OfficeJet Pro 8500A suddenly not recog'd by network. Ran DX. Test says connected. Now?cc=us

After several months and this mornng, working fine, the Office Jet Pro 8500A suddently stopped being recognized by network, which is otherwise working fine.  The test report says it's connected. Have run basic and advance diagnostics and troubleshooter, to no avail.  Guidance?

Unfortunately, the installation software for OfficeJet printers is incapable of 'finding' the printer on a peer-to-peer network, if:
 - there isn't a DHCP server;
 - if assignment of IP addresses for network devices is performed manualy, or
 - if your peer-to-peer network's NetBIOS Group / Workgroup name is anything other than "MSHOME"
This last item appears to be a hard-wired configuration on every HP OfficeJet.
To provide even more frustration, HP provides a "Update IP Address" tool.
However, even though its printer can be 'pinged', and command line utilities (below) clearly show the printer existing on the network, the printer cannot be "located" by this tool, as HP's hard-wired NetBIOS Group / Workgroup name does not match the Workgroup name our firm uses.
Having a manufacturer decree that users must change the configuration of every device on their network to accommodate use of its product is unacceptable.
This is a relatively easy fix, HP.

  • Officejet Pro 8500A is not printing with Yellow cartridge. Full cartridge and good health ...

I have an OfficeJet Pro 8500 which is not printing with the Yellow cartridge.  Printing with the Cyan, Magenta, and Black cartridges is fine.  Diagnostics show all cartridges properly installed and having adequate ink supplies.I replaced the Yellow cartridge with a brand new XL cart, but to no avail.  I cleaned the orifice with Isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab, thinking perhaps there was some dried ink or an impurity there.  The problem still exists. There are no error messages, either via software or at the printer itself.  The printer is out of warranty (imagine that!).I have used HP products for well over 15 years, partly because HP support has been historically excellent.  After reading some of the posts on these forums, it seems that HP has allowed their support quality to diminish - significantly.  I hope that is not the case in real life.Any ideas out there?

I am having same problem. OfficeJet Pro 8500A Premium.  Not printing with Yellow. First replaced Yellow cartridge with new, then spoke with HP Support yesterday and was told that the Black and Yellow Printhead must need to be replaced, at a cost of $49.  New Printhead arrived today, inserted and still having same issue with YELLOW! So, for the cost of a new Multi-Pack of print cartridges (which had the Yellow I used to replace the low ink), and the new Printhead, I could have purchased a NEW CANNON PRINTER.  I have used HP Products for over 20 years - both professionally (HP Plotters) and at home (always HP Printers, Scanners, Multi-devices, etc.  I am VERY frustrated!

    Hi rjbarnar,
I see you are getting an error on your HP OfficeJet 8600 when trying to connect it wirelessly to your network. Can you please let me know the Exact model of 8600 you are using as well as the current Operating system?
If you have the base model of 8600 the N911a and are running Windows XP or Higher (Vista, 7 or 8) I would like you to go ahead and update the Firmware of the printer:
HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a Firmware
    Before starting the upgrade:
The HP Officejet Pro 8600 Firmware flashing (upgrade) requires a wired network or a USB connection.
DO NOT upgrade the printer firmware in a wirelessly connected printer.
If the computer has a firewall installed or enabled, it may block the Firmware Download Utility from accessing the printer. Therefore, please remember to temporarily disable any firewall that may be on the computer, including firewalls such as Microsoft Windows XP Firewall, Sygate, Zone Alarm or BlackICE.
Please click on the How to install tab when on the download page and read all recommendations and the process before installing.
If you are using a different model of 8600, please reply back with that information.
    Thanks in advance,

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 is not recognised on the network

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Printer runs on home network (wired) through PC with Windows Vista Business , Service Pack 2. I have printed off HP Configuration Page and the WINS status shows Primary (and Secondary) Server Addresses as 0.0.0.0
Printer is visible on the network with an IP Address of 192.168.0.10 so I guess the question is how do I change the Primary Server Address on the printer itself? Or is there something else I should be doing?
I have another printer (Photosmart 2610) on the network which works fine. I have swapped cables over between both printers and the Photosmart 2610 works with fine; Officejet 8600 does not work at all.
I have run HP Diagnostic Utility - it finds Photosmart 2610 but not Officejet 8600.
I'd appreciate any help going ...

