Officejet 8610 wired network error

I have just bought the above to replace a failed Officejet 8500 because they are the only printers I have ever found that will automatically duplex A5.
After installation, using exactly the same network cable and switch as the old printer, the new printer did not respond via a wired connection*. Wireless/USB is fine. Finally, after playing with all the manual settings the only one that has made it respond was changing Link speed from Auto to any manual setting (e.g. 100-Full).
*Connector lights flashes one during power-up and thereafter remain stubbornly off. Config page says Offline and no manual IP settings 'stick'.
I suspect a compatibility issue with our Dell PowerConnect 5548 switch and the HP Officejet 8610 software.
Does anyone have a clue what might be happening?

Hi @EdPaine
May I ask, why are you using manual IP settings? If you disconnect the Ethernet cable from the router and reconnect it, what happens?

  • Can't reinstall Officejet Pro 8000 A809N driver on wired network

Computer is running Windows XP with service pack 3 and all updates installed.  When I tried to print two days ago, I received an error message that no printer was installed.  I had printed earlier in the week without problems.  I checked the Printer and Faxes folder in Control Panel, and it was empty.  I believe it normally showed the HP printer as well as a Windows Fax print-to-file routine there.
When I clicked on Add a Printer in the Printer folder, I was told that the Print Spooler was not running.  I ran "services.msc" from the Run command, and restarted the Print Spooler.  I went back to the Printer folder, tried to reinstall the printer, and again it said the Print Spooler was not running.  I restarted the Print Spooler again, and tried to look at Server Properties from the Printer folder file tab, and again it said the Print Spooler was not running (it is set to automatic restart).  I've checked several related dll and exe files against their backups, and they don't appear to be corrupted.  I scanned the hard drive for errors, and none were found.
I tried the built-in diagnostics of the HP software, and all I got was error messages that the Print Spooler was stopped.  I came to the HP website, downloaded and installed two additional troubleshooting programs, which did not help.  HP Home Network Diagnostic Utility says "software not installed", although nothing had been deleted, and still ran from the Start menu.  HP Print Diagnostic Utility 4.1 states there is an issue with the print spooler, and to click "Fix".  Clicking Fix opens a window stating to select the printer to troubleshoot, then press "Diagnose".  No printer appears in the list though, so it states to install the software.
Therefore, I downloaded both the full and the limited install programs from the website and tried both several times.  I ran the uninstall program of the existing installation from the Start menu without problems and rebooted.  When I tried to reinstall though, I kept getting errors.  Generally, the "hpnwchk" program (HP network check) opens in a dos screen, displays a long string of  "Printer :  (null)" lines, then crashes.  The program then tells me that the printer is already installed to the TCP/IP port, and needs to be removed first.  I click the option to "Fix" the TCP/IP port option.  The installation program then continues, and brings up a window showing the correct information for my printer (it even wakes it from the standby mode).  I select the printer from the list, and the install continues until receiving another error, stating that "arguments are incorrect", and that the installation has failed.  I think the "arguments" are setting for the TCP/IP port, which differ between what it is being set  from the current drivers and what was previously installed.
I've run the uninstall routine several times, and also manually deleted the printer folder from the registry using REGEDIT (HKCU/Printer).  It seems to me that there is a conflict somewhere that keeps stopping the print spooler (it is set to auto restart).  Also, the uninstall routine is not completely uninstalling, as it always says that the printer is already installed when I run the installation routines, and displays it's correct parameters.  I Googled and read just about everything I can find on the subject, and I'm stumped.  Where else could the TCP/IP settings be stored in the Registry, and what else is being missed on the uninstall?
Some additional information on my setup - the printer has been installed for about 2 years with no issues.  I can still print without problems from another computer on our home wired network.  I opened Vista on this very computer on a separate drive partition, and had no trouble installing and using the printer through Vista, which seems to eliminate any possible hardware issues (I never found it worth the effort to move over to Vista after trying it; only use it now as a back-up to XP on the computer).  In the past week, I installed an update for Adobe Reader, and Microsoft Security Essentials stopped a Java Script Trojan.  I believe Windows also installed it's monthly anti-virus update.  All virus scans have been negative.  Beyond that, there has been no other hardware or software changes.
    This question was solved.

I found a solution to the problem, through early morning inspiration.  I thought as everything disappeared from the Printer folder, and kept being told that the printer was installed, that I would delete and reinstall other drivers that may (or may not) have been in the folder.  I seemed to recall that I had the generic Fax driver installed, and the Microsoft XPS Document Writer installed.  I went to "Add/Remove Windows Components", and deleted Fax Services.  I then went to the Printer file, clicked Add a Printer, and didn't receive the error message that the Print Spooler wasn't running, ect.  I then had no problem reinstalling the HP printer, Fax, and XPS drivers.

