Officejet 8600 Plus "scanner reported error" Mac scanning

I recently purchased the Officejet 8600 Plus and have run into problems scanning. When scanning using the ADF, I frequently get a message saying, "Scanner reported an error. The scan was not completed because the operation was cancelled while scanning was in progress." The only way to escape from this situation is to turn off the OJ, power it back on, and then try scanning again. I haven't seen the issue using the flatbed, but I've used the ADF far more than the flatbed. This happens both when connected via wifi and USB, so it's not a networking problem. I have tried scanning via Apple's Image Capture as well as HP Scan and I get the error using both. I have all the latest software and firmware for both the Officejet and my Mac. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the HP software, to no avail. This situation is tremendously frustrating as one of the main reasons I purchased this product was the wifi scanning feature. Without a solution to this problem I will consider this product to be defective and will return it. So, any suggestions as to how to alleviate the problem? Thanks. System info: Macbook Pro 17" (early 2011)OS X 10.8.5

I have an HP MF127fw connected to Mac computers and am experiencing exactly the same problem. Scans from the ADF always fail with that same "scan canceled" message. Preview, Image Capture, or Scan from Print & Scan all receive the same error. USB or WiFi connections make no difference. What is wrong with the HP connection? Here it is 2015 and there have been over 200 viewers of the original posting regarding the inability to scan. Hasn't anyone found a way to overcome this problem?

  • Can't Downgrade firmware on HP Officejet 8600 Plus!!!

    Hi
In my office I have to scan and copy many many Legal size documents per day, I recently have aquired this awesome printer Hp Officejet 8600 Plus
The first day I was able to scan a bunch of 2 sided legal paper, very awesome, but then I upgraded the printer, as always confident with the upgrades, but as a result of that I was unable to scan legal size paper again
I was reading a lot of similar issues, and i Cant believe that this is an official desicion, the printer can perfectly scan legal size papper, so the solution is to downgrade the FW to an older version, but I Cant, I tryed with Jetadmin, with OJP8600_N911gn_1232A.exe, and copying the upgrade file *.ful directly to the printer
    And always the same thing:
-in the screen of the printer appears the message (Printing) for a few seconds and then backs to the home screen again
In the computter with Jetadmin it stay on 0% for hours
-With OJP8600_N911gn_1232A.exe and the modded EnterpriseDU.ini Appears an error after 20 minutes, and ask me for reset the printer
-Copying the *.ful file on the Printer, just put the Printing screen on the printer 2 or 3 seconds and then backs to the home screen.
I tryed by USb cable, ethernet and even Wireless
Is a security lock in the new firmwares?
How Can I Downgrade the printer?, is urgent, i need to scan a lot of Legal documents
And please activate the option by our own risk option, for legal scan in the next update, I'm tired and dissapointed...
    thanks

  • MACBOOK PRO SPORADICALLY PRINTS TO HP NEW OFFICEJET 8600 PLUS

I bought a brand new HP Officejet 8600 Plus and have been having sporadic printing problems.
    MacBookPro OSX 10.6.8
    Router:  Airport Extreme
    Wireless printing
I also have a PC with windows and have no problems printing at all using same wireless router.  When this has happened before, I have shut everything down, disconnected everything, reconnected everything, removed the printer from the macbook, added it back on and then it has worked.
This time - nothing - the document sits in the queue - says connected and . . . nothing!
    Please Help!

    Hi  @Lyn99
Since the issue does not arise when you print from the Windows computer, we know the issue is either related to the Mac or the router, not the printer. I will happily do all I can to help you figure out what the root cause of the issue is and with any luck resolve the issue!
This printer has something called Wireless Direct. Lets enable the wireless direct, which allows the printer to broadcast its own network, then add the Mac to the printers network and see if you can print. If you can print this way, we will know the issue is not the Mac, it is the network, and if you can not print well it is the Mac
On the front panel of the printer, go to the Setup menu by arrowing over to the wrench, then select Network and choose Wireless Direct. When you have turned on the Wireless Direct, go to the Mac and click on the Airport/wifi symbol and choose the printers network (it will say something like HP Print 8600 and part of the hardware address).
Once the Mac is on the printers network, try to print from the Mac. Let me know the outcome and we can go from there.
Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you.

  • PageManager does not see HP officejet 6500A Plus scanner

I just purchased Presto! PageManager 9.0. It is not able to acquire my new HP Officejet 6500A Plus scanner function. The NewSoft technical support said I need the Twain driver for the printer. HP said it is an operating system issue. Any suggestions? Thanks

    yeah-that's a pain
apparently there's an update for Page manager 9.0. This is where things get a bit messy.HP says it's in Apple's hands, at least in terms of Yosemite, so if you have run Apple Software Update and it hasn't found an updated driver for your HP OfficeJet 6500 A Plus Scanner, then that's it for now.  You can use Preview or maybe image capture.  If it helps you any, the scanner driver is included in HP's all-in-one software, and that function should be listed under printers and scanners, under system preferences, then choose "scan" then "Open Scanner" then "Show Details"  and the scanning screen should show up
I think there's an updated PageManager for the Epson, too....
    Sheesh !

