Officejet 6500 ethernet

Hi all, I am based in the UK and considering buying an Officejet 6500 wireless, but
(a) the description says it has an Ethernet port, but the reviews I have read seem to vary about whether this means you can simply plug it into your (non-wireless) router and it will automatically be usable by all your computers, or whether you need to buy a separate HP printer server.  Can anyone please confirm the correct situation?
(b) there seem to be several version of the 6500 wireless, differing only by a rather obscure ending of the product code, which is not always displayed on shopping sites, and i have seen at least one reviewer saying he had had to send his back because when he got it it was not the version he expected.  Can anyone shed any light on which is the "standard" Ethernet/wireless fax/scan/print/copy device?
Thanks very much,
Cyberbub

Answers:
(a) The printer's ethernet port will allow direct connection to your wire/wireless router.  It works great...no passwords, no wireless interference from other networks or wireless home phones.....
(b) I think there are only two versions in any one region - wired and wired/wireless.  I could be wrong....

  • Officejet 6500: Fax not showing up

    Hallo everybody ...
after updating to Mountain Lion the Fax of my networked Officejet 6500 (ethernet connection to switch) didi not work, so I uninstalled the Fax, did a reset of the printer system and tried to reinstall the fax. It was no problem to reinstall the printer and scanner, but the fax is not showing up in the "install fax menu" of the "install printers" dialog.
What can I do to reinstall the fax services ?
A downgrade to Lion is no option, I already did a search for new drivers via software update, but no new driver showed up ...
    Thank you very much,
    KW Lorenz

With some of the HP models, it's necessary to add the printer again using the fax ppd. I see several OfficeJet 6500 ppds:
    E709a Series
    E709a Series. Fax
    E709n Series
    E709n Series. Fax
    E710a-f
    E710a-f. Fax
    E710n-z Series
    E709n-z Series. Fax
If you see your model, add the printer again and use "Selct Printer Software…" to find the ppd.
    Hope this helps.

  • OfficeJet 6500 disappeared from network

    Hi-
I've got an OfficeJet 6500 (ethernet-only model) that was running well on through a Netgear WNDR3300 router. I decided to upgrade the router to a WNDR3700 (also Netgear).
I'm trying to connect to two Win7 machines and a Mac running Snow Leopard.
But before we even get to the computers, my router shows an amber light for the connection with the printer, instead of a green light. I changed out the ethernet cable, and position in the router, but that apparently isn't the problem.
The diagnostic tool can find the printer sometimes, but not all the time. The printer drivers can never find it.
I've tried resetting to factory defaults, uninstalling drivers, etc. Nothing seems to work. Any help is appreciated!

Here are a couple of ideas:
    1. Update the firmware on the Netgear router.  There were connection problems with them and a few months ago Netgear fixed it with a firmware update.
    2. Set a static IP address for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. Enter the current IP address.
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Leave the gateway and DNS blank. Click 'Apply'
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

  • HP officejet 6500 drivers for windows phone

    IHello,
I have officejet 6500 with ethernet card. I use with wireless. I have Nokia 1020, Win8.1 mobil phone. I want print text on my phone. I installed HP Aio Remote Beta program. Aio found my printer but it said that this printer isn't supported. How can I print my text using my mobil phone on the officejet 6500? Is there any driver for mobil phone or any different program? or is that an upgrade for Aio (it must include my printer's driver ofcourse)
    Thanks...

    Hi,
I afraid the printer is not compatible with Windows Phone.
Only the models listed within the "What printers support printing features for the HP AiO Remote app for Windows 8 Phones?" below can be used for printing from Windows 8 Phone devices:

  • HP OfficeJet 6500 E709a: cannot scan from Windows 8.1; uninstall crashes at step 8 of 10

When I try to scan from Windows 8.1, launched from the HP Solution Center, it fails before giving me a preview, saying:
    Scanning error
    4,[(2,22,80040001),(3,22,0)]
When I run the HP Print and Scan Doctor and select "Fix Scan", it fails on the first check, saying it failed to find the driver. The text field that gets uploaded to HP includes the string "hpbxpsrender.dll: Not Found".
I tried uninstalling, using uninstall.bat in the "OJ_AIO_6500_E709_EntScruber_140" (HP OfficeJet Enterprise 14.0), which I downloaded from HP.com. It gets to step 8 of 10 ("removing unnecessary components..."); then it hangs and Windows 8.1 says "HP Installer Uninstaller has stopped working" and kills it.
I have tried running uninstaller in regular mode, in regular mode with my anti-virus / firewall (Kaspersky) paused (disabled), and in Safe Mode with Networking. Same result every time.
I have run the Installer without error. I can view the HP OJ status web page in my browser (http://192.168.1.5) from both computers.
I don't remember if scanning has ever worked on this computer. Scanning works on another computer (Windows XP). Both computers are wired (Ethernet) to the same network switch as the HP OJ.