  • Intermittent wired network connection on HP OfficeJet Pro 8600

I've searched the forums and I haven't seen a problem/solution quite like I am experiencing, so I am starting a new thread.
I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 that will only keep an intermittent connection to my router.  Lately, it has been more often not than connected.  I usually have to disconnect and connect the Ethernet cable to the back of the printer several times before it will show a connection, and then, only for a little while before it drops the connection again.  When connected, everything works fine (printing, faxing, scanning).
When the printer is disconnected, the network status has a yield sign with an exclamation point inside.  There are no blinking lights on the back where the network cable connects.  When it connects (by me plugging and unplugging), the lights start flickering.  I've tried several cables including known good ones to rule that possibility out.  Cycling the power has no consistent affect.  The router is otherwise working fine.
Here are other details that might help:
Model:  HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 (N911a)
    Firmware: up-to-date
    Software drivers: up-to-date
    Router: CISCO E3200
    Connection: wired network
Static IP address reserved (not connecting with DHCP)
    MAC filtering off
Main Computer: Windows 7 Service Pack 1
    Wired Connection to the router
Can someone suggest a solution?  My best guess is that the network card in the printer is bad, but I am willing to try an easier solution.  Thanks.

Hi, are there any other peripherals using the RJ45 ports on the router?
Are you using a static IP address for the 8600?

  • Error 306 on win7 wired network, but no problem on laptop on same network, wirelessly

iTunes on a wired network is not working correctly. Internet connection in all other areas is working. When running iTunes, update notification works, downloads updated version, but I keep getting the error 306 message when trying to update apps.
The icons are all blank or have blue question marks.
On the same network, just wirelessly, my laptops iTunes works perfectly.
TCP/IP settings are identical on both.

Windows is absolutely passing the buck, and what is more, they are doing it in hopes that we will pass them more bucks- Windows 7 offered a program (for free) that was called windows media center.  Windows 8 does not have this however, they will suggest
that it you pay an additional $99.99 to upgrade to windows pro and THEN another $9.99 for windows media center, all will be fine in the media sharing department....
    UNTRUE-
I have Windows 8 and fresh out of the box, I got an app called XBox Smartglass with my new (and supposedly improved) OS, Windows 8.  Therefore, it is an OS issue, not a manufacturing issue or an Xbox issue or where ever else you may want to stream your
    media to.
However, for whatever reason, I have been able to share media without upgrading or paying anything with not one, but two Xbox's...It has something to do with permissions, sharing, devices, networks...but don't ask me what, I truly, truly wish I could help
everyone...however, I just do not want windows weaseling more money out of already high paying customers.
Sometimes I right click on a pie of media and I receive a 'Play To' option.  Sometimes that options offers me to 'Play To' 'The Dark Box' or 'Xbox 360' or one but not the other or; my personal favorite- the 'Play To' option is gone and the only option
is to 'Open With' the various media outlets on my PC but not stream it anywhere...and there is no rhyme or reason or setting that makes this consistent.
I wish I could help more, but I leave you with this- It is possible, It does have to do with Windows OS, and you do not have to pass anymore bucks their way to make it happen...

printer 8610 says printer error with blue light flashing telling me to turn the printer off then on....i do that and it is fine for a short time and does it again....i have even unplugged it and turned it back on and it will still do it after a short time

    Hey @jewels2,
Welcome to the HP Support Forum. I hope you enjoy your experience here.
I understand you're encountering a recurring error status with your HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer.  I would like to assist you with this.
Are you able to interface with the printer's touch screen at all, ie. - is it responsive to your touch so that you can access your printer's menus?  I have a couple suggestions that might help.
If you're able to use the printer's touchscreen still, try restoring its factory defaults*:
*Note that completing this step will reset your printer's wireless configuration, ePrint address, and other customized printer settings.  If you have created a custom @hpeprint.com address it will be permanently erased.  For more information on custom ePrint addresses, click here.
    From your printer's front panel:
    Touch Setup
    Touch Tools
    Touch Restore Factory Defaults
When you complete this reset you'll need to re-establish your wireless connection (if you're a wireless user) and re-establish your webservices connection if you're an ePrint, Printables, or scan to email user.  To do so, simply touch the  icon, enable webservices and touch OK to allow for automatic printer updates.
Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post.  If these tips fall short I can private message you the steps to complete a semi full reset if need be.  If I have helped you resolve the issue and you liked this post, feel free to give me virtual props by clicking on the 'Thumbs Up' icon below.

