Officejet 6500: Fax not showing up

Hallo everybody ...
after updating to Mountain Lion the Fax of my networked Officejet 6500 (ethernet connection to switch) didi not work, so I uninstalled the Fax, did a reset of the printer system and tried to reinstall the fax. It was no problem to reinstall the printer and scanner, but the fax is not showing up in the "install fax menu" of the "install printers" dialog.
What can I do to reinstall the fax services ?
A downgrade to Lion is no option, I already did a search for new drivers via software update, but no new driver showed up ...
Thank you very much,
KW Lorenz

With some of the HP models, it's necessary to add the printer again using the fax ppd. I see several OfficeJet 6500 ppds:
E709a Series
E709a Series. Fax
E709n Series
E709n Series. Fax
E710a-f
E710a-f. Fax
E710n-z Series
E709n-z Series. Fax
If you see your model, add the printer again and use "Selct Printer Software…" to find the ppd.
Hope this helps.

  • Officejet 6600 fax not showing up in menu using windows 7 64

I using windows 7 64 I reinstalled hp software for Officejet 6600 all in one, but my faxing software will not show up in the menu . I have removed all drivers related to Officejet 6600 several times same problem every time . The fax menu was there before all hardware is still the same.

    Hi G2123,
I understand you are no longer able to fax from your computer as the Officejet 6600 fax is not showing up. I suggest starting with the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
The HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free utility (tool) that helps to quickly resolve common printing, scanning and connectivity issues including but not limited to:
    Connectivity :

Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
Device Status Test : Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
Driver Check : Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
Device Manager : Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
Device Online : Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
Print Queue : Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
Port Match : Checks the port settings for the HP product.
Device Conflicts : Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
Ink Issues : Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
Print Settings : Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
Test Print : Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.

  • Officejet 6500 printhead not printing black ink

I just purchased a new printhead and it shows I have full new black ink cartridge, but it prints all colors except black.

    Hello bstimson1.
Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand your Officejet 6500, after purchasing a brand new printhead, is still not printing in black ink.
Now, buying a brand new printhead is not a guaranteed fix, but I can certainly try and resolve this issue. When purchasing this printhead, did you receive setup ink cartridges? Additionally, where did you purchased the printhead?
Did you clean the electrical contacts inside the product, before installing this printhead? I will provide an HP document on performing this step here.
Please follow this HP document on Common Print Quality Problems, as well. If you "Clean the Printhead" three times, you could see improvement.
Please inform me your troubleshooting steps.
Looking forward to hear from you.
    Hello adeterman.
Welcome to the HP Forums as well! I understand you are not witnessing any black ink when printing a document. What type of printer do you have? Click here to find out: Model Number.
I am going to recommend following this entire HP document on Common Print Quality Problems.
If you are still receiving a defective printout, please contact HP techincal support for further assistance. Click here to find out: HP Worldwide Contact.
Please inform me your troubleshooting steps.
    Good Luck.

  • Officejet 6500 scanner not recognized after driver upgrade with Mac OS Lion

I have an Officejet 6500 E709n. Using Mac OS Lion 10.7.5 all software is updated.
I was having printing issues so I "reset printing system" thru Mac System Preferences and uninstalled my print drivers that originally came with the printer from HP. I am using the drivers updated by Mac OS Lion.  The printing problem was solved! Sadly, I now have no scanning capability. I have followed many suggestions on scanning that I've found here on the forum, but my system no longer recognizes my printer as a scanner. The scan option is not even visible under the "print and scan" window in system pref. (I used to be able to click "print" or "scan" buttons on the printer window but even now there are no buttons giving those options).
Thanks for your help and time!

    Hi,
As I understand from your email that you are unable to scan from the MAC OS X System, this is due to the software issue, so we need to uninstall and reinstall the completed software,
Please follow the steps below and let us know how it was.
Step 1:- Run the Scrubber to uninstall the previously installed HP printer drivers
     • Double click on the Macintosh Icon.
     • Click on Application and then on Hewlett-Packard.
     • Click on HP Uninstaller.
     • Select the device and press and hold Control + Options + Command (Apple) keys on the keyboard.
     • Click on Uninstall.
     • You will get a popup window “Are you sure you want to uninstall all HP Software packages”.
     • Click on OK to continue.
Note: It will remove the software for all HP printers. If you have any other HP printer installed, you may have to reload the software and set up the printer again.
During the process of uninstall, it might prompt you to enter the password of your computer to continue with the uninstall process. Please enter the password and click on Continue.
Step 2: Download and install the latest software.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=bi-98080-2&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...=
    Step 3: Add a Printer
    1. Click the Apple menu icon, and then click System Preferences on the drop-down menu.
    2. Click Printers & Scanners to open the printer’s folder.
    3. Click the plus sign (+).
    4. Select the product and from the print using option, from the drop down menu select the printer and not Airprinter, and then click the Add button.
    5. Follow onscreen instructions if any.
    6. After a few seconds, the product displays in the Printers list.
Step 4. Try Scanning through HP Scan Application.
Click on the Go Button on the top.
    Click on Applications.
    Click on HP Scan.
    Try Scanning and check.
Also check from Print and Scan.
    Let us know the results.

