Officejet 8600 second drawer

Checking to see if HP has created a fix for the Officjet 8600 e-all in one printer for drawer 2. The 2nd drawer was part of the purchase, but it the printer doesn't recognize it as part of the printer. HP said it was a known issue and they were working on a solution for this and that was over 2 weeks ago. The printer out of the box never recognized drawer 2. Anyone know if it is a resolved yet? Is there a d/l patch?

Hi jbear12,
Try the following:
1. Power down the printer
2. Uninstall Tray 2 (remove the tray from the printer)
3. Power up the printer.
4. Power down the printer
5. Re-install Tray 2 (Place the printer back on the tray)
6. Power on the printer
7. Check to see if the tray is now recognized
Hope this helps

  • HP OfficeJet 8600 All-In-One cannot be connected

I just bought a new HP OfficeJet 8600 All-in-One printer.  It's a wireless unit and initally connected to my home
network no problem and I could print from several puters in the house fine.  I have Bell internet with a wireless
    home router that uses DHCP.
Today, my wifes win7 laptop is unable to print to it for some reason.  I tried to delete the printer from her computer
and re-add it however, the computer when I run the HP installer software to reach the printer, it isn't able to connect
to it.  During the installation, it say:
    Discovering Device....
    and never leaves there.
However, I can define the printer in Windows "Add a Printer" using the HP OfficeJet K8600 printer driver.
One thing on the IP address that the printer is using.  I checked it on the printers configuration vs what the windows
printer definition had and it was wrong on the printer driver configuration.  I used the HP utility to update the printer IP
address to what the printer is currently using.
Any ideas on why the printer cannot be re-added using the HP all-in-one installer?

I would bet it is your router.  Its supplied by your ISP, right?
First, restart the router by pulling its power cord momentarily.
Next, set a static IP address for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS. You can choose another external DNS if you wish.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

  • Does the Officejet 8600 Pro Premium N911n printer perform auto tray selection?

I have an Officejet 8600 Pro Pemium N911n printer,  CN577A with two trays. My Operating Sysem is Win8,64bit,there are no error messages, no system changes.
The HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in One series User Guide states that By default, the printer draws media from Tray1.If Tray1 is empty, the printer draws media from Tray2(if it is installed and loaded with media. I have Tray lock disabled ,Tay1 the default Tray and Automatic Tray Selection enabled.Prior to making these selections,I contacted HP support via email to report that this option was not working. I received a response that there is no method that will automatically select a tray when one tray is empty. The User 's manual states otherwise..This option might not work but it is part of this series of printers. I have both trays loaded and I will determine if it works after Tray1 is empty. Does anyone have one of these printers and the auto Tray function works? Thanks.

i have an officejet 8600  that ive been having about a year its connected to my pc wirelessly, i am running windows 7 on pc, every so often my pc will say that my printer is offline but the printer says it is still connected to the network i have printed the Network Configuration Page from the printer and everything is the same as before...IP Address same...I read some answers to previous questions that said to go into advanced settings and change the IP Settings from Automatic to Manual...I've done that with no result....I have also restarted Router, Printer, and PC....I have even disconnected power to all 3 and then reconnected with same problem....can someone please help me....

Let's set a static IP address in this manner for the printer:

  • Officejet 8600 is there an easy way to print in color occasionally?

I have an HP Officejet 8600 connected by cable to an un-networked desktop running Windows 7 Pro. I have the default set to  "Print in Gray Scale" with "Black Ink Only". I would like an easy way to occasionally print in color without the multi-step hassle of going through advanced options that also change the default parameters each time. Is there a way to install a second driver for the same printer? That way I could name one "HP 8600 Black Ink" and one "HP 8600 Color" with different default settings. That would be a much easier way to occasionally print in color. My previous HP printer had the capability to select custom "Presets" from a drop-down menu, but that seems to be missing from the 8600 software.

Hello there @SKman , Welcome to the Forums! I hope you enjoy your experience
I understand you are looking for an easier way to occasionally print in color with your Officejet 8600. I would like to share my suggestions that may help you with your concern.
First of all, you can have two drivers installed on your computer, one USB and one wireless, and have the driver settings different (wireless driver to print black only and the USB driver to print in color).
The other option for you to try is to have your "black ink only" setting selected in the print driver itself (seems like you have it set this way currently) so all jobs will automatically print in black ink only. When say you are printing a document in color, change the print settings in the program you are printing from to print in color for that single job, that way the default settings in the printer driver are still set to print in black and only that one job will print in color.
I hope my post was helpful!

