Officejet 920XL black cartridge, under warranty exploded

920XL Officejet twinpack ink cartridge, purchased 1/28/2012,under warranty until August 2013.... tried to install 1/28/2012 using HP directions, exploded, leaving 7" x 8" stain on carpet, staining fleece top, was to the side of the printer, would have also ruined that if it had been above the printer.

Hi wayn
Sorry to hear about this. I would suggest that you contact HP phone support straight away, as I believe they'll replace the cartridge for you and compensate for the damage caused. Please let me know how you get on, and if there's anything I can do to help follow up.
One quick query I have is if you removed the orange vent label (marked as 'Pull') before the shipcap?
Thanks, Ciara

  • OUTPUT OF BLACK CARTRIDGE OF hp officejet 6500A

Myprinter is HP OFFICEJET 6500A.  All other three cartridges color output cyan, magenta, yellow are coming fine, but I am not able to get outputprinting of black cartridge even after sincere trials after making default factory made setting and loading of required drivers.  Inserted  new cartridges of black, even then it is not giving black ink output, moreover, faxes incoming are received as white paper only, no text or matter with black printing, only white paper is coming, but transmission is OK. Even in copy mode also, no output is coming.  What is the reason, how to solve the problem.  Could u please suggest to activate our printer for obtaining black ink output.

  • Black goo inside printer under black cartridge. using HP 74XL cartridge and 75XL color cartridge.

Black goo under black cartridge.  printer says Print cartridge missing or not detected  Have fiddled with cartridges to make it print sometimes, now mostly won't print.

It is normal for there to be ink in the service station area where the printheads are parked when not printing.  It is not necessary or desirable to clean this area.
Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system?
Cleaning the cartridge contacts as shown in the document here may help resolve the issue.

  • Officejet Pro L7500 - empty black cartridge - full and brand new

I have gone through all the troubleshooting I can think of.  I have removed printer heads, printer cartridges, installed new cartridge.  Nothing helps.  It will print one page when you remove the black cartridge and reinstall it.  Then when it goes to print the second page we get the error msg to install a new cartridge.  We would really like to copy things.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @Frustratedarggg ,
I understand you have tried installing two new black ink cartridges, and they both seem to be leaking ink inside of your Officejet 8600. • Printing with Black Cartridge Only option grayed out: Officejet 6000

Trying to print a black and white photo in gray scale using only the black ink cartridge, unfortunately that option is grayed out. Is there some setting that has to be chosen first before black cartridge only option becomes available?
I feel like I've tried just about every combination, but maybe I'm missing some minuscule, unintuitive step.
    Thanks

Nope, its not a bug.  When you choose borderless the print region actually becomes bigger than the page to make sure there are no white gaps.  The ink that does not make it to the page is caught in a trough filled with foam just below the print zone.
The color ink is a dye ink (like food coloring).  The black ink is a pigment ink - like carbon dust suspended in water.  When it is over-sprayed in the trough it piles up until the pile of pigment starts dragging and smearing on the back of every subsequent page!  Not good, so we do not allow the black cartridge to print when set to borderless.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • HP 5440 Pryamid of black ink under the HP92 black cartridge

I am getting a black cartridge error and the resume button/light flashing.
I took the black cartridge out and tried a test print from the computer and the paper feeds in and out fine but no ink is on the paper.  I will be getting a new HP 93 color cartridge shortly but how do I clean up the black ink mess before I use a new black cartridge?

The ink in the service station area is normal.  It is not necessary or desireable to clean this area - attempting to clean it may cause problems.
It sounds like there are a few issues.  For the black cartridge rejection issue cleaning the carriage and printer contacts as shown in solution two, figure 33 of the document here may help resolve the issue.
Is color not printing because it is empty?  If not the troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve the issue.

  • My  ipod classic just stopped working.  Will not turn on, will not do anything.  Black screen.  It is still under warranty.  What do I do to get it fixed or replaced?

My ipod classis just stopped working.  It is still under warranty and I need to know where the warranty information is so I can get it fixed or replaced?

If you have tried all of the suggestions mentioned under the appropriate section in this Apple support document, you may need to have your iPod serviced or replaced either by Apple or a third party service.
    iPod won't turn on
If the iPod is still under Apple's 1 year warranty against manufacturing defects, Apple may swap it out for you at no cost if they don't conclude the issue to be the result of abuse or accidental damage.  If you have an Apple Store nearby schedule an appointment with them and show them what you are experiencing.