  • HP -Other hardware, printer - Null Fax - HP Officejet 8610

I recently update to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 on a desk top machine. Everything went well until Windows is trying to install an update for this printer (HP Officejet 8610). It is getting error 8007002. I checked the Windows site to find a fix and found nothing that works. I did try a couple solutions that I found which did not resolve the error. Has anyone run into this error and if you did were you able to get it resolved? I would appreciate a solution if someone has it. Thanks.
    This question was solved.

    Hi @beary_one
According to the Windows website "If you receive Windows Update error 80070490, it means that a file (CBS Manifest) that's needed to install updates is corrupt."
This seems to apply to different error codes, including 8007002
Please take a look at what I found: Windows Update error 80070490
It appears the reason the file is appearing as corrupt is because it is whats is referred to as a "ghost update". Basically a "ghost update" is an update that was for the device, but the device has more recent drivers which causes the update to keep failing.  The only thing you can do is hide the update, or ignore it.  Windows will keep trying to push it, but your printer doesn't need it.  If it did need the update, it would install right.
Aside from there error, are you experiencing any issues printing, scanning, or using the HP software?

  • How to set up TimeCapsule (4th) to create own private (wired) network behind Airport Express (5th) that is set up to join existing wifi-network of fritz adsl modem/router?

I work in an office building with free Wifi to connect to the Internet. I want to be able to use this internetconnection, but at the same time I want to shield of my own wired network.
    I've made the following configuration:
    - fritz adsl modem / router
    - Airport Extreme (5th gen) set up to join existing wireless network (green light, works)
    - Lan-cable from lan-port AE to wan-port TC (4th gen)
    - Lan-cable from TC to Mac
    - Lan-cable from TC to Printer
When I set my TC (network-settings) in bridge-mode everything works fine, but my Mac and Printer get an IP-address from the fritz modem / router and are visible to others.
I tried to set TC in NAT/DHCP-mode, but then I get the error message that I should set a static IP-adress for TC. When I set TC in DHCP-mode, it looses connection to the AE. I'm not sure what to do now. Does anyone know how to set up my TC and create my own private network and still be able to get on the internet?

    Hajenius wrote:
Is there a better alternative? I'd rather not want to reset my TC every day.
You are using free internet.. so there is a price to pay.. that is convenience and non-ideal network setup.
The better alternative is to pay for your own connection. Then you are completely free of the possibility of others in the bullding seeing your connection. (as long as you secure the wireless).
But I think you are probably over worrying about public wifi.. if it is setup right.. ask the building admins.. it should be setup so each user cannot see another users connection. This is typical for most wifi setup and simply means you can see internet connection but nobody else on the connection. ie other wireless users.
Having a router with NAT makes it then more secure again and allows clients on your own network to interact with each other. But you can setup wireless to the free wifi for every client.. (depending on how many IP you are allowed).. and run a secondary network without internet access. This is easy for desktop etc where you have a wireless and a wired connection but less convenient for mobile devices.. unless you use a cloud connection and each client can link and share via that.
Have I made the explanation worse??
Think of it this way.. if you had 3 laptops.. all 3 could connect to the internet from the building wifi.. but they cannot talk to each other or share resources in local office. You can put resources out in the cloud, that can be shared.. but that adds traffic and most free services are not fast.
Now you can also plug all three into Time Capsule by ethernet.. and share local resources. Files, printers backup etc. This network is not connected to the internet at all. Each laptop has internet via free wifi and local connection.
For devices like iphones that have no ethernet or other method.. you could use local wireless and public wireless.. but in turns.. still the only advantage is less issues with double NAT.. if that causes problems.. then this is an alternative.

  • HP LaserJet Pro m201dw suddenly not printing via ethernet (wired) network using Mac OS 10.10.1

    Hi,
My brand-new HP LaserJet Pro M201dw is suddenly not cooperating when I go to print using my Mac. I had it set up following the directions which closest matched my OS and it worked perfectly for one week; today suddenly it won't cooperate. The printer is seen on the network. I have deleted and re-installed it from my System Preferences several times. I have rebooted my computer. I cannot seem to get it to work. Even the HP Utility is having difficulty. The HP Utility is suddenly slow and often needs to be force-quit as it hangs when I navigate to other applications (web browser, etc.) while waiting for it to respond to clicks. Most often the HP Utility shows the printer in the status ara as "Device Status: Unknown" and "Supplies: Unknown" which it wasn't having issues with yesterday.
Can anyone help me troubleshoot this device? Is there better documentation than the basic setup page here on HP? What about adjusting some setting in the printer web page (which I can access) - is the answer in there?
    Thank you.