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus won't print or scan wirelessly using Mac OS 10.

    Mac OS 10.9
    Wireless
My printer was working fine until today.  Then when I used the control panel to scan a page I went through the steps and got to scanning and got the message I needed to enable "Scan to Computer" in the HP Utility.  I went there and it was unchecked.  Seems I had this problem every time I did a new scan job in the past.  It wouldn't retain than check.  So I checked it and after awhile I got the message "Communication Error" and to check my connections and if that didn't work restart my computer and printer.  I did that and also restarted the router but it didn't help.
Then I tried printing from Word, which has always worked but it didn't this time.  The printer icon on the right of the dock came up, bounced a few times then disappeared with nothing happening on the printer.
So I deleted and reinstalled the printer.  No help.  I downloaded and installed HP software and firmware updates.  No help.  I went through wireless setup.  No help
BTW, all along I got good "Wireless Network Test" results.  I says it's connected but nothing happens when I try any functions of the printer.
If I can find a USB cable I will try to see if wired works.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hey @neoflyer,
I would like to assist you today with resolving the wireless printing and scanning issues you're experiencing on your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer on your Mac OS X 10.9 Operating System. You mentioned that you have powercycled the devices, reran the wireless setup, and uninstalled and reinstalled the software and drivers to no avail. I'm going to suggest a few additional troubleshooting steps to verify if this is a computer issue or a network issue.
Step 1: Gather the IP and Open the EWS:
    1. On the screen of your printer select the wireless button:
    2. Under the Wireless information you should see your IP address
    3. Open up your internet browser on your Mac computer and in the website address bar just type in your IP address. Please do not include www.
    4. After you enter your IP address in the website bar go to that website
    5. If the website for your printer opens than that proves with 100% certainty that your printer and computer are 'talking' to each other on your wireless network. If the website fails to open than you have a network communication issue with your router.
If the website fails to open please powercycle your network again:
How to Properly Powercycle a Network:
First, unplug the power cable to your Router
Once your Router is unplugged, turn off your printer
    Next, shut down your computer
After 30 seconds to 1 minutes, plug your Router back in
    Next, turn on your printer
    Turn on the computer
After a few moments check on your computer and ensure that the internet is working. Once it is, hit the wireless button again on the printer to see if your printer got a new IP address. Using the IP address enter it in the address bar of your internet browser and now see if the website for the printer opens.
If the website for the printer opens successfully please follow the steps below:
Step 1: Uninstall Drivers and Software:
From the computer desktop, double-click the Macintosh HD, and then click Applications.
    Click the Hewlett-Packard folder.
Double-click the HP Uninstaller, and then click Continue.
Select the product to uninstall, and then click Uninstall.
When prompted, type the Administrator name and Password, and then click OK.
From the Macintosh HD menu, click Users.
    Click the correct user name.
    Click Library.
    Click Preferences.
Click and hold the cursor on the first file that starts with "HP," and then drag the file to the Trash icon on the taskbar. Complete this step for each file that starts with "HP."
    Close out of Preferences.
Click the Trash icon on the taskbar, click the Empty button, and then click OK to empty the trash.
Step 2: Verify and Repair your Disk Permissions on the Mac:
Open Macintosh HD and go to Applications
    Go to the Utilities Folder
    Open the Disk Utility
Select the Hard Drive volume you are using (usually on the left)
    Select Verify Disk Permissions
Once that process is done, select Repair Disk Permissions
Step 3: Check for Apple Updates:
    Go to Apple
    Select System Preferences
    Select Software Update
    Click Update Now
    Install your available updates
    Restart your computer
Step 4: Reinstall your Software and Drivers:
    1. Please click the following link to download the appropriate Mac OS X 10.9 drivers for your printer: Mac: HP Officejet Pro 8600 series Full Feature Software and Drivers
    2. Once downloaded, run through the step by step screens to reinstall your network printer
    3. Once the printer is reinstalled, attempt a print and a scan!
Please let me know if these steps resolved your issue. Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums. Good luck!

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus scanner failure

I have an Officejet Pro 8600 Plus all-in-one. When I first got it, all of the features worked fine: print, scan, and copy. A few weeks ago, it started to not scan or copy, and printer was hit or miss. I have managed to resolve the printing issue, but it still wont scan or copy. I have tried uninstalling the printer both from the hp folder and control panel and then reinstalling the driver (I have the full feature one). I have tried the scan and print doctor, and it doesnt make it past the second step. The error message the printer displays is, "scanner failure: unable to scan, copy, or send a fax." I have also followed the steps to go into services, and both of the necessary dependencies are listed for the WIA, and the RPC and shell hardware are both started. Please help.

