Officejet 6500 duplex setting question

In the Printer preferences, what are the exact settings when automatic duplex mode is set? When a setting says "Automatic", I would like to know the specific setting this means. I ask this because when I print in "Best" quality setting in Everday mode, the printout results in darker text than when in Duplex mode, and I would like to get it so that both Everyday and Duplex modes result in the same exact output.

I have just bought an OfficeJet 6500 and am also having major problems if I try to use automatic duplex printing. The first side prints ok then waits a while to dry but when it tries to print the second side the printer jams every time. When I remove the duplexing unit the paper is always concertina'ed between the unit and the rollers inside the printer. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be really grateful! This is one of the features I was hoping to make use of.

Every time I run duplex printing, paper stucks inside duplexing unit. It just gets smashed.
Is there a solution for that?

  • Wireless officejet 6500 duplex printing issue

duplex printing works fine until i have a document that is 6, 8, 10 pages long.  that's when duplex printing would be the most efficient.  but after 2-4 pages, it stops, the printer displays a "print cancelled" message & i have to start over where it left off.  then i can get another 2-4 pages.
i recently did my win7 upgrade (from vista) but that has not helped any.
what makes it stop in the middle??

  • HP OfficeJet 6500: Duplex printing

    Hello,
I've just bought a HP OJ 6500 and after recognizing the shipped-with CD contains "up to 10.5" software and drivers only I downloaded 10.6 software from HP.
I installed the software and added the printer in system settings.
When choosing appropriate driver, software update started and downloaded HP drivers from Apple.
Now I'm unable to print duplex.
No matter if I activate the checkbox or manually select double-sided printing in Layout settings, sheets are always printed one-sided.
Any hint or advice on how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Peet

    Hello again.
Downloaded and (re-?)installed HP PrinterDriver Update 2.4.1 from Apple download and now it seems to work ... At least this time it warned me duplex is not available with "border-less" (or "margin-less"? In my German installation it's "Randlos A4") printing. Switching to normal paper size, with no special options set, and enabling duplex it worked.
    Bye,
    Peet

  • Re: Officejet 6500 e709n fax question

How do you erase the fax log?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

That can be found in the manual on page 82 chapter 6.  It shows how to clear the fax log via the device control panel and Hoe to clear it via the embedded web server. Go to Setup>> move arrow  to Tools, press OK>> press arrow key to move down to “Clear Fax Log” and then press OK.  Here is a link to the Manual if you want to check it out. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01669504.pdf

  • DUPLEX PRINTING - HP Officejet 6500 E710a-f PRINTER

My HP Officejet 6500 E710a-f is fitted with a Gadget for Duplex  Printing.
That notwithstanding, the Print Settings do not provide an option for automatic Duplex Printing. The Settings only provide for a "Print One Sided" under which there is a Sub-Option that provides for "Manually Print on Both Sides" with the Intruction "Reload Paper when prompted to print the second side".
Have I perhaps looked for the Duplex Printing Option at the wrong place OR would there perhaps be something wrong with my Printer/Software?
More to the point, do I need to do anything to activate the Duplex Printing capability??

Ensure that the driver knows that a duplex unit is present on the printer (assuming that one is):
For the printer instance in question, bring up the Printer properties dialogue.
    Select the Device settings tab.
Ensure that the duplex unit is set to Installed rather than Not installed.

I have an OfficeJet 6500 709n and was able to automatically duplex print with Windows 2003 no problems.  I upgraded to Windows 2010 and now it won't see the automatic duplex printing.   I can only select single page printing and manual duplex printing.  Any ideas what I need to correct????  HELP PLEASE!!

    Hello,
Make sure the Automatic Duplexing option is enabled:
Enter Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
Right click the printer icon, then click Printer Properties.
    Click the Device Settings tab.
Set the Automatic Two-Sided Duplex Accessory as installed and click OK to save the change.
Now Automatic Duplexing should become available.

    Hi cookiesz219,
I found this in the user guide for HP Officejet E710n-z available here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02519721.pdf
    Could you try:
    1. On the printer control panel, touch > Setup, then touch Fax Setup then Basic Fax Setup
    2. Turn on Auto Answer
    3. Set Rings to Answer to the number of rings.
    I hope this helps.

  • Duplexing unit for Officejet 6500

I've got hold of an Officejet 6500 to take to university with me next month. I'm thinking that a duplexing unit would be useful but HP UK don't have any and I can't find any online elsewhere (except HP USA, which would be a bit too expensive I reckon). The part number is CB057-67001, anyone know of a place where I might be able to get hold of one?