  • Cannot log into T61 from remote computer with wired network and Windows Explorer.

    Hi,
    I am using a T61 7662-cto with Windows 7 Professional
When the T61 is connected on the home network with the wired network, I am not able to log into it remotely from another computer. On my second computer, I see the T61 with Windows Explorer but instead of getting the login window, it appears a Network Error with the message:
“Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network.” With a error code 0x80070035, “The network path was not found.” I tried the “Diagnose” button but it doesn’t give solution.
When the T61 is wireless connected, there is no problem. I can access it from my second computer.
I never have problem to connect to the second computer from the T61 with any connection type . I just updated the Intel Wireless LAN (bg, abg, abgn) for Windows 7 – ThinkPad, with the drivers required but it changes nothing.

  • Slow 10.8 time machine backup to wired network

I have a MacPro with a big backup drive and a MacBook Pro that backs up to it over a wired network. Ever since I upgraded to ML, my backups have been extremely slow. [An incremental of 70 MB can take a few hours. A full backup reports weeks, and gets slower and slower. I've aborted after 30 days and 50% complete.]
I plugged in a drive directly and that worked fine.
I've tried lots of things I've read about in multiple places: repairing disks and permissions, resetting time machine, turning off spotlight and antivirus. I'm not sure what else to try.
One thing to note: If I mount the  sparse backup image volume manually and copy a large (1GB) file to it, it seems to work fine. However, when TM is running it appears to get slower and slower.  It becomes extremely slow to access both in the finder and in the terminal [like minutes if I type ls].
Any suggestions offered would be greatly appreciated.

After a safe boot, TM still isn't working normally. It does usually work, it is just glacially slow (backing up over wired gigabit ethernet).
On my just-backed-up laptop, I made a 2GB file from /dev/random. It took about 5 hours for TM to complete.
Note that if I manually mount the backup drive and copy the file, it copies in about a minute.

  • Wired network problem on X220

    Hello!
I'm experiencing a weird issue regarding wired networking in the moment on my ThinkPad X220 4290w1b running Windows 7.
Here's the full story: When Windows Update offered me a new driver for my LAN Adapter I did not hesitate and installed it.
That is when the trouble began. I cannot connect to my LAN anymore, Windows (nearly, will explain that later) always tells me that there is no cable plugged in and the status LEDs (on the port you plug the cable in) remain completely inactive.
I checked the cable with my sisters Laptop: Works.
I tried using a different cable and port on the router: Does not work. I made sure that the Router/Cable has no error with another PC.
My guess is that Windows Update didn't do its job well. So I thought I could do better: Unfortunately, installing the newest driver from the Lenovo Homepage does not solve the problem. I tried multiple ways: manually deleting the LAN Adapter from Windows Device Manager before installation..., I also tried a driver from the Intel Homepage.
There were two times though when the problem seemed to be solved: I deinstalled the LAN Adapter in device manager and installed the Lenovo driver afterwards, so that the device was detected again. After waiting for some minutes (no idea why that has an impact oO) everything works like a charm. After a reboot the problem comes back though.
I updated all other drivers and also the BIOS, but it did not solve the problem, too.
I would be very glad if the problem could be resolved and thank everyone in advance for any help!
    Kind regards, Guenselmann
PS: Sorry for any language mistakes. I tried my best, but I'm still not a native speaker.

First of all, sorry for the wall of text. Somehow the formatting got lost. Edited it.
Thank you for trying to help.
I checked the cable again with another Laptop. It is definitely capable of delivering 1Gbps. It is cat 6, 30 metres long and quite new, if that is of any interest.
I also tried a different cable: Same result.
Your tip was really good though: I forced the driver to 100Mbps Full Duplex, and it works. This is no permanent solution for me though, since I will soon be streaming a lot of data to a NAS.
So I started playing around with the other available options (i.e. activating/deactivating them one by one, which is quite annoying^^).
When I disable "IPv4-Prüfsummen abladen" (using german Windows, translates to "deploy/drop IPv4 checksums"), 1Gbit/s works. It also works if I disable PME or change many other variables (e.g. Priority and VLAN). I can even revert the changes and it still works until I do a cold reboot (I mean plugging the power off and in after turning off Windows).
There must be something wrong oO
If anyone has an idea what the problem might be, feel free to tell me!
I will post more information if I notice anything.
    Kind regards, Guenselmann

