Officejet 6000

I now only want to use this printer for black and white text. That 920 cartridge needs to be replaced, and all the color cartridges show empty as well.  I have only been printing in gray scale, and not using colors for some time. Can I only replace that black & white cartridge and forget the colors? as the latter are expensive to replace and I will not be using them?  I don't want to make that color investment if possible with this Officejet 6000 609a printer.  Thanks for any advice!

Hi there @SAMis71 , welcome to the forums
I understand you are looking to find out if you can print in black and white only, and have other ink cartridges empty. Unfortunately the Officejet 6600 does not have this feature.

I have Windows 8.1.  My HP Officejet 6000 E609n wireless printer worked well, until the modem died and a new one was installed (new address).  I need to know how to make it recognize the new network address.  (Note: I tried to install the original setup software, but the CD would not run under Windows 8).

  • Setting up my macbook pro to hp officejet 6000 wireless printer

Having trouble getting my macbook pro (new) to print from printer.    Have USB plugged to printer and the wireless modem (no desktop setup).  Was able to intially print then it started showing printer not connected.   If I plug USB to the macbook vs. the wireless cable modem, I can print.
I do get an ip address.
    Thank you.

    Hi CEBD,
Thank you for your reply! As Mac OS X 10.10 was just released yesterday, there is currently no HP Software and Drivers for this Operating System! However, if your HP Officejet 6000 was previously connected to your network, all you should have to do is to add the printer as a wireless printer. Please see this guide, OS X Mavericks: Set up a printer. You can also watch this youtube video, Installing an HP Printer in Mac OS X Mavericks Using a Wired or Wireless Network Connection.
Please see this post, Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite and HP Printer Support, by @Double-U-Dee.
I would also take a look at this guide, 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Does Not Print: Mac OS X, and follow the steps for 10.8 and 10.9.
Hope this information is helpful, and have a great day!

Running on OSx 10.6.8 using a new HP Officejet 6000 printer. How can I get to within 1/8" on all sides of an 8.5x11 sheet of paper. Images and copy cuts off at 5/8" at bottom. HP says it's a mac problem, not an HP problem. I tried every combination of print settings. Nothing has solved the problem. Have I missed something?

Yes you are unfortunately you as the consumer are caught in the middle. I totally disagree with what HP told you, they supply the print drivers to Apple, Apple doesn't write printer drivers that I know of. Look in the print settings to see if you can go below 5/8", I know I can with my HP printers (Laserjet 1012, Color Laserjet 2600N, OfficeJet 7410 & OfficeJet 7700 series) so I'm sure the issue is specific to the OJ6000 series.

  • Cannot print wirelessly from Windows 7 (64 bit) laptop to Officejet 6000 Wireless (E609n)

The printer is a HP Officejet 6000 Wireless (E609n) and is connected via usb to a Windows 7 (64 bit) desktop and the laptop has Windows 7 (64 bit) loaded.
No changes were made that I'm aware of other than the usual Windows updates.
Server is offline is displayed next to the printer icon on the laptop when printing is attempted.
The wireless network test report shows no problems.
I have rebooted the desktop and printer with no success.
The laptop used to print wirelessly without a problem.

I am not sure the Officejet 6000 can have both the wireless and USB ports active at the same time.  You could try disconnecting for the USB cable and then power cycling the printer and trying to connect wirelessly.  If you have the desktop connected to a router that also provices wireless capability you could connect the desktop with the network connection.
One other thing you might consider is sharing the printer on your network from the desktop computer.  Next on the laptop computer do the following: go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, Local Printer, Create a Port, Local Port, \\Computername\Printername (use the actual share name for the computer and printer), OK, then select HP (not Hewlett-Packard) for the manufacturer and select the appropriate HP Officejet 6000 series model.

  • Officejet 6000 printhead

We recently had to change the color cartridges on our HP Officejet 6000, and afterwards, we started getting the error code on the control panel that is for "The printhead is incompatible" - power button is blinking and all the cartridge buttons are blinking in order from left to right.   The manual troubleshooting says to be sure it is properly installed or to replace the printhead.   The printer is not very old.  I am having my business office research when we bought it.  Is it normal for a printhead to go bad so quickly?  We've only used it for normal printing purposes and only use HP ink products with the printer.
Also, if the printhead needs replaced, I couldn't find anything in the manual on how to change the printhead.  Can anyone give me instructions on this as well?  Thank you very much for your assistance..

    Hi folks
For the Incompatible Printhead message, have you tried cleaning the printhead?

