Officejet Pro 8500 Feeding problems & Stuck in device check mode.

Ever since my brother decided to unplug my Officetjet Pro 8500 A909a and move it to the other side of the room so he could play on his laptop at my computer desk, my printer has been feeding paper wrong and then displaying a message that says it has the wrong size of paper.  I have NEVER put any different size of paper other than the standard 8X11 letter paper.
When I hit the print button, the printer feeds the paper through crooked and ends up crinkling it partly.  It also marrs one of the edges of the paper.  The error message displays just before the printer spits the paper back out.
I've tried doing different things.  I went to the support section and tried doing the steps listed for a feeding problem.  But none of them worked.  I've tried checking out the topic about paper errors from Microsoft Word.  But even if I try to make a copy via the scanner or the document feeder atop the printer, it still gives me the same error.
Also, when I start my printer up, it goes into the mode where it checks the device and says it may take several minutes.  As I am sitting here writing this, its been in that mode for nearly half an hour now.  It does this every time it goes into that mode now and I find myself interrupting it to get it to stop.  I haven't been to look this problem up yet.  But if anyone has any advice for this problem as well, that would be awesome sauce.
Any good help given will be met with a plate of virtual cookies.  Thanks!

I recently was expirencing this same problem, I was able to correct it by  making sure the copy tray on the bak was properly locked in place. After reseating this all prints came out as perfect as before witout any jams. Hope this helps you out.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909G – The HP Imaging Device was not found

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless A909G.  My operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit that was upgraded from the original Windows Vista 64bit that came installed on my HP Pavilion Elite m9400t CTO Desktop PC.
After performing the Windows 7 upgrade I installed OJP8500vA909_Full_13 to support the 8500, and everything worked fine.
I recently noticed that the scanner function had stopped working from Solution Center, and uninstalled V13.  I downloaded and installed OJP8500vA909_Full_14.  The install completes without error, but then I get scanner error “The HP imaging device was not found”  with extended error code 8, [(1,0, -2147221164)].
I have performed all the suggested Solution Center steps to resolve the error without success. Including:
    1) Updated the firmware to OfficejetPro8500A909g_R1006B_ENG
    2) Ran OJP8500vA909_Corporate_Scrubber_14
    3) Uninstalled all programs, deleted %temp% files, and changed the startup using MSCONFIG.
    4) Deleted all other imaging programs including camera software, and reinstalled.
    5) Performed HP Update and installed network fix.
I have performed these steps many times and keep getting the same error.   The scanner works using the front panel function “Scan to network folder.

  • Problem Connecting HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 a909g to Wireless Router LinkSys EA6300

Hi- Please help. I just got a new computer and am trying to set up my printer wirelessly to connect to my computer. With my old computer, I had it connected via a wired usb connection because I could not get the wireless setup to work. I would like to get the wireless figured out now that I have multiple devices.
I tried to connect my printer (HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 A909g) to my wireless Router (Linksys EA6300), followed the prompts 'Setup -> Network -> Wireless Setup Wizard' on the front pane of the printer. It was unable to find my wireless router. I tried putting in my router name/SSID and WPA password and it still cannot locate the router. I am assuming this is a router setting issue, but I am not sure what to change to get my printer to be able to find the router for the wireless connection. I would really appreciate if someone could help me.

    Hi,
To better understand the issue, can the printer see other networks in your area? can your PC see multiple networks or only your router's SSID (in order to deny any issue with the wireless radio of the printer).
As I can see the EA6300 is a dual band router.
The first thing to check is that your router being set to broadcast a wireless signal using the 2.4GHz band, the pritner doe not support the 5.0GHz band and will not see a router configured to broadcast in such a band.
As well I would ensure that you do not have any other device which broadcast the same SSID as your router, as your router more likewly configured to broadcast both 2.4 ang 5.0 GHz bands (As a Dual Band router) I would also ensure that a different SSID being set for each band (e.g. home_24 / home 5)
YOu may contact the router service provider for further assistant with your router configuration, you may also try following its user guide below:

  • HP OFFICEJET PRO 8500 PRINTER - new printhead installed - "checking device" won't shut off.

My  magenta  cartridge was not printing. All I got  on the printed sheets was red ,yellow and pink colors. I  replaced the magenta cartridge and the same thing happened. I then replaced to  ccyan cartridge with the same results.  I searched the tutotials and installed a new magenta/cyan printhead.
Now the "checking device" message  won't go off. After about an hour I tried to turn the printer off and received the message that  the mechanical operations coud not be turned off.
After another hour I just unplugged the printer.

    Hello kenishal,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
Sorry to hear that the Officejet Pro 8500 is not printing its colors correctly, usually this type of issue is resolved by replacing the printhead. Hopefully we can get the printer past "checking device" to see if it has resolved the problem.
You can try removing and installing the printheads and the cartridges again, here is a walk through guide: 'Initializing' Displays on the All-in-One for Longer Than Expected During Setup.
If that helps get the printer to finish "checking device" and you are still having the missing or incorrect color issue, take a look through this support page: Fixing Ink Streaks, Faded Prints, and Other Common Print Quality.
Let me know if those suggestions have helped.

  • Connection Problem HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910

    Dear Forum,
we are experiencing connection problems with the Officejet Pro 8500 A910 Printer/Scanner.
The device is connected via Wireless Network and can reach the server (e.g. for storing scanned images).
When we try to access the printer (or scanner) with a Computer (WinPC or Mac) that is also connected via the same Wireless Network, the printer/scanner cannot be reached (host unreachable), i.e. even a simple PING to the network address (IP V4) of the printer/scanner cannot be completed. As soon as we connect the computer via wired LAN, the printer/scanner can be reached again (normal operation). Between both states (computer connected via Wireless Network or Wired LAN) no changes were made to the configuration of the printer/scanner. It simply is unreachable when the computer trying to connect to the printer/scanner is connected via Wireless Network.
We have looked at different firewall settings of the Wireless Router but did not find anything, the firewall is deactivated (as the router operates behind a firewall, as does the whole LAN).
I already switched on the "compatibility to 802.11b/g" in the advanced network settings of the printer, no effect.
Anyone got a smart idea why this is so? We tried with different computers and different operating systems, but always the same picture...
    Thanks!

    Reset the printing system:
    - Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
    - Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

  • Scanning Problems with an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500

I have an iMac running the latest version of Snow Leopard. I have had the HARDEST time, since purchasing my iMac in Dec 2010, scanning documents with my HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 printer. What happens is usually one of two things: 1) Only half of the page fills the scan window, or; 2) The entire document fills the scan window BUT the SCAN button is greyed out so that it cannot be selected!
Yes, I have done the whole delete the current printer drivers, get the drivers through Software Update, reset the printing, etc. None of that has worked (well, on occasion it works for a while). I am not using the drivers that came with the HP 8500; I'm told that you should use the drivers from Apple Software Update.
I have discussed this with Apple Support. They say I need to purchase  Apple Protection Care for them to address this. This is weird, considering that this appears to be a software problem with software supplied by Apple!
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

Hi,A phone cable connection to a landline is required for faxing. Generally, a wireless connection only refer to the connection with a computer for printing and scanning, it do not refer to a fax setup. Regardless, the specific device does not support any wireless connectivity but only a wired network or a USB. Regards,Shlomi

  • Printer problems with Officejet Pro 8500 A910

    Dear all,
I have been given as a present an Officejet Pro 8500 A910 (serie number CN16LDM020 and product number CM756A). The people whom I have got it from already had some problems with the printer heads. I have accepted the printer, because I want to have it working again. I do encounter some problems however. I hope you kind people on the forum can help me out and get this thing working again. As a side note: I am only interested in using the scanner, printer (only black and white - I do not print in colour) and e-printing (I understand that it is possible to email documents to printer, so that they are printed whilst you are somewhere else).
Upon installation I have conneted the internet to my wi-fi. Upon installation it made some test prints, whereby the black dots were good, but the cyan and other colours were not. When I now turn off the installed printer and switch it on again it takes the printer about 5 - 7 minutes to initialize. On the touch screen of the printer it is said "Checking printer, this might take 5 minutes", "Checking printheads", "Aligning printheads" and alike notifications. After 5 - 7 minutes the printer gives the following notification: " Failure notice. Alignment failed. Refer to device documentation for details." When I then push the question mark on the touch screen the following notidication is given: " Alignment failed. Check printer quality of the current print job. If it is not satisfactory, try aligning the printer to see if that improves the quality. To align the printhead again, touch (home), touch (arrow right), touch Tools, and then touch Align Printhead." When I follow these instructions, the same thing happens. I have tried the option "Clean printheads" under "Tools". The test prints that come out are again good in black and white and not good in colour.
The ink level of the cartridges is very low for Yellow, Magenta and Cyan. For Black the printer gives a question mark. The expiry date of the cartridges is in 2015. The information on the Self Test Diagnostic Page (you get when you print a report from checking the ink cartridges) gives the following status:
    Printhead status
Printhead health: Good (for both Black/Yellow and Magenta/Cyan)
    Serial: 7735960 (Black/Yellow) and 7744345 (Magenta/Cyan)
    End of warranty: mid-2013
Accumulated ink usage (ml): Black 99/Yellow 71, Magenta 57/Cyan 58
    Refilled supply:
Detected in printhead/printer? For all cartidges "yes".
When I try to print a document from Word on my MacBook (which runs on Mac OS X 10.6.8) and the printer is on stand-by, Word recognizes the printer, starts with the print order but then comes with the notifications "Printer offline" and "Cannot find printer" and postpones the print order. Today I reset the printer and the print job that I had before the reset (which was postponed) came out.
Today, I printed a document whilst the printer was not on stand-by (the touch screen was on home menu) and the print was well (it was only black and white). After the print, the printer also made a print report. Again, the colour was bad, but black ink was good. After that print report, the printer started aligning again. After 5 minutes it gave the above-mentioned failure notice (" Failure notice. Alignment failed. Refer to device documentation for details.").
I would assume that the first thing that I should do is get new cartridges. However, since I only print black and white, can't I just buy the Black Ink and disable the other cartridges? Then, I am thinking of not buying HP cartridges (since the warranty term is already over). What cartridges do you reccomend (price-quality)? If  new cartridges are installed (previous owner had same problems with full cartridges) and the problems (with print heads) are not solved, what should I do?
On a second note, I want to use the option of printing online. In other words, give a print order on my Iphone to the printer so that it starts printing at home. How do I set this up? How can I test this?
I would be very obliged with your feedback on the above.
    Kind regards,
    Onno

    Hey Onno,
I see you have several items listed about your Officejet Pro 8500a (A910 series) printer.  The main issue that stands out is the print quality issue.  I would advise starting here with your printer.
From your information I can see that refill or remanufacture cartridges have been used in this printer at some point.  It is possible that the ink from these cartridges have damaged the internal ink system of the printer.  If you have performed all the troubleshooting steps for the print quality issue you are experiencing, then the next step is going to be replacing the printheads of the unit.
    Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues
The 8500a requires all cartridges be available even if you are simply printing in B&W.  If the cartridges are low, then you will have to replace the cartridges as needed.  Typically by the design of this printer, however, print quality issues do not follow ink levels in the cartridges as ink is piped to the internal printheads, thus even with empty cartridges there is some ink remaining in the system.
The printheads for the 8500a can be found at most HP certified retailers if you decide to attempt replacing them as a step towards resolving the issue.  As to the cartridges, I would advise using genuine HP cartridges as HP ink is designed with HP printers in mind.  For information about refilled/remanufactured cartridges please click here.
Hope this helps in getting the print quality issue alleviated,
    Jason

  • Printing problem - HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer, Red color fads on 4th copy

I have an HP HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer, and am trying to print 75 copies of a program for our event. After the first 5-6 pages the RED in my program starts to turn magenta. I have brand new HP ink, and am printing on HP Color Injet Paper. I have renectly replaced the Black/Yellow printhead (at least 6 months ago). At first when I cleaned the printheads, I could print 2 or 3 pages showing my RED color. Then turns back to magenta. When I received the test patterns after cleaning the print heads they are all perfect with no lines.
What is going on and how can I fix it?

    Hi TM1997,
I understand you have an Officejet 8500 Wireless that is not printing red properly, it keeps turning to magenta. I'm sorry to hear this, but I will definitely do my best to help you!
As I'm sure you saw, when replacing the black and yellow printhead, that there are two printheads in the Officejet 8500 and the second one controls the magenta and cyan. I would suggest that you first have a look through this Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues document. You can also manually clean your printhead with the steps in this 'The Following Printhead Appears to be Missing or Damaged' or 'The Following Printhead has a Problem... document.
Hope this helps, have a great day!!

  • Printing problem - HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - printer head?

I posted this elsewhere, but I think I posted it on the wrong Forum so I am posting it here now. I hope I did not do anything to upset anyone. I am new to this area, please forgive my clumsiness.
I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer. I've had my printer since December 2009 and no problems. I recently bought a new laptop with Windows 7 and had to go online to find the drivers that work for my printer. Windows 7 was not compatible with this printer.
Also recently, I am having a problem with what I think may be the black printer head, but when I run diagnostic on it everything comes back saying it is fine. However the problem still exist. When printing the black color will become faded in some areas and in some lines will not only almost totally fade out, but will almost look italic.
Can you tell me if this is the printer head and does it need replacing or is there another problem?
    SondraS

Are you using genuine HP cartridges and not refilled or third-party cartridges?
Print the Print Quality Diagnostic page from the setup menu/print report/ on the printer's front panel
Are there any quality issues with this page?

