OfficeJet Pro 8600 - Domain and SMB Names with static IP - bug

I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 8600. I have gone into it's web configuration and have found 2 issues.
1. I can not specify the Domain Name in the network configuration when setting a static IP address. Either for wired, or wireless connections.
If the printers IP address is DHCP assigned, it will get the defined domain name from the DHCP server.
2. Renaming the printer will not carry through to it's SMB name for reading the memory card/USB when using a static IP. It uses the following SMB name: \\HP<mac address>
If the printers IP addres is DHCP assigned, it will use the defined name.
BUT, either with DHCP or Static IP address, the printer registers itself to a router as "HP<mac address>"

I think I have now sorted my issue. Somehow it sorted itself out when I repeated something that i'd already tried. However I will leave this topic open incase any other members have a similar issue and I may be able to help them with it.

    4. Any changes made to your system before the issue occurred
No, all I did was install the software that came on the Officejet disc
I don't know what to do. I tried to create an adhoc network, and that didn't work. I tried to connect it via usb cable and the whole computer crashed. I tried to set up a router and then it would not connect to the internet.
Why is this design so flawed? Every wireless printer I have had does this and will not work easily or permanently. You should just be able to connect instantly to your computer and voila, you can print. But nothing seems to work. Mind you, the constant variable here is me, and I have little patience for spending days trying to get this to work. But I am a student, and this is holding back valuable study time.
    What do I do???
Any advice appreciated...can someone tell me step by step how to do this? I followed the instructions in the books, but ended up well...you know, so that's why I'm here.

I had the same issue, officejet pro 8600 plus causing blue screen of death on my new computer. After several frustrating months trying everything, I fould that my new computer has 3.1 USB ports, this printer doesnt like them, they need a 2.1 USB port.
For whatever reason USB ports are not backwards compatible, so I plugged the USB cable into the 2.1 port and no more crashes.
3.1 ports are blue, 2.1 ports are black ( the plastic inside)
    Hope this helps

  • Webscan problem with HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer and OS Mavericks

I have an iMac with OS 10.9 Mavericks installed and an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus N911g printer.  I recently downloaded the "HP-Inkjet-SW-OSX-Mavericks_v12.34.37" software update from the HP website but, since installing it, the image preview feature on Webscan now only shows a black screen and I cannot download the scanned image.  I have uninstalled the update and reinstalled the old software  - "Officejet-Pro-8600_v12.23.0" but the problem persists.
I am not sure if this is an HP problem or a Mavericks bug.  Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated

The servicing when the printer is turned on is normal and is required to keep the printheads healthy (not clogged). See here for information.
As for power savings, the printer will automatically go into a low power mode when not printing for some time.  It is not necessary to turn the product off and on to save power.

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Premium and OS X 10.8.3

    Hello,
I had my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Premium set up to print to a network folder and after the recent updates from Apple this week for the HP drivers I can no longer scan documents to the network folder.  It now says Incorrect Credentials.   It was working prior to the update.   I have tried resetting the settings and no luck.  I can scan to the computer directly but cannot scan to the network folder.   Any ideas?

@sthawkins5 - your problem with scanning to a network folder is really advanced and I will do my best to help by providing two links instead of just one.  I have this main HP document about "How To Setup Scan To Network Folder" and should cover the basics.  But for the advanced user, here is a thread that relates to exactly what you are having problems with: "Scan To Network Folder on 8600." Read through this and tell me if it is of any assistance.
@ohmiss - you would not use bluetooth to print to this printer.  "Email to printer" is called ePrint. You have a little icon (paper with circle behind it) in the upper-left hand corner of the touchscreen display that will walk you through how to set that up.  Unfortunately, there is no such thing as Scan to Phone Number as this printer has an actual land-line plug in on the back of it and requires that to fax.  If you want, it has a Scan to Email Wizard when you double-click on the printer icon on your desktop that will assist you in setting that up.  You may want to contact www.eFax.com about purchasing a monthly plan that allows you to fax from your computer and after you setup ePrint, you can put your printer's email address in eFax "receiving email" section and when you get a fax it will print.
Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" if I helped solve your problem.