    Hi DonaldPayne,
Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I see you are not able to scan to your HP Officejet 6500 with your computer running the Windows 8.1 Operating system. You have tried to uninstall the software but get an error message.  I see you have done ALOT of troubleshooting already, thank you for that, this allows me to see what has failed for you.
I would like you to continue here and complete the steps listed below:
    1. Press the Windows key + R on the keyboard to bring up the run menu.
    2. Type %programfiles% in the run field and click OK.
    3. Delete any HP/Hewlett Packard folders.
    4. Press the Windows key + R on the keyboard to bring up the run menu.
    5. Type %programfiles(x86)% in the run field, and click OK. This is for 64 bit systems only.
    6. Delete any HP/Hewlett Packard folders.
    7. Press the Windows key + R on the keyboard to bring up the run menu.
    8. Type %appdata% in the run field, and click OK.
    9. Delete any HP/Hewlett Packard folders.
    10. Press the Windows key + R on the keyboard to bring up the run menu.
    11. Type %programdata% in the run field.
    12. Delete any HP/Hewlett Packard folders.
    13. Press the Windows key + R on the keyboard to bring up the run menu.
    14. Type regedit in the run field.
    15. Delete any HP/Hewlett Packard folders or keys that you find. (backup the reg file b4)
    16. Run Disk cleanup from Administrative Tools
    17. Now run the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows it was created to help Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 users download and install the latest and most appropriate HP software solution for their HP Printer.
    18. If you run into any problems after installing using the PIW, now we can re run the HP Print and Scan Doctor- It was designed by HP to provide users with the troubleshooting and problem solving features needed to resolve many common problems experienced with HP print and scan products connected to Windows-based computers.
I will watch for your reply, please make note of anything that you run into as well as what the PSDR finds.

  • HP OfficeJet 6500 (E709a) network problems

Hello. I have a new HP OfficeJet 6500 (E709a) Its all in one. I am trying to use it through a network in my home.
It is already working for 1 computer, a wireless laptop BUT not for me, a ethernet wired desktop.
    PC: Windows 7 64 bit
Laptop: Windos Vista (dont know if 32 or 64) Using the printer succesfully wireless.
Well the problem is when trying to scan the printer or computer won't detect each other BUT I can print from my pc to the printer.
I installed it through the PC Add a Printer because everytime I tried it with the program downloaded from HP it wouldnt detect, EVER my connected and already tested printer. I can access the printers webpage, the 0.0.0.0.0 something page. I even tried the advanced installing way, manually typing the address the printer has but it would still not work.
I installed everything by selecting I would wire my printer later but to continue the installation I must find a way for it to detect my pc or the otherway around.

  • Officejet 6500 e709a fails during multiple page scans

I have an Officejet 6500 e709a that I've used for years. I'm running Windows 8.1 64 bit. Today it stopped scanning in the middle of a multi-page document and gave me this error code, 8, [(4, 0, -2147023170)]. It will scan one page with no problem, but after 3 to 5 pages I get the error.
I restarted the program, restarted my computer and uninstalled/reinstalled HP Solutions Center. Nothing worked.
    Any ideas?

    Welcome to the forums Christopher!
I read your post about the scanning problem you are now having with your Officejet 6500 model. I would first suggest running the Print and Scan Doctor and recycle your network devices, if you have the printer connected wireless or ethernet. If you have the printer connected USB, try a power reset.
    Power cycling the network devices:
Turn off the printer and computer and unplug the router for 1 minute (do not press any buttons on the router).
Plug the router back in and wait another minute, next turn on the printer and computer.
    Power reset:
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
Ensure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help greatly.
Please let me know the results!
    Have a great day

