Officejet 6500 streaks from color cartridges only

I get horizontal streaks from all three color cartridges. The streaks are in different parts of the image, depending on the colors used. I have cleaned the printhead twice and no change.
I replaced the color cartridges but the problem continues.
Black prints perfectly with no streaks.
Alignment is fine.
I followed the instructions for manually cleaning the printhead, but that didn't help at all.
The only way I get good prints is to use the presentation quality settings.

Hello,
Please check this link and see if any other solution may remove the streakiness.
Best Wishes

  • Officejet 6700 Premium says color cartridge is depleted and won't print at all

My printer is only 5-6 months old, and refuses to print because it says the Yellow cartridge is depleted. I know it has not dried up and that it is still printing fine because I signed up for an app that prints out recipes every weekday (in color) and the page printed just this morning looked perfectly fine - the yellow showed up totally normal. The estimated ink level for the yellow cartridge does say that it is depleted, but how can that be when I have proof (from this morning's printout) that I still have yellow ink?  And, according to the manual, the printer will still print if one of the color cartridges is depleted, as long as the black is not depleted. The black is only half-used, so why is the manual giving false information and my printer still refuses to print anything? Very frustrated....

Hey BoydJones, I see you are having an issue with your Officejet 6700 Premium and have a few questions.  There are 2 major types of ink systems for inkjet model printers: IPH (integrated printhead) and IIC (individual ink cartridges).  Many older model printers used the IPH style cartridge system: Tri-Color and Black.  Most newer printers use the IIC system, but not all. There was a reason for the paradigm shift in the ink systems.  The tri-color cartridge contained all 3 colors used in color printing: Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow.  If any one of the 3 ran out, then you had to replace the cartridge no matter how much of the other 2 remain in the cartridge.  In the IIC system one can change only the individual color that is out. As to the reason your color is draining from what appears to be little color usage:  The printer uses ink in many ways.  Ink is used when cleaning the printhead to ensure proper performance in print jobs, a small amount of color ink is placed below black ink to ensure a full rich black color and a long lasting printout, and ink is used to perform other preventative maintenance in the printer.  For more information on how ink is used in HP printers please click here. The reason one has to change the cartridge in the IIC style ink system is to prevent damage to the printhead of the unit by ink drying in the ports of the printhead.  The printhead in the 6700 premium is a stationary/permanent printhead and any damage of this nature could prevent the unit from printing at all.  In the 2 cartridge, IPH, system the printhead is contained with the cartridge and replaced with each cartridge change.  Thus, if one runs out of color and waits to replace the cartridge there will not be an issue of dried ink in the ports as the printhead is changed with the cartridge. I hope this helps to explain and clarify.  As well, I saw your post and forwarded it to the right people for their review. You should hear back from someone shortly via private message on this Forum. Jason

  • OfficeJet 6500-E7709n - re-enable cartridge "chip" level monitoring

    OK, slap my wrist, I was a Bad Boy. . . .
I tried to refill exhausted print cartridges on my OfficeJet 6500 - and had no end of troubles.  Yea, I know.  Brainy move Einstein!  One of the recommendations was to turn off chip ink level monitoring via the preferences menu (#7) within setup.
As I am sure you can guess, that didn't do diddle-squat, so now I want to go out & get some genuine HP cartridges.  Before I install them, I want to undo the mess I made and put things back the way they were.
Question:  How do I turn that option back ON?  Having turned it off, the option has totally disappeared from the preferences menu altogether.
I tried a "Reset Defaults", but that doesn't work.  Is there a way to turn it back on?  Absent that, is there a way to, (so to speak), nuke the printer back to the Stone Ages so that it's back to it's Out-Of-Box state?
    Thanks!

    Update:
    I figured it out!
To accomplish this, you need to do a NVRAM Reset by performing the following sequence of steps:
Turn power off to the printer using the power button on the front panel
Using two fingers on one hand, press and hold  both the "#" and the "6" keys at the same time.
Using the other hand, press the power button to turn the printer back on.
Continue to hold the # and 6 keys until the display goes blank, and then lights back up again.  It will then say "Semi NVRAM Reset" - at that point you can release the # and 6 keys.  This might take a minute or two.
Once this is done, the printer will go through its "out-of-box" initial set-up routine for printing.  That is, it will attempt to re-charge the print-head by performing multiple cleaning cycles and will then run an alighnment cycle.
    At that point you're done.
    Hopefully that helps.

