Officejet 6500 A wireless+Lion

I have an officejet 6500, and am running Mac OS Lion. I keep losing the network connection.  It will work fine for  a while, then suddenly it will take forever to print, or, worse yet, never find the printer.  Any ideas? I have to restart the printer sometimes to get it back on the network.  I also find it takes forever to print large files like PDF's.  Never had this problem with my older HP!

Let's set a static IP address for the printer:
- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
- Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.
- Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

  • Mac: Officejet 6500 e710n wireless connectivity troubles

    Printer: HP Officejet 6500 e710n-z
    Mac OSX Lion 10.7.5
I've successfully been printing wirlessly with my Offiject 6500 e710n for over a year. Connectivity comes and goes but I've always been able to reconnect them by either rebooting the printer or reconnecting them via the IP address of the printer.
However it's no longer working. I've tried uninstalling the printer drivers and reinstalling and now the printer cannot be located wirelessly on the network at all (despite the fact the printer's wireless report says all connections fine). I've tried the following:
    - manually add printer using the IPv4 address --> says device not found
    - type printer's IP address into my web browser -->says failed to connect as the server is not responding
    - connect via usb to printer --> recognises printer, sets up the wireless network, says disconnect and then it disappears again and says device not found
I'm starting to run out of ideas... Any suggestions to help me reconfigure/ re-install my printer so it works again would be greatly appreciated!

  • HP Officejet 6500 (E709n) wireless mobile printing issues using Wi-Fi...

I have an HP Officejet 6500 (E709n series) that I can no longer print from my Android based device. I have the latest drivers installed on my Win-7 64 bit Premium edition and have flashed the most current firmware available on HP's site. There was a time not long ago where I downloaded and installed an HP app from the Android Market which allowed my mobile device to print to my wi-fi enabled and configured HP 6500. My phone crashed so I had to re-download and install apps. It seems HP ePrint Home&Biz app is the only option here and from what I've read, this app is not compatible with hP ePrint. Am I missing something or is this completely lame to discontinue support for a printer hardly a year old?

    Hello JayyTeee,
I do apologize for the issue you are having.
It sounds as though you are printing wirelessly from your Android phone on the same network as the printer.
This is actually different from ePrint.
The Home & Biz app is designed primarily to print on the same wireless network.
If the app is not finding the printer, I would make sure the phone and printer are on the same network.
If they are on the same network, then I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the Home & Biz app from the Android Market.

  • Unable to connect Officejet 6500 and Wireless internet simultaneously in Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I am using Mac OS Snow Leopard and Officejet 6500. Before upgrading to Snow Leopard, I was able to connect both my printer and my wireless internet simultaneously (Leopard OS). However, after upgrading to Snow Leopard, I'm able to connect only one of them at a time which is really very inconvenient. Whenever I need to print, I need to manually select "hpsetup" from the Airport drop down and wait for it connect. This disconnects my internet. Then I need to select my wireless internet option in the Airport drop down again once I'm done with the printing.
This is defeating the entire purpose of a wireless printer. Guessing that its a problem with HP developing the required driver for Snow Leopard. I've already downloaded the driver meant for Snow Leopard but this is not solving the problem.
Also, would like to know whether its a problem with everyone or specific to me?

OK, great questions.  I'll try to address them by number:
    2. I do not think this is possible.  I think your printer was initially connected to your router and has recently fallen off (thus broadcasting 'hpsetup').  Sorry, I am not saying you are lying, but I do not think it is possible without two radios.
    3. a.  Yes, you can only talk to one device at a time through your computer's wireless radio.
    3. b.  You can attach your printer wirelessly in case you need to move it, but....see "c" below.
    3. c. I would recommend that you attach your printer via a wired connection (Ethernet cable) to your router if you can.  It is by far easier to set up and more reliable in the long run.  I can help.
The wired and wireless sides of a router talk to each other.  By the time it gets to the router it really does not care if the connection is by wire or wireless, it treats all "clients" the same.  That is why I recommend to wire your printer to your router and keep a wireless connection between your computer and router.

