OfficeJet 6500A Plus won't send or receive faxes

All of a sudden, my OJ 6500A Plus All-in-One stopped sending or receiving faxes.  I've turned it off, unpluggedd and re-plugged it and restarted my computer, all to no avail.
Thanks very much.

  • HP8600 Plus won't send or receive fax after firmware upgrade

    Hi All,
Suddenly my HP8600, refuses to send or receive fax. I get the message "Can'r send or receive fax" immediatley after power up.  I have a strong feeling that the problem started after an automatic firmware upgrade to version OJP8600_N911a_R1435A  .  Unfortunately there does not seem to be a simple way to downgrade or is there?   HP refuses to tell.  I have checked the telphone line and the connection also tested with another fax machine.  I tried resetting several times without any success. It is just out of warranty and works perfectly in all other respects.
     Do someone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Hello @Bondra12 , welcome to the forums
I understand you now cannot send or receive a fax, and I am here to share my suggestions with you.
No, you cannot reverse a firmware upgrade from my knowledge. I would suggest however, troubleshooting the fax problem by trying out the steps from this guide: Cannot Send or Receive Faxes
If the problem does happen to continue, and I wish that it doesn't, to give us a call to see if you have any out of warranty printer options.

  • Officejet k 80xi will not send or receive faxes

My officejet k 80xi will not send or receive faxes. It connects to the other fax line but will not send the fax through. I am using 2 wire phone line and it is hooked up exactly as my officejet T 65 was. (and as the directions specify) Does anyone have any idea of what I need to do to make this fax work? I have tried setting it up as a single fax line as well as with a phone on it also. I cannot find any combination that will allow it to work.
    Thanks

    Hello Musky52,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're receiving an error message stating fax failure using the Officejet 8600 Plus. I will do my best to assist you! Just to verify if the hardware is working on this printer, could you copy a document on your printer? Please let me know on this post if you receive an error message or you're able to copy a document successfully.
Please make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector. I just want to see if this makes a difference. I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great day!

  • HP OFFICEJET PRO 8600 PLUS UNABLE TO SEND OR RECEIVE FAXES

I've had this Officejet 8600 about a year with no problems whatsoever. I scanned a document to computer earlier this week and when the scan finished, I received the message "unable to send or receive faxes."  I've been all over the forum, tried everything on the "Cannot send and receive faxes" page.  My connections are all good, I'm using a two-wire phone cord.  Just out of the blue, it quit.  Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hello aimtheflame,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're receiving a message stating "Unable to send and receive faxes" using the Officejet 8600 Plus. I will do my best to assist you! Just to clarify, are you able to scan or copy a document successfully?
If so, then I need to find out what type of added features do you have on this fax phone line? Did you change anything recently on this line? I would suggest following this entire HP document on Cannot Send or Receive Faxes. Try running a fax test report to verify if anything fails.
Also, try turning off error correction mode on your printer:
    1. Press the Right arrow, then press setup (Wrench)
    2. Press Fax menu, press advanced fax setup
    3. Press error correction mode to off
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great night!

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus will not send or receive fax

I have connected the fax machine to the phone outlet, the fax machine dials to another fax machine, the connection sounds like it is being made (the receiving fax machine sends out a noise signalling that it has received a phone call) and then the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus says that is is "Connecting" but no fax is sent. Nor can I receive a fax, even though the phone rings on the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.   The error code I get is Error 388 which is that a communication error occurred during fax transmission.  However, this message occurs regardless of the fax number that I send to, and I had the recipient check that the receiving fax machine was working fine for transmittals from others.
Is it possible that the proble is that  I cannot send or receive faxes through a digital phone line?  That seems odd to me given that almost all phone lines in the modern era are digital.  How do I send and receive faxes with the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus if the only phone lines available are digital?  Also, 4 months ago, I used the same phone line for the same machine, and the fax function worked, but my phone provider assures me that the only phone lines that they have ever provided are digital.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
I am sorry to hear you are having issues with the fax functionality on your Officejet 8600 plus. I have found a document that has several troubleshooting steps you can try to narrow down the issue. I know some of these steps you have already done, but there might be a few that you haven't, like there is a HP test fax service you can use to test functionality.