  • HP Officejet 6500 e709n - Solution Center Scan Malfunction

I've recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 8.1 already installed on it.  I've had my HP 6500 for years and it has worked perfectly - all functions.  When going online to download the drivers to my new laptop, all messages indicate the installation is complete, but I can only print.  The scan function does not work at all - from the solution center or from the keys on the printer.  I've called HP Help (I even have a case number) and they have remotely taken control of my laptop several times with no scan success.  They have told me it's a Microsoft software issue.  I called Microsoft, and they are telling me it's a HP issue.  I know the actual printer itself is perfectly ok, because all function still work on my old laptop.  Si, the conclustion is that there is a compatibility issue with Windows 8.1 and the scan function (as I can print just fine).  Is there a chance the driver on the HP website is not updated for the scan funtion with Windows 8.1?  Is there a fix for this that I am not aware of?  I prefer not to use third party apps, as this is the reason I had to purchase a new laptop - because of viruses.  Help!!!  I need the scan funtion (to .pdf) to work ASAP as I use my printer/scan function for business.  Is there a fix?  I prefer not to buy a new printer, as this one works just fine, except not on Windows 8.1.  Again, HELP.............

  • HP Officejet 6500 E709a Printer - Wireless Networking Problem

Hello, I hope you can help me with networking my Officejet 6500 printer.  I tried connecting it to my Dishnet wireless router via the USB connection.  There is a Netgear N300 wireless router connected to the Dishnet router.  I am running Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit.
When I open up HP Solutions Center, and select Network Settings, I get the error, "This product has not been configured for networking.  No network settings are available."  I printed out a network configuration page but it says the network status is offling and the EWS shows http://0.0.0.0.  I have powered down everything (computer, printer, routers), and still get the same error.  I tried running the HP Print and Scan Doctor but it did not fix the issue.
Besides the desktop, I have 2 other laptops that I would like to be able to print wirelessly from.  Thank you for any help you can provide.

    Hi DawnAZ,
I'd like to help.  I have some questions.  Are you sure you have 2 routers?  I'm not saying you don't, but it is not typical.  Most often, a router is connected to a modem.  The Internet signal comes in to the modem and then transmitted to the network through the router.  I'm wondering if the Dishnet device is a modem and the Netgear is the router for your network.
The connection from the printer to the router would be through an Ethernet cable.  A usb cable would not work for this connection.  I am going to insert an image to this post so you can see where the Ethernet cable needs to be plugged in to the printer so you can be sure it is plugged in to the correct port.
I'm thinking that the printer should be connected to the Netgear with the Ethernet cable and another Ethernet cable should go from the Netgear to the modem.  Let me know if you what you think.
The yellow plug is in the Ethernet port.

  • OS 10.6.4 compatibility with HP OfficeJet 6500 & Epson Artisan 700

Just purchased MacBook Pro and upgraded iMAC and Mac Pro on my local network to OS 10.6.4. iMAC is connected to local network via Ethernet, other computers and printers HP OfficeJet 6500 and Epson Artisan 700 connected via wireless. All went pretty good except for the two printers. You need to install Rosetta for some 3rd party software to work. It's on the OS 10.6.3 disk.
The HP OfficeJet 6500 is new. In the printer box was a notice to NOT use the enclosed CD's if using OS 10.6. HP manual was terrible. Key was getting the local network operating and then using HP printer keypad to select SETUP/NETWORK SETUP/WIRELESS SETUP WIZARD. It automatically found the name of my local network and then asked me to enter the WEP Key Code of my local network. For some reason the WIRELESS SETUP WIZARD didn't show up for the first day. Now have access to the printer from all computers - even duplex mode works.
Can't say the same for the Artisan 700 we've had for one year and was working good with OS 10.5. The only computer that could not access the Artisan 700 was the one connected via Ethernet to the local network (other computers wireless). Tried downloading Epson drivers, Network setup S/W, etc. Epson says there is a problem with TCP/IP connection and are "working on the problem" - in the mean time use Bonjour driver. I installed print drivers from OS 10.6.3 disk and then did Apple software update. Don't know why but suddenly Bonjour driver showed up and the Artisan printer was recognized by the computer connected to network via ethernet. Also had to manually set up the Artisan printer again using the printer keypad to select local network and enter the WEP Key Code. Duplex printing does not work though. Year ago when we bought the printer had to call Epson who after 1.5 hr on phone got duplex working, but didn't know why or how. I'd taken notes and tried same thing, but didn't work this time.
Perhaps this will help other people deciding to do an OS upgrade.

Thanks for response on the Epson duplex mode problem. I downloaded the updater, but it would NOT open after I installed it. The install created a second file called InkJet Printer 2 (original was w/o the 2). The updater tool is v 8.33 on the one just downloaded while the existing one was v 6.66, so definitely a later version. The v 6.66 gave message "unexpected quit", so it would not open either. Got same results on iMAC and MAC PRO. Do I delete the original InkJet printer file before installing the new download? Was afraid to as afraid driver would not work at all. What am I doing wrong???
When select duplex mode in the print window get message "duplexer not installed" on both computers.