    Hello ld2hx,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with scanning, copying and faxing.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
Please click on the following link for A 'Connection Error' or 'No Computer Detected' Error Message Displays during Scanning.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus losing wireless connectivity, cannot scan to computer

In our office, we have roughly 4 computers using the HP Officeject Pro 8600 Plus, all of which are connected wirelessly. The printer was previously connected to the internet wirelessly with no problems. A couple of days ago however our computers started randomly disconnecting. The printing function would work for a bit, then disconnect. I found the only solution to this problem was to hit the button on our wireless router that resends the wireless signal out for connectivity.
We hardwired the printer with an ethernet cable and I myself didn't see any further problems regarding connectivity but a couple of the other computers had spotty connections.  Again, each time this can be remedied by hitting the button on the wireless router.
Today  however we had an additional problem, after trying to scan a document through the automatic document feeder, the printer said it was jammed (although it wasnt). When we went to rescan, the scan to computer function was no longer working. I can scan by hitting the scan button on my HP Printer Assitant interface, and I can also scan to email, but cannot scan to computer.
I have gone through several forums and haven't been able to find a solution. I personally use Windows 8, but other people in our office are using older versions of Windows. We've tried unplugging, restarting, hardwiring, resetting wireless settings, uninstalling, etc. etc. Before a few days ago the pritner was working fine for a number of months.
If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus wont print from Mac 10.5.8

    Hello,
I just purchased the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus and I'm running it wired through my router.  I'm able to print with my PC, my IPad and my phone but I cant print with my mac running OS 10.5.8.
When I try to print it puts the document in the print que and says "printing" but nothing happens at the printer.  I can scan to my mac from the printer and everything seems to indicate that the printer is connected.
I have downloaded the latest HP driver for Mac 10.5.  Also i have reset the printer (holding down the option key while deleting the printer from the system preferences) several times and re-added the printer.  Still nothing.
    Any ideas?
    Greg

    Reset the printing system:
    - Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
    - Option click the '+' sign and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and then next to the "Use" pulldown, select the printer model (not AirPrint). Wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus scanner has become cloudy

I used the scanner to scan hundreds of photos and it was working perfectly throughout.
A couple weeks later I try scan some more and all of a sudden the left edge of my scan is coming out all cloudy.
    For example, see http://www.lovettsoftware.com/downloads/hp/cloudy.png
Is there a way to clean, or recalibrate or do anything to fix this or is the scanner toast ?

Thanks for the link to the user guide.  I tried all the glass cleaning ideas, but I see no improvement in scan quality.
I switched to a Canon Pixma scanner and the cloud is gone, so I'll go with that for now.
    For comparison:
The bad scan from HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus: http://www.lovettsoftware.com/downloads/hp/scan4.png
The good scan from Canon Pixma: http://www.lovettsoftware.com/downloads/hp/scan8.png
Notice the gray fuzzy tint around the top left edges is gone in the Canon scan.
Feel free to pass this along to your engineers so they can work on designing a scanner that lasts better.  I really didn't do that many scans, I did 565 scans, in fact.  I would expect the scanner to last a lot longer than that.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus Scanner Software

    Hi,
I'm a big fan of HP products.  My last several printers, scanners and computers have all been HP.
I recently purchased the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus to replace an older machine with similar capabilities (ADF, duplex printing, etc).  The previous machine was also an HP printer.
The problem that I'm having is that the software seems to  have been downgraded.  The software on my previous machine had the ability to automatically parse pictures laid on the flatbed scanner into individual JPGs.  With the software on this machine, it seems that I need to manually crop each image.  The options for optimizing each image, by removing scratches, automatically adjusting color, sharpening, etc. are all gone.
I really miss these features.  I did find that I had been using a 'Basic' version of the software.  I installed the full version and found it slightly different, but it still lacks the automatic image selection and image tweaks that I made such heavy use of.
Is there any way to get these options back?
    Thank you,
    --MrXmas

    NeonSkeleton,
That is unfortunate.  It's a **bleep** nice machine except that the software is really a step backwards.
Is there any way to use the older software from another HP device?  The standard microsoft scanner drivers don't do anything towards my need.  The network connection seems to be a stumbling block for most of what's out there.  I'd be happy to hard-wire via USB if that could get me the software upgrade (the speed over USB is a considerable improvement as well).
If it isn't possible to use another HP driver, do you have any recommendations for 3rd party drivers?
    Thanks for your help,
    Jim

  • Cannot Access IP Web Browser Configuration Page OfficeJet 8600 Plus

    Win 7 64-bit

    Wireless Connection
    Hi:
The printout of wireless network test page shows IP address for HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus as: http://192.168.1.104 (The HP Home Network Diagnostic Utility v4.3.0.002 also shows: 192.168.1.104)
When I try to access http://192.168.1.104 with either IE 9 or Firefox 10 I get an error message: "The website is unable to display the webpage"
But, on the same computer I CAN access  http://192.168.1.103 HP Officejet 6480 web browser configuration page with either IE 9 or Firefox 10
Why I can't access the web configuration page: http://192.168.1.104
    Thanks
FYI: I set the router to various other network modes, channel widths, channels and ssid broadcast on/off, and also removed power from router and printer, reconnected power and restarted computer, all these efforts did NOT allow access to http://192.168.1.104

On the front of the printer: Setup > Network > Wireless Setup Wizard.  Run it.
Next, on your PC, delete all instances of your printer in Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
Finally,  re-add the printer this way:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing. Get its IP from a Network Test printed from the front panel of the printer.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Devices & Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
