Officejet J4680 and windows 8.1

I went to the drivers section for my OfficeJet J4680 printer and downloaded the Full download for the printer so that I could install in on my new windows 8.1 64bit desktop pc.  I had not problem installing or connecting the printer to the desktop (wireless connection only) and I can print.  However, when I clicked to use the HP Solution Center I get a message that the HP Solution Center cannot run because my device installation is not complete.  I did the same installation process that I had done on my old desktop running XP Pro and on the laptop running Vista Home Premium.  But I get that message when trying to use the Solution Center on my new desktop running Windows 8.1 (64bit) Home version.
I did find some information at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-hardware/how-to-install-hp-j4680-printer-...   regarding how to install the J4680 on Windows 8.  However, I can't get any of the links from that page to even load.  I am actually having all sorts of issues getting any of the HP pages to load - but I can access anything else on the internet without any issues.
I am guessing that there is an issue with HP links today, so I will try those steps at a later date (if in fact that is what I need to do to resolve the issue for the Solution Center not working on my Windows 8.1 64bit Home desktop).
Am I missing something?  I do have the drivers for the printer (for the Vista laptop) available but I am guessing that those drivers will not work.
How do I get the Solution Center to work in Windows 8.1?  The rest of that message states.... Please plug in the USB cable or re-run the setup program from the installation CD for a network installation.  If this does not complete the installation, or you do not have the CD, access the HP help files by clicking the start menu.  There is no Help file in the start menu of the HP printer and I did check the HP update and it states that there are no new updates available for my system and that the drivers and software are up to date.
I am not sure what I should be entering in the MS Help section regarding this problem and it does state the HP help files
Any help would be so very much appreciated.   Thank You

Hello @lmhjcr , Welcome back to the Forums! I hope you enjoy your experience
I noticed your posts about the error message "the device installation is incomplete" you are seeing when you attempt to install your printer on Windows 8.1. I am going to share some of my suggestions with you.
1. Check that Internet Explorer pop-up blockers are turned off before downloading the installer
Internet Explorer Pop-up Blocker: How do I turn off Pop-up Blocker?
Try to install
2. If you're running McAfee Live Safe or any other firewall, please temporarily disable the "real time scanning".
How to disable realtime scans
Try the install
3. Go to the start screen (you may also press the windows key + R to open the run box) and type %WINDIR% this should show the windows folder.
Click on the folder and scroll until you see files. Look for a filed named "HPWINS*.DAT" (the * is for a number that varies) remove this file and try the installation.
Try the install
I hope my post was helpful, thank you for posting in the community!

  • Officejet 6110 and Windows Vista lost communication

I have used this printer with this computer for years.  It is an HP Officejet 6110 and Windows Vista.  No problems and prints all the time using the built in driver that came with Vista.  We powered the computer and the printer down.  Moved them to the other wall, 6 feet.  Plugged them back in, excatly, all same ports and cords, and when you print the spooler shows "Print - Error".  Only message and no more details.  Thought maybe cable for printer bad but tried one form a different computer and same thing.  Uninstalled printer and when rebooted Windows did not see it to Auto install.  Told Windows to search for new hardware and it found nothing.  Turned printer off and tried reboot and still nothing.  Tried manually adding and choosing old port, and nothing.  Looked all over web and did not see solution. Went in to safe mode and printer not listed.  Where can we go to completely remove printer so Windows will find new hardware and reinstall properly?

    Hi RFG1022,
Thanks for getting back to me with the printer information.  Much appreciated.
What I would like to do is go step by step through a series of troubleshooting steps with you.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
The next step would be to remove the usb cable from the printer and from the computer and leave it disconnected until further notice.
Please click on the following link for Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once the uninstall is complete, reboot the computer so the changes take affect.
When the computer is back up and running, disable any firewalls or anti virus protection you may have running so that we don't have any conflicts with the reinstall.
The next link is for the HP Officejet 4630 e-All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers.
Save the file the desktop so that it creates its own icon. Double click the new icon and follow the instructions. The install will prompt you as to when to connect the usb cable or wireless option so please do not connect the usb until asked to do so.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.
    Cheers,

  • Incomplete print jobs with HP Officejet v40 and Windows 7

I've seen this problem posted but no solution yet.  I have upgraded my laptop to a Windows 7 and my trusty old HP Officejet v40 will not print a complete page.  It worked great with XP.  The drivers are supposedly updated.  Please help! Thanks.