  • Officejet 6500 and wireless router not connecting

I just purchased an Officejet 6500 and trouble trying to connect it to my wireless router.  Each time I try to connect the printer by wireless it locks up.  The power button is not lit, but the screen is lit with no text.  At this stage I cannot shut it down or get it operating again.  I'm running Vista Business 64-bit and the router is a 2wire 1800HG through AT&T.  It runs fine with a usb connection.
    Thanks in advance.  John

I think you've just run into a known problem with some HP network printers with 2WIRE AT&T DSL routers.
We've identified the problem and will deploy an update sometime in the future.  Until then, the work around is to assign a static IP address to the printer. Here's one way to do this:
Unplug he telephone line from the 2WIRE router
Turn the power off on the 2WIRE router, wait 30 seconds, then turn the power back on.
Go through the normal process of connecting the printer to the 2WIRE device (Ethernet or Wi-Fi). The printer will not crash as long as the telephone line is disconnected from the 2WIRE device.
From the Officejet's front panel, access the "Advanced Setup" menu under "Network"
Select "IP Settings", acknowledge the warning and select "Manual IP Address"
Select "IP Address" and change the last IP address group (octet) to something higher or lower. Specifically for your 2WIRE router, select 192.168.0.60.
Press Ok and plug in the telephone line into the 2WIRE router.
Steps 4, 5 and 6 can be done from the printer's internal web page (under the Network tab) and it might be easier than the front panel on the 6500.  To get to the internal web page, you browse to the printer's IP address which you can find by printing the Network Configuration.

  • How do I correct a Windows Vista error for HP Officejet 6500 E709n wireless?

I continue to get a Windows Vista error when trying to install the printer software ...now it does print, but only the bottom half of a page..???

Dave, I would recommend completely uninstalling the printer from Programs and Features (after unplugging the USB cord if you are using one), and removing the printer from both Device Manager and Devices and Printer.
We are going to reinstall the printer from one of the downloads that HP makes available, but first I will have to know if your printer is the 6500A or the 6500. Also is your Win Vista machine running 64bit software or 32bit software?
If you can give me a complete product name and the information on your system, I will link you to the appropriate download.
    Let me know!

  • I have an HP Officejet 6500 E709n wireless printing problem

I am using a macbook and Safari 10.6.8. When I set the HP printer to work wireless over the home modem it will work just fine for awhile. Then some days later it won't find the printer and I have go to the printer and re-enter everything to get it back online to print wireless again. I have to do this over and over. I have downloaded the lasted updates for the printer and no change. Has anyone else run into this and found any solutions. Thanks for any expertise.
    Tom

How does your printer get its IP address? If it uses DHCP, try a static address. I had symptoms similar to yours, but after giving it a static address, I've not had problems printing or scanning. I suspect that when the printer goes to sleep, it does not reconnect to the network properly. And, same as you, rebooting things works for a while. I've only just tried this today, so I don't want to say its definitively fixed, but up until now, printing/scanning would work until it went to sleep. If I'm proven wrong, I'll post again.

  • Hp officejet 6500 wireless e-709, black won't print.

I changed the cartridge but no luck.  aligned the print heads and cleaned them in the "tools" section
The color cartriddges need to be changed but I am hessitant to change tthem if the black is not going to work
    any ideas or recommendations?

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve black not printing on your Officejet 6500 e709 wireless printer.  Be sure to check the vents as shown in solution three.
If the above does not resolve the issue then soaking the printhead as shown in the post here may help.