  • Troubles with HP OfficeJet 6500 E710n-z on Arch Linux

Recently, I have tried to use my printer after five months break. It used to run smoothly on Arch Linux with hplip. However, now, I have not managed to make it print properly with hplip again. This is my configuration, as seen from the CUPS web interface:
Driver: HP Officejet 6500 e710n-z hpijs, 3.12.11 (color, 2-sided printing)
        Connection: hp:/net/Officejet_6500_E710n-z?ip=192.168.1.4
After trying to print some test page, the jobs listing in the CUPS web interface showed me a error message "Filter failed". I deleted my .cups and .hplip directories in my home folder and reinstalled cups and hplip. The same symptoms appeared again after restarting and a fresh installation.

My Arch system is up-to-date. I heard that it might have become necessary to install the hplip-plugin somewhen in the last month for some HP printer models. If I understand the table at the bottom of http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/mo … 10n-z.html correctly, then the hplip-plugin is neither required nor available for my printer model. I tested also installing it from AUR, just because it was worth a try (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/hplip-plugin/), but this made matters worse, having my printer to madly produce almost-empty paper with some crap characters at each page top. As expected, the hplip-plugin was a dead-end, and I uninstalled it to continue some experimentation with printing test pages (all on the same page, mind the trees!). Resuming the printer, CUPS prints

Indeed, some errors show up. I find it strange that ghostscript is called with a parameter -sDeviceModel="HP Color LaserJet 2600n" -dDuplex=true even though I clearly have an inkjet printer and no laser printer – and also specified the correct printer model. Also later, I can see the two lines

which to the best of my knowledge indicates some internal mess. Raising the debug level in cups.conf did not tell me anything new.
Notably, using the hpcups driver at least makes the printer print pages properly, but the wonderful (mind the trees) duplex-mode seems to only be available when using hpijs when selecting the PPD file in the add printer wizard. That is why I want to stay with the driver mentioned above.
The trouble for me is that the printing pipeline is so complex and so many components are involved that I have no real good starting point to where exactly post bug reports. I would appreciate if some fellows with the same printer and the same errors could confirm my description. Or even point out how to get that organism to paint ink properly on the paper. Any ideas where to start? Or references to better resources regarding the combo of HP OfficeJet 6500 E710n-z and Arch? Is it just an regression bug and will be fixed? Is my system corrupted in some way? There is lots of open questions I don't quite feel able to answer all by myself. Any hints for troubleshooting appreciated!

After some more reading and troubleshooting, I have filed the following two bug reports at hplip:

    SCAN ISSUE SOLVED!!!!
I have an HP Photosmart 6500a Plus printer that is connected via USB to a less than 1 year old Dell XPS 8300 tower running Win 7 64bit Home Premium Edition.  The print function worked fine but scans would halt mid-way through the scan and eventually the software would indicate that it had lost connection with the scanner.
After EXTENSIVE testing, I determined that the problem was with the Dell tower and NOT THE PRINTER.  I hooked the printer up to a Dell Inspiron mni-tower running Vista and had NO PROBLEM scanning.  I hooked the printer up to a Gateway laptop running Win 7 Pro and had NO PROBLEM scanning.
On a hunch, I inserted a POWERED USB hub in between the Dell XPS 8300 tower and the HP Photosmart 6500a Plus and was rewarded with a, first time ever on the XPS 8300, complete and flawless scan.
I surmise that the HP Photosmart 6500a Plus was not getting the required voltage from the USB on the Dell XPS 8300 tower and that was causing the scan to fail.
    WOOHOO!
Been chasing this one for several months...

  • OS 10.6.4 compatibility with HP OfficeJet 6500 & Epson Artisan 700

Just purchased MacBook Pro and upgraded iMAC and Mac Pro on my local network to OS 10.6.4. iMAC is connected to local network via Ethernet, other computers and printers HP OfficeJet 6500 and Epson Artisan 700 connected via wireless. All went pretty good except for the two printers. You need to install Rosetta for some 3rd party software to work. It's on the OS 10.6.3 disk.
The HP OfficeJet 6500 is new. In the printer box was a notice to NOT use the enclosed CD's if using OS 10.6. HP manual was terrible. Key was getting the local network operating and then using HP printer keypad to select SETUP/NETWORK SETUP/WIRELESS SETUP WIZARD. It automatically found the name of my local network and then asked me to enter the WEP Key Code of my local network. For some reason the WIRELESS SETUP WIZARD didn't show up for the first day. Now have access to the printer from all computers - even duplex mode works.
Can't say the same for the Artisan 700 we've had for one year and was working good with OS 10.5. The only computer that could not access the Artisan 700 was the one connected via Ethernet to the local network (other computers wireless). Tried downloading Epson drivers, Network setup S/W, etc. Epson says there is a problem with TCP/IP connection and are "working on the problem" - in the mean time use Bonjour driver. I installed print drivers from OS 10.6.3 disk and then did Apple software update. Don't know why but suddenly Bonjour driver showed up and the Artisan printer was recognized by the computer connected to network via ethernet. Also had to manually set up the Artisan printer again using the printer keypad to select local network and enter the WEP Key Code. Duplex printing does not work though. Year ago when we bought the printer had to call Epson who after 1.5 hr on phone got duplex working, but didn't know why or how. I'd taken notes and tried same thing, but didn't work this time.
Perhaps this will help other people deciding to do an OS upgrade.