Same problem here, using an HP OfficeJet v40 under Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit.
The device works superb under Win XP, there's no problem at all with the hardware. Also, it is listed on the Windows7 compatibility list (also for 64Bit) and reported as fully supported by the new OS.
As suggested on the HP download page, I installed the driver automatically via Windows Update. The device gets recognised as an OfficeJet v30 model, the printer part needs a second update attempt but is then successfully installed as the other device parts.
Problem: Any printouts come out incomplete and the spooler reports an error. Changing the driver manually to the correct v40 model (can also be done via Windows Update) doesn't change this behaviour.
During installation there are quite a few error recorded by windows, and with some of the spooler print errors, there was an event ID 372 triggered. The error code returned by the print processor (Param 10) is 2147500037, Param11 simply says "Unknown Error" - maybe this helps identifying what the issue is.
If I had to guess I'd say it's a driver problem. I also ran the HP Print Diagnostics Utility, which didn't report any problems with the printer. There is a number of message boards around the Net where quite a lot of people ask for a solution to this particular problem. None of the inofficial suggestions I found there (like restarting the spooler service, or bypassing the spooler entirely) helped.
I'm aware that this particular model is probably no longer fully supported by HP. However, it's still a great device for me which I'd like to use on one of my workstations. I also think at least the basic functions should work when the device is supposed to be compatible with Windows 7.
It would be great if someone from HP Support could advise what to do here, thanks.

  • Printing Issues with HP OfficeJet 100 and Windows 8.1

We use HP OfficeJet 100 mobile printers and have a printing issue. When we print the printer acts as if it is going to print and then prints one blank page.Printer will not print even though it is showing as default printer.Printer will just stop printing in the middle of a document, even in the middle of printing out a page. We are printing via the USB cableWe are using Windows 8.1We are connecting to laptopsWe have been using the HP mobile range of printers since 2004 and have only experienced these issues since we moved the laptops onto Windows 8/8.1 We have:Uninstalled and reinstalled the printer drivers – this fixed this issue for a short while and then it reappeared againCalled HP support and they directed us to the driver support page which had the latest print drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers with them on the phone. This initially fixed the problem and then it returned a few days laterAfter trawling the support forums found directions to change the print processor to “WinPrint” – No effect as the processor was already on this settingDownloaded the HP diagnostic tool – HP Print and Scan Doctor – didn’t fix anything Any further help would be much appreciated.

  • Officejet 6310 and windows 8.1 rt

how do i  get my hp officejet 6310 to connect wirelessly to my surface 2 running windows 8.1rt. right now it cant find the printer. before the last update it did.

Hi frank8122, welcome to the HP Forums. Windows RT uses print drivers that are already in the operating system. If it is going to work, you can go to "Step two: Install the software" and follow the Windows RT instructions for "Wired (Ethernet) or wireless connection": Install the Printer Software in Windows RT or Windows 8 on a Tablet.
If that does not work, then the printer is not supported to work in Windows RT 8.1.

  • Double sided printing on HP officejet 7410 and windows 8.1

I recently had to upgrade to a new computer with Windows 8.1 and after downloading the driver for my old HP Officejet 7410 All in One WITH the double sided printing attachment, I cannot get it to print on both sides automatically, as in the printer setup there is only "print one page" or manually print double sided.  I continue to get the manual print instructions to turn the pages over.  I have downloaded the driver twice and cannot find an option for the double sided driver.  The printer still prints double sided automatically with the other old computer i have.
Help ~ wanting to print double sided!

I have the same problem.  I have the HP Officejet 7410 that supports automatic double sided printing.  I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1.  I installed the most recent software and drivers from the HP support site.  But automatic double sided printing is no longer an option.  What's up with that HP?  How about a fix?