  • Margins on print copies from HP Officejet Pro 8600 Printer are not aligned with original document

My HP Office ject Pro 8600 Printer is not printing the same margins as my original document.  The left margin on the print copy is 3/4" too far to the right.  The margin on the right is too far right and the text is being printed off the page! The problem seemed to start when I loaded Avery Labels to print. I run a non-profit and need to make copies asap for a sponsorship letter for a fundraising event.

  • Have officejet pro 8600 plus and it prints photos to dark on regular or advanced photo paper?

have a officejet pro 8600 plus printer and whenever i print a photo out , either on regular or advanced photo paper it always comes out darker then the actual photo.

Belive it or not this is acctually normal.  Most photos will print a little darker than they appear on screen.  This is due to the way the picture is coded and the brightness level on your monitor.  You could try following the steps in this document to imporve the quality, but I'm pretty everything is doing what it should.  If the colors are completely distorted, let me know and I'll see what I can find.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g Scan to gmail with 2-step verification

I have an HP Office Jet Pro 8600 N911g printer which is a replacement for another one. I am using gmail. I am seting up the Scan to E-mail. I put in all the required information asked by the wizard and when I test it, it comes back with "Incorrect credentials".  My gmail has a two step verification process where it will send a code to my mobil device. I remember setting the Outgoing E-mail profiles up on the previous printer before the replacement but I cannot remember how I got the "scan to E-mail" to work using the 2-step gmail verification.
Looking at another post about gmail I even click on the "Network" tab and changed the IPv4 DNS server settings to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
I checked and tested my gmail/Google to make sure that my gmail 2-step verification is working correctly.

Scan to email allow you to take a document that you have and send it wherever you want to send it as long as you have someone's email or you can send the document to your email.
Here is the solution to the 2-step verification with google's email.
Get into your google email. Click on your picture or name in the right-hand corner and click "Account". On the "Signing In" box click on "2-step verification". From there go to the App-Specific passwords tab.  Click "manage application specific passwords".  At the bottom chose mail, select device and then generate.  Follow the prompts and guidelines from that point.

  • Re: HP Officejet Pro 8600+ "There is a problem with the printer or ink system..."

I've had mine for a year and a half. All new cartridges. Called HP - they said I probably need a new printer, of course.
I have an Office Depot guarantee that's still good and an HP warrenty  that's good until 2017 - that's how paranoid I am about HP - but both want me to send the printer back. This will take weeks. I am so leery of HP Printers, I kept the box behind my couch since July, 2013!
What printer should I go for next? I noticed HP is not selling the 8600 anymore. I've bought printers EVERY TWO YEARS since 1999. Epson sucks, Brother sucks. HP ink is outrageously expensive. Any ideas?