  • Officejet 6500A plus won't connect to new wireless router

I recently purchased the Netgear R6250 Wireless Router.  My HP Officejet 6500A plus was able to connect to my old router, the Netgear WNDR3400, but it will not connect to my new router using the WPS feature, nor the Pin method.
I get "An error has occured" message when using the WPS, and an "Invalid Passphrase" with the manual input. I have verified the passphrase several times with the same result.
Is the issue with my new router (i.e. I need to make some sort of change to its settings that are not indicated in the manual) or is there an issue with the Printer (i.e. something special needs to be done to allow it to connect to this new router)

Yes, download the user guide here.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8610 Unable to send or receive faxes. (tried all of the official steps)

Can't send or receive faxes. Everything else is working just fine.I just get the error "Unable to send or receive faxes" The all-in-one is plugged directly into the wall jack directly. It doesn't share a line with anything. No voicemail. No phone calls. No DSL. Nothing. This is a dedicated fax line for our small business.  I used the search function and found a post which led me HereI've done every applicable troubleshooting solution 3 x now. Nothing works. Not resetting. Not unplugging. Not going through the setup wizard and completely re-setting up the machine. Nothing.  It's software/drivers are also fully up to date. I appreciate any help that I can get as our business is essentially at a stand-still until we can send faxes again.

Hey , I understand that you are having some issues with sending and receiving faxes on our Officejet 8610. I can help you with that. As you have found our usual troubleshooting steps and performed them there are only a few other things we can try. Make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector. On the printer click on the Fax icon.Click on the gear.Scroll down to and click on Fax Setup.Click on Advanced Setup.Turn Error Correction Off.Set Fax Speed to Medium.Turn the printer off and on again.Try faxing. If you are still unable to fax at this point then we can attempt a factory reset. I will send you a private message regarding how to do that shortly. If you are still unable to fax after that then the printer will need to be replaced. You can contact HP support by clicking on this link. On the next page scroll down and fill out the form. • HP Officejet 6500A Plus won't work with Windows 10

Help!!   Officejet 6500Aplus won't print with windows 10. Every aplication just spits out blank pages when you print.

I have the same issue with my OJ 6500 (network connected).  And I've been just been sent on a wild goose chase to install the support assistant - which didn't actually resolve my issue.  When I go directly to the drivers, it recognizes my OS as Windows 10, but doesn't give me a matching driver package to download... How/when will this be resolved? Does anyone have a workaround? If I knew that my printer/scanner doesn't work anymore I certainly wouldn't have upgraded to Windows 10.  Win 8.1 wasn't perfect, but at least everything worked... Thanks for any suggestions!

  • OfficeJet 6500A Plus Goes Offline and Won't Come Back

I'm having  trouble with my OfficeJet 6500A Plus, keeping it "online" to the wireless network in my home.  I am trying to print from my HP Pavilion laptop which has been loaded with the latest software from the HP Support site.
The printer shows itself to be online to my router.  I've even run the Wireless Setup Wizard over again to reintroduce the printer to the router.  But, no, my laptop considers the printer to be "offline" and, if I try to remove and reinstall the printer, Windows can't find the printer on the network.
By the way, my Pavilion laptop is new, purchased in July and it's running on Windows 8.1.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi rhd1884,
I understand you're looking for a way to install your Officejet 6500A Plus printer on your new Mavericks operating system. I'd be happy to help you with this.
There definitely is another way to install the printer. It can be done using the Apple software. To give you the right instructions, I just need to know if the printer is connected via a USB cable or is it wireless?
Once I know the connection type, I can give you the proper instructions!