I Have an HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless. Trying to print to it from my iPad2. Having some problems. Trying to print docs or files from the iPad usuall gets me a page that looks scrunched up to one side. Is there a good printer app (preferably free or shareware) that I could get or is there a patch, new driver, new firmware or something for the 8500 that would allow good printing fro the iPad wirelessly?

The latest firmware version for your printer is DLM1FN1006BR; you can verify yours by printing out a self test page via the front panel of your printer.
Also, the HP ePrint Home & Biz app supports printing over your local wireless network, so please verify if your printer is connected to the same access point as your iPad2.  You are also able to verify connectivity by typing your printer's ip address within the address bar of your safari web browser.

  • Wired Connection problem on Officejet Pro 8500 a909a

I am having what seems to be to be a strange problem.
I have lost connectivity to my printer (Officejet Pro 8500 a909a) through the network from my Windows 7 64bit computer.  I found that it worked fine if I connect throught he USB port.  Today, I have been trying to get back to being able to use it through the network.
I am able to get to the configuration on the printer through the network, at http://192.168.0.105 and that works fine.
I have downloaded the most recent software and when I run it, it doesn't detect the printer, even if I enter the ip address in the advanced search box.
I have downloaded the HP Print and Scan Doctor, and when it runs, I can see the printer, however i'm not sure why it shows 2 lines:
When I choose the last line and press next, all it does is goes to this page:
    Your help is appreciated.

What operating system does the computer use?
What happens when you choose the network-wired option on that last screen?  Since the printer is already installed, the software thinks you are wanting to install the printer again and presents the last screen.
Your printer is listed twice with two separate IP addresses.  I suspect the issue may be that the IP address is changing to frequently for the detection protocol to keep up with it.
If the printer is on the network and you can access it by entering the printer's IP address in a web browser, you can try setting a static IP address for the wired connection.  Click on the Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection document from HP.  The document is for wireless connections, but the same steps can be applied for a wired connection by substituting wired for any section that designates going to the wireless section of the printer.

  • Scan to Computer problem HP Officejet Pro 8500 (A909a) OSX 10.7.5

    Good afternoon,
First of all I appologize if this question already has been asked a thousand times, but I am unable to find a solution in the somewhat simular stories. But reading thru all off them, while English is not my native language, was beginning to wear me out.
My set up is as follows:
    - HP Officejet Pro 8500 all in one - A909a
    - 2 iMac running with 10.7.5
One can be selected using the "scan to computer" and the other can't. Both have identical systems, the only difference is the one that can not be found by the printer is the one that has done all the available updates.
So far I have done an "repair permissions", looking for additional updates and finally an uninstall of the software. I installed the programme HP_Installer_Officejet_Full_Group05_10.6.dmg (which I believe is the one that came with the printer) after which it all works again. So problem fix I know... but when checking for updates using the Apple update, there is an update waiting for me and when I run that one, that computer dissapears again from the "scan to computer sellection).
For now I am keeping the update sitting in the Apple Update and happily use all the functions, but I am curious (and a bit OCD with the fact there is an update hahaha), can I ever have my software up to date without having to loose that function? Or is there another update/fix I can try using the up to date software?
Thanks in advance for any response!

Welcome to the forums, I hope you are well
I noticed your post and have read it thoroughly. My first question to you is, what is the update that is waiting? I would like to know about the update before we continue.

  • Problem with HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer: cleans printheads every time it's turned on

    Hello everybody,
the printer HP Officejet Pro all-in-one 8500 (A909a - product n. CB022A) cleans printheads every time I turn it on. This problem affects any HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer, it isn't a problem only of that one I purchased. It is an annoying and irritating bug because the printheads cleaning at each power on implies two bad disadvantages:
    ink waste (each printheads cleaning process consumes some ink);
too much time (2-3 minutes) to get the printer ready after power on.
I upgraded my printer with the last firmware available on the HP site (firmware ver. DLM1FN1006BR) but the bug is still present.
    At this point I ask:
there exists a way (or procedure) to disable this unnecessary automatic cleaning at every power on?
Can someone contact HP engineers or tell me how contact directly one of them to indicate the bug and ask a new firmware update?
Please don't tell me to leave the printer turned on all the time or that the printheads cleaning at every power on is a normal behavior! Where is then power and ink saving claimed for this printer model?
I hope to receive a solution for this problem. Thanks in advance to everybody will help me!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The servicing when the printer is turned on is normal and is required to keep the printheads healthy (not clogged). See here for information.
As for power savings, the printer will automatically go into a low power mode when not printing for some time.  It is not necessary to turn the product off and on to save power.
