Officejet 8600 setup cartridges

Hello,
A few days ago i reset my Officejet 8600 to factory settings, in order to resolve some problems. After this reset however, i was told to use the setupcartridges to reinstall the printer. Unfortunately i don't have these anymore, and the printer's warranty is expired. Is there a way to recieve or buy these setup cartridges. The printer is used for voluntary purposes, so it would be a shame if our organisation won't be able to use the printer again.
Thanks in advance!

You will need to contact HP and purchase setup cartridges, they are not available through retail channels.  If you are in the US or Canada call 1-800-HPINVENt.
It is a bit late now for your case, but others considering a printer reset might benefit from the post here.

  • Findings on replacing (empty?) OfficeJet 8600 N911g ink cartridges

I want to note some interesting findings on replacing the "Setup cartridges."
The printer reported that the black ink was out and needed replacing.  It really did not report the CMY cartridges as out, although they were low.  Curiously though, the printer still continued printing anyway, even though the text was black.
When  I replaced it with the full K cartridge, suddenly the C and Y cartridges were empty!!  The M cartridge gave a level showing about an 1/8th.
So I removed the full K cartridge and put back in the (nearly emplty?) "setup type" K cartridge:  there was still a bit of a K level reading, but now all the C,M, and Y cartridges were empty!!!  What was going on?  Nothing in the M cartridge was used, and suddenly it was empty?
Ok, ok.  I accept the high probability that when one cartridge gets to empty, all the others probably get close to empty too.  I am not going to be suspicious like a great many people that the printer has the ability to sense one cartridge change (from empty to full), and so is on the alert to have the user also change the rest of the cartridges, no matter what the level of ink is.  It's probably the case all the cartridges should be switched out.
These experiments however indicate that the ink level sensing technology has a quality worse than the ability of the first Kia or Hyundai models to sense fuel levels in the tank.  How long have you been at the forefront of inkjet technology, HP??  Decades now?  And you're telling me that a magenta cartridge that was not sensed as empty  has the K cartridges switched from new (full) to old (nearly empty) back to new (full) again, and now all the color cartridges are sensed as empty??
I am glad I am not a suspicious person, HP, or I might be inclined to believe something funny is going on.
There is some other (unofficial?) HP support forum, and I read tens of messages of OJ8600(N911g) owners saying it was going to be their last HP product.  I hope I misunderstood them.  After all, I am not a suspicious guy.

There is a priming process when a new cartridge is installed to remove air from the printhead.  It primes all the colors and black whenever a cartridge is changed.  If a cartridge is near empty and a different cartridge is replaced the priming may cause that cartridge to now be reported as low.
I would suggest running the printer until it refuses to print as a cartridge actually becomes empty, then replace all the cartridges at once that are at low levels.
The initial low on ink indicator is set before the cartridges actually run out of ink to give you time to purchase a replacement. You do not need to replace the cartrdiges until they are actually depleted.

  • Got Officejet 6600 from third party vendor, had no setup cartridges.

My company bought an HP 6600 to use as a standalone copier. It's not hooked up to any computer. Our printer did not come with setup cartridges (All original packing intact, but company removed the setup cartridges for their own use.). This was communicated in the product info page where we bought the printer, so we were aware of this.
However, it seems we cannot set up the printer AT ALL without the setup cartridges. We have new 932/933XL cartridges for the printer, but we can't bypass the setup. It is patently insane that you cannot set this machine up without setup cartridges.
I would like to know if there is some way to bypass this setup, or if we can order a set of setup cartridges to use to turn this thing into something other than a giant plastic paperweight.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 print cartridge error

one or more cartridges appear to be damaged K.  Message appeared after replacing the exhausted original black setup cartridge.  I replaced the replacement cartridge with a new cartridge to no avail.  I cleaned the contacts and even replaced all the original setup cartridges, again to no avail.  This is a wireless network printer and the PC uses a windows  7 home premium OS.  This appears to a printer problem not connected to the PC or OS.  This is the 2nd HP printer i have that has the same problem.  Any suggestions except replacing the printer?

@ REBjr.  - I understand that you are getting error message on the printer that is related to the print cartridges.  Are you using genuine HP non refilled ink in the printer? I would  start by doing a  hard reset to the product in an attempt to restore the printer to a known working condition and try to clear the error message prior to replacing any parts.  Here is a document that will provide the steps to the hard reset.  Also, is there residue on the black cartridge?  If so, I would look at this link here. It addresses getting an ink cartridge error message on the printer when trying to install a new black cartridge in the machine. I hope that this helps.

This is UNACCEPTABLE!  I support a user base with over 100 HP Officejet 4620 printers.  I sent one user a ink cartridge pack from a dmaged printer and the printer REFUSES to use the valid cartridges?!?!  This is CRIMINAL.  It's a simple tank of ink and locks to a SPECIFIC printer's hardware?!?!?  This is going to the BBB tonight.
And this thread as absolutely NOT solved.  The orignal question from the OP has not been addressed.

