with no real resolution.   All those that were connected to it are now showing 'offline' even though they can ping it and access it directly on the web - but none can print.  I have tried downloading and installing the HP Print and Scan Doctor but it needs the 'full' software installed in order to run.....but the full software cannot complete it's install because of the above.
I have always loved HP printers but this one deserves to be in the land fill!

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus connection issue - HELP!

I have a strange issue:  after some hours, the communication link is dropped between the computer and printer.  When this happens, IE becomes unusable and will not connect to anything.  This is replicated on three XP home machines.   The fourth, a vista ultimate machine, does not seem to be affected (yet).  I get the "scan to computer is disabled" error.  It cannot be re-enabled.  At this point I cannot print either.  I can reach the embedded web server on the printer via firefox and can still surf using firefox.  I can ping the printer, but again once the connection is dropped, no printing or scanning to the computer.  The only thing I've found that resolves the issue (temporarily) is to reboot the computer, which just starts the cycle again.
last night I installed the software on an XP machine and the laptop to test when the connection dropped.  They lasted from 7pm Monday until I got home at 5pm Tues.  The machines were not used.  Once I started using them (firefox only), then they dropped the connection within a half hour of each other around 7pm.  The other XP machine lasted from 7pm Mon until 7am tues, when my wife started using it and then noticed it dropped sometime that tues between 7 and 9AM.  An 11am tues reboot ran OK until 10 pm tues when connection was lost again (and IE is now dead).   The Vista machine has been running since 7pm monday until now (930pm tues) and still seems to be holding.
printer hardwired, to router, static IP, 100-full link speed (also tried 10-half)
    router dlink di-655
two XP machines are hardwired, vista is hardwired, and last xp machine is a laptop on wireless.
I've swapped cables rebooted and reinstalled multiple times.  I must have a file a mile long on the support phone line.  They were unable to fix it.  I asked this to be escalated, but who knows when I'll get a response.
I've toggled firewalls - XP built in
    I've uninstalled anti virus software
I've even put up with crazy suggestions from tech support like changing the router channel (uhh, it is wired!)
one xp machine had an AIO 4215 hooked via USB and the others printed to it via network, but the printer has been deleted from the networked machines.
I can ping 127.0.0.1 which is supposed to indicate the tcp service is OK.
I have not reset winsock .. I can see one machine being bad, but three????
malware / virus scan shows no issues.  Again one maybe, but three??
The only thing I can think of is that there is something in the XP networking stack that conflicts with the new 8600 software as hours pass.  Perhaps there is some polling operation that goes on then dies after some time, then it kills IE as it dies.
When the printer works it is great, but rebooting is not a permanent solution to this.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!  I am stumped and so is tech support.  They are sending it to engineering, but who knows when they will respond.
    thanks in advance.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

well it looks like I have a working solution  ... I downloaded a freeware file called process.exe .  I made a cmd file via notepad with the following contents:
rem this is to keep the HP network printer communicating with the desktops
    rem
    process -k "hpnetworkcommunicator.exe"
    rem
    process -k "scantopcactivationapp.exe"
    rem
    "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8600\Bin\HPNetworkcommunicator.exe"
    rem
Start "" "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8600\Bin\ScanToPCActivationApp.exe" -deviceID CNXXXX:NW -scfn "HP Officejet Pro 8600 (Network)"
the XXXX is your printer serial number with an extra character or two.  Pull that number from the port tab after you pull up "properties" for the 8600 printer.
This cmd file basically restarts the printer link.  It opens a command window that launches the program to re-establish the link.. then it closes the command window.   The launched program shows that the communication link is dead (just for a few seconds), but then it makes the connection... THEN you hit the close button and coninue your work until it dies again.
I may have it autorun every X hours if I can narrow down a good time.  Until then I have a shortcut on the desktop to "FIX HP LINK"   ...   I only had to do this for my XP machines, as the vista one seemed OK.
What ticks me off is that I shouldn't have to do all of this diagnosis. It would be nice if there is a fix in the pipeline so the link stays stable al the time.  I've spent hours trying to figure this crap out.
Anyhow, I hope the time I spent helps someone.  PS, thanks to the OJ6500 thread that had the info for the scantopcactivationapp.exe program.
PS  ...  I'm still waiting for an engineer to contact me, if any HP employees are reading this.
PSS  I haven't tried this without killing and restarting the hpnetworkcommunicator stuff, but it works for now.