  • HP Officejet 6700 Fax not going through

When I try to send a fax, it dials but never connects?

    Hi @Carlita61,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that the fax is not going through with your HP Officejet 6700. I am happy to look into this for you!
What type of phone service do you have? Analog or digital? Analog. Digital. What’s the Difference?
If the phone service is analog, please see this guide, Cannot Send or Receive Faxes.
If the phone service is digital, please go to this guide, How to connect your HP Fax Device to an ISDN, ADSL, PBX, or VoIP line. Note: HP fax devices are designed to work with traditional analog phone services. They are not designed to work with digital phone services such as ADSL, PBX, ISDN, or VoIP. While HP fax products are not supported on these types of lines, they might work given appropriate setup and equipment.
To find out if your phone service is analog or digital please contact your phone provider.
Hope this information is helpful, and thank you for posting!

  • HP Wireless Officejet 6500 will not stay loaded on more than 1 computer

I have 4 laptops that I have loaded the software on for this printer.  We have XP, Vista, and Windows 7 operating systems.  I loaded the software first on a windows 7 machine, then the Vista,  the other windows 7 and finally the XP machine.  It will only print now on the second windows 7 machine.  When I try and print from any of the other machines it says the printer is offline and the only way I can get it to print is to reload the software from the disk which then throws the other machine offline.  I am extremely frustrated with the machine.  If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it as we all need to print!

Tell me about your network - router brand/model, encryption type (WEP, WPA, etc) and ISP type (DSL, Cable, etc).
What security software are you using?
You could try using this utility - it may give some clues.

  • Why does my printer not show up?

    Hi all,
I have two printers, an HP deskjet 3500 j610 and an HP officejet 6500 E709.
When I open my preferences and try to set up the printers, the officejet 6500 is not showing up on the network. The 3500 is set up and working completely fine, however the 6500 is not even showing up when you click the + button from the print and scan settings from the system preferences.
I tried to connect using the IP address, however it says it cannot connect to the network because of an error. I have a linksys router, which is working correctly to my knowledge.
If I bring up HP utility, it shows up there and will print the confg. page and show the supply status but still will not show up when I try to add it to my Mac.
So basically, the printer does not even exist according to my Macbook, but then shows up under the HP app. This started about 2 weeks ago, before that, both printers worked fine. I updated all the software to check that, still no solution.
    Any solutions?
    Thanks!!

Which os is installed on your computer?
This started about 2 weeks ago, before that, both printers worked fine.
Have you done anything differently in those 2 weeks?  Have you tried repairing permissions and restarting your computer?  Have you checked HP site to see if you needed to update its drivers?  I know you indicated that you updated your "software" however, you did not indicated what "software" you updated.
Have you contacted HP tech support?

  • Officejet 6500 E709 Double-sided printing to Mac OS 10.9.2

I am switching from a Windows PC to the MAC, and I no longer have an option to print double-sided listed in my print menu.  I am using driver version 4.1.2.  Is there a different driver or another way to get the ability to print double-sided on the Mac?  Thank you very much for any help!!

After reading other questions, I thought I should expand on my question above.  My Officejet 6500 is not a duplex printer.  My Windows print driver/interface had a two-sided print option that allowed one to print the odd pages first and then prompted me on how to orient the pages and reinsert them into the printer for printing of the even pages.  On my Mac, I do not have such a software option to enable one to print two-sided in two printer passes.  Thanks for any help!

  • Cannot scan, fax, or copy from HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One E709a

I can print from my HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One E709a, but I cannot scan, copy, or fax.  All drivers and updates are current; no recent updates were made prior to the problems occurring. I use Windows 7 64-bit.  When the printer is turned on, it always shows Original Loaded, but no documents are in the feeder or on the glass (I have already cleaned the glass and have ensured that the cover sits tightly).  I am having problems scanning, copying, and faxing. The automatic document feeder is functioning.  I have tried to reset the printer several times.
When I try to Scan a document in the document feeder (it does feed through) or from the glass, I get variable responses – rarely, it appropriately asks how I want to save/handle the doc (e.g., save as pdf), but the document does not actually scan and I am directed to Reload the document OR it displays No Scan Options. The document does not show in My Scans.
When I try to Copy, it shows the document as copying, but there is a long delay before the progress bar occurs.  When I copy using the document feeder, I actually get a copy (rarely and always faded-looking) or the copy prints out blank—both results are always followed by an error message to Reload the document.  When copying from the glass, the copy prints out blank with an error message to Reload the document
The same problems occur when trying to Fax.   Whether trying to scan, copy, or fax, the printer is making a lot of sounds of gears whirring.
Again, I can print a document from my PC without any problems – the problem is limited to scanning, faxing, and copying.
I have tried the HP Print & Scan Doctor.  It always stops at the HP Twain Scan step, saying the Scan process was cancelled by the user (not true).  When I click on Continue, it proceeds down to the Test Scan step, but nothing happens when I click on the Test Scan button.  It will only allow me to Skip at that point.   All of the other steps show green checks.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

My first question is really going to get to the core of the issue, I heard you say that the printer makes sounds, but if you lift the lid does the bar A) travel across the screen and B) light up?
Additionally, perform both of these resets and let me know how they go!