  • Black Ink Printing from Photo Cartridge Only

I've had the Photosmart Premium for about 6 months now and while it does a great job it prints black from the photo cartridge only.  I've replaced it several times already and have not printed that many photos.  Most of my printing is text only.  I have looked at the settings, changed the settings, etc. multiple times and still can't get it fixed. Please help!!

If you are printing on plain paper make sure plain paper is selected in the paper/quality settings.  The pigmented black ink sill not be used for printing when photo paper is selected.

  • Color Cartridge only prints for some applications -- HP Deskjet 5740

My color cartridge still has half its ink left.  It prints fine for the charts and graphs of SPSS (statistical processing software).  However, it will not print in color at all for Word, or from AOL pages.  What could cause this?
I have already ran all the maintenence routines, like cleaning and such.  On the test page, those fruits come out somewhat greenish, but mostly black and white.  But then my SPSS charts have rich color.  This is baffling.

  • Stills exported back from Color are only 1 frame long

I think I know the answer- I'm just hoping it's not true.
Anyways. I have a 640x480 sequence of still images (tifs) set to music. I sent it to Color, and color corrected the stills. Then I rendered, and sent back to FCP. Only problem- the still images are only 1 frame long, and I can't change the duration in any way.
Where did I go wrong, first of all? Should I have exported a SCQT of each photo first, and reedited using that? I have no motion of effects on that photo.
Second of all, what's the best way of going from here. Do I need to regrade everything?
    Thanks for your help.

No, the stills likely have a different colour profile associated with them, which should be taken care of in FCP... but as QT, maybe not... COLOR not differentiating or loading any Photoshop-type profiling.
And, no, COLOR can't render tifs... It wants to render QT or dpx/cin.
You should have been able to create a new COLOR project with your razored SCQT and done a File... Import Color Corrections from the former project, if you had exactly the same number and order of clips in the resulting sequence. Sort of a one-click solution to saving them all one at a time and loading them one at a time...

  • Can't print to officejet 6500 E709a from networked computer

Today I've tried reinstalling my printer software multiple times and I still can't get the printer to print. "Print Test Page Fails." The printer itself works fine on the computer it's connected to with a USB. It works fine from my second networked computer when connected by USB. The second networked computer can see the printer on the network, and appears to be adding it correctly. It tells me is there and ready, but then gives me the error message when I try to print a test page. Nothing is appearing in the what's printing dialog box either. My network works fine with everything else. All troubleshooting has failed to produce any errors. I'm running Windows 7 on both computers, the main one a 64-bit and the second one 32-bit. A third computer on the network, in another room, can find and print from the printer. So.... any idea what's stopping me from getting this resolved?  Thanks...  Liz

One final update to report...  I almost abandoned the idea of printing to my HP printer from a network computer after receiving your last message. It still bothered me, though, that both Norton's firewall, which I intended to use, and the Windows firewall, which I thought was disabled, had been enabled when I installed the printer. As a final attempt, I made sure the Windows firewall was off, uninstalled the printer using the HP setup CD, and cleaned the Registry. Then I reinstalled the printer again, and WOW, it works! I'm posting this just in case it may help someone else who has had to rebuild their computer after a full system recovery back to factory status. My learning: Norton's firewall is not a problem, but Windows firewall needs to be all the way off. Thanks for all the help and time you took trying to get me up and printing again.  Cheers...  Liz

  • HP Officejet 6500 E709n all-in-one: how to print CD/DVD labels, on Mountain Lion OS?

My printer is an HP Officejet 6500 E709n all-in-one: how do I print CD/DVD labels, using MACBook Pro & Mountain Lion OS?
    Thanks,
    Jim
    [Edited for Personal Information]

Hi there Jim, aka @jknud , welcome to the forums
I understand you're looking to print CD/DVD labels to your Officejet 6500 Wireless, from your Mac.
There are normally third party software programs you can download to print out whichever brand of labels you are trying to print on. If you wish to let me know which type of labels you are using, I will see if I can find their support forums for you.

  • HP Officejet 6500 E709n Series (replaced all cartridges and printer won't print in color.)

I replaced my color cartridges and my magenta will not print. Originally only the black would print then after the following steps the bluee and yellow cartridges began working. Previous steps I have tried; Clean cartridges step one the blocks on the bottom of page not solid they were streaky. Clean cartridges step two nice print quality solid blocks at the bottom only blue and yellow no magenta. Followed your steps listed above cleaned print head. Aligned cartridges then printed quality page then print quality diagnostic. I am unable to get the magenta cartridge to print. I would appreciate your your help as we have an important school project due.