  • OfficeJet 6500 dead end

    Hi,
Similar to experiences outlined in other posts, I too cannot get officejet 6500 E709n wireless printer to print on demand.
If I want to print I have to turn off and then repower the printer, at least once. Sometimes the situation requires two or three power ups to fix the problem. This was a problem I could unhappily live with when i was printing low volume, a few times a week. But since starting to use it more I'm now having to repeat this procedure about 30 times a day which is driving me insane. It wastes at least 30mins of precious time each day.
I use 2 xp pro pcs and a macbook runing OS 10.6.2.
The problem with printing on the 6500 is the same with all three computers i.e. the fault seems to be the printer, NOT any computer.
Someone at HP technical support suggested the problem is wth the router. My router is a dlink DI-524.
I am inclined not to believe it is the router as I have run many devices including other wireless printers on it without any problems previously. Anyhow, I have tried the following suggested solutions:
-assigning the printer a static ip address in the printer setup page.
-making sure the mac address in the router DHCP setup matches the printer's mac address.
-downloading the firmware update dated 30 October 2009.
None has worked. In fact the firmware update software doesn;t even get past the startup - it just crashes on 2 different pcs running xp pro.
There is no firmware update via os x.
I would be grateful if anyone had any real solution?

Are the computers on the same network (wired or wirelessly)?
What brand and model is the router?
Do you receive any errors at all?  If so, what are they?
Are you referring to the wizard on the printer to connect it to the network of the install wizard?
Are you wanting to use the printer on the wireless network or wired network?
On the printer, go to Setup>Network>Wireless Test Report.  Does it show anything as failed?  If so, what are they?

  • Officejet 6500 forgetting network name and drops out all the time

I just got an Officejet 6500 (non-wireless model)
I can assign a network name to it and it works fine, until it's power-cycled. Then it has the original network name again and of course it won't work until it's installed again.
Another problem that could probably be related is that even when I use the default network-name to add it as a network printer in Vista, connection seem to break and it won't print again until I install it over once again.
I get the feeling that firmware is somewhat buggy on it. I don't expect such a device to use batteries to keep it's settings, so I think it's safe to rule out?

@Wifi-Guy: Yes, it's using an ethernet cable IP address always work.
I did some additional testing to find the exact reproducable error.
(I have previously installed the HP software that came on the CD)
    1. I added the printer using the "Add new printer" wizard in Vista
    2. Print test page, works fine
    3. Turn off the Officejet 6500 on the power-button on the front panel (then the WSD Print Provider dissappears in Device Manager).
    4. Printer status now appear as "Offline"
    5. Turn on the Officejet 6500 again
    6. When WSD Print Provider again appears in Device Manager, printer status changes from "Offline" to "User intervention Required" and it's impossible to make it print again unless printer is deleted and added again.
I was not able to find any useful information about this printer status using google.
I just tried changing the network name. As I suspected, this also resets just by powercycling.
    Note: I'm using Vista x64.

  • Officejet 6500 - reboot and it prints last print job over

I have an Officejet 6500 running wirelessly on a home network.  Laptops running Vista or Windows 7 and desktop running Windows 7.  When any of the computers reboots, it causes the last print job to print out on the printer.
    Thoughts?

Is your printer still in warranty? You can check with HP's warranty tool here.  Are you located in the US?

  • How can I print to my HP OfficeJet 6500 Wireless Printer from my iPhone 4S which used to work before AirPrint printers were even available? (running Mac Lion OS, all software and HP sw updates are all performed)

How can I print to my HP OfficeJet 6500 Wireless Printer from my iPhone 4S which used to work (on prior iPhones) before AirPrint printers were even available? (running Mac Lion OS, all software and HP sw updates are all performed)
I don't get it, I read one post about why would we have to buy an AirPrint Printer when we have used the "print to a wifi printer" just fine in the past?  Yes I feel that's exactly what's happening to me now too. I want to print from my iPhone and iPad to my WiFi Printer which is also now connected to my Airport Express WiFi network just fine. No problems.

Very glad you added that bit of information because I see different problems similar to this.  I want to share with them what you did and hopefully you not only fixed your specific problem but you can lend some more advice to others with problems like this. Thanks!