Thanks for response on the Epson duplex mode problem. I downloaded the updater, but it would NOT open after I installed it. The install created a second file called InkJet Printer 2 (original was w/o the 2). The updater tool is v 8.33 on the one just downloaded while the existing one was v 6.66, so definitely a later version. The v 6.66 gave message "unexpected quit", so it would not open either. Got same results on iMAC and MAC PRO. Do I delete the original InkJet printer file before installing the new download? Was afraid to as afraid driver would not work at all. What am I doing wrong???
When select duplex mode in the print window get message "duplexer not installed" on both computers.

  • U-verse, Time Capsule, and 2 Switches, OfficeJet 6500

I know just enough about networks to screw them up, so I'm asking for help. I've had U-verse for about a year and no problems. Connection went from U-verse modem then out one port (Let's call this Port 1) to a computer and out another port (Port 2) to a Time Capsule. From the TC one port went to a comp and another to a switch that connected to U-verse DVR, DVD, and XBox. Just got an HP OfficeJet 6500 and tried to hook it up. Added another switch at the end of the Port 1 cable to split between printer and comp. Worked great. Tried to set up printer from 2nd comp (attached to TC) and couldn't find it. AirPort Utility told me I had double Nats since TC was still configred as a router. Went to bridge mode and that was when the problems ensued. Both computers can't find the printer, and my computer told me today that it had the same IP address as another device on the network (This is the one at the end of Port 1). That had NEVER happened before.
So the big question I guess is, do I have my network set up correct? U-verse wireless off, TC creating wireless network in bridge mode. If this looks correct any suggestions on the printer issue?

The TC in Bridge Mode would be the correct setting since you already have a router (the U-verse device) "upstream" from the Time Capsule.
Whenever you make a change in a network component...routers in particular....you always want to perform a complete power cycle on the entire network.
Power everything down....U-verse, TC, computers, switches, printers.....order is not important
Wait a few minutes, then start the U-verse gateway first and let it run a moment by itself
Start the TC the same way
Work out through the network starting devices in sequence one at a time until everything is powered back up
You may need to reconfigure the printers again so that they find the correct "path" on your "new"' network

  • Part for officejet 6500

I inherited a used officejet 6500 and need to get a part so the paper will feed properly. Remove duplexer if attached. There are some black plastic "fingers" pointing at a rod with wheels. One set of these "fingers" has broken (the pair on the right). Does anyone know where I can buy these "fingers"? Or do I have to go to a service center? Thanks

The service center or HP should sell them too I would think

  • Unable to connect Officejet 6500 and Wireless internet simultaneously in Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I am using Mac OS Snow Leopard and Officejet 6500. Before upgrading to Snow Leopard, I was able to connect both my printer and my wireless internet simultaneously (Leopard OS). However, after upgrading to Snow Leopard, I'm able to connect only one of them at a time which is really very inconvenient. Whenever I need to print, I need to manually select "hpsetup" from the Airport drop down and wait for it connect. This disconnects my internet. Then I need to select my wireless internet option in the Airport drop down again once I'm done with the printing.
This is defeating the entire purpose of a wireless printer. Guessing that its a problem with HP developing the required driver for Snow Leopard. I've already downloaded the driver meant for Snow Leopard but this is not solving the problem.
Also, would like to know whether its a problem with everyone or specific to me?

OK, great questions.  I'll try to address them by number:
    2. I do not think this is possible.  I think your printer was initially connected to your router and has recently fallen off (thus broadcasting 'hpsetup').  Sorry, I am not saying you are lying, but I do not think it is possible without two radios.
    3. a.  Yes, you can only talk to one device at a time through your computer's wireless radio.
    3. b.  You can attach your printer wirelessly in case you need to move it, but....see "c" below.
    3. c. I would recommend that you attach your printer via a wired connection (Ethernet cable) to your router if you can.  It is by far easier to set up and more reliable in the long run.  I can help.
The wired and wireless sides of a router talk to each other.  By the time it gets to the router it really does not care if the connection is by wire or wireless, it treats all "clients" the same.  That is why I recommend to wire your printer to your router and keep a wireless connection between your computer and router.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.