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus Not Recognized On The Network

I have a CenturyLink DSL Modem/Router that has 4 ports on the back.  I use Port 1 on the DSL Modem/Router to conntect to my NetGear Router.  I use Port 2 on the DSL Modem/Router to connect my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus printer.  I use Port 3 on the DSL Modem/Router to connect my Brother MFC-7360N printer.  I am not using Port 4 of the DSL Modem/Router.
My NetGear Router is used to connect all wired desktop PC's (5) in the house.
I was able to successfully install the software for the Brother printer on all computers and can print on the Brother printer from any of the desktop pc's.
I have the software for the HP printer installed on all computers but on the WIN XP desktop pc I cannot detect the printer on the network.  During the setup process the software detects that the HP printer and the WIN XP pc are connected to two different routers (the DSL Modem/Router is being detected as a router by the WIN XP pc).  On the other desktop pc's which are running either WIN7 or WIN8 there is no detection problems even though the printer is connected to the DSL Modem/Router while the PC is conntected to the NetGear Router.
Does anyone have any knowledge as to why I am having this problem.  The problem seems to be only with the WIN XP pc and not with the WIN7 or WIN8 pc's.

You are running a double NAT scenario, not good.  Simple fix, put the gateway unit (modem/router) in bridge mode, which will disable the router functions and just make it a modem.  Now connect the Netgear router to the gateway unit and have this handle all your wired and wireless connections.

I have configured my pinter with a static IP adress. The printer was found on my laptop wireless and I printed ok and also made a scan. But every couple of minutes the printer gos offline and cannot be found.
Also cannot install printer on my wired PC. Printer is shown off line.
Where can I start to solve the problem?
Why does the printer go off line?

    Hi,
First remove and re-0attach the duplex accessory at the bak of the printer to enure it is well seated:
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00845167/
Next ensure the duplex unit is set as installed within the print driver by entering the  Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
Right click the printer icon, then click Printer Properties.
    Click the Device Settings tab.
Set the Automatic Two-Sided Duplex Accessory as installed and click OK to save the change.
Now try printing on both sides and check for any difference.

Rfe, make sure bluetooth is disable when you try and use airprint. Bluetooth has been known to interfere with AirPrint. Next download the latest HP Product Updates:
On the product control panel, touch the Right Arrow ( ) to display the second navigation screen.
Touch Setup ( ), and then touch the Down Arrow ( ) to display the Web Services Setup Menu.
    Touch Web Services Setup .
Touch the Down Arrow ( ) to select Product Updates .
    Touch Check for Product Updates
Also be sure that your printer is connected to the wireless network. you can print out a network configuration page by:
On the HP product control panel, touch the Right Arrow icon ( ), and then touch Network .
Touch Wireless , and then touch Wireless Network Test . The HP product prints a network configuration page.
Just make sure "Status" stated "Connected." Hope this helps!

My HP Officejet PRO 8500A suddenly disappeared from the list of available printers on my MacBook Pro. I went through all list of testing w/o success. The wireless test report says no wireless internet connection. There may be a MAC filter on the wireless router preventing the printer connection. How do I bypass the issue? I cannot find any IP address, when I try to add new printers, mine is not listed any longer. I have tried to re-install the printer, but no success. What else can I try?

  • Hp officejet pro 8500a won't print or copy without turning off then on again

HP Officejet pro 8500A, Will not print, copy or print received fax. HP icon on the Printer screen just spins, but never prints.  The print jobs show in the Que, but never print out. If I shut off the printer and turn it back on it will print, but after a short while it stops again. It has also asked for ink to be replaced.