Ok, since you get the error "The selected printer is not present." during the installation, here is some troubleshooting that should help narrow down the cause/resolve the issue:

How do I get my macbook OS X 10.5.8 to print both sides of paper with HP Officejet 6000 wireless?

If it has that available, when the Print Dialog comes up, click on Copies & Pages, choose Layout, look for 2 sided printing... some Printer Drivers may have it under abother heading.

  • Officejet 6000 wireless and WPA2-Enterprise network security

I own an Officejet 6000 wireless printer. The manual says that it should be compatible with a wireless network with WPA2-Enterprise network security but when setting up the connection (I am using a macbook and am setting the printer up via usb connection) the newtork is listed but the security type is "unsupported." For whatever its worth it is listed 5 or 6 times but probably thats a different issue.
I can still select the right network but it only asks for a security key, but my network security requires a log-in name and password.
What can I do to get my printer connected to the network?

I get the feeling that most of the people replying here don't know the difference between WPA2-Personal and WPA2-Enterprise.
    Personal has a passkey.
Enterprise uses both a username and password, usually in conjunction with a Radius server (802.1X athentication).
What we've had to do solve this problem is create a second SSID on the network that authenticates on WPA2-Personal. We use a really long password to secure the network, one that I will never be able to memorize in my lifetime.
All we can hope for is that these enterprise-level vendors will, perhaps, gain a greater understanding of wireless authentication processes and the needs of actual enterprise customers who at least a percieved need for wireless printer capabilities. It used to be that customer was always right, though. Perhaps those days are gone...
The other problem that probably ought to be addressed on consumer end is the fact that multicast tools that make AirPrint work (such as Bonjour), are being blocked from crossing between your wired and wireless networks, perhaps by the wireless controller or due to inefficient routing hierarchy or NAT/PAT issues. Solve this issue and you won't have a need for wireless printers.

  • Officejet 6000 (E609n) won't print anything

I'm running Windows 7, SP1 and have my E609n hooked up via usb, with the wireless off.
My power button is flashing continuously, with no other lights coming on. Every 30 seconds or so it produces a sound that sounds like a single cycle of the roller. Print jobs spool, but the printer never changes state.  If I lift the lid the print head moves over and the power light goes solid with the paper feed light soild. When I close the lid it goes back to just the power light flashing.
I've reset the printer with the unplug/hold power button method and reset the print spooler. When I power the printer back up it cycles normally and returns to power light flashing state when it's done booting. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer from my system. No change.
It's out of warranty, so I'm curious if there's anything else I might be able to do. Thanks.

    Hi @panicbot
I see your power button is flashing continuously, with no other lights on. Please use the following document to troubleshoot the issue; Blinking Lights on the HP Officejet 6000 (E609a) and 6000 Wireless (E609n) Printers.

  • HP Officejet 6000 609a - Windows 8.1 64bit drivers

    Hello!
I recently upgraded from Win 8 to 8.1. My printer (Officejet 6000 609a) was working fine under Win 8, but it seems to make trouble under 8.1.

Is there anything I can do to get my printer working again?

  • How do you turn off power saving mode on a Officejet 6000

I have 5 Officejet 6000 printer contected by using the ethernet port. They print fine when not in power saving mode. When they go into power saving mode and a print job is sent to them, they do not print. You have to power off and on the printer for the job to print. I need to turn off the power saving mode on these printers. Computers sending print jobs are XP and Window 7.

I am not aware of a way to turn that feature off completely since it does not have a front panel.
However, I suspect largely that the issue is with DHCP IP (automatic) settings.  Printers in general, with some routers, have issues with DHCP and standby where they no longer communicate using DHCP information.
I recommend setting static IP addresses for any printer on a network as it prevents most network issues with printers from occuring.
Print a network configuration page by holding the network button for 3 seconds and then releasing it.  A printout should be printed with the printers IP address.
Once that is done, enter that IP address into the browser on a computer as if you were going to a site.  Once that is entered, go to that site and the printer status page should be loaded.
There should be a Network option at the top.  Select that option.
On this page, somewhere on the left, there should be an IPv4 option in a wired section.  Select this and it will give the option for automatic or manual IP setup.
Select Manual IP setup.  Enter The IP address and subnet mask from the printout.  You can enter the gateway and the DNS servers, but they aren't really used since this printer does not have any web functions.
Click apply and you should get a success message.
At this point, the printer should have a static IP address and the issue of it not responding after entering standby should no longer be present.
PrintDoc's post has similar steps for a wireless version of the same printer.  The only step that would really be different is choosing Wired instead of Wireless on the setup page.
