Officejet pro 8500A wireless radio is not functioning

Have an OfficeJet Pro 8500A.  Wireless connection stopped working.  Tried restarting printer, router, and computer per troubleshooting suggestions in manual.  No joy.  Wireless Network Test Report gives a 'Wireless Working' status of 'FAIL'. Troubleshooting results at top of report says "The wireless radio is not functioning. Contact HP Support."
I found a solution to this problem in the forum for a C7280.  It is to reset the printer by turning it off, and holding the # and 6 keys while and a bit after turning it on.  Later on, there is a comment by another user saying the reset solution also works for the Officejet 8500.
O.K. so I'd like to try reseting my printer, but don't know how to do it.  There are no "keys" on this model.  I've searched through the user guide (searched on the term 'reset' in the PDF version) with no results.  Can anyone help by either telling me how to use the reset feature on the OfficeJet Pro 8500A, or another solution to the wireless radio not functioning problem that I can try?
Thanks,

Thank you for your suggestions.  I appreciate your help.
I had previously verified that the wireless radio was on.  The wireless radio test report confirmed it was on.
I had not used the network settings reset function as I was focused on looking for a "printer reset" capability.  Based on your suggestion I used the network settings reset and then printed the HP Network Configuration Page.  This confirmed the settings had been reset.  However this test also checks for all available 802.11 networks.  The report shows the number of networks discovered as 0.  Based on this, I'm assuming the wireless is still not working.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless Radio is not functioning

I had been using Office Jet Pro8500 Wireless for about 5 months.  All the sudden, I lost the network connection.  I had been in contact with HP Support and waiting for a call back from them.  We had tried to reset the network connectivity (unplug the computer, and press 6 and #) but not successful.  I am connected to my wireless network on my computer. I have 2 computers (one Windows 7 and the other Windows XP).  I use NetGear for my wireless router, 64 bit with WEP.
I have been reading some messages in this forum, do I have a bad wireless radio in the printer?  I have been spending close to 2 hours with HP Support doing various thing, but no luck.  They suppose to call me back 1 1/2 hours ago but no one had called yet.  :-)
    Any suggestion?

I am on the phone with HP Tech Support.  I used your suggestion to tell them that I believe that I have a failed radio module in my printer.  They are going to send me a "refurbished" basic printer.  They assured me that the refurbished is a brand new unit, never used with any customer.  It is an overstock printer which they open and take out any accesories and ship it to me.  Hope this will work.  Hope this is true.
PS:  HP asked me to pay for expedite shipping but I politely asked that they will waive the cost because it is a defective unit.  They did.  But I have to give my CC for "collateral" in case I do not return my defective unit.
Waiting now for that replacement printer.
    Thank you for your assistance.

  • Officejet Pro 8500a wireless printer hangs up when printing document.

I have an officejet pro 8500a wireless printer and it has been working flawlessly.  Now all of a sudden it hangs up when sending a document to it.  It will say "now printing", with the red "x" and just sits there looking at me.  I have discovered that I can open the printer lid and close it and it will then print??????
Also when I click on "apps"on the printer menu screen,  it tells me, "unable to connect to the server".
    Anybody experience this problem??

I too have this issue with my HP8500a Plus.
I have managed to narrow down the issue to one of the cartridges. Whenever this cartridge is inside the printer, the issue will happen. If it's not, then the issue disappears!
I have tested this discovery on TWO different hp8500a printers, and they both react to this "special" cartridge the same way: its presence inside the cartridge tray triggers the issue.
There is only one thing that makes this cartridge any different form the other ones: even though it IS a genuine HP cartridge, it has been refilled and the max allowed page count has been hit. The issue started happening only after the max allowed page count has been hit.

  • Photosmart c309a- 'The wireless radio is not functioning, contact HP support'

My Photosmart c309a wont connect wirelessly. Upon running the wireless network test, the report states, and I quote "The wireless radio is not functioning. Contact HP support". The report then states the following:
    Wireless on                    PASS
    Wireless working         FAIL
and everything following that stated as 'not run'.
Ive searched for other threads on the subject, and the only sloutions I can find are unplug the printer and plug it back in to reset it (made no difference), and try the HP print and san doctor (link was dead, found it manually and didnt work as it cant connect to or even see the printer on the network).
So the question is, is this a hardware fault, and if so what can be done about it?

    Hello,
Yes, it is an hardware issue and indicates that the Wireless card is not functional.
Please call HP Tech Support for further assistance.

  • Can't detect or connect to my wireless network - Diagnostics says wireless radio is not functioning.

Couldn't print; computer said printer was not connected.  Tried to reconnect to wireless network, couldn't connect.  Ran the Wireless Network Test Report, which said "the wireless radio is not functioning.  Contact HP support."

Follow the instructions in the manual to reset the printer back to Factory Defaults. Now check the wireless radio status again. If the same, use the front panel to navigate and attempt to enable the wireless radio. Again, check the status after. If it still says it is not functioning, the wireless radio is indeed defective.

Wireless radio is not functioning on C7250.  Reboot didn't fix. #6 didn't fix, wireless light is on, Vista 32 bit, Win 7 32 bit, D-Link DIR-625 router. Worked great for 2 years. Diagnostic says Contact HP support.  Other functions work fine. Prints via USB all right.

Printer has been working fine but now will not connect to wireless. Tried powering down, unplugged, reset all systems, printed report... It says the wireless radio is not functioning p, contact HP support. Under 'wireless working' it says, fail.

Please perform a Network Reset on the printer and try again. If the same error message occurs, your wireless radio has most likely failed.

  • "Wireless Radio is not Functioning" when Diagnostic Tool is run

I recently unplugged my HP Photosmart Premium C309a and relocated it to a new shelf beside my main computer.  Wireless networking worked just fine before the move, and now it won't detect any networks to connect to.  I've run the Wireless Network Test Report and it says "Wireless Radio is not functioning.  Contact HP support."  Is there anything I can do from here to help fix this problem, or do I have to pay for Repair Service somewhere?  I would like to believe that this HP product can withstand more than a simple move from one shelf to another....
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
*Note* I know for sure my network is working properly (since I'm connected to it right now...).  My computer detects my network as well as a number of others in the neighborhood.

Is the printer still under warranty?  If not, yes you can have it repaired, but it may cost nearly what a new printer costs.  Here is how to contact HP.
Your printer should be able to work with USB and it should also be able to be connected to your router with an Ethernet cable.

  • On a wireless network test report, I get "The wireless radio is not functioning."

The printer is a Photosmart C309a all-in-one.  I've used this printer for some time and did so wirelessly earlier today.  Upon ordering a print job the printer failed to produce results.  I ran a Network Configuration Page where it showed the printer to be offline with no Active Connection Type.  I then ran a Wireless Network Test report and received the message: "The wireless radio is not functioning.  Contact HP Support."  IS THERE A FIX FOR THIS?
I reinstalled the printer software on my computer configuring it with a USB connection, in order to be able to use the printer.  I was able to use it with the USB connection but would most definitely prefer a wireless connection.  I also turned off the printer, router and computer and turned them on in the order outlined in the user's manual, but to no avail.  This, of course, I did before reinstalling the software for a USB connection.

    Hi,
I afraid the error indicate an an hardware failure..
You may try using a wired ethernet cable as a workaround, the printer will need to be services in order to repair its wireless card.
You may find the details to contact HP support by selecting your region and following Technical Support after you buy:
