How do I connect my laptop to the printer by wireless?
This question was solved.
View Solution.

Well, there are several ways to do it but here it is in a nutshell:
1. Connect your printer to your wireless network (using the Wireless Setup Wizard on the front of the printer).
2. Tell your computer that the printer is on the wireless network.  This can be done by updating the HP software that is on your computer, or if it is not on there yet, gettting the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.
These pages should help:

  • HP Officejet J4680 Installation Problem on Windows 7

I went to the HP website and downloaded the Full Software for my HP Officejet J4680 to install my printer wirlessly so I can scan (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-77044-3&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&...  but it will not install my printer. It installs the software and detects my printer but when it says that it is finishing installing my printer, a message pops-up saying it failed. I clicked Retry and it kept doing it, a red X shows up on the diagram.
I did a troubleshoot and it says my printer is off but it isn't. The blue light is on for wireless and everything. When I use Windows 7 and go into Control Panel and choose the Add A Printer option then it installs the drivers for it and can print but when I open HP Solution Center it says that it cannot detect any HP printers. Do I change the path of the printer?

Thanks for responding. What I did today was hard wire the printer to computer. then was able to get my original printer icon back and it was set as the default printer. I deleted the other icons, they were ghosted  and I didn't what to use them. the one was a online printer going back to HP. Now I have to got my son to fix the remaining problem I have, with my messing around I somehow change the Network Name on the printer. He is a computer eng working on high tech cameras and also is the administrator of my machine. He has me locked out of administrative rights and for good reason, I wrecked a couple computers and when he built this one for me that was the rule. There is a little info that I don't have to finalize the last step in changing the Network Name back. I have run the printer from the printer control panel and it did find the correct Network and Network Name but is seemed like that is far as I could go. So I'm not that far from completing this project.

  • Officejet J4680 and windows 8.1

I went to the drivers section for my OfficeJet J4680 printer and downloaded the Full download for the printer so that I could install in on my new windows 8.1 64bit desktop pc.  I had not problem installing or connecting the printer to the desktop (wireless connection only) and I can print.  However, when I clicked to use the HP Solution Center I get a message that the HP Solution Center cannot run because my device installation is not complete.  I did the same installation process that I had done on my old desktop running XP Pro and on the laptop running Vista Home Premium.  But I get that message when trying to use the Solution Center on my new desktop running Windows 8.1 (64bit) Home version.
I did find some information at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-hardware/how-to-install-hp-j4680-printer-...   regarding how to install the J4680 on Windows 8.  However, I can't get any of the links from that page to even load.  I am actually having all sorts of issues getting any of the HP pages to load - but I can access anything else on the internet without any issues.
I am guessing that there is an issue with HP links today, so I will try those steps at a later date (if in fact that is what I need to do to resolve the issue for the Solution Center not working on my Windows 8.1 64bit Home desktop).
Am I missing something?  I do have the drivers for the printer (for the Vista laptop) available but I am guessing that those drivers will not work.
How do I get the Solution Center to work in Windows 8.1?  The rest of that message states.... Please plug in the USB cable or re-run the setup program from the installation CD for a network installation.  If this does not complete the installation, or you do not have the CD, access the HP help files by clicking the start menu.  There is no Help file in the start menu of the HP printer and I did check the HP update and it states that there are no new updates available for my system and that the drivers and software are up to date.
I am not sure what I should be entering in the MS Help section regarding this problem and it does state the HP help files
Any help would be so very much appreciated.   Thank You

Hello @lmhjcr , Welcome back to the Forums! I hope you enjoy your experience
I noticed your posts about the error message "the device installation is incomplete" you are seeing when you attempt to install your printer on Windows 8.1. I am going to share some of my suggestions with you.
    1. Check that Internet Explorer pop-up blockers are turned off before downloading the installer
Internet Explorer Pop-up Blocker: How do I turn off Pop-up Blocker?
    Try to install
    2. If you're running McAfee Live Safe or any other firewall, please temporarily disable the "real time scanning".
    How to disable realtime scans
    Try the install
    3. Go to the start screen (you may also press the windows key + R to open the run box) and type %WINDIR% this should show the windows folder.
Click on the folder and scroll until you see files. Look for a filed named "HPWINS*.DAT" (the * is for a number that varies) remove this file and try the installation.
    Try the install

  • HT3669 My HP Officejet J4680 is now useless in OS X 10.8, has anyone had success in getting the HP printer to work in Mountain Lion

I recently installed Mountain Lion, now my printer/fax/scanner is useless. If anyone has been able to fully use an HP Officejet J4680 please let me know how to get it to work, I am strongly considering on restoring my iMac to Snow Leopard where I can take advantage of my peripherals.

For users who's printer/scanner does not have a compatible driver from their manufacturer:
How do I scan or print with the driver from Apple Software Update?
Depending on your printer and the type of driver update, you might need to scan in a different way than you did before you installed Mountain Lion.
Scan from the Print & Scan window:
Place the item that you want to scan on the scanner glass, or load it into the automatic document feeder (ADF) if your printer has one.
Click the Apple menu (# ), and then click System Preferences .
    Click Print & Scan (# ).
Click your printer in the left pane.
Click the Scan tab, and then click Open Scanner .
Click Show Details . The details of the scan display, including options to change scan settings.Figure 5: Show Details scanning screen# Image: Show Details scanning screen
Change any settings as necessary, and then click Scan .
    NOTE:
Make sure to select either the Flatbed mode or the Document Feedermode, depending on your printer and how you plan to scan.
    Hope this helps

  • Officejet J4680 won't stop printing

    Hi,
Before I contact HP support, thougth I would see if anyone here can help.
I have just bought a J4680 all in one.  Whenever I send anything to print (from any application), it keeps printing multiple copies until I delete the print job from my PC.  Can any one shed any light on this or suggest a solution?
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit (all updates installed), and the all in one is connected via wi-fi.  Have tried switching off firewall (Zonealarm) but same thing happens.  Have un-installed and re-installed the printer and software but still the same.
    Thanks in advance
    Paul
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Just an update after contacting HP tech support, seems to have sorted out the issue.
In case anyone else has a similar problem here is what they suggested. (Four steps, if the first doesn't work, move on to the next)
Step 1: Set number of copies
Pretty self explanatory, make number of copies is set to one. Had obviously already checked this so moved on to next step.
Step 2: Restart the Print Spooler device
    1. Open Administrative Tools. - Click system maintenance in control panel, then click administrative tools..
    2. Double-click Services.
    3. On the User Account Control window, click Continue.
    4. Click Print Spooler.
    5. Click Stop to stop the Print Spooler.
    6. Click Start to restart the Print Spooler.
    7. Click OK.
    8. Restart the computerDidn't work for me, but others may have more luck.
Step 3: Print directly to the printer
    1. In control panel click Hardware and sounds.
    2. Right-click the printers icon.
    3. Locate and click on HP Officejet J4680 All-in-One Printer icon
    3. Click Properties.
    4. Click the Advance tab.
    5. Click Print directly to the printer.
    6. Click OKThis did stop the first problem of the printer continuing to print, but left the document queued so when I sent anything else to print it got stuck in the queue and was unable to delete the first job in the queue.
Step 4: Install Alternate DriversThis step did the job, seems strange that I have to use drivers for another printer, surely HP should make sure its drivers work before releasing a product, or if they know these drivers work, why not ship these with the officejet and rename them?
Anyway, just add a new printer from the control panel, choosing the local option and LPT1 as the port, and select the HP 990c from the list as the printer to install. Once installed, right click on the printer within the printers folder and select properties (see previous step). Click the Ports tab, from here change the port to the one set up for the J4680

I changed my router to a Netgear WNR2000 v3, and now I can't get my HP Officejet J4680 to show up in Solution Center.  I can print to it, but I now have no way of scanning to files.  I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling both software and the printer, but I still can't get it to show up.  I've also reset the printer to factory defaults and changed the IP address as suggested.
I also discovered that Document Manager won't open.

  • Clumps of ink in my HP Officejet j4680 printer

I kept getting an ink error message for my HP Officejet j4680 printer. When I took out both the black & tri-color ink cartridges I noticed clumps of ink on the inside of the printer right below where the ink cartridges sit. Why did this happen & how do i clean it out completely? Thanks.

The area you are referring to is the service station.  This is where the printheads are serviced to keep the nozzles from clogging.  It is normal for ink to be in this area and cleaning this area is not necessary or desireable.  (Attempts to clean this area are likely to damage the printer....)

  • HP OfficeJet J4680 off-wifi USB printing.. NOT working,,

I set up HP OfficeJet J4680 through wifi.. it works fine.
    Copy works too.
    The questions:
    1. When I turn off wifi conection, and link the printer to my PC via USB cable, why CANNOT print?   Must I use wifi to pirnt?  Can I just use USB to print like other regular printers?
    2. How do I scan??  Should USB link to PC? Seems PC doesnot recognize the printer.
If these questions cannot be solved, I will go for a better Canon wireless printer..

    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Follow the instructions.  GIve the printer a different name like J4680 USB when given the chance.
    6. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    7. Click Finish.
Now you will have a USB instance of the printer and a wi-fi instance of the printer.
Scanning can be done using HP Solution Center - look for it in Start > All Programs

  • Officejet j4680 jams with photo paper

I have an Officejet J4680 all in one printer that will not feed HP photo paper.  The printer will print photos on 20# stationary but jams with the photo paper.  I have tried different mfg. paper without any luck.

Same issue. Using HP Advanced Photo Paper 5x7 supposedly optimized for HP products. One sheet finally fed correctly, but then printer went back to its tricks. The paper gets pulled up around the first set of rollers, but then gets blocked from feeding under the print heads...After "printing" cycle completes, the still-blank sheet is fed to the output tray. Very nice. And, of course, a full sheet 8.5x11 photo paper prints and feeds correctly.

  • HP Officejet J4680 All-in-One Windoes 8 64-bit Driver Error

    Hi,
I'm trying to install a driver for my J4680 officejet printer. I've downloaded the windows 8 64-bit driver for my new computer (I can't find the original CD anyway). I have verified that my OS is indeed windows 8 64-bit.
When running the installation. the install program successfully self-extracts, I choose "Install" in the newly-opened window, but then I get the following error during the system check stage:
The system cannot find the file specified.
    I would appreciate your help.

Hi There, and thanks for the reply.
I have run sfc/scannow three times, each time rebooting, and each time it apparently found problems but couldn't repair them all, I then ran the next phase DISM, online componenent store corruption utility, this found problems and fixed them, rebooted and ran scannow again, no problems found.
Rebooted, clicked the printer zipped file, it unpacked and came to the 'welcome, install-quit' window, clicked install, straight away the same file error message appeared, so no change apart from some windows files were missing/corrupt, but not the right ones?.
Thanks for the assistance, any thing else we can try please?.
    Richard.