  • [SOLVED] NetworkManager "not authorized to control networking" error

I'm installing arch with XFCE on an eeepc-1005ha. My wired ethernet works fine, both with dhcpcd eth0 and the NetworkManager (which connects automatically on boot). I'm following the instructions from this link: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … nager#XFCE
I installed the NetworkManager and the xfce notify package. From the configuration setting part of the linked page, I disabled my internet connections with these commands:
    ip link set down eth0
    ip link set down wlan0
I added NetworkManager to the DAEMONS array, after dbus, per the instructions. I still get a "not authorized to control networking" error when I select a wireless network, so I followed the troubleshooting instructions. This is my .xinitrc file:
    #!/bin/sh
    # ~/.xinitrc
    # Executed by startx (run your window manager from here)
    if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
    for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
    [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
    done
    unset f
    fi
    # exec gnome-session
    # exec startkde
    exec startxfce4 --with-ck-launch
    #exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch startxfce4
    # ...or the Window Manager of your choice
The exec line that's not commented out comes from the XFCE configuration instructions. The troubleshooting instructions for NetworkManager say to add
    exec ck-launch-session wm
to .xinitrc, where wm is whatever window manager I'm using. Should
    exec ck-launch-session startxfce4
    or
    exec dbus-launch ck-launch-session startxfce4
work? Neither of those options, nor the commented exec line in .xinitrc work.
Finally, I followed the NetworkManager troubleshooting instructions and added my user to the wheel group, using this command:
    gpasswd -a myusername wheel
After a reboot, everything else still works (wired ethernet, xfce4, etc.) but the error upon connecting to wireless is still the same.
Any ideas? My user (username: myusername) does have full sudo privileges for this hostname.

Both my flatmate and I are having this problem too, I am using openbox with consolekit and he is using awesome, again with consolekit.
We both use slim, me through inittab and he through the slim daemon.
By the way, it used to work, and has for around a year until now.
    My outputs from ck-list-sessions:

  • ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock and X1 Carbon SLOW wired network speeds

Got my X1 carbon, like it don't love it.  However using it on our wired network I'm getting around 20MB speeds copying files and my carbon becomes very copy when doing large 2GB file type copies.
On my T420s with a "real" docking station I get around 150MB speeds copying the same file.
No errors on our Cisco switches, seem speeds are locking in fine.  Is that simply the best I'm going to to over the USB 3.0 connecting to the SS port?  I can almost live with slow speeds but copy video during copies, no way.
Am I missing something, doing something wrong, or this is what it is?  Sure hope not...

I'm seeing the same issue with a ThinkPad W520.  When I connect my ethernet cable directly to the laptop, my internet speeds are on par with my service provider of 18 Mbps.  When I move that cable to the dock, I will only see 1.5 Mbps.  I have two displays attached to the dock and I'm running Windows 7.  I've updated the dock firmware and have installed the latest system drivers.  Is there anything else to try?

  • Canon PIXMA MP980 networked Error Number : 311 Printer is in use

I have a mixed network at home with PC and Mac. It is wired and wireless. I have installed the Canon MP980 as USB to the iMac to set it up then went thru the wired network setup. I was able to print with USB attached. I am unable to print to it as a wired printer. I get Error Number : 311 Printer is in use or an error has occurred.
I am able to connect from the iMac via safari to its internal software over the wired network. Also, believe it or not I am able to print to it and scan from it, to an HP vista machine (the machine and OS that made me a Mac convert last year) It worked without a hitch.
It doesn't matter how the printer is set up in print settings, I still get this error. I am unable to find any gutenprint support for this model number.
    Any ideas?

I am a bit concerned about the URI. I didn't think the machine supported HP Jetdirect-Socket, even when using the 'CUPS' driver. You could confirm this on this Vista box, by opening the printer queue and selecting Configure Port. If it shows the queue as Port 9100 then that would indicate that the printer does support HP Jetdirect-Socket, which is it's name on OS X. From memory, on Windows you select something like BJ Network Printer.
Anyway, you may want to try installing the non-CUPS driver and then selecting More Printers > Canon IJ Network. The printer should display with it's MAC address, which you should leave at this stage, and when you select it the driver should be automatically found.
I also believe you could use the same method with only the CUPS driver installed, however I would need to confirm this on my MP970 at work tomorrow.