  • Hp officejet 8600 can't print two sided from adobe reader in Mac 10.8.4

    HP officejet 8600
    Mac notebook osx 10.8.4
Can't print 2 sided from pdf in adobe reader.
Print command from file dropdown doesn't open
Print expanded dialog box at bottom of pdf in adobe doesn't show a 2 sided option
    Thanks
    vso

    Hi,
Please follow the steps below in order to automatically print two-sided print jobs:
    1. Verify the duplex-printing accessory has been installed properly. To verify this open the System Preferences and go to Print & Fax. Open the print queue of your printer. Click on Printer Setup and from the tab menu choose Driver. Verify the box next to HP Two-sided Printing Accessory (Duplexer) is checked.
    2. On the File menu, select Print. The Print window appears.
NOTE: The Print window might be minimized. Click Show details to see all available settings.
Note: If you use Adobe Reader, click teh button to launc the system print dialog.
    3. In the expanded Print window you will find next to Copies the checkbox for Two-Sided. Check the box.
NOTE: If the checkbox does not appear within the specific application print dialog, skip this step.
    4. To select the binding type click the lowest selection box listed as the name of the program (e.g. TextEdit)
Will appear as Copies & Pages within Microsoft Office applications.
    5. Select Layout from the drop-down menu.
    6. Set the Two-Sided option as Long-Edge binding (Portrait), or Long-Edge binding (landscape).
You may save the settings for future use by clicking Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset... Any used preset will remain default till another preset will be used.

  • Unable to Wireless Print to OfficeJet 8600 Pro with Mac OSX 10.5.8

I am running MacBook Pro with OSX 10.5.8 and I am unable to print wirelessly to my new OfficeJet 8600 Pro.
I can setup the printer just fine, but when I send a job to print, it just sits in the queu and does nothing after "processing" the pages, etc.
I've tried a few different setup installers, including this one.
It's a slightly older mac (2.3 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) running OSX 10.5.8.
    Any advice?
    Thanks

    Hello dpipitone,

When you installed the software and drivers for your 8600, did it tell you it was successful and print a test page? Also can you let me know the Exact model of 8600 you are using?

  • Setup cartridge yield 970

Hi! I've just bought an Officejet Prox X476dw. I've been an HP printer user for many years now.
Should I expect the page yield for the setup cartridges to be significantly less than for a normal cartridge (about 3,000 pages), or just a little less? My business typically prints less than 500 pages per month, and I want to spread the costs of this investment, so if the yield is just a little less, then I can put off buying more ink for a little while.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi C3PONOR,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! I see you are interested in the approx page yield for the setup cartridges, well the setup cartridges and regular cartridges hold the same amount of ink, however remember when setting up the Officejet Prox X476dw it will require more ink as it will have to prime the tubes and use the ink for servicing tasks. I always recommend the XL cartridges as you get up to 3x the prints.
Take a look at some great resources regarding HP ink and the Uses:
How HP measures inkjet page yields

I hope this helps! If you have more questions regarding the page yields, I suggest contacting our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/hpsupport/index.pl

  • MACBOOK PRO SPORADICALLY PRINTS TO HP NEW OFFICEJET 8600 PLUS

I bought a brand new HP Officejet 8600 Plus and have been having sporadic printing problems.
    MacBookPro OSX 10.6.8
    Router:  Airport Extreme
    Wireless printing
I also have a PC with windows and have no problems printing at all using same wireless router.  When this has happened before, I have shut everything down, disconnected everything, reconnected everything, removed the printer from the macbook, added it back on and then it has worked.
This time - nothing - the document sits in the queue - says connected and . . . nothing!
    Please Help!

    Hi  @Lyn99
Since the issue does not arise when you print from the Windows computer, we know the issue is either related to the Mac or the router, not the printer. I will happily do all I can to help you figure out what the root cause of the issue is and with any luck resolve the issue!
This printer has something called Wireless Direct. Lets enable the wireless direct, which allows the printer to broadcast its own network, then add the Mac to the printers network and see if you can print. If you can print this way, we will know the issue is not the Mac, it is the network, and if you can not print well it is the Mac
On the front panel of the printer, go to the Setup menu by arrowing over to the wrench, then select Network and choose Wireless Direct. When you have turned on the Wireless Direct, go to the Mac and click on the Airport/wifi symbol and choose the printers network (it will say something like HP Print 8600 and part of the hardware address).
Once the Mac is on the printers network, try to print from the Mac. Let me know the outcome and we can go from there.
Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you.

    Hello KPharmer,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your Officejet 8600 Plus is not connecting to your wireless network. I will do my best to assist you! Have you tried reconnecting the wireless on your printer? If not, please follow these steps: (This information is stated here.)
On the printer touch screen, touch the Right Arrow ( ) to display the second navigation screen.
Touch the Setup icon ( ).
Touch Network , touch Wireless Setup Wizard , and then touch Continue . The printer searches for available networks.
Touch the name of your network, and then touch OK .
If prompted, enter the network password, and then touch OK . The printer connects to the network.
Once you have this setup, I would recommend following this entire HP document on Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.