    @rkcpalmsprings, welcome to the forums
I am replying to you, to share the troubleshooting guide I would suggest for the magenta not printing from your Officejet 6500 Wireless. The steps may look familiar to you as you have tried quite a bit of troubleshooting already however, browse over the steps and try anything you haven't yet tried.
Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink for the HP Officejet 6500 All-in-On...
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue and the magenta still will not print, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you, such as a replacement or trade in, as the printhead(s) may be at fault.

  • Officejet 7110 won't print black only with empty color cartridges

There is a similar thread on this for the Officejet 6700, but I wanted to put it out there for the Officejet 7110 too.
When one of the color cartridges is getting LOW on ink, you start getting error messages for black and white printing. A prompt asks you if you want to print in just black ink, even though you have set all the settings in the dialog to black ink only. Strange, but at least you can keep printing in black ink only. Until...
When one of the color cartridges becomes EMPTY, you get totally cut off from printing in black ink only! You will be allowed to print NOTHING until you put in a new color cartridge!
I don't actually need to print color on this printer. I use it for half size check plots of engineerings drawings. Why on Earth would I need color cartridges to print black ink only checkplots? This is a total scam by HP to milk every last penny from the consumer.

I signed up for this forum just so I could respond to this thread.
After looking for an HP email address for support (that was also a joke), turns out its not simply a printer setting you can disable.
We also purchased this OfficeJet 7110 printer for strict use of black at the office.
Years and years of everyone saying, "Don't buy HP products, stop buying HP products, HP products are inferior." - to rephrase nicely.
Thought I would give it a shot, right out of the box the alignment was screwed up and took about 8 hours to fix and reprint the testing sheet (further sapping the colour cartridges). Now I can't even print in black. This nonsense about mixing colour to create a more true black, that's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Let me print in gray if the ink quality you supply is so terrible.
Will not buy another HP product again, and I will joint he hoard of many who will spread the good word.
To put it bluntly; HP - get your **shhit-frawking-bleep** together.

  • Can I print in black and white with an empty color cartridge on a HP Officejet Pro 8100 printer ?

Only the cyan cartridge is empty, all of the other 3 cartridges are fine. I ordered the cyan cartridge online but I need to print important documents today. The power button is blinking when I try to print.
I don't understand, black and white should not use a color cartridge to print.
Is there a trick so I can print before receiving the cyan cartridge ?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter has the same print mechanism as its All-in-One counterpart the Officejet Pro 8600.  This printer has a printhead mechanism that contains 4 individual cartridges: CMYK (cyan/magenta/yellow/black).
One will have to replace the cartridge, if the unit provides a message of one of the colors being empty, before the unit will resume printing.  It is a maintenance mechanism to prevent the product from self-damage.  Hope this helps.

  • Can I use the black ink cartridge only, & quit replacing the color cartridge when it's empty?

I have an HP Officejet 6210 all in one printer that takes color ink (#95) and black ink (#94).   I only want to print in black and white.   The color cartridges are more expensive and since I don't want to use them, I don't want to replace it.  Can I have the printer bypass the color cartridge (and the notifications that come with an emply cartridge) so it will allow me to use the black cartridge (#94) only and let the #95 sit there empty?  (ie it tries to print from there and I get the blank sheets...want to default it to the black ink cartridge 100% of time.)  I waste too much money on ink and wish to use the cheaper cartridge (#94) always.

Can't agree more. HP's strategy of getting more sells of its cartrige is notorious. It really drives consumers away. I am ditching my HP printer and getting a Brother instead.

  • Officejet 6100 - H611a Will not print in grayscale when color cartridge is depleted.

The title says it all. - Windows 7 64-bit
Officejet 6100 - H611a Will not print in grayscale when color cartridge is depleted!
Even though the documentation that came with the printer says it will.  After 2+ hours on the phone with HP support over the course of 2 days, I have been informed that printer WILL NOT print in black ink only if a color cartridge is empty.
I thought anyone who purchases this model should know the documents included lie.
From page 31 of the Officejet 6100 user manual:  "If a color cartridge is depleted, the printer will print in grayscale using the black cartridge."  LIES!
The HP Help Programs says the same thing.
I have hard-reset the printer, removed and reinserted all the cartridges, set the options to "black ink only," Nothing worked.  3 HP reps all said the same thing, "You have to get a new magenta cartridge."
Will be retuning for a refund as I purchased this model SPECIFICALLY because the manual said it would print the grayscale without color ink present.
Have had 4 HP printers over the years, never even considered buying anything except HP.  This will be my last HP printer.  Extremely disappointed by HP's deception.

Sorry the printer did not perform as expected.  I have escalated this in an effort to get this to the right people.