  • HP Officejet 6500A Plus will not maintain wireless connection reliably

For the HP EXPERTS on Expert Day, April 18, 2012:
B.L.A.T. (Bottom Line At Top):  We have an HP Officejet 6500A Plus purchased about 5 months ago.  We wanted to use it as a wireless-connected printer in another room besides our home office.  It is useless to us because it will not maintain its wireless connection, even sitting just a few feet from the router in the same room.  Except for numerous hours of troubleshooting, we have left it sitting powered up, but unused and idle, for almost the entire 5 months in our home office.  DURING ALL THAT IDLE TIME, IT HAS LOGGED OVER 3,200 DISCONNECTS, at a consistent rate of 24 disconnects every 24 hours, even though it ALWAYS reports that the wireless signal quality is “EXCELLENT” (all this is according to the Wireless Network Test Reports we’ve printed throughout the last 5 months).  So our question is, what is it that this printer is trying to do once an hour over a wireless connection that is causing these thousands of disconnects?  And how can we stop it?
NOTE!  Before you round up the usual suspects (namely our router and our PC firewalls) please note that we also bought an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus ON THE SAME DAY as the Officejet 6500A Plus.  The 8600 was also installed with a wireless connection, and has worked without a single network issue for the entire 5 months.
NOW, FOR THE REST OF THE STORY…
WHO WE ARE:  My wife and I have worked on HP equipment for 33 years, starting in 1979 as corporate customers of HP when we worked for Exxon; then we both worked for HP directly for 17 years; and we’ve now used dozens of pieces of HP equipment in our home during the last 12 years in retirement.  We’re primarily software folks, so we’re not exactly experts in hardware and networking, but on the other hand, this ain’t our first rodeo either.
    OUR CONFIGURATION:
PC’s – All running Windows 7 x64 with all important patches applied and Norton Internet Security 2012:  HPE-270f and HP AIO 200-Quad, each with full 6500A and 8600A drivers installed on wireless connection.  These 2 PC’s themselves can connect either wirelessly or via Ethernet to our home network.  The 270f has a dual-band wireless board.  Both bands work.  We also have a new dv7t laptop with only the full 6500A driver installed via wireless connection.  The laptop is now upstairs and it’s connected to our home network wirelessly without any issues.  (This is where we had hoped to also put the 6500A, but it needs to work reliably via wireless connection.)
ROUTER:  Netgear N600 WNDR3700 providing Ethernet and wireless networking.  Router provides a very strong wireless signal throughout the house.  No wireless problems with any other equipment including an iPod, two Kindle Fires besides all the HP equipment.
PRINTERS:  Besides the two HP printers, the HPE-270f PC has a Canon MP960 installed on it.  And if we can’t get the 6500A working right or replaced with something that does work right, we may be buying our second Canon printer.  By the way, on the 6500A, ePrint and App’s are set to ON, but of course they’re not being used, just like everything else on this AIO.
OTHER:  We also have a Sonos music system that connects to our network via Ethernet and has its own proprietary mesh network (on another frequency) for transmitting ripped music wirelessly to speaker units throughout our house.  (If you aren’t familiar with this totally cool system, check out sonos.com).  We’ve never seen any evidence of interference between these two wireless networks, or our wireless phone sets either.
HP TOOLS AVAILABLE ON ALL 3 PC’s:  HPU
    UPDATE 5.003.001.001 (reporting everything up-to-date); HPHDU 3.1.0.17; HPPDU 5.0.0.015 and HPNDU 4.3.0.002.
SYMPTOMS:  The 6500A Plus installs quickly and easliy, and connects wirelessly just fine during installation.  But sometime over the next hour (usually less), it disconnects and won’t print from PC applications.  Sometimes the application puts up an “Unable to communicate with printer” screen, even though the PC usually thinks the printer is “ready”.  Other times, the PC thinks the printer is offline (but printers don’t have “offline” buttons anymore!).  Often, if you just leave everything alone, the 6500A will somehow reconnect and print out the spooled file 5-30 MINUTES later.  So it does usually seem to be able to recover given some time, but that doesn’t always fit our schedule!   Occasionally, turning the wireless radio on the printer off and back on will fix it right away.  But usually, you have to power the printer completely off, and then back on.  As far as we know, that always fixes it…..until the next disconnect a few minutes later!
PREVIOUSLY TRIED:  After reading some of HP’s wireless network support websites, I manually assigned a fixed IP address to this printer.  It didn’t seem to matter; according to the wireless network test report, it still logs disconnects at the rate of one per hour, and all the failure symptoms were the same.
We also dabbled a bit with setting this printer as “trusted” to the Firewall, but that didn’t seem to matter either.
Next, we connected the printer via Ethernet.  The printer immediately started to work, even though it had just been in its “failed” state over the wireless connection.  As far as we know, it never failed while connected via Ethernet.  This seems to point to a purely wireless hardware/firmware problem on the printer itself.
Late last year, I tried two different chat sessions about this with the inter-continental AIO support teams, each one lasting several hours.  Unfortunately, none of their optimistic solution scripts seemed to fit our problem.  They both seemed determined to reconfigure the 6500A as a TCP/IP printer, which of course worked fine initially, just like everything else.  At this point, they would understandably want to close the chat.  But 20-30 minutes later, we could no longer print to it.  During the second chat, they got into one of our PC’s remotely and effectively turned off the spooler (by selecting “Print Directly” or something like that).  After that, all was well again (as usual) UNTIL the printer disconnected, at which time attempting to print from that PC would HANG the application (since the spooler was no longer buffering) and eventually hang the whole PC.  One giant leap backwards.  That’s when I gave up on the multi-hour chat sessions.
The three diagnostic utilities (HDU, PDU, NDU) have been tried over and over.  When the printer is in its disconnected state, the DU’s usually don’t detect the 6500A at all, or if they do detect it, they are unable to fix anything.  Frankly, it’s easier to just power the printer off (which takes about a minute) and power the printer back on (which takes more than a minute) and then wait for the spooler to kick in (usually about 30 seconds).  BUT WE DON’T CONSIDER THAT A SOLUTION!!
B.L.A.B.  (Bottom Line At Bottom):  We have used up nearly the entire black ink cartridge and at least a ream of paper troubleshooting this brand new printer, to no avail.  This printer is useless to us unless it can maintain a wireless connection reliably.  Please help!
    Thanks –
    Bob and Jane