  • Officejet 8600 won't pull from Tray 2 after Mac OS update

I recently installed the Mac OSX 10.10 Yosemite update.  Immediately after, my HP Officejet 8600 all-in-one would not pull from the optional second tray.  There is a 10/22/14 driver update that says it is for OSSX 10.10, but does not fix the problem.  After trying every single solution I could think of, including deleting all printers from my system, repairing permissions, installing the new driver, uninstalling and re-installing the second tray, among other things, nothing worked.
The problem appears to be that every time I print, it unselects the "Optional Paper Tray Input" setting from the OS settings.  One work around is to go in and make sure that box is checked each time I print, which is a pain and only works about 80% of the time.
The printer is an office printer and Tray 1 is envelopes.  While I could put regular paper in Tray 1, that would be unfair to the other people in the office who use the printer and would need to manually do an envelope each time.
I called HP support and they basically told me that it was a bug that was not currently fixed.  They said they would e-mail me when a new updated driver is released (I'll be holding my breath for that).  I'm posting this here hoping that admins notice it and get moving on that update so that I can get my printer back.

I have the same problem as everyone else in this thread.  I've been on another thread, here:  http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printing-Issues-Troubleshooting/HP-8600-won-t-print-from-tray-2-in-upda... .
I have spent hours of time on the phone and in chat sessions with HP, then Apple, and then HP again.  The HP reps made it clear that the problem is in the HP update that was issued to work with OS 10.10, and that a fix would be coming soon.  That was over a month ago, and still nothing.
Since HP reps seem to monitor this thread, could someone from HP inform us as to when there will be a solution?  The last HP software update for this printer was October 22nd, so you've had plenty of time to fix this problem, which HP has repeatedly promised to do, but failed to do.

  • Officejet 8600 Pro+ Power-switch lamp cycling bright then dim

My Officejet 8600 Pro+ printer is brand new, and is connected via my wired network. It's working perfectly so far. Wi-Fi and fax are both (deliberately) turned off / disabled & not needed.
The Power-switch has a nice green light to indicate that the printer has "power" OK - and the lamp seems to have two "on" states, namely 'dim', and 'bright'.
The printer seems to go into "Sleep Mode" OK, and the control panel turns off as expected after my preset "Sleep" interval. (I'm not using the scheduling options.)  It also wakes-up OK when I send it a print job.  Again, everything is fine so far ...
While the printer is in this low-power 'ECO' state, the intensity of the green Power-switch lamp varies slowly between bright and dim, on a roughly 6-second cycle - 3 seconds at 'bright', then 3 seconds at 'dim', and it never stops cycling - bright then dim then bright etc..
BUT ... and here's my question ... should this lamp be staying 'dim' while the printer is asleep?
Or, does the fact that it is returning to 'bright' every few seconds imply that it is somehow failing to STAY fully 'asleep'?
I can't find any clues about this in the printer's manual.
Perhaps I should raise a query with the HP Support folks, but I thought I'd ask here first.
Thanks in anticipation. Edited to add:
I'd be glad to know whether any other Officejet 8600 owner (or the owner of any other Officejet model) sees this same bright/dim behaviour on their Power-switch lamp?  Thanks.

Thanks pcwizard, I got the same reply yesterday from my HP Customer Care enquiry, and I'm satisfied now that my machine isn't cycling repeatedly into sleep mode and then 3 seconds later coming half "out" of sleep mode! I know the HP design folks may never look at these Forum entries, but I'd hint to them that perhaps this ambiguous "sleep" indication might be made an optional choice, so that I could choose a steady low-intensity light instead.  It's not an enormous issue of course, but in my little "office" space, this Power button is right in my line-of-sight as I work, and - even though I now know that my printer is perfectly healthy - the slowly-pulsing light had become a recurring distraction until I covered it with a little 'disc' of semi-opaque sticky tape   Thanks again.Colin

  • Can't Downgrade firmware on HP Officejet 8600 Plus!!!

    Hi
In my office I have to scan and copy many many Legal size documents per day, I recently have aquired this awesome printer Hp Officejet 8600 Plus
The first day I was able to scan a bunch of 2 sided legal paper, very awesome, but then I upgraded the printer, as always confident with the upgrades, but as a result of that I was unable to scan legal size paper again
I was reading a lot of similar issues, and i Cant believe that this is an official desicion, the printer can perfectly scan legal size papper, so the solution is to downgrade the FW to an older version, but I Cant, I tryed with Jetadmin, with OJP8600_N911gn_1232A.exe, and copying the upgrade file *.ful directly to the printer
    And always the same thing:
-in the screen of the printer appears the message (Printing) for a few seconds and then backs to the home screen again
In the computter with Jetadmin it stay on 0% for hours
-With OJP8600_N911gn_1232A.exe and the modded EnterpriseDU.ini Appears an error after 20 minutes, and ask me for reset the printer
-Copying the *.ful file on the Printer, just put the Printing screen on the printer 2 or 3 seconds and then backs to the home screen.
I tryed by USb cable, ethernet and even Wireless
Is a security lock in the new firmwares?
How Can I Downgrade the printer?, is urgent, i need to scan a lot of Legal documents
And please activate the option by our own risk option, for legal scan in the next update, I'm tired and dissapointed...
    thanks