And it has been printing OK until today, when the black ink started getting splotchy. But the utility shows plenty of black ink in the cartridge. I cleaned the print heads, and that changed nothing. I printed out a print head health quality test, and oddly the only thing that printed was two blocks of magenta--the rest totally blank. Odd because the print utility only shows the yellow getting low and that not even ready to change.
I don't want to open up new cartridges for nothing because these signs don't necessarily add up to this being due to empty cartridges. So I am stuck as to how discover what the problem is.

  • How to resolve formatting issue when eprint from an iPad to Officejet 4500

Just activated the eprint app on my IPad. It found my HP Officejet 4500 Wireless printer but the formatting is wrong when printing an email. Is there a solution?

Do you maybe have a photo of the formatting issue you could post here? Thanks, Ciara

  • OS 10.4.11 and HP Officejet 4500 compatibility issue (scanning)

    Hi there,
    I am having a compatibility issue with a G4 (OS 10.4.11) and a HP Officejet 4500 (all-in-one).
(Sorry if this is a little long, but there are many specs and many attempts listed here).
Problem: I cannot scan from the computer (upon opening HP Scan, a Browser Device window pops up, asking to "Choose a scanning device" the model is not listed, and it continues to search for a device but cannot find it) or from the scanner control panel to the computer (I tried selecting Open in HP Scan and Open in Preview from the panel  –it then says on the panel "Starting scanning" but it doesn't scan even though the power button flashes (it then reverts to date and time), and the program it's opening in on the computer just seems to hang).
    Still, some functions work fine:
    - I can print from the computer to the printer (it recognizes the printer)
    - The HP fax test seemed to run fine (via computer)
    - As a stand-alone device (without the computer), I can photocopy in B&W and color –so there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the scanner itself.
    Here are the specs:
    Computer specs:
    - PowerPC G4, 933 MHz, 512 MB SDRAM, running OS 10.4.11 (no Intel Core processor)
(the hard drive is partitioned into 3 –one runs 10.4.11 (the others Jaguar and OS9 –for compatiblity with other programs/peripherals) –21GB space remaining on 10.4.11 partition
    All-in-One specs:
    - HP Officejet 4500 G510g-m (USB, not wireless) all-in-one (printer/scanner/fax/copier) with USB 2.0 high-speed A-B printer cable (says in literature and on box it is  compatible with the G4 running OS 10.4.11, 256 MB RAM, 500 MB HD)
I contacted HP Tech Support. They suggested the following which were tried and failed to work:
    - shutting everything down and restarting (many times)
    - they checked to see if there was any update to the HP software –there didn't appear to be
    - plug power cord directly into wall outlet
    - switch to USB 2.0 cable (from 1.0)
    - unplugging and replugging the USB 2.0 cable
    - plug USB directly into the G4
    - turning off the firewall (under System Preferences - Sharing)
    - "scrub" or complete uninstall of all HP software (twice)
    - search and removal of files via system and user libraries pertaining to HP (and some Epson files)
    - verify and repair permissions (twice)
    - reinstall of HP software (twice, second time after scrub/uninstall and verify/repair permissions)
    - Software Update (via Apple menu) –only found Java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 Release 2 (version 2.0) which they suggested might fix the problem –I downloaded and installed them, and then J2SE 5.0 Release 4 (version 4.0) which I downloaded but could not install (error message)
I then contacted Apple Tech Support and they said to go to support.apple.com and do a manual search for "HP 4500" –I did not find any drivers.
[I did previously have an Epson CX 4600 all-in-one which scanned fine with a USB 1.0 cable, even after the printheads had clogged shut –and I had had a HP Officejet J4580 which worked fine (which was for a family member) –this software would've been removed with the current HP installs and scrubs]
I am on the verge of returning this –it has also gotten several very bad reviews on the Apple site (for the wireless), however, I may have trouble finding a compatible device, as one running 10.4 is getting hard to find (unless I buy used, then no warranty and potentially other problems).
If anyone knows of any drivers or has any other information as to why this is not working, I would be most grateful (BTW, I am not much of a tech guy, so please bear with me).
    Thanks.