Thanks for asking, Bob. Prepare for my screed: Saturday night, I was on the phone with an HP tech, Andre. After an HOUR, he told me he'd have to transfer me to another support team which he couldn't access because HP was updating. He said the update would take EIGHT hours. I called back to get another opinion, and that guy said only TWO hours for the update, call back at 9 a.m. EST. I called and was told SIX more hours to go, so Andre was correct. Andre said he would call me back at 6 p.m. EST. He did not call, but when I called HP and asked for a supervisor, he told me that Andre had called me at 12 p.m. Sunday afternoon. He lied. I have caller ID on my phone and on my TV. No call from Andre.
The supervisor then transferred me to "one of his best people, she went to college." Okay, he was right, Ann was exceptional, but she made me do everything I had already done six times: unplug, take out the cartridges, take out the whole printer head, put them back in - nothing. She said that HP could send me a new printer by the next morning, which I thought was very optimistic, but things were looking up UNTIL she transferred me to Cindy who said NO NEW PRINTER just the printer part. I said I had three more years on my warrenty which cost me $47.00 and I WANTED A NEW PRINTER BECAUSE THE 8600 IS A CRAPPY MACHINE THAT HP DOES NOT EVEN SELL ANYMORE AND THERE ARE NO LESS THAN 55 COMPLAINTS ON THE HP FORUM. There was smoke coming out of my ears, I'm sure.
Cindy stuck to her guns and I asked for HER supervisor, but that person/department doesn't work on Sunday. So, I have to call back after 8 a.m. EST Monday.  I will NOT accept any offer except an ENTIRE NEW PRINTER.  I paid $25 for a warrantee from Office Depot, which is where I bought the 8600. They went out of business - just across the street and joined another company. They are now Office Max and the closest store is an hour from home. So, I have paid over $70 in warrantee fees and I'm not accepting just a part that might last only a year or so like this one did. How do they know that the printer itself isn't ruining the printer head? They don't. I also asked for all new ink. There $100 worth of ink in this piece of crap and I don't want to lay out another $100 to replace it.
I've had two PCs since 1999, but this is the FOURTH HP printer that has pooped the bed. I got an Epson when I bought my Dell PC in 1999, which I replaced with an HP.  I bought a new HP PC in 2011 and I've been through THREE HPs and ONE Brother. I got an HP printer THREE times for this PC. When I did my due diligence, I saw that the HP 8600 was selling in some stores for $300, so I thought I was set with this machine. I turned in my old, dead HP to Office Depot, got credit, which I put into this machine. That was in July 2013. What a scam these people have going. This is called PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE, and the public is aware. I HAVE HAD IT!

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus - Wireless connection issues with Wireless Extender

I have a TPLink Wireless 300MBps wall plug extender to boost the wireless signal around my home.
When in use my OfficeJet fails to connect to the wireless network at all, even if you 're-configure' the wireless as a new connection from the printer.
Turn off the extender, reboot the printer, and voila - it connects within seconds.
Any ideas as to what I can try?

I think there are several things at play here.  The most suspicious is that the extender and the router are not the same brand.  There may be some protocol issues with this setup that the printer will never be happy with.
Can you move your main router and forget the extender?

  • Officejet Pro 8600 N911a and windows 8.1

I have been using the above mentioned printer for some time, but I'm now experiencing a problem in my set-up.
I get an error message saying "Cannot communicate with the printer" on my windows 8.1 stationary PC, and when I start troubleshooting with the HPprint and scandoctor the problem lies with the printqueue connection to the printer.
The error message asks me to update the IP-adress on the printer startpage, but I fail to identify the place to do so. Is it on the printer or somewhere inside the windows controlpanel?
Reinstalling the printer and restarting the windows machine helps (sometimes more than sometimes).
The printer connects wireless to my homenetwork through a TDC SAgem router and my W8.1 PC is connected to the same router via cable.
I have not met the problem when I print from my Ipad or Iphone both of course wireless.
How do I update the IP-adress or better how do I solve the actual problem??
    Thank you in advance.

  • Is Windows Server 2012 compatible with HP Officejet pro 8600 plus printers

    Hello,
I am wondering whether HP officejet pro 8600 plus printers compatible with Windows server 2012 - I have the driver installed on the server and deployed - installation of the driver and all was successful but it won't print from the server or on a user's computer from the deployed printers list. No error message comes up, I just click print and nothing happens. If I install it individually on the user computers - it seems to print as a 'network printer' but won't print from the server, and if it can not print from the server then it can not print from the deployed printers list. I was looking up on driver compatibility list online earlier and could not find Windows Server 2012 mentioned on the list - only server 2008 and below.
Essentially what I am trying to find out is whether this officejet pro 8600 plus printer is compatible with our server.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus copy prints with black streaks

I just bought an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus and it seems to work great at printing; however, when I tried to copy something, the copy came out with black streaks that nearly render the print illegible and are the most dark/condensed towards the left hand side of page.
How do I fix this problem?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
It could be due to the scan calibration issue during power on.
Power off the Printer, make sure scan lid closed properly. Now power it on, it will do scan calibration.
Now try to do the copy and see the results.
    Hope it will help you.