  • HP Officejet 6600 and Windows 8.1

    Hi
Since going to Windows 8, my Officejet appears in the "more" section of the printers, and not on the first list, even though there is room which is very annoying.  When I upgraded to Windows 8.1 I had the @ & " keys swapped, which I put down to the 8.1 upgrade.  However, since then, I have found that if I install the printer from the devices screen, the above problems disappear but if I do it from the HP driver they re-appear.  I want to use the HP driver as it gives me all the functionality - the other one appears to only give me basic print.  I am no technical guru so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello gupberger,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand the printer driver options are not what you would like. I will do my best to assist you! I would uninstall whatever driver is installed and then install the correct printer driver with the Printer Install Wizard. All you have to do is download the tool and follow the instructions provided: HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows
Please let me know your results. Also, please provide a screen shot of what you are referring to if the issue isn't resolved. Thanks for choosing the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • HP 8500 Officejet Pro and Windows 8

I just purchaes a New HP Laptop with windows 8 and I cant get my printer to work.  If I reinstall the driver It may work for 2 or 4 print jobs and that is it  I really like this printer and do not want to purcahse another one  HELP

    Hi @heavyparts,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that your HP Officejet 8500 will only work for 2-4 print jobs, and I am happy to help!
For further assistance, I will need to know:
The Product/Model Number of your printer. Follow instructions in this link. Finding Your HP Product Model Number.
If the printer is connected, Wireless, Ethernet, or USB.
If the printer is able to make copies.
If the power cable is plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
In the meantime, please try the HP Print and Scan Doctor, and let me know what happens!
Hope to hear from you soon, and thank you for posting!

My Windows 7 computer sees and prints fine.
Uninstalled, installed through USB.  Same problems on the XP.
Uninstalled software, deleted printers, disconnected printer.  Reboot.  Install drivers from HP's website (2014-09-10 , Version34.2, 179.35M).  Reboot, connected printer through USB, finds printer, everything looks fine.  Still same problem.
Installed "HP Print and Scan Doctor" with no solution.
I have also tried the basic drivers "OJ5740_Basicx86_117.exe" resulting in the same problem.
I have also tried to share the printer from my Windows 7, from the XP computer connect to the shared Win7 printer, but still doesn't work.
Also tried to add the printer using the IP.  It installs, but when trying to print, same problem.
    Please help !

    Welcome to the forums!
    @HP-OJ-5740-ARGH
I understand your HP Officejet 5740 is not functioning properly, and I'd like to try to help!
As I read your post, you mentioned that test pages will not print, which is first concerning as this points out a hardware problem. The hardware issue will need to be dealt with first and resolved before any software troubleshooting can be done.
I would suggest a power reset to start with and then try making a couple of copies after the printer starts back up.
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
Please let me know if the copies work and we will go from there

  • HP Officejet 6100 and Windows 8.1

I am sorry if this question has already been asked and answered but I have spent days trying to solve my particular problem.
I have a private network at home, with an HP XP laptop, Windows 8 laptop, iPod and two Android mobile phones with of course an HP Office 6100 printer. I can print from each device without any problems.
Then I upgraded my main Laptop to Windows 8.1. I reinstalled the HP printer driver but I now can’t print from the Windows 8.1 laptop. When I try, I get the error message Unable to communicate with printer.
I have tried to reinstall the driver OJ6100_1321.exe. When I do this, the printer can’t be found. If I search with the printer name, it also can’t be found; only if I enter the IP Address, can the installation proceed.  Unfortunately after such an installation, the same error appears.
The Print and Scan Doctor HPPSdr.exe does find the printer with the correct IP Address and is installed. I press Fix Printing.  All the items in the left column have a green tick.  I press Test Print. No test print is printed.
I then tried the Printer Install wizard for Windows hppiw.exe. This utility finds the printer. I press next. The next screen says “The current HP software is already installed but the basic functionality driver appears to be missing or incorrectly configured. I have tried everything on the following page.
The utility to manage the printer, like see how much ink is in the cartridges says that two way communication with the printer is not possible.
I have tried all this with the firewall turned off but without success.
The only different between this laptop and the rest of the devices is Windows 8.1
Some help would be very very much appreciated.
    Lawrence.