    Hello pcmtgrl
Which model of the Officejet 8500A series do you have? Typically you can find it inside the printer where you change the ink cartridges. Example: A910g, A910a, etc.
Has anything changed recently since the problem started? Is the printer plugged into a wall outlet or a surge protector? Do you have the latest firmware installed? I also suggest running the HP Hardware Diagnostic Utility. Let me know if it finds anything out.

  • How do I load an envelope in my printer (HP Officejet Pro 8500A)

How do I load an envelope in an HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus printer?

    Hi,
Page #35 of the manual says:
    Cards and envelopes
    • Avoid envelopes that have a very slick finish, self-stick adhesives, clasps, or windows. Also avoid cards and envelopes with thick, irregular, or curled edges, or areas that are wrinkled, torn, or otherwise damaged.
    • Use tightly constructed envelopes, and make sure the folds are sharply creased.
    • Load envelopes with the flaps facing up and to the right or the back of the tray (tray 1 or tray 2 in some models)
You can download the manual (should be on the CD too) from the following link

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500A Premium will not print docs from computer, but will print a test page.

HP Officejet Pro 8500A Premium will not print docs from computer, but will print a test page.  I continually get a message that the computer cannot communicate with the printer.   Not only will it not print docs, it will not print web pages using IE 11 or Google Chrome.
I've used Print and Scan Doctor, it always reports there are no issues and prints a test page even though I can't print anything else.
Each time I want to print, I must reboot the computer.  After reboot I have one chance to print.   This problem started February 15, 2015.
My operating system is Windows 8.1.   I have unintalled the HP software, rebooted, then reinstalled the software:
    OJ8500_A910_1315-1.exe
HP Print and Scan Doctor - HPPSdr.exe
    HPSupportSolutionsFramework-11.51.0049.msi
All versions were last downloaded on April 4, 2015.
I have a home wireless network (Ubee DDW366 router).  All other devices in the house will print to the 8500A printer without issues:  2 Toshiba laptops, 2 Android phones, and 1FireHD.
The desk top is installed with a Netgear Network card I don't know the model, but I had it tested by a PC Tech to confirm that the card is working.   The card and Windows 8.1 were installed on January 3, 2015.
I have run virus scans and malware scans.  Each time they show there are no issues with my desktop.  What kind of desktop? Specifically made to my specs from store parts. . . no brand name computer.  ASUS Motherboard P6X580 Premium.  Now I will probably get hacked!
I am at my wits end.  And it is frustrating when I need to make a print of something and the system locks up.  I often resort to screen printing to a word document to save in order to reboot. . . .but then I lose all sorts of capabilites when I salvage what I needed.  Also this is a time consumer.
This printer has served us well for two years and I have expensive cartridges waiting; another two rounds of refills.
    Help?
Addendum:  I can scan using HP Printer Assistance.  I open the HP Printer assistant, it "retrieves" info from the printer, then I select "scan a document or photo" and the printer responds.   I have no trouble with scanning.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus - Magenta Not Printing

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus (A910), Model number CM756A, Serial number: [Moderator edited Serial Number] that is not printing magenta.
Firmware version: LRP1FN1231AR. Service ID 21057. IK Number 658.
Software version: 028.000.1315.000. Printer Driver version: 09.84.00.1189
The Printhead Status for all cartridges reports as "Good" in the Self Test Diagnostic Page.
I have run a Print Quality Diagnostics and in Test Pattern 2 there is no red/magenta colored block appearing.
I did not have any alert for low print quantity, however I replaced the Magenta inkcartridge with an HP Officejet 940XL new magenta ink cartridge (HP genuine) and still there is no Magenta printing.
When I open the ink cartridge holder, the printer shows HP Model: A910g, HP Ink Cartridge 940.
I have gone through this exercise several times, however the latest Magenta ink cartridge that I removed from the printer prior to replacing had the following information on it:  C4908A, 2016/05/22.  The newest cartridge I put in has a September 2017 expiration date (part number C4908A).
I am not getting any error messages or anything, there is just no Magenta being printed.
First - I would like to know how to fix this issue with the HP printer.
Second - is there anyway to get a refund for the ink cartridges I have had to use (and waste) trying to resolve this problem.
    Thank you.