I understand your Officejet 8600 Plus is not connecting to your wireless network. I will do my best to assist you! Have you tried reconnecting the wireless on your printer? If not, please follow these steps: (This information is stated here.)
On the printer touch screen, touch the Right Arrow ( ) to display the second navigation screen.
Touch the Setup icon ( ).
Touch Network , touch Wireless Setup Wizard , and then touch Continue . The printer searches for available networks.
Touch the name of your network, and then touch OK .

  • Officejet 8600 pro plus time zone issue

has anyone successfully set the time zone on the Officejet 8600 pro plus? There's a webpage for the device to setup the local date & time - it has a nebulous button to 'set the time zone to the same as you computer' or something like that.. I can't get it to work under Win7 IE or firefox - the printer seems to always be stuck in UTC. That means I have to set the printers local time to UTC to make the timestamps of email scans appear correct. Any ideas? It seems like older officejets had an option to explicitly set the time zone from the device's webpage but that's gone. BTW.. I've upgraded to the latest firmware (v CLP1CN1150CR - 15-feb-2012), but the problem persists.

You should be able to do that via the LCD panel from the printer.

  • Officejet 8600 Plus e N911g - Workaround for Toolbox Ink Level display

This is with a hard wired Ethernet hookup. I bypassed the router so as to eliminate any problem passing signal thru. It worked with and without the router.
Until HP comes up with a fix for the two way communication problem that everybody is having, I stumbled on a way to workaround this.
    1. Turn printer OFF
2.Start HP Officejet 8600 program from desktop icon or from HP folder in Programs.
3.Select "Estimated Ink Levels" from Shopping Resources.
    4. Toolbox (Network) should appear. (The computer is unable to establish two-way communication with the device.)
    5.Turn printer ON
    6. Select "Estimated Ink Level " tab. Ink levels should appear. If not, then select "Refresh" once or more times.
All other tabs should  also be available. This will only work one time. You will have to turn printer OFF again and start procedure over.
This worked on Windows 7 x64 and Windows XP 32bit both on the same network with a Linksys DIR-655 router.

    Hello,
If you are referring to the printer display in your below description "Then abt 6-weeks ago the display option for Scanning and Display Ink Levels just disappeared,", then i guess you may have to do the follwoing....
1> While the printer is ON, unplug all the cords from back of the printer.
2> Wait for full 60 seconds.
3> plug in the power cord directly into a wall outlet ( bypass the surge / power strip ) and then into the printer.
4> If the printer is not powering on, press the ON button once to do so.
5> If the display issue still exists, then try tilting the display.
6> If issue still persists, then call HP Tech Support for further assistance.

  • Scan to computer as PDF for HP OfficeJet 8600 Pro plus e results in a single pdf doc.

Hello. I have previously scanned docs to my computer running Windows 7 Ultimate using this printer with no problem. However, I think I did them as "everyday" format. Today I had 5 documents to scan to computer so I could have elec copies and also could attach them to emails. When I was done with one doc the screen asked if I had another to scan. I clicked "yes" rather than done. To my dismay all the docs came out fine as PDF on my computer, but they were all connected as a single doc.??? How do I do multiple can to computer as PDF so they result in separate docs?
    Thanks

    Hello @mjomega,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your Officejet 8600 is scanning single documents, instead of multiple documents. I will do my best to assist you! When scanning multiple pages, it's a lot easier to perform this option from your computer using the HP software.
I am going to provide a HP document on How to Scan: Windows 7. Click on "How to scan multiple pages into a single file". This will allow you to scan from the Printer Assistant.

  • Officejet 8600 driver won't install on a 64-bit Server 2008 R2

Hello, this has been discussed before but it looks like the links with resolutions are dead.  A client has an Officejet 8600 all-in-one printer and wants to use the 2008 R2 64-bit server as a desktop with the printer directly attached.  One of the proposed solutions was to install Desktop Expeirence, which I did, but still no go.  I get a message that the drivers are only for Win XP, 2003, and Vista - the current system is not compatible.  The problem is, the drivers are downloaded from the HP site when 2008 R2 64-bit is specified.  Are there any workarounds, or should I just consider this printer uninstallable?  Thanks.

Hi Stephen00101010 , sorry to hear that you are unable to get the printer installed. I do apologize for the inconvenience, however the operating system that you are using is not supported with the use of this printer.