  • Computers Can't Find OfficeJet 6500 Wireless Connection

For a while, my OfficeJet 6500 709n worked perfectly for a week or two over my wireless network. For reasons I cannot understand, none of my computers can see it anymore. It shows up on the router information page, but even browsing to the printer's IP in my browser times out. (So it's not a driver issue.)
When I connect it to a wired ethernet connection, it works perfectly again, with the ability to access the browser interface. But nothing I do makes it work wirelessly again.
    Help?
    Steps I've taken:
    (1) Restarted all relevant computers, the router, and the printer.
    (2) Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers (10.3 from the site)
    (3) Put the printer on a static IP address. (192.168.1.100)
    (4) Ensured all OS firewalls are off
    (5) Printed a network status page from the printer front-panel showing that everything is connected to the network
    (6) Located the printer as a connected device on my wireless router configuration page (http://192.168.1.1)
    (7) Connected through my browser to other networked devices (my Tivo) to ensure that those work. They do.
    My setup:
I have an OfficeJet 6500 709n that I use with two MacBook Pro laptops running OS 10.6.4. The whole system is networked through a Verizon FiOS router (ActionTec) with WPA encryption.
So I'm really, really stumped here. Any help at all would be wonderful.
    Thanks, all!

From the front of the printer go to Setup > Network > Reset Network Defaults.  From the Network area, now run the Wireless Setup Wizard.
Next, let's set a static IP address for the printer.  I need to know what router and security type you use.

  • Unable to connect Officejet 6500 and Wireless internet simultaneously in Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I am using Mac OS Snow Leopard and Officejet 6500. Before upgrading to Snow Leopard, I was able to connect both my printer and my wireless internet simultaneously (Leopard OS). However, after upgrading to Snow Leopard, I'm able to connect only one of them at a time which is really very inconvenient. Whenever I need to print, I need to manually select "hpsetup" from the Airport drop down and wait for it connect. This disconnects my internet. Then I need to select my wireless internet option in the Airport drop down again once I'm done with the printing.
This is defeating the entire purpose of a wireless printer. Guessing that its a problem with HP developing the required driver for Snow Leopard. I've already downloaded the driver meant for Snow Leopard but this is not solving the problem.
Also, would like to know whether its a problem with everyone or specific to me?

OK, great questions.  I'll try to address them by number:
    2. I do not think this is possible.  I think your printer was initially connected to your router and has recently fallen off (thus broadcasting 'hpsetup').  Sorry, I am not saying you are lying, but I do not think it is possible without two radios.
    3. a.  Yes, you can only talk to one device at a time through your computer's wireless radio.
    3. b.  You can attach your printer wirelessly in case you need to move it, but....see "c" below.
    3. c. I would recommend that you attach your printer via a wired connection (Ethernet cable) to your router if you can.  It is by far easier to set up and more reliable in the long run.  I can help.
The wired and wireless sides of a router talk to each other.  By the time it gets to the router it really does not care if the connection is by wire or wireless, it treats all "clients" the same.  That is why I recommend to wire your printer to your router and keep a wireless connection between your computer and router.

  • Officejet 6500 E709a driver software problem

PROBLEM - driver software does not stay connected to PC.
Purchased this printer new 10 days ago and successfully downloaded full feature driver software package from HP web site. Install to my network with Ethernet cable went fine. 3 days ago, could not print from HP PC. Message said printer not connected. HP Chat tech advised me to uninstall existing software and repeat download and install process. Everything went okay. Today, same problem that printer no longer connected. I have repeated the uninstall/download/install process. Process went okay.
Have others experienced the same problem? Is this an issue with HP software or does it indicate a problem with my printer?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or ideas.

    Hi Tim49,
I understand you've been having some issues getting Windows 7 drivers for your Officejet 6500 printer. I'm sorry to hear you've been having this problem, but I will certainly do my best to help.
There are definitely Windows 7 drivers for your printer. You can access the download by clicking here, you will just need to select whether you have a 32-bit or 64-bit system. To figure out which you have, just click on your Start menu, right click on Computer (should be on the right side of the menu) and then click on Properties. In the window that opens you should be able to see which system you have and then proceed to the link I provided and download the HP Full Feature Software and Drivers.
Hope this helps, have a great day!