  • My 4355 officjet will not recognise a new black cartridge when inserted

Hey ,  Thanks for getting back to me regarding this issue.  Because the troubleshooting steps provided failed to resolve this black cartridge detection issue, a new black cartridge will need to be inserted in your product to verify if the cartridge you're currently using is defective or not. If a new black cartridge resolves your issue, then the current cartridge is defective. If the current cartridge is a Genuine HP Cartridge it will have a warranty date on it and will be entitled as per the cartridge warranty to a replacement through HP.  If a new cartridge fails to resolve this issue then the printer will need to be replaced.   Please respond to this post with the result of trying a new cartridge in the printer. Best of luck!

Hey , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!I understand that your HP Officejet 4355 All-in-One Printer is prompting for the right cartridge to be installed, after you inserted new cartridges in your machine. I would like to assist you today with resolving this cartridge detection error. Thank you for including the troubleshooting steps that you have attempted prior to reaching out for support. At this time there is either a dirty cartridge contact in your machine that may be blocking your printer from detecting the new cartridge as installed. There is also a chance that the new cartridge is defective. Therefore, I am going to have you perform some standard cartridge troubleshooting steps below to isolate this issue and resolve this issue.   Step 1: Remove Cartridges:  NOTE:  If the product is off when you open the print cartridge door to access the print cartridges, the product will not release the cartridges for changing. You might damage the product if the print cartridges are not docked safely on the right side when you try to remove them. 1. Make sure the product is turned on. The On button is lit when the product is on. 2. Open the print cartridge door. The print carriage moves to the far right side of the product.  3. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on the right  print cartridge to release it. Please remove just the right (Black) cartridge. (1) Print cartridge slot for the tri-color print cartridge(2) Print cartridge slot for the black and photo print cartridges 4. Pull the print cartridge towards you out of its slot. - Source  Step 2: Check for Packaging on Cartridge: With the cartridge removed from the printer, we are now going to check the right (Black) cartridge for any remaining packaging that may be causing cartridge detection issues.  Make sure that the plastic tape is removed from the cartridge by using the pink pull tab.   (1) Copper-colored contacts(2) Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing)(3) Ink nozzles under tape NOTE:  Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.  Once the packaging has been confirmed as removed from the new cartridge, please proceed to the next step.  - Source   Step 3: Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Gather the Following Materials:  Dry foam rubber swabs, lint-free cloth, or any soft material that will not come apart or leave fibers. Tip: Coffee filters are lint-free and work well for cleaning print cartridges.  Distilled, filtered, or bottled water (tap water might contain contaminants that can damage the print cartridges). Caution: Do not use platen cleaners or alcohol to clean the print cartridge contacts. These can damage the print cartridge or the HP All-in-One.  Perform the Clean:  1. Inspect the print cartridge contacts for ink and debris buildup. 2. Dip a clean foam rubber swab or lint-free cloth into distilled water, and squeeze any excess water from it. 3. Hold the print cartridge by its sides. 4. Clean only the copper-colored contacts. Allow the print cartridges to dry for approximately ten minutes.   5. Leave the cartridge outside of the printer. 6. With the printer ON, disconnect the power cable from the rear of the printer 7. Examine the right cartridge slot inside of the printer. If you see debris or ink buildup please clean the cartridge slot. Allow the right slot to dry.  8. Plug the power cable back in. Your printer should start back up on its own.  Once the cartridge and slot have been cleaned, please proceed to the next step.  - Source   Step 4: Install Cartridge:  1. Slide the print cartridge forward into the empty slot. Then gently push on the upper part of the print cartridge forward until it clicks into the socket.  2. Close the print cartridge door.   Once your cartridge has been installed, please test printing to confirm that the cartridge detection issue has been resolved. Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck!

  • Can I print with a black cartridge only? HP Deskjet 3520

    Hi everyone,
I just bought a new black ink cartridge for my printer, assuming that I did not need to replace all the colors since I only want to print in black (shipping labels and such.)
Well, it only prints in a grayish shade now!  The ink levels on the colored cartridges are low, and the black ink is high and brand new.  So WHY can I not just print in plain old black?
    What am I doing wrong?
Thank you so much for your help!

The post here has links to a troubleshooting document for the Deskjet 3520.  If the steps there do not resolve the issue please call HP Support, even if the printer is not longer under warranty.  In the US or Canada call 1-800-HPINVENt, elsewhere see the document here for contact information.  If the above does not give satisfactory results then please post back here and mention what country you are located in..