I bought the Officejet 6500A Plus about one month and have experienced the very same problem. I tried to remedy this problem following suggestions in a number of different posts (static IP, router, firewalls etc), all to no avail. Last week I called support. The support I received by the tech over several hours and different days for a week was very good. However none of his suggestions corrected the connection issue. After today's recommended fix failed, he advised HP is aware of this issue with the 6500 and other affected printers. He claimed HP was working on a firmware upgrade. He did not know when the update would be provided. The tech also claimed HP acknowledged this problem in a written announcement. He agreed to email the announcement to me. I haven't received it. This has been the only problem I've had with the 6500

  • HP Officejet 6500A Plus not staying connected to wireless network

Just picked up a HP Officejet 6500A Plus e-All-in-One Printer - E710n the other week and set it all up and it was working wonderfully. But I noticed after it goes into sleep mode it disconnects from the wireless network and doesn't reconnect.
I will get a overview of how I have it all set up.
I have a DSL modem with a TRENDnet TEW-639GR router connected to it. I have set my router to reserve IP addresses for the computer and printer. That way I can leave the computer and printer wireless IP settings as automatic and they will always get the same IP address. I do this for the wireless network at my parents place as well and it works perfectly with their HP Photosmart C7280.
I also set up the HP ePrintCenter feature on the printer so that I can print by sending the printer an email. When I first set it all up this was working great. I tested it all and it was awesome. When I would log onto the ePrint website it would show as connected and it was all good.
So then what happened was it was all fine then the next day when we want to print something the computer says the printer is offline. I go on the HP ePrintCenter website and it says not connected. I print out a wireless network report page and it says not connected. After I printed that test page, I guess it woke up the printer enough or something as it then connected to the router and printed fine as well as showed up as connected on the ePrintCenter website. So all was good. Then the next day the printer goes to sleep and again it shows as disconnected.
Should it not be staying connected in sleep mode? How will the printer know something is being sent to it and that it should wake up if it is not staying connected?
Any suggestions of what I should change with the settings? I suppose I could try setting the IP settings as static on the printer itself but I shouldn't need to as I set it to static on the router. When it finally does reconnect it does always keep the same IP. If that is what is required I guess I could do that but then what is the point in having an automatic setting if it doesn't work? I would rather have this issue fixed that have to do a work around for it.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
The printer should stay connected to your wireless network after the printer enters the sleep mode.
This is not an expected behavior.
I believe such an issue may be caused due to a signal quality or any conflict as too many broadcust on the same channel.
Please try the following steps in order to better understand the issue:
Follow the Wireless Setup Wizard if your printer currently disconnected
    Enter the Setup menu.
    Enter the Network menu.
    Click Wireless.
    Click Wireless Test Report.
What is the signal quality provided by the report and what channel used to broadcast by your router?
If you may scan and attach the report, it may help to better understand any possible cause.

    Shlomi
